“I have a feeling that I’m supposed to recognize his name, but if I’m completely honest I have no clue who that guy is. I mean besides the fact that you just told me he’s a celebrity.”
“You know To Kill A Mockingbird? He played Atticus Finch in the movie adaptation.”

“ can’t say i necessarily blame ya ━━━ dude was an attractive guy. his role in TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD almost made me want to swooon. “
“He really was a looker, especially in a suit. But I think it’s his presence I was most attracted to.”

“Gregory Peck? From Roman Holiday?” The man smiles, glad to recognize the name. “He is handsome… I can understand that.” For a while Seojin simply sits staring at some point beyond the woman; then he breaks out of it, rubbing at his chin. “I think… I think my first crush was Olivia Hussey— she was Juliet, from Romeo and Juliet.”
“He was handsome, it was almost unfair.” She smiled and sighed somewhat dreamily. “I’m not familiar with her work, but I’ll definitely check it out. Is the movie any good?”

“It’s a good film, ya should watch it sometime. Designing Woman, that rings a bell. Lauren Bacall right? I think everyone from that era was goddamn stunning.”
“That’s the one! And they really were, everything was just so clean cut and classic. Well, I guess it’s classic to us, back then it would’ve just been modern.”

“I get that. I mean, Atticus Finch was a prime cut, y’know?”
“If by ‘prime cut’ you mean ‘attractive’ then yes he was. I actually can’t think of a time when he wasn’t.”

“ — Hm, that’s an excellent choice. Did you have a preference between the different Pecks?” Sienna nodded along, a laugh glimmering on full, rosy lips. “I don’t think I remember ever having a specific crush, except for maybe Thackary Binx? In human form … obviously”.
“Definitely Mike from Designing Woman. The suit, the hat, the face, everything was perfect and heart stopping.” Pearl smiled. “Who’s Thackary Binx?”

“Aye, he was fookin’ gorgeous. I can certainly see the attraction. What was it, Spellbound I saw? I don’t know if I was more attracted to him or Ingrid Bergman.”
“Ooh I haven’t seen Spellbound, only To Kill A Mockingbird and Designing Woman, which was the first movie I saw with him in it. It was practically love at first sight.”

❝ speaking of which , did you hear about that school that removed to kill a mockingbird from it’s curriculum because it made people uncomfortable ? what a load of horse shit . ❞
“I did hear about that actually, and I cannot for the life of me see the logic behind that.”

“Right, of course he did. If I was your dad I’d probably do the same thing,” Iggy shook his head, smiling to himself. “Wish my dad screened my death threats. Hey, do you think I can hire him to filter my mail too?” He joked, feeling a bit more at ease; positive it was Pearl’s influence. “Well, I know you get a lot of people calling you brave and strong and what not, and of course they’re right, but I really mean it. You–” he froze again, mouth agape before he broke out into an embarrassed laugh. “Okay, okay, you’re too good to be true, I get that. But you don’t know me, I know me and I’m trying to be honest here.” He laughed, “you just have to trust me on that one. Usually I tell people I’m the most amazing person they’ll ever meet but I think I’d rather not lie to you here.”
“My dad isn’t up to much these days, I’ll throw the suggestion towards him.” She giggled, imagining the way her dad would react to that suggestion. “I think I can decide what I will or won’t ignore.” She said, voice gentle but still firm. “You have been nothing but honest with me so far, and that’s something I appreciate.” She puts a hand on his shoulder and smiles widely. “I think this is the start of a beautiful friendship.”

“It is bad!” Pearl protested, gently moving some of Clayton’s hair out of the way to examine his bruises more closely. “Goodness what happened?” She frowned. “You didn’t pick any fights did you? Were you mugged? Did you lose anything? Have you told the police? You should go to the police.”
“ will you please stop staring at me . it’s really not that bad. “ he told as he pressed the button for his floor. clayton didn’t even make eye contact with the person next to him. he had already knew that they were staring at the black eye he had , the bruises present , and the busted lip. he turned his head quickly and glared at them. “ also whatever your thinking , say it to my face. “ he said bitterly as he was not having the best day. clayton had just lost his match and five hundred dollars.

Iggy flinched at the touch, not expecting or used to such a gesture. “Not true, everyone loves to hear about the misery of lives that aren’t theirs. They just move on a forget the people they used to love.” He looked at her, seriousness in his eyes, rubbing at the spot where her gentle hand had once been. “I bet you also got a lot of hate too,” he grimaced, “god, people suck…uh not you, you don’t. I’m just…remembering how much people are terrible.” He smiled, then frowned. “Hey, wait, don’t say that. Your story, your life, isn’t just an interesting read…I mean, I know those are my words but…it’s more than that. I didn’t mean it like that.” He sighed, “you’re a good person, Pearl. Unfortunately, I’m not. So everything that leaves my mouth can be confidently ignored should you please.”
“Well my dad screened all my letters so if there was any hate mail I never saw it.” She tilts her head to the side and feels a slight twinge of guilt for seemingly make Iggy feel bad. “I know you didn’t mean it like that.” She said gently. “And...thank you, that’s very sweet.” She decides there and then that she likes him and she smiles. “Well in that case I shall confidently ignore everything you said about not being a good person.” Her mouth splits into a wide grin.

If Pearl was displeased with Iggy, he didn’t sense it. Too caught up in himself to pay attention to the little details, and especially not when he was off the job. “Useful isn’t exactly the right word but it was interesting reading.” It was one of those cases that made Iggy’s stomach twist, a younger Iggy would have refused to ever represent a man like the leader of the cult…now it was just a job to him. It was sick. “Sorry,” he said suddenly, “I know that it’s—sorry. Sorry.” He coughed, “….why ever publish a book about it though?”
“No don’t apologize.” Pearl put a gentle hand on his forearm and gave him a reassuring squeeze. “It was just...a little sudden I guess. My book isn’t as popular these days, not many people are reading depressing life stories any more.” She laughs lightly as a way to ease the tension. “I...I really don’t know. My therapist told me to write stuff down as a way to, y’know, express myself and my feelings and I just got it into my head to publish all of it.” She shrugged, a deceptively casual and breezy action. “And I mean, I got a lot of letters from people telling me that it gave them to courage to talk about their own trauma, plus all the money that went to foundations for victims of sexual assault and abuse...” She smiles without really noticing, and it’s warm. “If nothing else, at least all of that was accomplished. And it gave you something interesting read.”

“Huh, tell that to my mother.” He crossed his arms, mumbling under his breath. “Pearl, what a pretty name.” He smiled genuinely at her, before nodding at her other question. “I do, ninth floor. Penthouse. I’ve never seen you around Ms.Os–wait.” He froze, his mind racing to get the right words out before eventually settling on just saying whatever he was thinking. “Pearl Oswald like the Pearl Oswald? Cult girl Pearl Oswald?” He rubbed the back of his neck, astonished. “I read about your case. I studied it in law school. Wow, small world.”
The corners of Pearls mouth faltered ever so slightly, forming a grimace for a split second before going back to smiling, but it was tighter now. “Yep, I’m the cult girl.” It wasn’t the kind of moniker she had wanted to hold, but then considering the fact she literally handed the whole world her entire life story, she probably should’ve expected it. “Oh wow really? Gosh I hope it was useful.”

“Aw shucks, you’ll make me blush. I can see your physical appeal too.” He smiled, before his eyes grew wide with surprise. “You…like my laugh?” He blinked, “No one’s ever complimented my laugh before.” He was more used to people telling him that they hated the sound, that they hated him. “I–uh–” he flushed, a rare occurrence for him, before he shook his head and snapped out of it. “I don’t know about celebrity crushes being an ice breaker, but it worked on me so I’m the fool here.” He held out his hand, “Iggy, it’s nice to meet you.”
“Thank you! And yes I do like your laugh. Laughs in general are nice things to hear.” She took his hand. “Pearl Oswald. Do you live here at Wisteria?”

“Ah, yeah. That’s the one I watched after I appreciated To Kill a Mockingbird so much. Also, hope that didn’t literally happen and I’m not talking to a zombie right now.” he laughed, a loud and honest sound. “Are we talking about Gregory Peck or me right now?” He joked, rubbing the stubble on his face. “Although he did not age into a hot old man, I’ll say that much. Can I ask why you suddenly remembered your first celebrity crush?”
“Still talking about Gregory Peck, although I can see your physical appeal.” She smiles a little wider, feeling slightly more at ease. “And you have a good laugh, so that’s always nice.” She shrugged. “I don’t know, it just sorta came to me I guess. It’s a nice ice breaker.”
