I feel like there's a lot of potential in a niche I have been calling "Yuri for gay men," which is to say, FF romance inspired by stuff like Death Becomes her, Romy and Michelle, Legally Blonde, the kind of hyper feminine women in extremely fashionable and elaborate outfits and impeccable makeup being catty and throwing wine at each other before making out.
#were I a faster writer#to be clear the audience would not just be gay dudes but I don't have a pithier way to refer to the kind of high fashion focus I mean

My desire to read and review all the big three Dramione fics that got pro published is being severely tested by seeing that the last one out next month is 1000 pages long.
Why in the world
#i am sad to say that as of right now objectively the dramiones are failing where the Reylos have succeeded#I have nice things to say about hurricane wars and the love hypothesis#and not really anything good to say about rose in chains or TIUTFILWYE

I think there's this problem where a subset of The Left has assigned a positive moral value to the amorphous concept of kink, but a negative moral value to any individual actual kinks. so you get people gleefully calling themselves perverted freaks but then you scroll down their posts and it's like s&m is abusive and teacher/student roleplay is gross and petplay is basically bestiality and if you don't use a safeword for every scene and check in every three minutes then you're evil and if you wear a collar in the grocery store you're basically committing sexual assault on everyone who sees you. and it's like I dunno man I think you might just be vanilla. which is only a problem because you yourself don't seem to know that.

My jaw was on the floor when I found this out, I have been going completely feral oh my god RAHUL KOHLI 🫶
A single ray of sunlight pierces Castle Dracula. Rahul Kohli joins the Drăculești cast as your last, best hope in the darkness: Jonathan Harker.
Rahul appears all across the 'Flanaverse' (Midnight Mass, The Haunting of Bly Manor, The Fall of the House of Usher...) and elsewhere in TV, film, and games - like Stray Gods (Minotaur) and the upcoming Saros (Arjun).
Support the Drâculeşti Kickstarter campaign today! We've hit our base goal, but we have exciting stretch goals ahead - like a physical artbook! 💛

Oh this isn't a book but i need more people to watch this show even if it is canceled now: Sir from found. If you can bear some very cringe but well meaning but CRINGE therapy speak in a police procedural for moms, Sir is a delight. He's played by a very Dilfy Zack from Saved by the Bell, and he's just truly the world's most evil sub. Truly a pathetic little man. Also not a romance, sorry, but again, my list my rules.
Can you tell me more about men who are just little worms ?
Oh friend, I have a LIST
So my disclaimer is there's definitely more wormy subby romantic leads out there, I just don't make a habit of reccomending books I don't think are good. This is a curated list, not a database. I'm still working on the database.
In the realm of romance:
Xander from Bound and Tide (by AK Caggiano) - a smug, bratty, slutty bisexual prissy rich boy forced on a quest to rediscover his family. He is rejected by a single woman once in his life, and this breaks his brain and he spends the rest of the book trying desperately to get her to say a single nice thing about him. Yearns and begs like he got a five year degree in it
Varis from Claimed by The Flame of Faery (Mallory Dunlin) - the beast in a beauty and the beast retelling. While Isabela is out here stabbing people with forks and being a stone cold badass, he's an intimidating, monstrous aristocrat... And then immediately cracks to reveal the neediest little worm in the world. Touch starved as all hell. Two cocks and dragon scales. Somehow even needier when in heat. Is so happy when Bells is mean to him
Mikhail from Preferential Treatment (Heather Guerre) - Russian self made billionaire, straight up says money can buy anything, none emotional intelligence. A hot employee of his scolds him for entering her personal space, and he immediately begins comparing her to a wrathful Slavic goddess. Wants her to spend his money then NOT fuck him. If you are this man hit me up.
Viktor/Puca from Flawed Creatures (Beatrix Hollow) - alas really mostly only a sub to guys, is fairly dominant with Lacey, but man. Obsessed to a pathetic degree with her, manages to completely fuck up what attraction she had to his leering stalker ways by just kinda blurring out "I love you" and breaking any mystique he had. Wish Lacey had given him the strap, but alas
Not romance but this is my list I can do what I want:
💖DARLINGTON💖 from Ninth House (Leigh Bardugo) - this is a dark fantasy but like. Chapter ten. This shiny golden retriever knight in shining armor gets doused with inhibition lowering smoke and immediately swears fealty to the protagonist as her lowly knight, and she her monstrous cosmic queen, and proceeds to try to eat her out in public. Then the plot happens and he's even more desperate in book two. Minor warning for this one as it's WAAAAAAY darker a book than my other recommendations.
Saintangel from The Familiar (Leigh Bardugo) - he's not as straight up submissive as Darlington, sadly, but he is down bad. Any man who lets himself get stabbed to shreds because he's in a good mood because a mean girl noticed him for a minute deserves to be on this list.
Iggy from Die Horny (Rebecca Mock) - this one is a comic. This man was born to Hench, he is the henchiest man ever and every moment his villainess isn't stepping on him is a moment he is wasting. I genuinely hope Mock makes more of these, it was so good.
Consider this a list under construction as well, I got 150 femdom romance titles to read and I have only gotten through maybe a dozen.

wait what's aimé like! I've been so excited to learn more about him 👀👀👀👀 love a problematic knight
I try not to just ramble too much about my intentions because talking about a thing is a good way to avoid actually writing the dang thing, but I can paint a beautiful picture via the things and characters that influenced him
Tho if you must get a general vibe of what I'm going for, it's "what if Leon deserved it"
#from left to right top to bottom#darkness from konosuba#sir from found#Leon from resident evil#sir Gawain from the green knight#the dsm 5#a sad puppy#Darlington from ninth house#Harry dubois from disco Elysium#asks#aimé#k+b

Reading a book that's been enjoyable so far the prince character is also named Aimé, which has uh. Uh. It's hard not to think of my oc while I'm reading it and this has maybe colored my perceptions a little
#Prince Aimé-Victor here is only a normal amount of misogynist it seems#as opposed to my Aimé who is uh#uhhhhhhhhh

It's so sad to me to see people promote things like Lord of the Rings to teenage boys. They're impressionable and naive, I don't think they understand how vulnerable they would be in a relationship with a supernatural being who's thousands of years older than them.
Oh yeah, I know Harley Quinn and Catwoman aren't abusive TO BRUCE, but that's not how it works in real life. It's not enough to say it's a fantasy, you're normalizing getting in a relationship with someone who's violent and manipulative, and it doesn't work out like it does in your little comics sweetie.
"it's not that deep, they like tsunderes and yandere because it's a fun little fantasy, not real life" yeah but these are young impressionable boys we're talking about. Unlike girls, who are knowledgeable and discuss abuse in relationships and even have whole genres discussing this kind of stuff, boys just don't think critically about this stuff at all. I'm not saying they're just too stupid to be able to understand any media at all. But.
Finally, my hottest of takes is that if you're concern trolling about how women should stop reading romance novels because they're being indoctrinated into future abusive relationships, you must be equally of the opinion that men should stop watching anime and reading cape comics. Full stop.

#think of all the poor boys who are being indoctrinated into abusive relationships!#Chris Claremont is telling them it's good and romantic and sexy when a woman mind controls you on a leash!#all these boys are being taught that it's cute when a tsundere punches you!#think of the damage caused by Asuka Langley Soryu!#I'm not saying the boys aren't horny or can't have kinks but really they should think about what they're consuming!#unlike women who are reading romance and aware it's all kink and fake and having real discussions about it#these dang boys are just so naive and impressionable#makes me so sad to see#I saw a man reblog a picture of Harley Quinn and did my due diligence of responding and explaining to him she's clearly abusive#and he should stop romanticizing his own abuse and critisize his own kinks#🙃

I do feel bad it seems like I'm always recommending a handful of things over and over but my argument is plainly: most books are bad in a very boring way. It's hard to find the good stuff, I only have so many hours in a day, and even if you're super discerning and specific, chances are half the stuff you'll read you would not recommend anyways. It is what it is.

It's SO GOOD it genuinely got me to pick up a pen again. It's so very earnest and whole hearted in its romance and again, kinda rough first fifth/quarter, but by the end of the first book I was kicking my feet like a teenage girl with a crush, it's just such a satisfying climax and great cliffhanger ending, I ended up reading the next two books over like three days. It manages to be funny and wacky but really hit all the fantasy romance beats so well.
So my romantasy book reccomendations:
Throne in the Dark, and the villains and virtues trilogy by AK Caggiano- Oh this is the good shit it's the second book I've ever read. A Pratchett style romcom between a brooding emo shadow wizard and a bubbly blonde thief. It takes about 60-ish pages to really hit its stride but man. And actual real slow burn. Sadly Damian was assigned top at birth (check what his name means), but hey, the maledom girlies need good rep too. It's even trad published now.
Bound to Fall by AK Caggiano - see above, but with a himbo paladin and the saddest wettest cat of a woman.
Bound and Tide by AK Caggiano - see above above, but with a bratty asshole sub and a hot fiery Domme. This was so good if nothing else read this
Anything by Mallory Dunlin: these tend towards being kinda just erotica, but man are they a fun time. My personal pick is Claimed By The Flame of Faerie because Bells is such a gruff female protag and Varis is such a pathetic little worm. Good fun reads, surprisingly apt second generation immigrant metaphor
His Secret Illuminations by Scarlett Gale - bimg warrior woman. Small scholarly monk who needs to keep his vow of chastity if he keeps wanting to have magic. He is suffering. It's great.
Swordheart by T Kingfisher - what if your magic sword also gave you a hot gruff bodyguard sworn to protect you. Not very far in this one but like. That setup, and by all accounts Kingfisher is the queen of tomantasy not treading the beaten path.
The Wind Weaver by Julie Johnson - not really a freak sicko mode pick, i liked it mostly for the nostalgic feeling it gave me. It's a more romantic version of the kinds of books I used to read as a kid: secret magical powers in a vaguely medieval European setting, secret princes, kinda flat villains. But hey it was a fun time, honestly, I really like Rhya, her romance with Penn is fine but I wish he had just been more pathetic, yanno?
Lord of Stariel by AJ Lancaster - kinda similar vibe to Swordheart, but with a more gaslamp fantasy vibe. Pretty cozy, sweet.
Preferential Treatment by Heather Guerre - Not a romantasy but. But what if 50 Shades of grey but good and femdom I am always reccomending this, please read it, please.
Flawed Creatures by Beatrix Hollow - insane bonkers femsub reverse harem paranormal romance where all the dudes are fucking each other too. Just bonkers nonsense. Viktor wants to eat Lacey. There's an undead cowboy. It's so good
