"The Seven gathered again" for TRSB 2025

Inspired by the passage: [...] but now hearing of the renewal of Doriath and of Dior's pride the seven gathered again from wandering, and they sent to him to claim their own. – The Silmarillion, Chapter 22, Of the Ruin of Doriath This moment always hits me hard. It's the last time they meet, and it just gives me feels! All of that and more is captured in the story to all things housed in silence by queerofthedagger! The depth of the story was so inspiring for me! Go read it!

To the process:

For this one, I mainly focused on color palette, design, and most importantly, the composition.

They're one family, so I imagine they all come in their family colors. However, a sea of red would look boring. Luckily, the family also wears a lot of gold! Mixing some green into it, we now have at least three colors we can use.

For the design, I wanted to play into their personalities: Maedhros always prepared for battle, Caranthir with extra jewels since he's rich, and the twins being hunters, wearing more simple and practical clothing.

And then there's composition. I wanted to make sure there's still a lot going on and the tension is high, with just them sitting around a table, talking.

Once all of this was decided, it's just painstakingly rendering all of it. :)

Maedhros leaned against the wall, relishing the opportunity of having a few minutes spare to take some deep breaths and try to settle himself. You’ve just got to get through today. Keep it together for today. You can fall apart later. The hallway of the crematorium was an oddly peaceful place. It was quiet and hallowed. A place that encountered grief every day, holding it then releasing it. But it didn’t feel sad, it felt tranquil. Maedhros was still and breathed in the calm and whilst he still felt tremendously overwhelmed, he felt grateful for the space that was held here, precious and sacred.

Thank you for trusting me with this piece. I love drawing backgrounds, and his melancholy state paired with the outside was a joy to get to draw :)

Trying out a more painterly style with portraits of Homeverse Maedhros and Maglor. These took forever to finish, but I'm really happy with how they turned out!

(Maglor's background is a stock image of sheet music; I'm afraid I have no idea what the song is. Maedhros' is a Sunday Times front page from January 1940.)

New Chapter! Chapter 15: the twins move in

Start from the beginning

Summary: Trying to build a new civilian life for himself Maedhros gets an unexpected call which turns everything on its head. His estranged cousin-in-law Elwing has died and left behind two small children. When asked if he and his family could look after them Maedhros is hesitant, but this might actually be the new start he needs, whilst rediscovering old parts of himself and wondering where along the way Maitimo was lost. A story of new beginnings, finding family and love out of the ashes of old lives. Words: 80,902  Chapters 15/? Rating: M

I think Fingon should just be bafflingly good at sneaking into places. Like obviously there’s the whole rescuing Maedhros thing, but I think he should break into/out of other places. He spends his childhood sneaking away from adult supervision. He regularly sneaks into Formenos during Feanor’s banishment to visit Maedhros. He regularly sneaks out of Dor-Lomin and Barad Eithel despite his father constantly increasing defenses to prevent him from doing so. He breaks out of Mandos one day, refuses to explain himself, and comes back sometime later with a Maedhros he just broke out of Mandos.
