All you need to know about National Pipe Tapered threads!
There are many different types of threads that can be used for different kinds of couplings. And one such is NPT. NPT refers to National Pipe Tapered threads, and it is a kind o9f standard to measure the tapered threads, pipes, and fittings. Tapered threads are used widely as they pull the thread tight in order to make the seal closer. National Pipe Tapered thread can be used with both full coupling and NPT half coupling.
Let us know the characteristics of National Pipe Tapered threads which are as follows:-
• The roots and crests of these are flat. • Has a 60 degrees thread angle. • The angle between the center and the taper is just 1 degree.
Let us know everything about the National Pipe Tapered threads that are important and are as follows:-
1. Size
The tapered thread has a size chart that includes the dimensions of both the external and internal pipe threads. The rate of the tapered threads is measured by the change in the diameter over some specific distance.  There are many different sizes of tapered threads like ¼, 1/8, ½,3/4,1 1/2, 2 and many others. All the sizes are used for different purposes, and the fewer sizes are more commonly used than the larger sizes like 2.

2. Leakage issues
NPT threads were designed for fulfilling the purpose of water pipe plumbing and not for the hydraulic system as these systems have high-pressure applications and tend to leak. These tapered threads are likely to leak when they are under tightened. Also, it is required to have the sealant placed on the threads before you start assembling it in tapered threads.
3. Leak-free seal
It is better to check the different thread gauges and find out the one that has the tightest fit. You need to engage more threads in the gauge as it will provide the accurate reading if more threads are engaged or attached to it. You need to determine the angle of the seal with the angle of gauge, and by this, you will get the leak-free seal.
Moving further, the things mentioned above are enough to have complete knowledge about the National Pipe tapered threads. These can be used in both the types of coupling like half coupling and the full coupling according to the dimensions that are required to use.
