i ran into your page because of your miku art (which is very cool btw!!!) and ngl, i clicked to see if all your art has no eyes or if it was just the miku. come to find out that you made a post about the "era" of 2016 😭😭😭

genuinely no hate but that makes me feel SOO old lmaoo, 2016 was a lot like today but with less of the co-opting of scene revival that started mostly in 2020 / during covid. lots of jean shorts with lace and cream-colored lacy, light cardigan-style shirt things, "emo quartet" was pretty big at the time (SO cringe, i regret so much of middle school), skinny jeans were still the most popular (it was hard to find literally anything else), shorts had started getting shorter for girls (not quite as short as they are now), boys' shorts were very much still knee-length, converse/vans/docs were mostly worn by queer people, those plain white leather(?) adidas with the 3 black stripes were starting to get popular (i think??), etc. you might see if you can find 2016 yearbooks or something online / at your school if you want more photos of what middle & high schoolers were wearing!!

i'm a bit biased due to being ""uncool"" at the time, but it was definitely interesting. also for posterity i went to school in a very white, formerly-small-town-now-suburb, middle-class area of the midwest, so this might not be accurate to everyone's experience.

ps: if you are looking for a musical vibe of what was happening at the time i have a (spotify) playlist specifically of what i listened to on the radio in 6th grade (2016) and i can link it if u'd like !!

First of all, I feel like I have to apologize for replaying so late lol. But wow, this was really helpful! I was looking through my inboxes because quite a few people messaged me while i was kinda gone for a bit (a lot of them were asking the same questions I had already answered, lol).

However you really inspired me to re-draw their design!

As you can see, I took great inspiration from many cartoons from the 2000s to 2016, as well as from the artist @/brujo_ari_ on IG (I just LOVE the way they draw, wejfweifg).

But yeah, it was fun doing research and learning about the diffrent fasion, trands, and music of the 2016 American era. Thank you!

(Also just wanna point out, while reaserching "emo quartet" a band called My Chemical Romance kept poping up, and I recognize one of there songs called "Welcome to the Black Parade" I just wanna say how fire that song is 🗣️🔥🔥)

OMG this past few months I berly drawn anything!!!

Had to put aside drawing to lock in for School, and college application 😩😩

Then suddenly, art block came around the corner, draging it out even more!??😭😭 (i was really going true it guys 🥀🥀)

But there is always light at the end of the tunnel. I am SOO CLOSE I could practically feel it, my motivationand and confidence has an artist coming back to me lately, am so happy!!!😆

However I don't really expect myself to draw or even post that much beacuse it's still ramadan lol

With school starting back up, I’ve been spending less time drawing. It’s so draining, but I’ve got to focus so I can actually graduate this year 💪😤

Besides that, I randomly got this burst of energy to draw these trio from the era of 2016!

How i even got to there was because I was checking the timeline and avents of Trollhunters and was surprised that they lived in the era of 2016 🎉🎉 I wanted to draw them in different outfits from that time so here you'll go!

just saying i think i was aroud like 7 in 2016, so i really dont know what types of oufits/trends where even populer then lol (pintrest wasent much help either, maby when i come back to this i will do proper reaserch about 2016)

What a great explanation! lol (I didn't even know that; I just always saw images of Miku holding a leek.)

However, not only did I reference a leek in my drawing for Miku, but it's supoosed to reprasent a traditional accessory that Nigerians wear, called an irukere.

tho i swiched it into a leek lol, here's how it would look like:

it's made from animal hair, specifically horsetail. It holds significant importance to Yoruba people, such as their kings, chiefs, priests, and traditional dancers.

In Yoruba traditional beliefs, the irukere is not just a ceremonial tool but also a symbol of power. (Hence, elders, kings, chiefs, priests, or those of special importance are mentioned.)

and i belive miku deserve such great importance 🫡

I've been drawing for as long as I can remember and I've rarely EVER seen another Muslim who didn't draw faces like did! It's so so refreshing to see! Not sure if 'thank you' is the right word, but I'm just do happy to see someone else do does the same 💛🌙

Hi! Your art is so gorgeous I’m very intrested, and Im sorry if this question is rude or tone deaf in any way, but why do you dont draw eyes? I know you've probably had already been asked this- and once again Im sorry if I sound annoying. I just never had seen a stylistic choice like this

To answer your question, it is not a stylistic choice but a islamic choice has i am a muslim Who follow the rules and regulations of Islam ☪️🧕.

In Islam, we believe that drawing people/animals is imitating God's creation. So scholars of Islam advise us that if we were to draw characters, it's best to keep them faceless or with minimal facial features but no eyes. (Facial features give things life in a way, especially the eyes 👀)

DISCLAIMER!!! I'm just a regular Muslim on the internet, so to get a better understanding of this topic, I strongly recommend reading from many trusted Islamic websites or visiting a nearby Mosque, in ur area.
