since it's the topic on my dash rn i'll just say i never ever got the vibe that james was distant or neglectful of the lone wanderer, at least not while in the vault. this is a take i see often and i just don't really get where it comes from. not saying you can't headcanon him as such i'm just going by what's in the game he absolutely gets tunnel vision about project purity which is somewhat understandable. you can only confront him about this a little bit though, which is where i think the problem of fallout 3 is on a dogshit engine comes in. in literally any other type of story, or hell, any other type of game, james and the lw would have a conversation on the way to rivet city. maybe even several conversations. instead of punching radscorpions and getting blown up by cars. some severe character development opportunities are missed there. i can think of a few ways around this, engine-wise, but it would require cutting liam neeson a bigger check so 🤷‍♂️

also everyone factors in his reaction to blowing up megaton as a strike against his character but i personally don't because 1. i never blow up megaton and 2. every single thing related to blowing up megaton is stupid and poorly written as shit. literally just scrap it and start over.
