For ruqyah to be fully effective one cannot use it on experimental basis to see if it works. Instead he must firmly believe that it will work.

Ruqyah = healing (from jinn, etc) by reciting 1) ayahs from Qur'an 2) certain duas from Sunnah. The concept is that the reciter is invoking the help of Allah (SWT) through them and only Allah(SWT) can bring about that cure.
Certainly food, drinks, lifestyle modifications can be combined as well but will be described later
Qur'anic ayahs hierarchy (frequency and importance of use in this particular context)
1) Evidence of benefit as ruqya as mentioned in authentic hadiths of Prophet Muhammad (SWS)
2) The evidence of benefit is derived by famous scholars + raqis during the golden age of Islam
3) The evidence of benefit is derived by famous scholars of Islam in the last few generations
One may find other ayahs circulating among the circles of raqi in our times but I will not be mentioning them here.
The stronger the iman is of the reciter the more effective the ruqyah will become. On the other hand, the jinn will attempt to gain power over the reciter through his sins and weaknesses (including mental)
