Shadow glanced over at this one for a short moment, before his saddened expression turned stern and looked ahead again. Those kind words should have been enough to heal his still hurting heart, but there was always that persisting pain. It almost burned a hole in his chest, if it had been possible to do so.

"I can't control myself, when I get like this... It's dangerous to be around me." He warned, and even though his power was still relatively quiet, it was always waiting to provoke and ignite inside.

"Wha--" Sonic shot him a look that he couldn't see from that turned-away angle, but there was annoyance and hurt in his gaze from those words. He clearly didn't need to hear it from him, but it still was awful to mostly know it was true. "What the heck is wrong with you?? Why are you always so cold to like everyone??" He just didn't understand it, at all. The other hedgehog was still being this way, despite everything that's gone down. "Do you really think Eggman is the person to side with here?? He's just going to betray you. He always does!"

"Back off! I'm warning you!"

His breaths were quick, stressful little puffs of air as he was still reeling from everything that's happened so far. The blue hedgehog had been backed into a corner, holding back as much of his power as he could. Yet, even now it was proving to be difficult with the other looming so aggressively, acting the way he was. There was a lot going through Sonic's head, and most of all being this crushing, mind-racing thought that he 'just wasn't fast enough'.

The fear of something ever happening to any of those he cared about haunted him as far back as he could remember, Longclaw being one of his biggest regrets. Time and time again, it had already come close several times with his family here on Earth. Even now, as the seconds ticked on by, the weight of these unreasonable worries were all on his shoulders. Tom, Maddie, Tails and Knuckles... they were all counting on him.
