dead by daylight oneshot
Word count: 2024
I wrote this in like 2022 guys be so nice to me
~
Silence filled the woods as the woman on the ground woke up. Everything was quiet. The woman groaned quietly, brushing her shaggy, light brown hair out of her face. She took the moment to glance around her surroundings, and upon doing so, she found a pig mask on the ground next to her. Memories flooded back to her in a rapid motion. The memories of John Kramer, the reverse bear traps, the time she murdered Donnie—it was all returning to her.
She intuitively moved her hand to her neck, though instantly retracted when she felt blood on her hand. Fuck…  she thought, a frown forming on her face as she glanced at her clothes. They were all bloody and torn, causing the girl to let out a sigh.
Multiple questions ran through her head, ranging from whether she was legitimately dead or that this was just another one of Kramer’s tests for her. John is always one step ahead of everyone, maybe I’m not even dead… she glanced around once more, now noticing the fog surrounding her.
“Come on, Mandy… You’re just hallucinating…” she muttered quietly to herself, seizing the pig mask. “John wouldn’t let you die, just go along with his plan like always.”
She slipped the mask on and heard whispering in her head. People would think she’s crazy; talking to herself, walking around the woods in blood-soaked clothes, and possessing a pig mask. At this point, she very well may be crazy. After all, she was not at all an innocent person. She has spilled another person’s blood at least once, intentional or not.
Her eyes lit up at the thought of killing; murder was the only thought that filled her head now, besides, she could just feel the blood on her hands. It all excited her, the chance to prove herself to Kramer was here. It’s always been here. All she had to do now was seize this chance and please John. Nothing will get in her way, not now. She is so close to succeeding, so close to redemption.
But with every choice, there is a price; every price leads to different outcomes. Some are excellent, some are corrupt—it all just depends on who you ask and who’s involved. Every outcome is up to you . You could live, you could die. You could kill, you could be killed. Your fate is in your hands. Just remember to weigh your choices.
~~****~~
The sky got darker, the fog got heavier. The woman sighed to herself. She knew what to do, despite nevergoing through this before. Having magically obtained a clean outfit moments prior, she changed into them.
She quietly analyzed the blade that’s strapped to her wrist, paying attention to how the polished metal reflects off the intense moonlight. In a swift move, she withdrew the blade and then brought it back out. Smirking, she repeated the process a few more times.
The fog appeared to thicken more, supplementing on to the eeriness around her. She heard clicks and the turning of gears around her, as well as the sound of a hook falling on to the ground. She could barely make out humanoid shapes through both the fog and her mask.
Ding!
That sound reverberated throughout the woods, indicating the completion of a generator.
She shook out of her daze, a feeling of adrenaline coursing through her veins. The familiar thoughts of killing filled her head, controlling the movement of her lower joints; she was crouching before she knew it.
"Alright Amanda," she muttered under her breath. "Just kill the nitwits and you can leave. It's nothing you haven't done already."
She stalked towards a nearby generator, which coincidentally appeared to have two people—a male and female—repairing it.
The female had shoulder-length blonde hair and blue eyes. She wore a grey spaghetti strap with a design on the front, short shorts, and knee-high boots. Upon closer examination, the shirt she was wearing had this interesting asymmetrical composition, resembling a typical bandana.
The male looked to have lengthy and unkempt black hair, as well as, a scruffy beard. He wore a leather jacket, a graphic tee of a band she didn’t recognize, and a nice pair of black jeans.
Amanda promptly shook her head, securing the pig mask that concealed her face. In a swift, fluid motion, she fell to a crouch. Her route was to the generator that was currently being worked on by its two occupants, though her path was cut short by the loud ding that signaled throughout the woods.
Two generators completed? the thoughts ran through her head. What are they even used for? An escape plan? A distraction? she shook her head again before a hidden smirk upon her previously emotionless face. Well, whatever the reasoning for these generators, they won’t all get completed.
With a newly found approach, she stood up and glanced around her surroundings for clues to lead her to the objective put upon her. Caws from nearby crows being alerted, bright red scratch marks on the terrain—they all appeared to correlate now, not just all a missing piece to puzzle or miscommunication in a set of directions that could lead to the demise of others.
Amanda followed the scratch marks that lead to another generator, which held the same girl and a different male. This male looked a bit more sleep-deprived than the preceding guy she saw beforehand. He wore a blue beanie with a jean jacket to match. His outfit also held a pair of blue jeans and a grey tee-shirt with a white tree design. Under the beanie, his hair seemed to be brownish; whether it was a lighter or darker shade couldn’t be deciphered by her at this time.
Instinct seized control of Amanda for some time, prompting her to chase after the second male. Time seemed to slow down as she revealed her blade, committing to the chase. Minutes passed as she ran after the sleep-deprived boy. Window vaults after window vault; missed attack after missed attack. The game of cat and mouse was cut short, however, when Amanda was met with a pallet of wood to her face. She let out a quiet squeak, recovering from the stun.
Amanda gave a quiet growl, stomping the pallet; it broke on impact. Her victim was able to escape, which didn’t make her very pleased. She gazed around, looking for any sign of the boy she was pursuing. Nothing.
“Little bitch,” she muttered under her breath, taking a glance around. Everything was tranquil, quiet. At least, it was until another chime was heard in the distance; followed closely by another chime.
This infuriated Amanda, nevertheless, she remained as relaxed as possible. Come on Mandy… Don’t get irritated about this insignificant obstacle. You know what Kramer said…  The thought danced through her head.
She was brought from her thoughts by the blinding beam of a flashlight. Her eyes burned from the light; she let out a pained squeal. Her recovery was quick, however, as she quickly shook her head, readjusting the mask that hid her face. Amanda’s gaze flicked between every bush and tree, trying to find the sleep-deprived male she was chasing previously.
Amanda fell to a crouch, her mindset on finding her prey. The sound of an explosion filled the area—signifying someone messed up the generator. Her path was changed to go to the generator. Nothing could stop her tenacity, nor her will to please Kramer. Nothing's gonna stop her from killing at least one person.
She got to the generator, two people already working on it. They didn’t seem to notice her presence. Something sparked within Amanda—a feeling that was rather familiar to her. The feeling of pleasing a higher power.
Her body started to move on its own; almost like she was being controlled by an outside force. She released her hidden blade, rushing towards the closest person. Coincidentally, that person was the sleep-deprived boy she was chasing earlier.
The boy shot up, causing the generator to explode in his face. Amanda’s blade cut through his jacket, the cold metal meeting his back. He let out a loud scream, blood gushing from his wound. She used this time to knock him to the ground.
A reverse bear trap appeared in her hand, causing her eyes to widen. Memories flooded back to her.
~~****~~
Amanda woke up, feeling a weird metal concoction on her head and a metallic taste filling her mouth. She thrashed around, attempting to get whatever it was she was tasting out of her mouth; she, however, was strapped to a chair. Her thrashing was cut short as a tv clicked on.
"Hello Amanda… you don't know me, but I know you." A voice spoke out from what looked like a puppet on the tv. "I want to play a game. Here's what happens when you lose." The camera moved to show a mannequin wearing a metal device. "The device you're wearing is hooked into your upper and lower jaws; when the timer on the back goes off, your mouth will be permanently ripped open. Think of it like… a reverse bear trap. Here, I'll show you."
Rapid ticking noises started as the camera moved back to the mannequin. A bell chimed and the trap sprung open, tearing the mannequin's head open.
"There's only one key to open the device; it's in the stomach of your dead cell mate. Look around Amanda, know that I am not lying. Better hurry up. Live or die--make your choice."
~~****~~
She shook her head, ridding her mind of that memory. She stuck the trap on the boy's head, just as Kramer had shown her to. He let out a pained grunt as Amanda picked him up and swung him over her shoulder.
"Shut up, you've made your choice, this is your price." She grumbled, making her way to a sacrificial hook.
The boy punched her back, trying to escape her grasp, but it was to no avail. A hook penetrated him right in his shoulder, causing him to let out a pained scream. Hearing that caused a smirk to form on her face.
Amanda stalked off, searching for her next victim. Coincidentally enough, she encountered the female she saw at the beginning of the trial and downed her rather easily.
She slipped the trap on to the woman's head, grinning in the process. "This is for you, John…" she muttered as she grabbed the female off the ground and slung her over her shoulder.
The female managed to escape from Amanda's grasp, making her let out a squeak. "Fucking bitch..."
At this point, someone has gotten the boy off the hook and the fourth generator roared to life, causing the boy's and woman's traps to activate. The clocks were ticking.
She walked around the map, patrolling the generators and searching for survivors. For the first few moments, she gave up hope, but she saw a figure in her peripherals. She went towards them, lunging when she was close enough.
The figure quickly stepped out of the way, revealing to be an older man with a cigarette sticking out of his mouth. "You must be new." His voice was rough and his gaze was hard.
Amanda scoffed, lunging at the male again. This time she was successful and he let out a pained scream.
"Pathetic…" she muttered, lunging at him again, knocking him down. She put a trap on his head, hoisting him up.
A scream was heard in the distance, signifying someone died due to the trap. Perfect… she thought as she ran into the girl again. Her trap was off.
The older male had gotten off of her shoulder, causing her to squeak again. Fucking hell...
The last generator chimed, signalling it's completion. She let out a loud groan. "Not only did all of the damned generators get complete, only one of them died…"
Amanda stood there, pondering. Did I disappoint whomever brought me here? Did I disappoint Kramer? She didn't move from the spot she was as the three remaining survivors exited from the door.
"Brutal Killer…"  was the last thing she heard before she passed out.

It’s a 7k+ pokémon fanfic i write for a school project 5 years ago… but it’s accurate enough to how i write now (though i’ve improved since.)
The moon was bright, the Venonat and Spinarak were skittering around, and the Noctowl were cooing. Many Pokemon were resting, while some were just waking up. That, however, wasn't the case for a certain Espeon.
This Espeon had been up since the moment Dawn had shown her face. He had been searching for the thing that his friend wanted him to find. He didn't succeed, it just left him stranded near a river.
Sitting near the bank, he stared at his reflection. "What is this he wants me to find…?" he muttered quietly under his breath. "It can't be that hard to find, right?"
An object slowly surfaced from underneath the river. The shine caught the Espeon's attention, as he slowly rose to his paws.
He slowly started to trot down the river bed, stopping once he got to the object. He bent down on his haunches, swatting at the stone-like item. After a bit, he was successful in getting it close to him. Slowly, he grabbed the stone with his maw, retreating towards the open field.
Dropping the item, he took a closer look at it. It was an orangish-yellow stone with a flame in the middle of it. The cat-like Pokemon stared at the stone.
"Why would he need a firestone…?" he murmured, shifting his gaze to the moon. "He's a Meganium, a firestone won't do him any good."
He picked the stone back up with his jaw, trotting back to his den. Upon arriving, a Meganium was waiting.
"Acacius, did you get it?" the Meganium spoke, looking down towards the smaller Pokemon.
Acacius nodded, putting the firestone on the ground. "Why did you need it anyway, Benton?" he asked, his tail lashing slightly.
The grass type let out a quiet huff. "I have my reasons, which you have no business knowing. You did your part, so I bid you a good day."
Benton walked out of the den, after grabbing the stone. Acacius simply watched him leave, letting out a sigh.
The psychic type lied in his bed of leaves and sticks, curling his tail around himself. He hummed out a content sound, closing his eyes.
•~~~~•
Sunlight showed through the cracks of the den, signaling for Acacius to awaken. A low groan was emitted from the cat Pokemon.
He stood, yawning softly. Trotting out of the den, he stretched out his muscles, before entering the woods.
The Espeon let out a content sigh, humming slightly. He always loved walks in the woods; they gave him a feeling of peace and serenity.
A Ledian flew towards Acacius, a smug look on her face. He simply looked at her, his tail lashing slightly.
"Acacius! Just the Pokemon I was looking for," she said, her voice full of conceit.
Acacius rolled his eyes. "What do you want, Layla?" he grumbled quietly, ears flicking in annoyance.
"Nothing much, just for you to come with me," she giggled, flying off.
He had no choice but to follow the annoying bug type. The psychic type muttered things under his breath, glancing up every now and then to make sure Layla couldn't hear him.
The duo eventually arrived at a cave. Acacius shivered slightly, the air colder here than it had been earlier.
"Someone has come all the way from the Brass Tower to talk to you," Layla started, jealousy obvious in her gaze. "She sent me to retrieve you, so do what she asks. Got that?"
"Yeah, yeah, got ya," he mumbled, slowly entering the cave.
Inside the cave, the temperature seemed to drop 10 degrees. Acacius shivered once more, treading deeper into the cave.
"Acacius," a female voice called out, making him gulp. "Come here, boy."
He hesitantly walked forward, the Suicune—one of the five protectors of the Johto region—coming into view. Her purple mane was blowing slightly in the cave breeze.
"Good, good. Now sit, it's gonna be a bit," she demanded, elegantly sitting on a rock.
Acacius sat below the rock, on the cave floor. He looked up, his tail curling around his form. The mystical Pokemon glanced down at the more common one.
"You know my name, right?" she asked, her gaze not moving.
"Eira…" he said quietly, afraid to speak up.
Eira smiled softly. "Correct! Now, listen up and listen real good. I'm gonna give you three days to come back to this spot with an answer. Will you accept the three missions in store for your future?" she asked, her voice soft and soothing.
The Espeon shrugged softly, not really knowing how to answer.
"Remember, I'm giving you three days. If you don't accept, the curse of eternal winter will fall upon this forest," she continued, glancing up towards the ceiling of the cave. "Starting with the area your den is. Now, you are dismissed."
With that, he stood and trotted out of the cave, the Suicune's words echoing through his mind.
•~~~~•
Acacius was awoken to a thud from outside of his den. Groaning, he stretched and walked outside. A familiar Ledian grinned at him.
"I'm sorry, did I wake you?" Layla snickered, sitting up. "If so, I'm not sorry."
The psychic type growled, glaring at the bug type. "What do you want?"
"Eira sent me to keep an eye on you. She wants to make sure you don't die before you can start your tasks."
"What if I don't wanna participate in the tasks?"
Her expression shifted to one of seriousness. "Did not hear Eira's threat? She'll freeze this entire forest! You really want eternal winter?" she asked, looking at Acacius with a dumbfounded look. "I live here too, you know. Freezing this forest won't be good for the many flying, bug, and grass types in this forest."
He shrugged softly. "It's better than me risking my life to do something without knowing what I'm going into," he stated simply.
"Come with me," Layla muttered, flying into the sky. "You need to meet someone."
Acacius followed the Ledian, letting out quiet groans of distaste of this plan. Hearing his groans, she shifted her gaze back towards him.
"What's got your tail in a twist?" she asked, slowing her pace slightly.
"I'm just confused as to why Eira wanted me to do this. There are plenty of other Pokemon out there who could do this task better than I can. Why couldn't she choose one of them?"
She never answered, just continued on flying. The Espeon growled, having no choice but to follow the bug type.
The further they went, the closer they got to seeing a den. Layla flew faster, causing Acacius to speed up as well.
"We're here," she spoke, stopping abruptly.
     "Who's den is this?"
"Azrael's, he's the elder Houndoom. Now, go in, I don't have all day."
Acacius slowly started to enter the cave. The Houndoom was lying there, his black fur lightened to a dark grey.
"Ah, young Acacius," Azrael croaked out. "I haven't seen you since you were an Eevee… Anyway, what brings you here today?"
"Eira wants me to do something for her and some of the other legendaries," the Espeon started, glancing around, "and I'm not sure if I wanna do it."
"Eira has always had a thing for you, boy. She showed when you were born, she's protected you in dangerous situations when you were younger, and—believe it or not—she has even opted to take you in as her own once!" he chuckled, sending himself into a coughing fit. "The only reason she didn't is that Kallik and Azar decided against it. Guess they didn't want a little Eevee running around the tower."
"That doesn't answer why she wants me to do it, though."
"She has confidence in you. If she didn't, she would have gone for a stronger Pokemon. Did she threaten to do something if you didn't partake in the task she gave you?"
"She said she would freeze the forest over, sending it into eternal winter."
"Hmmm," the older Pokemon shifted his position slightly. "Knowing her, that's a possibility. Did she give you a time frame to get back to her?"
"Three days. I met with her yesterday."
"So, tomorrow is the deadline. If I were you, I'd go back to where you met with Eira and accept her proposition. Her task will be the easiest of however many you're getting."
     Acacius nodded. "Thank you, Azrael."
The Houndoom simply nodded, entering a coughing fit once more. The smaller and younger of the two Pokemon trotted out of the den.
"How'd it go?" Layla asked once Acacius was out, false modesty in her voice.
He 'tsk'ed in response, making his way in the direction of the cave Eira was waiting in.
"Hey! When I talk to you, you better answer!"
The Espeon rolled his eyes, ignoring everything the Ledian said.
      "Oi! Listen to me!"
Acacius kept walking, and Layla eventually stopped talking. The two Pokemon traveled in silence, not once exchanging glances.
He saw the cave and ran ahead, not once slowing down for the bug type.
Hums echoed throughout the cave, proving that Eira was still there. The psychic type carefully walked in and sat in front of the ice type. Glancing to the ground, the Suicune smiled when her gaze met the Espeon's.
"Did you make up your mind, Acacius?" she asked, her voice holding slight happiness.
"I have," Acacius started, glancing up at her. "I will partake in the challenges you and others will give me."
"Very well, my task for you is to take this bag of berries to Elidi in the Unova region. You may take Layla and other Pokemon of your choice, understood?"
He nodded, slinging the bag around his quadrupedal form, being careful of the contents inside.
"Wait!" her voice called out. "Be careful out there, Acacius. Some Pokemon really care about you."
"I will try, Eira," he said, walking out of the cave.
Now out of the cave, Acacius let out a sigh, his gaze fixing on to the Ledian. Layla rolled her eyes upon seeing him.
"Eira says you have to travel with me," he said bluntly. "We're going to the Unova region."
Layla let out an exaggerated groan, rolling her eyes. "Of course she does," she muttered under her breath. "I have to go with you everywhere! Why can't I get a break?"
"Let's just go. We have a long walk ahead of us," he murmured.
The psychic type and the bug type started to travel north. Many Pokemon stopped to stare at the odd duo.
A little Eevee strutted over to the two. "Where are you two going?" she asked, tilting her head to the side softly. "You aren't leaving Johto, are you?"
"What's it to you?" Layla snapped. "Are you the border police? Besides, we're still miles away from the border to Unova."
"I… I uh…" the normal type stammered out, backing up slightly.
"Layla…" Acacius growled, glaring at his companion. "She's just a kit. If anything, she was playing as a Border Control Officer."
"Ugh, this is why I hate kids…"
Turning his gaze to the Eevee, he said, "Where are your parents, young one?"
"Elise!" a female voice called out.
"Momma?" Elise replied, her ears pricking up.
A Vaporeon trotted over, her eyes fixing on the young Eevee.
"Momma!" the Eevee chirped, nuzzling the Vaporeon softly.
"Sorry for interrupting," Layla started, as Acacius rolled his eyes. "Okay, I'm not sorry, but keep your child under control."
"Sorry, ma'am, she can be a little blunt. Just… don't mind her," Acacius said, glaring at the Ledian. "Anyway, it was a pleasure meeting you-"
"Vapor, my name's Vapor," the Vaporeon introduced herself.
"It was a pleasure meeting you, Vapor," he finished, smiling softly.
"Acacius, let's go. I wanna get out of this region soon," the bug type commented, a bit impatient.
He rolled his eyes softly before flicking his tail at the Vaporeon and Eevee, trying to replicate a wave. Acacius then started walking off, Layla trailing behind him.
•~~~~•
NThe sun slowly started setting over the horizon, as the two travelers neared the Johto-Unova border. Acacius glanced at the wooden sign, ears flicking up in excitement and anticipation at the journey ahead of him.
Just beyond the border, an Audino was trying to mediate a fight between two Zoroarks.
"Flynt, do you have no self-control anymore?!" one of the Zoroarks yelled out, their voice sounding feminine.
"For Arceus' sake, Nyx! You're the one with no control!" the other Zoroark—Flynt—snapped slightly.
"G-Guys! Stop fighting, please! I need to be watching the border, not trying to settle an argument between you two!" the Audino grumbled loudly, trying to stop the heated dark types.
"Shut it, Cadenza!" Nyx and Flint said in unison.
Cadenza sulked back to the border. She glanced up to see Acacius and Layla, causing her gaze to light up immediately.
"Welcome to Unova! My name is Cadenza! Please, cross the border and make yourself at home!" she chirped out, letting the pair into the region. "Just… ignore those two. They always fight. Flynt usually starts it, because he never knows when to shut his trap. Nyx, well, she retaliates when angered. They're known as Flynt the Instigator and Nyx the Retaliator—the Zoroark Twins!" Cadenza giggled softly. "Anyway, we should probably find a place for you two to stay. Oh! I know! Follow me!"
The Espeon and the Ledian followed the normal type, as she led them to a small cottage.
"I know it's not big, but you guys can stay in the spare bedroom of my house," Cadenza offered. "It's the best I can do for tonight."
"Thank you, Cadenza. We appreciate it," Acacius said, before shooting a weak Psychic at the bug type to get her attention.
"Hm? Oh, yeah. We do appreciate it, I guess," Layla said, the move not really affecting her.
"All right, I'll let y'all settle in. If you need me, I'll be downstairs or outside," the normal type informed, walking out of the room.
"I call the bed!" the Ledian exclaimed, flying so she could get into it. "You can have the chair."
The Espeon rolled his eyes softly, jumping into the chair. He curled up, letting out a soft sigh. Slowly drifting off into the land of sleep, he let his tail limply fall over the side of the chair.
•~~~~•
Acacius woke up with a start, hearing talking from inside the room. He opened his eyes to see the two Zoroarks from the night before.
"Good, you're awake," one of them said, their voice sounding masculine. "My name is Flynt."
"And I'm Nyx!" the other Zoroark exclaimed.
"Cadenza told us to help you navigate this region. I think that means she wants us to travel with you," Flynt muttered, his gaze fixed in the Espeon. "Would that be okay?"
Acacius nodded. "I don't have a problem with that, it's Layla you have to worry about," he said, his gaze moving to the sleeping bug type.
Nyx swiftly moved towards Layla, extending her claw to poke the Ledian. She giggled, retreating once she saw the other female Pokemon stir.
Layla grumbled, her gaze trailing around the room. She glared once she saw the smirking Zoroark.
"So, you're the one who woke me up?" she growled out, not once looking away from Nyx. "What do you want that's so important?"
"Flynt and I are traveling with you and Acacius!" Nyx chirped, skipping over to her brother. "So, where to first?" she asked, looking at Acacius.
The Espeon stretched slightly. "We're going to see Elidi," he answered, trotting to the door.
Flynt stared at Acacius dumbfoundedly. "Elidi?!" he questioned. "You know she's dangerous, right?"
Acacius nodded, his tail swaying slightly. He walked out, Layla trailing closely behind him. "You guys coming?"
The twin Zoroarks looked at each other before shrugging. "Why not?" they said in unison. Nyx quickly caught up to the others, while Flynt trailed behind.
Nyx made it her goal to continuously annoy the Ledian, despite her not being one to start arguments. She giggled, using her illusion abilities to take the form of Layla.
Flynt shot a very weak Night Slash at his sister. "Nyx, knock it off," he grumbled.
The attack made her illusion to fade, causing her to whine quietly. "Flynnntttt!" she exclaimed, crossing her arms slightly. "I was having fun! Why did you have to ruin it!?"
“It's not a time to be playful, Nyx," the older Zoroark grunted, glaring at his sister. "We need to focus and get these two to Elidi. You playing around won't get us there," he concluded, swiftly catching up to the Espeon.
The younger Zoroark let out a whimper. She trailed slowly behind the other three Pokemon, her ears flicking back.
Layla smirked triumphantly. She stopped, hovering above the ground to wait for the dark type to catch up. "How'd you like getting lectured?" she mocked quietly, not trying to alert the two male Pokemon. "It's not fun, is it? Maybe you shouldn't mess around with other Pokemon, ey?"
Nyx growled out, glaring at the bug type. "Leave me alone!" she snapped, huffing. "I was having fun… Why can't I have fun? You get to have fun tormenting others?" the dark type muttered, rolling her eyes. "It isn't fair!"
"Well, hey, guess what. Life's not fair, sweetie," she grinned. "Better learn it sooner or later."
The Zoroark crossed her arms, poking the Ledian once more. “Have you forgotten what I do best?” she smirked, stalking towards the two males.
Layla rolled her eyes. She could not express how much she hated Nyx. All of her pointless bickering with Flynt, her attempts of annoying the bug type, and her annoying smirk; it all put a sour taste in the Ledian’s mouth. Sighing, she caught up with the other three. Nyx couldn’t help but bite back a chuckle, seeing the female’s annoyed state.
“What? You find my annoyance funny?” Layla snapped, glaring at Nyx. “Is my pain just that hilarious to you, huh? You just that much of an emotional sadist?”
Nyx glanced at her in slight shock. “I am not a sadist of any sort. I just, uh, saw your expression as funny?” she mumbled, extending and retracting her claws. “Though, if I’m being honest, you’re the sadistic one,” the dark type spoke, admiring her claws. “You seem to like causing people pain, that much is obvious.”
Acacius glanced back at the two females; his gaze holding annoyance. “You two need to drop the argument. It’s not the most productive use of our time to find Elidi,” he grumbled out. “If you guys wanna argue, I’d prefer you wait until we get through Eira’s and Elidi’s trial.”
Layla rolled her eyes but stayed silent.
The group traveled together in silence. The Zoroark twins took the lead, bringing the psychic type and bug type towards a great castle. Legends say that this very castle was once home to a powerful human who can understand Pokemon. The human was named Natural Harmonia Gropius, better known as N.
"One day, however, humans just vanished from the Earth. Many Pokemon restlessly searched for their trainers, but none of them succeeded," Flynt grumbled out, glancing around. "To this day, no Pokemon knows what has happened to humans. Some say disease, some say famine, and some say mass genocide. Though, there are very few who say war, nuclear or not."
"I personally say it was disease," Nyx chirped out, giving her opinion on the matter. "But, humans vanished. They didn't die, which all of those points suggest. So, none of those would work…" she muttered, second-guessing everything. "Those are just theories though… Who knows, maybe we'll eventually figure this all out?"
Acacius listened to the two dark types debate this topic as he trotted after them.
"Oh!" the female Zoroark chirped out happily. "A Deoxys and Beheeyem invasion! One of the Deoxys led his army of Beheeyem and captured all of the humans! They took the race to their galaxy to do whatever," she concluded, smirking proudly.
Layla rolled her eyes. "Oh, come on! You honestly can't believe that, right?" she groaned out, staring at Nyx. "All that childish nonsense about an alien invasion… It makes no logical sense to want to take humans from this world. They were our companions, our protectors, and our family."
"It's still possible!" Nyx retorted, glaring at the bug type.
"Would you two stop, please?" Acacius groaned, staring at the two females. "Besides, I can see the castle from here."
Layla and Nyx fell into an awkward silence as the four neared the castle.
The giant structure loomed above the group. Flynt took the lead, stalking towards the gates.
"Huh, weird…" he grumbled out. There were no guards present at the gates. "Usually Elidi has at least 2 Bisharps and Gallades out here," he continued, raising a paw to the handle. To his surprise, the door opened by itself. "What the…?"
He hesitantly stepped through the threshold, glancing around the dimly lit and ominous halls. Two hooded figures approached him as Layla, Nyx, and Acacius caught up.
"Is there something we can do for you four?" one of the figures asked, sounding masculine.
"It's not usual getting visitors here," the other grumbled, also having a masculine tone.
"Could you take your hoods off?" Flynt asked. "I like to see who I'm talking to."
Hesitantly, yet simultaneously, the two took their hoods off, revealing a Lucario and a Gallade.
"I'm Adonius and this is my partner Ace," the Lucario spoke, motioning to the Gallade. "Now, as I asked before, is there anything we can do for you four?"
"Can you take us to Elidi?" Acacius responded, lightly shifting the satchel with his maw.
"What's in the bag?" Ace quickly commented, shooting a glare at the Psychic type.
"Berries," he started, keeping his composure. "The Ledian and I were sent here by Eira to give them to Elidi. Feel free to search it if you don't believe me," he concluded, his gaze flicking towards the two Fighting types.
Adonius walked towards the Espeon and glanced into the bag. "Very well," he commented. "We'll take you guys to Elidi."
Adonius and Ace lead the group of Pokemon to Elidi’s chambers—which greatly resembled the room of a child—that had a music box emanating from the interior. The room had toys sprawled out all over the floor, and multiple bean bag chairs lying around.
As Acacius stalked closer to the door, the quiet sounds of weeping could be heard. He slowly rapped against the door with his claws. Barely audible shuffling was heard from the other side as a Zoroark partially opened the door.
“What do you want?” she hissed in response, softly wiping her tears away.
“We’re here to speak to Eli-” Acacius started, but was promptly interrupted by the dark type.
“No, Elidi won’t be taking any visitors right now.”
“Please Miss! Eira sent us to see her, and I can’t disobey my queen,” he said frantically.
The vulpine opened her maw to speak, but was cut off by another voice. “Just let them in, if Eira sent them, they must need something.”
Acacius, Layla, Nyx, and Flynt entered the room. Elidi wiped her tears with a claw as Acacius approached her, bowing.
“Queen Elidi, Eira has sent me and the Ledian on a quest to serve the different legendaries. You were one of them,” he started, taking the satchel off and putting it in front of the dragon. “She told me to deliver these berries to you, ma’am. If you have a quest for us, we’d be glad to complete it.”
Elidi thought for a moment, before speaking. “There is one thing, but it may be rather impossible…” she muttered out.
“You want them to find Master N, don’t you…?” the fox spoke out. Elidi just nodded in response. “Elidi… I know he didn’t disappear like the others, but don’t you think he’d be back to us by now…”
“I know Amaya…” she muttered quietly to the Zoroark. She turned her attention to the quadren. “Just go see Haulani on Poni Island in Alola, but first deliver a couple berries to an Alolan Vulpix named Leimomi and a doll to an Alolan Ninetales named Amaria on Mount Lanakila on Ula’Ula Island. If you do see Master N on this trip, please tell him to come home,” she commanded.
Acacius nodded as Nyx grabbed the doll and Flynt grabbed the berries. The group exited the room and made their way out of the castle. Nyx silently took the lead, walking towards the trail. For once, they all traveled in complete silence.
The quiet pattering of paws was heard behind them, causing Layla to turn around.
“Who’s there?” she snapped, glaring in the direction she heard the paws.
A Zoroark with hints of green in his fur came out of hiding. His gaze locked with the Ledian's, a light smirk appearing on his muzzle. Layla's gaze narrowed slightly, her wings fluttering lightly.
"Who are you?" she grumbled out, holding his gaze with her own. "What do you want?"
"I am the god of this new world!" the Zoroark chuckled to himself, his smirk growing. "As to what I want, I want humans to stay liberated from this world. They finally got eradicated from this planet, and I don't want any more distractions to my plan, good day."
"Wait!" Nyx called out, staring at the Zoroark in front of her. "I know who you are. Elidi and Amaya are looking for you, I think you should return to them, 'Master N'," a smirk formed on her muzzle after concluding that sentence.
The other Zoroark fell silent, ears twitching softly.
"You can't be surprised I figured that out," Nyx continued. "Who else in Unova has the same ideals as you? And what other Zoroarks have pieces of green fur in their manes?"
"Very well then," was all he said before turning away and stalking off.
Layla shot a glare at Nyx before the group walked off, heading towards the ocean. Acacius let out a sigh, his tail twitching every now and then.
•~~~~•
The four Pokemon soon made it to the ocean. Acacius stalked around, looking for a boat. He let out a low growl as he paced up and down the shoreline.
"Acacius, I found someone who can take us to Alola," Flynt's gruff voice grumbled out. Acacius trotted over to the other male Pokemon. "I talked with a Machamp and he said that he can take us to Ula'Ula Island. We're leaving in a few minutes," the Zoroark concluded, heading in the direction of the boat.
Acacius gathered the others, telling them the news. He led them in the direction Flynt had gone.
The Machamp sat in his boat, waiting for the rest of the group to reach him. Once they arrived, he spoke, "My name is Ekon. Today, I'll be taking you to Ula'Ula Island."
The trio joined the other two Pokemon on the boat. Ekon walked over to the wheel and set sail.
•~~~~•
The sun set over the horizon as the lone boat on the vast ocean reached the shoreline. The group swiftly exited the boat and thanked Ekon.
Multiple Pikipek and Trumbeak were cooing and chirping happily. The streets of Malie City were still busy, despite the time.
All of it confused the Espeon, who was still used to life in the forest. The two Zoroarks simply shrugged all the chaos off—almost as if the chaos they caused was worse than city life.
An off-colored Lucario gleefully trotted towards the group. He flashed a kind, sincere smile before stopping a few paces in front of them.
"Alola! Welcome to Alola! My name is Edmund," he chirped out, grinning softly. "You seem confused," he started, his gaze shifted towards Acacius, "is there anything I can do to help dispel that confusion?"
The psychic type shifted his gaze up to the relatively short shiny Lucario. "Uh, no," he muttered quietly. "I'm just not used to city life, I guess. It must be the downside of living in a forest most of your life, huh?"
Edmund simply nodded in response, before addressing the group as a whole once more. "How about I direct you guys where to go?" the fighting/steel type asked, smiling. "I know this island like the back of my paw!"
"Tch, whatever," Layla muttered in response. "It's not like my opinion ever matters anyway."
A low growl emitted from the back of Nyx's throat, causing the bug type to shift her gaze towards the vixen.
"What now?" the Ledian groaned out, unamusement eminent in her voice. "I'm only speaking the truth."
The dark type rolled her eyes in response. She trotted after the shiny Lucario, not wanting to face the other female. The smirk on her muzzle fell to a slight frown as she stalked slowly behind Edmund, not really caring how the others saw her.
Nyx kept her gaze fixed to the ground, moreso to the heels of the Lucario’s feet. She only looked in another direction once she felt something brush against her leg.
“We need to talk,” the voice grumbled out, causing the Zoroark to look at the source. Acacius returned her gaze before speaking again, “Come with me.”
The Espeon started to lead her to the back of the group, the privacy much appreciated by the female.
“So, what’s got your fur in a knot?” Acacius asked, looking up at the vixen.
“Nothing is wrong,” she quickly responded, her gaze shifting back to the ground. “It’s not like anybody would care about my feelings anyway…”
“Really Nyx? Nothing is wrong? I sincerely doubt that,” he started, his tails lashing slightly. “Usually you have a witty response to Layla’s idiocity and hypocrisy, why not now?”
“No reason, I just didn’t know how to come up with a response, that’s all.”
“Right, that’s exactly why you didn’t respond to her,” he mumbled out. “You sure it’s not anything else?”
“Yep,” she started, putting emphasis on the ‘p’. “Nothing else is wrong.”
“Sure,” Acacius grumbled, not believing her. “But it’s whatever, if you don't wanna talk about it, I won't force you."
Nyx stayed behind whilst Acacius caught up with the others again, the air getting colder.
•~~~~•
"Here we are! The base of Mount Lanakila! You should be able to find your vulpine here!" Edmund chirped, turning around. "Alola!" was the last thing he said before stalking off.
Acacius glanced around before tufts of white fur caught his eyes. He trotted over and pawed at the snow, revealing an Alolan Vulpix.
"Heyyyyy," she whined, glaring at the Psychic type. "Why did you do that?"
"Sorry, uh, I'm looking for some Pokemon named Leimomi and Amaria," he answered quietly.
"Well, you're looking at Leimomi," she snapped slightly, sitting up. "What do you need?"
On cue, Flynt walked over and gave Leimomi the bag of berries. "Elidi told us to give you those," his gruff voice rang out.
"I'm assuming that doll you have is for Amaria?" the ice type inquired. "She's always had a knack for items like that."
"Dolls?" Nyx asked, her mood seeming to have improved slightly.
     "No," Leimomi grumbled. "Paranormal objects."
"Do you have an idea of when Amaria will get here?" Acacius asked, looking at the vulpine.
"Now," she answered as an elegant fox trotted over to the group.
Amaria's gaze flicked around between the Pokemon until it landed on the doll in Nyx's paws. "Elidi actually got it!" she chirped out, her tails wagging. "Didn't think she'd actually do it!"
Nyx walked over to the Alolan Ninetales and put the doll down. "What exactly is it…? I know it's a doll and all, but why? Aren't you a bit old?"
"I'm only 17!" she grumbled. "And, uh, I can't tell you exactly what it is, but it's not a normal doll!"
"Uh huh, right. Anyway, can you lead us to Poni Island? We need to meet someone named Haulani," the female Zoroark responded, glancing at the ice types.
"Why do you need to see Haulani? He's not the most hospitable Pokemon here…" the dual type muttered out, glancing between the group. "But, I guess-"
"Don't listen to her! I'll take you guys to meet Haulani!" Leimomi interrupted, walking to the front of the group. "She doesn't know what she's talking about!" she exclaimed smugly, walking forward.
"Are we seriously following a child?" Layla groaned, flying slowly. "I'm not sure I like this too much."
"You never like anything!" Nyx snapped. "Nothing we do is good enough for you! You think everything revolves around you!"
"Cause it basically does, I have easy contact to Eira and-"
"It doesn't! The world doesn't revolve around you! You're not the perfect Pokemon! You have flaws just like the rest of us!" she whimpered out quietly. "If you're not gonna change the way you act, I'm done. I'm done trying to be nice if all you're gonna be is a narcissist," she concluded, catching up to the others.
Layla grumbled out quietly, catching up to the group as well. She let out a quiet sigh, staring longingly ahead of her.
"Now, at this pace, we'll be at the dock by sundown," Leimomi commented, changing her walk to a trot. "We can cut time off if we pick up the pace!"
•~~~~•
The sun slowly set over the horizon, painting the sky different shades of red, yellow, and orange. Acacius let out a quiet sigh, looking up to the sky. The smell of the saltwater filled the air, making his nose shrivel slightly.
Leimomi stopped near the dock. "I say we should continue on the trek to Poni Island!" she commanded, staring off into the horizon. "Sleeping can wait until we get there."
Layla rolled her eyes, glaring at the Alolan Vulpix. "I wanna sleep, though, so that's what I'm gonna do."
"No, you're not," Flynt groaned out, glaring at the bug/flying type. "If we all have to stay up, you are going to as well."
"Well, you are a dark type. You're made for the night. I, however, am not. I thrive for the daylight and sun," she retorted, returning the Zoroark's glare. "So, I'm sleeping."
Acacius walked over to the arguing pair, silently glaring at the Ledian. "Layla, if we all are staying up, you are too. Now, we need to plan what we are gonna do when we get to Poni Island," he stated, his gaze shifting to the others.
Nyx just silently watched from the back of the group. She fiddled with her claws slightly, glancing up every now and then to see if she can pick up any important information from the arguments and conversations.
Slight glimmers of yellow, pink, green, and blue caught the female Zoroark's gaze. "What are those…?" she muttered quietly to herself. Her gaze shifted back to the others momentarily, before she looked back into the direction of the colors. To her disappointment though, they were gone. "Guess I'm imagining things now… The joys of traveling with others, I guess…" she whimpered out slightly and walled closer to the others.
"Okay guys! The boat should be arriving any minute now," Leimomi called out. Her gaze shifted to Layla for a moment. "I guess you guys can sleep on the way there," she continued, directing the sentence at the Ledian.
A few moments passed until the hum of the boat's motor broke the silence and parked near the dock. Ekon walked off the boat and smiled at Acacius, Layla, Nyx, and Flynt.
"Welcome back, my friends! I see you need my service once again," he greeted, his gaze shifting towards Leimomi and Amaria. "Seems you four had some help getting across this island."
"Yeah, what's it to you?" Leimomi snapped, glaring at the Machamp. "You don't get to decide you travel with them and who doesn't!"
"Sorry, Miss!" he replied sincerely, smiling at the Alolan Vulpix. "So, what's the destination?" Ekon asked, directing the question to all of them.
"Poni Island," Acacius piped in before Leimomi could say something rude. "We're going to meet Haulani."
"If that's the case, I'll take you all the way to the Altar of the Moone to meet him! Though, don't be surprised if he's fused with Amaris or Freyr," the fighting type let out a hearty laugh.
"The foreigners don't know who you're talking about," Leimomi said, looking at Ekon.
"Oh, right! Amaris is the moon goddess Lunala and Freyr is the sun go Solgaleo," Ekon responded. "Legends and facts say that every now and again Haulani will fuse with Amaris, creating Dawn Wings Necrozma, and Freyr, creating Dusk Mane Necrozma."
"Now, let's go! I don't wanna be on Haulani's island longer than I have to," she continued, trotting on to the boat.
Acacius, Ekon, Flynt, Layla, and Nyx all followed the sassy Vulpix. Amaria, however, went back to Mount Lanakila to do her own thing.
"Judging by how rowdy the sea is, we should be there by about midday tomorrow. So, settle down and get ready for a long ride," Ekon said, while all the passengers went to their own areas on the boat.
•~~~~•
The sun was high, signaling it was midday. Many Pelipper and Wingull chirped and soared overhead, waking Acacius, Flynt, Layla, Leimomi, and Nyx.
"Looks like you all are awake!" Ekon smiled. "I can see the altar from here, won't be long now!"
"I'm gonna stay on the boat. You all have fun though!" Leimomi said, curling up again.
"Whatever, not like you were gonna help much anyway…" Acacius mumbled as the boat pulled up to dock.
"We're here! Also, if Haulani appears as a gold dragon, you'll have to fight him," Ekon warned before ushering them off the boat. "Good luck!"
Acacius, Layla, Flynt, and Nyx exited the boat. The group made their way to the altar, noticing how the canyon flourishes with Pokemon.
Once they got there, however, a Kommo-o stopped them. "Halt!" They exclaimed, their voice sounding feminine. "Why do you come to the Altar of the Moone?"
"I'd like to know who I'm answering to," Layla retorted, staring intently at the dragon/fighting type.
"Very well," they responded, returning Layla's stare. "My name is Kamea; I'm the personal guard for Haulani. Now, what brings you here."
"Elidi sent us to see him. May we enter?" Nyx responded, looking at Kamea.
"Do as you must," she answered, stepping away from the entrance.
Acacius led the four into the altar. Sitting directly in front of him, at the top of the altar, was Haulani in his ultra form.
"What brings you here?" Haulani asked, his voice sounding intimidating. "Better yet who sent you?"
"Elidi sent us, sir," Acacius responded, looking up at the Legendary Pokemon. "And we're here for a dual."
"Your challenge has been accepted," the Psychic/Dragon type said, flying down to meet them. "The battle starts… NOW!"
Upon saying 'now', Haulani used Swords Dance, greatly raising the power of his attacks. Immediately after, Acacius used Shadow Ball, which did a bit of damage to Haulani.
Flynt used Taunt, causing the Necrozma to only use his attacking moves. Nyx followed up with a Nasty Plot, raising the power of her attacks. Layla used Bug Buzz, doing a little amount of damage to him.
"I'm sure you guys can do better than that," Haulani taunted. He used Rock Slide on Layla, doing quite a bit of damage to her.
Acacius let out a growl, using Shadow Ball once more. The attack did quite a bit of damage to the dual type, but not enough to leave any physical evidence that he'd been hurt.
Flynt followed up with a Night Slash, going more damage than Acacius's Shadow Balls. Nyx used Night Daze, which did roughly the same amount of damage as Flynt's Night Slash. Haulani's Rock Slide made Layla flinch.
Haulani, who seemed to have ¾ of his health left, used Rock Slide once more, but directed it to Acacius this time. The move missed, however, hitting the ground next to the Espeon.
'Who's the one who needs to get better?" Acacius retorted, using Calm Mind to boost the power of his moves.
Flynt used Shadow Claw, dealing quite a bit of damage to Haulani. Nyx followed with Night Daze again, bringing the dual type down to half of his health. Layla used Bug Buzz again, only doing a bit of damage to the creature.
Haulani growled out, using Rock Slide again. The attack hit both Flynt and Nyx because of how close they were. Acacius used Dazzling Gleam, which brought Haulani down to ¼ of his health.
Flynt shrugged the attack off, using Night Slash on the Necrozma. Nyx, however, just flinched and yelped in pain. Layla—who was struggling to keep herself in flight—just waited this turn out.
Haulani found it hard to gather the energy to use an attack, so he aimed a weak Psycho Cut at Acacius. Acacius took the attack and went to help Layla, which left the two Zoroarks to finish the fight.
Flynt used Night Slash, which did almost enough to faint. Nyx made the final blow with Shadow Ball.
Haulani reverted back to his normal form and fell to the ground. He looked best up, but was still conscious.
Acacius started walking over to him, but was stopped by a familiar voice: "Well done, Acacius!"
He turned around to see Eira.
"You and Layla succeeded in your journey, you can either return to Johto or stay here. It's your choice," she said elegantly, looking down at the four. "I must return now, Kallik and Azar need me back at the tower."
Eira seemed to phase out of existence and Acacius turned back towards his friends.
"So, what are we gonna do now?" he asked, his tail lashing slightly.
"I don't really care what we do right now, all I care about is the pain I'm in!" Layla snapped, still struggling to stay in the air.
Nyx glanced at Flynt before speaking, "I kinda miss Unova."
     "And Cadenza," Flynt finished.
"I guess we're going to Ekon and seeing if he'll take us to Unova," Acacius stated and started to walk out of the altar.
•~~~~•
BThe group ended up talking to Ekon and he said he could take them to Unova. So, after they took Leimomi back to Ula'Ula Island, that's what they did.
Layla and Acacius said their goodbyes to Ekon, Flynt, and Nyx, before heading back to Johto.
•~~~~•
Upon reaching the Johto side of the Unova-Johto border, Layla let out a sigh.
"What's on your mind?" Acacius asked, looking at his bug-type companion.
"That was an interesting adventure, Acacius," she started, before glancing around. "As weird as it is for me to say this, I'll miss Nyx and Flynt. They were good company."
"I see what you mean," he responded.
The two walked in silence for a while, something that didn't happen a lot with the others. They recalled all of the events that happened on their journey—good and bad.
After miles of walking, they made it back to the forest and went their separate ways. Little did they know, they would be meeting their friends again under similar circumstances at a much later date.
