Viral Interventions: Artifact

We chose to set up our artifact like thins in order to summarize the aftermath of what a party looks like. We included the footprints that we used in the park and the different candy wrappers and messages that a lot of people chose to ignore. I feel like setting it up like this shows how the message can be lost in translation because people avoid certain things because they are interested in something else. Also, placing the piñata in the trash can was a way of showing how we are destroying the world and not caring about it. However, it doesn’t only mean this because it shows how a valuable object that we created on our own is just destroyed in a matter of seconds and how people don’t care about it because they don’t relate to something as you might personally.

Viral Intervention: Final documentation

For this part we wanted to do a video a showed the focus on the piñata, kind of keeping our focus on the world. Showing our final presentation like this was a way to make it more dramatic and make it have more importance that what we would think it has. During this event kids didn’t really approach us but they were definitely interested so not a lot of people participated. However, it didn’t take from the fact that the earth was destroyed and that people didn’t care how hard they hit the piñata they just cared about the supplies that the piñata was offering. From my point of view, this showcases how we destroy the world and we are just interested it what serves us individually and not helps the environment.

Viral Intervention: Process

For the process of our work I was in charge of doing the piñata and we did the piñata with different recycled materials like the cardboard and we bought the rope, the crepe paper, candy, and the party decorations. During the set up we put the candy inside the pillars and we decided on the final spot we were going to do our presentation. We decided to do the piñata instead of buying it mostly because it adds value to the object so in the end destroying it makes it more impactful at least for us in the group.

Viral Interventions: Final Proposal

1. We place footprints around various places, leading people to the piñata while also informing them about the project. Footprints will be stickers or vinyl.
2. Participants will take turns hitting the piñata with a bat until it breaks completely.
3. Fortune cookie like messages about global warming as well as candy will fall from the piñata.

Viral Interventions: Proposal 1

The sentence our group is using for the project is "First we free up the generative spotlight warming up the world." The sentence alludes to global warming and climate change. So as stated, in the images above, we will be painting over a very large balloon (weather balloon size) to resemble planet earth and filling it with confetti. Then we will parade the ballon around Bayfront park in Downtown Miami in a similar fashion to the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in NYC. After we parade the balloon around, we will pop it in front of a large audience. Popping it in front of a large audience may startle some people because of the loud sounds, but it will be theatrical because it will be accompanied with flying confetti. Also, the balloon will no longer resemble a globe because it will be popped. Once the ballon has popped there is no longer an "Earth", and once humans exhaust all our resources there will no longer be an "Earth". So this project would serve as a wake up call and as a metaphor to the current day climate change crisis.

Viral Interventions: Present

In order to share our sentence we decided to go somewhere we could write the sentence and that a lot of people were going to see it so in the end we decided to put it on the poles by the football stadium and the dorms. We decided to write each word of the sentence in individual sheets of paper and they all have different fonts but the only ones with different colors are the highlighted words that we each chose in the activity. Doing this was really interesting because we could see people in cars stoping to check what we were doing and what we were writing and you could even listen in the video how a car honked while we were there which allowed us to know that people were actually reading and seeing our sentence.

Flag Race Challenge

In the race I ended up wining and planting my flag. As for the details of the flag, i decided to do a flag that had the same message as my previous assignment. So basically it is about thinking of the emotions that make you create as an artist. The yellow panels are the original panels where people drew their answers to the question “what made you happy?” The blue panel was “what made you sad?” And the red panel was “what made you angry?” And in the middle I decided to write the main question of “what made you create?” The symbols in the middle of the flag are representations of the different emotions and the sun in a lot of places represents happiness, a raven that in some cultures represents sadness and darkness, and matches with fire that represent anger. The hierarchy in the flag is that I made it so you can focus in the middle but at the same time the colors have some sort of hierarchy.
