This, comodification of art is a terrible thing, I've been artsy since childhood, drawing, painting etc and heard countless times "but how are you going to make money out of this?" from friends and family, which was absolutely demotivating.

It feels like you can't enjoy something for the sake of enjoying it, it must be sold.

It felt especially bad since my parents pushed me towards sports "because it's healthy" despite the fact that I won't make money from idk running, well, painting my little warhammer figurines and drawing makes me not want to kill myself so maybe it is also healthy but that does not make money so it's worthless I guess.

Tbh Im always kinda taken aback by the amount of genuine bile people have for unskilled or amateurish art. I think it's truly rare that something is bad enough to deserve scorn. In my mind that requires a hostile mean-spiritedness. It's too easy to find interesting things in poorly made art.
