He holds the phone to his ear until it stops ringing. He calls her again. He’s shaking so hard it’s a wonder he hasn’t dropped the phone yet, mouth open as he breathes hard. His tongue is heavy in his mouth, he just needs to know that she’s okay.
“…Paulo? It’s two in the morning…”
He snaps forward like a broken car cable and sobs. Daisy is silent as he desperately holds the phone to his ear, bawling like a fucking child into the receiver. It’s probably the most embarrassing thing he’s ever done– but he’s not thinking enough to comprehend that right now.
“Paulo?” she whispers, “Are you okay? Did something happen?”
“I’m sorry—” he gasps, clutching the phone like his lifeline. A part of him still feels afraid, like he’s still curled up on concrete and holding Daisy desperately as the screams ring in his ears. “Daisy, Daisy—”
Or: Confrontation was fucked for everyone. Let’s talk about that.
