Tumblr media
Bookish
https://www.bookish.com/
Summary: Bookish is a literary resource in the form of a blog. The goal of Bookish is to provide readers with information about the books, authors, and genres that they love. What makes this blog of such value to LGBTQI identifying teens is that a major focus of the resource is the role it plays in introducing readers to new titles, debut writers, and genres they never thought they’d read.
Often LGBTQI themed titles and their authors have problems connecting with their audiences. The competition to promote titles is so competitive, many little known titles and authors become shunned by mainstream media. This can often also unfortunately be the result of conscious and unconscious censorship practices. When this happens the audiences the titles have been designed to support are often unaware of the works existence. Bookish is an attempt to overcome this problem for readers who have a love of reading. Value for LGBTQI identifying teens can also be found in the inclusive and diverse focus of this blog as it focuses on little known new releases and titles that are of interest to both the casual and avid reader.
Here are some examples
https://www.bookish.com/articles/the-10-lgbt-ya-books-you-need-to-read-this-year/
Tumblr media
The website provides lists and suggestions such as this the one above that highlights some of the past year’s new LGBTQI Young adult titles.
Tumblr media
It also contains articles and interviews with authors that have not been promoted in mainstream media. April Daniels recent Young Adult title release Dreadnought (Daniels, 2017) focuses on the adventures a teenage transgender superhero. The book was widely praised in the LGBTQI community but received little publicity elsewhere. Here is an interview she did for Bookish .https://www.bookish.com/articles/the-making-of-a-transgender-superhero/
For LGBTQI identifying teens that wish to engage with a literary resource that promotes LGBTQI themed young adult literature and positive language, literacy and literary practices this is a great resource.
