Biting down on her lip, it was something Riley always did when she was nervous. “You mean is true.” She spoke as she leaned toward him saying that our of habit just being close to him. She missed it everyday but kept telling herself it was for the best. When he opened the door for her it made her heart skip a beat as she got in and thanked him. “Beating them up won’t do anyone any good.”

Lips curled into a small smirk as he nudges Riley’s side with a playful eye roll, “Yeah, yeah.” Other than his parents, of course -- he was sure Riley knew him better than anyone. “I mean...” He tilts his head side to side as he starts the car, instantly turning the booming music down. “...It could, but it’s probably not the brightest idea.” While Phoenix has been in a number of fights, they were all somewhat justified. He took after his father when it came to protecting those he cared for. One hand came to rest on the back of Riley’s head seat as he looked behind them, reversing out of the parking spot he was in before putting it in drive. “I can’t really see you as the type of person to get revenge, especially over something so petty.” He offers her a dimpled smile.

“Well.. mom said we could get a dog, or I can so I’m picking him up today.”

“Why did you have to ask mom for that?” Phoenix asks with brows drawn together, “I mean yeah -- her house. But you’re over eighteen.” He shrugs, “What kind of dog are you going to get?”

“Ah, so she’s a party girl I see.” Skylar laughed shaking her head to her brother.

“You could say that.” Phoenix tilts his head side to side with a small laugh, “So aside from drowning yourself in coffee, what are you up to?”

“I know you better than you know yourself.” Riley countered with a smile. It was things like this that she missed about Phoenix, how caring he was toward her. “Yes sir.” She spoke as she walked toward his car.

“I’ve heard that from you once or twice before.” Phoenix laughs, unlocking the car as they near it. “It might be true.” He gave her that. Before he went to his side of the car, he opened the passenger door for Riley. A habit he didn’t think he’d ever outgrow. Walking around to his side, Phoenix got in then. “You sure you don’t want me to beat them up for you?” The small joke falls from his lips with a light smile.

“Maybe…” She didn’t mean it when she said it, knowing that he wasn’t troubled by her. She bite her lip at his smirk. “Okay, I’ll accept the offer.”

“And here I thought you knew me better than that.” Phoenix laughs softly as he grabs his car keys, “C’mon then, don’t want you stewing in...whatever that drink was.”

“Coffee or significant other?” Phoenix asks, his mind drifting to Riley for a hot second. Shaking himself out of it then, “Jack Daniels. Usually hangs out behind the bar.”

“Psh, I wouldn’t call it stubborn, just that I don’t like troubling anyone.” She pretested with a hum in her voice. “If you give me a ride your car is going to get sticky though. You wouldn’t want that now, then I’d have to own you or clean it.”

“Do I look like I’m troubled by you?” Phoenix points out with a dimple inducing smirk, “My seats are leather, and even so you wouldn’t have to owe me, I’m offering.”

As her eyes dropped down from looking at her shirt back up toward Phoenix, part of her heard stopped as she looked to him, “It’s not a big deal.. I can just go home and change. It’s not too far.” Even though it was a half hour walk.

“Still stubborn, I see.” Phoenix laughs, shoving his phone in the back of his pocket. “If you’re not gonna take me up on that then at least let me give you a ride. Your house is a trek for a walk.”

Phoenix lifts a brow at his little sister, “That’s one for every meal you’re supposed to have throughout the day.” He points out with a laugh, “You’re gonna be up all night.”

“Okay.. but before you tell me that I’ve had enough this is only my third today.” Skylar spoke quickly as she brought the coffee to her lips.

Brows were drawn together as Phoenix looked to the puzzling text on his phone, after a bit he hashed it out that his friend was just drunk out of his mind talking nonsense. Looking up just in time for some people to push past him in a fit of laughter, he looked in the direction they ran from only to see Riley covered in a drink. Putting two together wasn’t that difficult, “They’re assholes.” He comments mindlessly, “I think we have some extra shirts in the office if you want to borrow one?”

As Riley felt like she was in her own little world she stopped to think about where she wanted to go next until someone walked up and threw their drink at her before laughing and running away, leaving her in a gasp.
