——  ♡   typically  ,  soren  was  over  to  bother  adrian  ,  but  today  ,  they  came  seeking  matthew .  despite  how  they  both  shared  a  passion  for  music  ,  the  duo  rarely  bonded  over  it .  ❛  you’re  a  music  guy  ,  right ?  ❜  they  inquired  ,  somewhat  rhetorically  ,  heading  straight  for  the  couch  as  soon  as  the  door  was  opened  for  them .  soren  had  two  small  cloth  instrument  cases  in  each  hand  ,  setting  them  down  gently  on  the  couch  .  they  unzipped  one  and  revealed  a  ukulele   ,  carefully  holding  it  out  to  their  friend .  “ever  play  one  of  these ?”  soren  asked  probably  too  excitedly  and  too  loudly . “ c’mon  ,  i’ll  teach  you ! ”  /    @orphicfms​​   !​

——  ♡   kelsey  liked  to  bake  ,  but  she  wouldn’t  consider  herself  an  expert  by  any  means .  today’s  experiment  was  blondies .  she’d  packed  a  couple  into  a  small  tin  and  placed  a  small  sticky - note  on  top  with  lei’s  name  and  a  heart .  she  padded  across  the  hall  in  her  fuzzy  socks  and  big  hoodie  ,  not  really  thinking  twice  before  knocking  gently  and  placing  the  small  container  on  the  ground  in  front  of  the  door  .  ❛  it’s  kelsey  …  made  you  somethin’ !  ❜  she  softly  called  ,  slowly  turning  to  walk  back  to  her  own  apartment .   /    @orphicfms​​   !​

——  ♡   leilani  was  home  to  soren  ,  or  at  least  a  welcome  reminder  of  it .  while  he’d  eventually  moved  away  from  hawaii  ,  he  still  saw  her  occasionally  at  larger  family  gatherings .  the  both  of  them  now  being  in  miami  was  ,  though  driven  by  unfortunate  and  solemn  circumstance  ,  a  sort  of  blessing .   soren  liked  to  make  it  an  at  least  weekly  effort  to  do  something  with  lei  ,  knowing  at  least  his  parents  would  want  him  to .  today  ,  he’d  planned  for  lunch .   he  shot  her  a  text  and  waited  in  the  lobby .  the  message  read  :   ❛  in  lobby  ,  u  ready  2  go  ?  poke  4  lunch ?  :)  ❜   /    @orphicfms​​   !​

——  ♡   to  say  soren  was  grateful  for  the  small  businesses  ran  by  his  friends  and  neighbours  would  be  an  understatement .  he  was  proud  of  them  ,  and  he  was  proud  to  contribute  in  any  way  he  could  ,  even  if  that  was  just  with  near  daily  visits . happy  cow  was  probably  his  favourite  place  to  eat  out  of  all  the  local  places  in  miami  ,  but  maybe  he  was  a  little  biased  seeing  as  he  knew  the  owner  and  was  a  sucker  for  a  good  veggie  burger .  soren  was  surprised  to  find  there  wasn’t  a  line  as  he  skated  up  to  the  truck  ,  but  he  also  knew  he  never  at  his  meals  at  the  typical  times .  the  pink - haired  aries  skated  to  a  stop  and  walked  the  short  rest  of  the  way  over  ,  dropping  his  board  on  the  ground  next  to  him .  he  quicky  drummed  his  hands  on  the  small  metal  ledge  that  was  the  counter  of  violet’s  food  truck  .  ❛   the  usual  ,  please  ,  m’lady .  ❜   soren  grinned  ,  reaching  for  his  wallet  in  his  back  pocket .  “ so  how’ve  you  been ?  food  network  call  begging  you  to  fuckin’  beat  bobby  flay’s  ass  yet ? ”  he  joked  ,  though  he  knew  she  could  do  it .  /    @dreamlxndsfm​    !​

——  ♡   it  had  been  a  few  days  since  kelsey  had  had  a  run  -  in  with  adrian  ,  something  she  had  almost  let  herself  get  used  to .   so  ,  here  she  was  .  outside  of  his  door  ,  his  favourite  drink  in  hand .  or  at  least  she’d  hoped  it  was  his  favourite  –  she’d  remembered  seeing  him  with  it  once  or  twice .   she’d  just  gotten  off  work  and  thought  of  him  ,  and  thought  it  could  be  nice  grab  him  something  on  her  way  out  and  pay  him  a  little  visit .  she  inhaled  ,  trying  to  work  up  the  confidence  to  just  knock .  what’s  the  worst  that  could  happen ?  her  slender  fingers  reached  out  and  rapped  gently  on  the  door  in  an  almost  melodic  way .  she  couldn’t  help  but  suddenly  feel  very  self - conscious  of  her  entire  appearance  –  attempting  to  fix  it  by  tentatively  tugging  at  her  skirt  and  brushing  down  the  top  of  her  hair  .  this  was  normal  ,  right ?  friends  who  haven’t  seen  friends  in  a  while  go  to  check  up  on  their  friends  ….  right ?   she  spoke  shyly  after  knocking  ,  and  hoped  it  wasn’t  too  quietly  —  ❛   hey  ,  adrian  ?  it’s  me  ,  it’s  kelsey .  ❜   /    @dreamlxndsfm​     !​

——  ♡   ❛   yooooo  ,  adrian  !  open  up  !  ❜   soren  called  as  he  banged  on  his  friend’s  door .   he  figured  it  was  a  50/50  chance  of  who  would  answer  between  adrian  and  matthew  ,  and  a  50/50  chance  that  either  would  open  the  door  at  all .  after  finding  out  the  pair’s  shared  apartment  was  in  the  same  spot  as  his  and  gracie’s  apartment  ,  just  one  floor  apart  ,  soren  made  a  point  to  befriend  them  both  --   though  he  still  couldn’t  be  sure  if  either  liked  him .  he  didn’t  mind .

“ but  okay  so  listen  ...  like  ...  i  just  got  this  package  ...  and  i  think  it’s  either  a  fast  and  furious  boxset  or  my  hello  kitty  chia  pet  , ”   he  started  to  explain  ,  waiting  a  moment  before  continuing  as  he  listened  for  any  sign  of  action  on  the  other  side  of  the  door  ,  “  and  ,  like  ,  i  reeeaaallyyy  need  you  to  be  there  with  me  when  i  open  it  . ”   soren  knocked  once  more .  “ it’s  important  to  me  that  you  be  there  and  watch  the  movies  with  me  or  read  the  instructions  to  me . ”  one  last  knock .   /    @dreamlxndsfm​     !

she was surprised to see soren. they lived upstairs from clara, so she didn’t expect to see them at the door. as much as she wanted to be back in her bed, petting petunia’s soft head, and struggling through her reading in peace, she suddenly felt guilty for the remorse that soren felt. before she could reassure him, she found herself genuinely smiling at his question, “yeah, of course.” when soren left to speak to the rowdy partiers, clara could feel the warmth in her cheeks. she found herself thinking in circles about what to say about her homework. nothing about it would be interesting despite how masterfully she could try to spin it. she desperately wished she was reading something obscure like an old stephen king novel or a new nonfiction release instead. when soren returned, clara asked them, “so… how much interest do you really have in legal contracts?”

——  ♡   as  soren  disappeared  to  talk  to  the  group  ,  they  wondered  what  exactly  they’d  say .  the  truth  usually  works  --  but  the  truth  ,  and  their  true  feelings  for  clara  ,  were  too  hard  to  admit  to  even  themself  lately  .  they’d  kept  it  as  short  as  possible  ,  not  wanting  to  keep  clara  waiting  too  long .   words  were  exchanged  ,  and  the  music  stopped  --  the  party  deciding  to  move  to  some  nearby  bar  ,  soren  deciding  to  stick  with  clara .  they’d  hoped  for  the  rest  of  the  night .

❛   honestly ,  ❜     they  replied  upon  their  return  --  a  wince  in  their  voice  ,  then  a  small  laugh ,   “ none .  but  trust  me  ,  i’ve  got  plenty  in  you -- ”  they  wanted  to  punch  themselves  for  that  .  they  wished  she’d  known  how  much  he’d  meant  it .  “  --  so  by  default  ,  guess  i’ve  got  tons . ”  soren  couldn’t  help  but  just  stare  for  a  moment  ,  forgetting  everything  going  on  behind  them .  “ hey  ,  would  you  mind  if  i  kept  you  company  for  a  while ?  you  can  tell  me  more  ,  or -- or  i  could  read  ‘em  to  you , ”  they  offered  in  a   low  and  gentle  voice ,  “ if  that’s  ,  ya  know  ,  legal .  give  your  pretty  little  eyes  a  break ?  i’m  sure  i’m  easier  on  them  than  all  that  lawyer  jargon  ,  anyways . ”  another  small  moment  passed  before  soren  spoke  once  more  ,  “ so what  d’ya  think ?  i’ll  make  you  some  tea  or  somethin’ ? ”   they  feared  they  were  crossing  a  boundary  with  the  blonde  ,  but  soren  just  found  it  easier  than  ever  tonight  to  give  in .

isaac rolled their eyes playfully at soren’s comment, the two of them were practically inseparable and even that was an understatement. “it’s only been like ten minutes…space is okay for a healthy relationship.” he chuckled as he handed the package over. “i needed a brake anyways, lets open this mystery box up!” isaac said enthusiastically while stepping inside and making their way to the living room. “please don’t tell me it’s another tiktok purchase via amazon? let’s at least hope it’s something useful.” he plopped down on the couch.

——  ♡   ❛   hey  ,  ten  minutes  is  a  long  time ,  ❜   soren  defended  through  a  laugh ,  closing  the  door  behind  his  friend ,  “  and  plenty  of  space . ”  soren  walked  over  to  the  small  shared  kitchen  area  ,  nearly  throwing  down  the  package  on  the  counter  before  grabbing  the  scissors .  “  break  from  what ?”  they  asked  ,  though  the  answer  didn’t  really  matter  ---  they  knew  their  best  friend  could  almost  always  use  one .  soren  scoffed  ,  defensive once  more ,  “it’s  been  like  ,  two  weeks  since  the  last  one .  cut  me  some  slack .  but  no  promises  it’s  not  from  an  instagram  ad  this  time .”   they  finally  got  the  package  finally  open  ,  but  didn’t  glance  inside .  instead  ,  they  walked  it  over  to  the  couch  ,  placing  it  on  the  coffee  table  in  front  of  isaac  and  spoke  dramatically ,  “ you  look .  i  can’t  do  it. ”  soren  flopped  down  next  to  the  other  ,  and  waited .

it all happened so fast—one minute lola had taken a seat to catch her balance after drunkenly stumbling in after a night out and the next thing she knew her eyes were fluttering open, the sun was out and she was being shaken awake by someone in the middle of her apartment complex’s lobby. “oh my god…” she groaned, her eyes squinting as she looked out the window. “don’t tell me i fell asleep down here…already this is the worst day of my life and i don’t even know what day it is” she sat up, hand moving to rub her eyes and pull her hair back into a ponytail as she finally began to wake up. “do you know what time it is? and maybe where i can go get some water before i pass out—i don’t think i’ll make it all the way up to my room” she sighed, her hangover starting to settle in.

——  ♡   ❛   wakey  ,  wakey  ❜     soren  sang   ,  giving  the  girl  a  gentle  shake .  they  were  on  their  way  out  for  a  skate  around  the  neighbourhood  when  they  found  lola  in  the  lobby  ,  abandoning  their  backpack  and  board  in  the  corner  to  kneel  down  and  attempt  to  wake  her  up  or  check  her  pulse  ,  if  need  be .  “  i  can’t  do  that   ,  because  that  would  be  a  lie  and  , ”  they  paused  ,  standing  back  up  and  walking  towards  their  stuff  ,  “  i’m  not  a  liar . ”   they  bent  over  to  dig  through  their  backpack  as  the  other  continued  to  speak .  “  it’s  ,  uh  ,  sunday  ...  i  think .  around  noon . ”  they  revealed  a  spare  ,  unopened  bottle  of  water  from  their  bag  ,  with  a  look  that  said  ‘  eh?  pretty  cool  , huh?  ’  .  they  made  the  few  steps  back  towards  her  to  hand  her  the  bottle  ,  opening  it  for  her  before  holding  it  out .  “ need  me  to  walk  you  back  up  ? ”

isaac had been laser focused on getting their draft for their next book together.  he’d been spending most of the day manically writing and brainstorming some more ideas. the knock on their door surprised them, isaac not being one to have uninvited guests too often. after looking through the peephole he swiftly opened the door with  a confused look as a package was placed in front of the door. he thanked the delivery person before realizing it wasn’t supposed to come to them. by that time the driver had already taken off. after looking at the number on the box he headed up to the apartment it belonged to, awkwardly knocking on the door. “….so, i think this was meant for you? it got dropped at my doorstep.” 

——  ♡   ❛   heeeeyyy  ,  man ,  ❜   soren  chuckled  ,  absolutely  delighted  that  his  best  friend  had  stopped  by.   he  gently  hit  izzy  on  the  arm  ,  “long  time  no  see  !”  though  it  had  ,  in  fact  ,  been  the  opposite .  soren  looked  at  the  package  in  his  friend’s  hands  before  taking  it  from  him  for  further  inspection . “ yes !  exactly  what  i  ordered ,”  he  shouted,  “ the  package  is  mine  ,  too .”    bad  joke.   “ nooo  idea  what  it  could  be , ”  he  looked  back  up  at  isaac  with  a  bit  of  mischief  in  his  eyes ,  “ wanna  come  in  and  open  it  with  me ? ”

riley had just walked down to the lobby, humming some song he heard on the radio. on his way out for some coffee, he saw the other, “hey! wanna grab a cup of coffee?” 

——  ♡   kelsey  looked  up  from  her  phone  at  the  other’s  voice  .  ❛   honestly ,  ❜   she started  ,  “  i’m  a  little  coffee’d  out . ”  the  brunette  frowned.  “ but  i’m  just  on  my  way  to  work  if  you  wanna  walk  me  there , ”  she  suggested  quickly  ,  with  a  shy  but  warm  smile  ,  almost  singing  her  next  words -- “ i’ll  get  you  somethin’  for  freeeeee . ”

        his  aim  is  usually  better  than  that  .  the  corners  of  his  lips  pull  into  a  cringe  as  the  football  narrowly  misses  the  person  coming  up  the  walkway  and  hits  the  ground  with  a  loud  thunk  .   “   —  sorry  !  ”   cooper  calls  out  ,  cutting  through  the  grass  as  he  jogs  over  to  retrieve  the  ball  .   “  …  are  you  alright  ?  i  didn’t  see  you  walking  up  ,  that’s  my  bad  .  ”

——  ♡   ❛   oh  shit  ❜    soren  mumbled  to  themselves  ,  seeing  the  ball  coming  towards  them  and  trying  to  dodge  it  while  still  on  his  board --   luckily  he  was  only  at  a  cruising  speed  ,  so  it  was  fairly  easy .  he  moved  to  pick  up  the  ball  and  removed  one  earbud  and  it  dangle  as  he  saw  the  brunette  approaching  ---  “  hey  ,  no  worries  !  ”  he  called  back  with  a  chuckle .  “  yeah  ,  yeah  ,  i’m  alright .  i  should  be  thanking  you  ,  actually  , ”   soren  held  the  ball  out  to  its  owner  ,  “ keeping  me  on  my  toes  ,  keepin’  me  awake . ”

“okay, important question..” she flopped down dramatically on the couch in their living room looking over at soren. “what kind of snacks should we get for movie night? ..”

——  ♡   ❛   uhhhhhhhhhh  ❜    soren  began  and  sustained  as  they  walked  from  the  kitchen  to  their  seat  on  the  couch  next  to  his  roommate .  “ we  could  just  order  something?  like  make  a  quick  candy  run  then  grab  some  takeout  or  something? ” they  suggested .  “ but  next  ,  and  more  importantly  , ”  they  looked  gracie  right  in  the  eye  ,  like  what  they  were  about  to  say  was  the  most  important  thing  in  the  world  ,  even  pausing  for  effect ,  “ what’re  we  watching? ”  they  spoke  with  a  laugh ,  before  gasping--

--   “ oh  ,  right  ,  sorry  ....  what  snacks  were  you  thinking ? ”

“i dunno, i’m feeling like changing my life up. i need some corruption.” he stated, smiling, “i need something i can write about. real and tangible experiences. like, damn, i don’t know. i’m just so tired of everyday being the same, you know?”

——  ♡   kelsey  understood  more  than  she’d  readily  admit .  ❛   how  so ?  ❜   she  asked  curiously  and  genuinely .  “ like  parties  and  junk?  or  like  skydiving? ”  she  paused  for  a  moment  ,  “  i  think  ...  if  you’re  not  happy  ,  then  you  have  the  power  to  change  that  ,  you  know ? ”

clara’s head was throbbing. she could hear every word of the song being blasted on repeat down the hall and had reread the same part of her assigned contracts reading three times to no avail. it wasn’t sinking in and it wouldn’t until the party down the hall stopped. giving up on simply trying to ignore it, she walked outside into the hallway and tapped on the door of the offending unit. “hey,” she said when the door opened, rubbing her forehead in a poor attempt to soothe it, “it’s monday night and i’m trying to read. would you mind ending the party a little early tonight?” 

——  ♡   ❛   clara,  ❜     his  voice  barely  above  a  whisper  ,  surprised  at  the  sight  of  her  on  the  other  side  of  the  door ,   “ hey . ”  it  took  a  second  for  her  words  to  register  to  soren’s  ears  as  he  took  in  her  presence .   the  ‘party’  going  on  behind  them  ,  which  soren  would  have  considered  more  of  a  small  gathering  ,  had  admittedly  gotten  out  of  hand .  a  wave  of  guilt  washed  over  them  at  the  realization  ---  the  party  nor  the  apartment  were  theirs  ,  but  they  should’ve  known  better  ,  aware  of  its  proximity  to  clara .  “ no  ,  no  ,  you’re  right  ...  look  ,  let  me  see  what  i  can  do  ,  yeah ?”   their  voice  gentle  and  a  soft  smile  to  match .  “ promise  i’ll  have  them  shut  up  within  the  hour .  wait  here  ,  i’ll  be  back  in  a  sec ,”  they  promised.  “ but  ,  uh  ,  when  i’m  back  ...  wanna  tell  me  about  what  you’re  reading ? ”
