This disability pride month I'm BEGGING you to acknowledge and care about the people in this community who often fly under the radar when it comes to positivity and information. People who require equipment to live, like ventilators, pacemakers, and feeding tubes. People who are bedbound. People with visible differences. People who have disabilities caused by things like substance abuse, overdose, or self harm. People with conditions so rare that they've never met someone who has the same one. People who need full time care and have to have help to use social media.

If you want to support the community, that means supporting all of the community. Disability pride means being proud of every last one of us, and making sure everyone feels heard. Make sure to amplify the voices of those who need it this month, and ideally for the rest of the year too.

I want black children to be seen as children and not treated like adults. I don’t want black boys to be targeted as black men or black girls to be written off as “acting too grown.”

I want them to pursue their interests and dreams and not have anyone stand in their way. I want them to grow up and only know racism as a thing of the past, something that’s never happened to them.

I want them to be loved, and safe, and supported and respected.

I want a better world for our black children.

Everyone on tumblr has Conditions. maladies. I log onto tumblr and my mutuals are unwellposting. Conditions I didn't even know existed and sound like dark curses but I will see a post from friend like "died about 60% today, fine now. Made egg on toast #yummytoast". There are so many people in this world with life experiences

Post-Retirement Stucky Ficlet

(Read Part 1 Here - Wartime Stucky Headcanon)

While unpacking the boxes of his and Steve's belongings, originally taken by the U.S. government to the Smithsonian archives, and recently 'repatriated' by Steve and Natasha, Bucky discovers his old copy of The Hobbit 1st edition. It's now yellowed and fragile. When he gently opens the pages to read the familiar words, something falls out, an old picture of him and Steve at Coney Island. They’re much younger, with carefree smiles unburdened by what was to come.

To outsiders, the photo was nothing but two friends. It was something people probably wouldn't start asking questions about, but Bucky kept it hidden in his beloved book all the same. It felt intimate, even if Steve wasn't his sweetheart yet. However platonic it looked, if people asked, how could he explain Steve? Or what the two of them meant to each other, without drawing suspicion from the other men? It was easier and safer to keep a low profile, to not risk the blue ticket.

Today, their home is decorated in pictures and mementos of their lives joined in love. One in particular is the very first thing you see entering their home. In pride of place is a lovingly executed painting that Steve created as an anniversary gift for Bucky. The image is taken from a much beloved wedding picture of them.

In it, Steve and Bucky are rosy-cheeked and beaming. Standing side-by-side, the two are draped in a large, rainbow-striped tallit. Their hands are clasped together, still wrapped intricately in handfasting rope. They simultaneously stomp on separate cloth-covered glasses, marking the end of their wedding ceremony.

Their wedding celebrated their pride in their Jewish and Irish identities, honouring their long and interwoven story. A story that always united their two cultures in a loving home filled with warmth and understanding, starting before they were even 20 and Steve's ma had died, carrying with the pair into the next century.

Looking at the old picture in his hand, he realizes he doesn't yearn for those pre-war days anymore. Even if he had to go through hell to get here, the fact he's here with his Stevie, that they're married and can live openly together, that they can even build a family with children, it was worth surviving.
