Chapter 16: "With Friends Like These" posted!
Summary:
He did this. He did it! Penny didn't hurt the innocent, she didn't massacre the defenseless, she didn't crash parties or peace negotiations. So... ...why didn't anyone believe her innocence?!
The worst of the blows finally arrive.
That was how the delegation on Ealen-IV came to an end.
But at least even the worst days come to an end.

Chapter 15: Dread in the Air posted!
Summary:
Despite her attempts to rationalize, her voice was dripping with worry. It only added to the edge that Rtas was dangling from. He had professed a lot of trust that Penny could take care of herself, that current events did not mean any significant danger, that no threat could prove capable... Now he wasn't so sure.
As more clues arise, feelings spoil and sour.
Suspicions and doubt. Turning on each other. Allegiances dead.
Penny gets more deja vu.

Penny Polendina (RWBY) Propaganda
Penny is a precious bean with a beautiful design, lovely freckles, badass floating swords that shoot lasers, and even gets to fly later on. The writers knew she would be too powerful to be kept alive and as a potential partner for their main character, so they killed her off, twice. If anyone deserves to win, it's this robotic cinnamon roll with a heart of gold.
——
Oooh what if you were a robot girl and had to keep the secret and didn't feel like you were a real person but the first person to find out is like "no that doesn't matter you're my friend" and it makes you feel so warm inside you believe her. Also you wind up involved in two different Nation destroying conspiracies against your will because people treat you like a tool to be used but you get to eventually reaffirm your personhood so utterly nobody could ever take that away from you. <3

——
The sweetest and most wholesome robot girl ever, who is also fully combat ready and quite capable of opening a can of whoop*** if her friends are in danger.

Chapter 14: Escalation posted!
Summary:
"What happened?! I can not COMM anyone, neither can the Spartan, and-" "Save your breath," Tul cut in; a bit curt, but likely because of the seriousness and intensity of the situation. She was already on the move towards the room's exit as she kept speaking. "We must alert the delegates. The planet is currently being overrun by hostile forces, ground and air. They were-" "Lying in wait," Vul's voice finished.
As the peace talks go on, uninvited guests make their presence known. If only threats against the delegates was all that Penny and the Intent had to worry about...

Skyrim: They Came From Beyond
Huh. Could've sworn there was a Microsoft Word file on this, but apparently not. My oldest file is a Google Doc from 2020.
This ones a Halo x Skyrim crossover and it... it's a big project. So many moving parts. So many OCs and storylines.
One of the neater parts about it is that I used to record modded Skyrim playthroughs as reference material; unfortunately due to a mixture of losing the save files and access to my editing software, I likely won't be continuing with that method.
IIRC it was partially inspired by an older, unfinished Halo x Skyrim crossover on FF.net where the Arbiter became the Dragonborn and had a romance with Lydia, while Master Chief had a subplot doing the vampire DLC? In this one, though, the Dragonborn is her own character and while the Chief still does vampire stuff, it was because I realized the blood superstition of the Sangheili would make him the only candidate.
But anyway, the premise is that 4-player Halo 3 is canon and due to canon divergence, the entirety of the Forward Unto Dawn didn't make it to Earth and instead was zapped to Skyrim. While all four of them take part in the early parts of the main story, they soon split up to cover different areas of Skyrim: Thel tagging along with the Dragonborn that he has a slowburn romance with, Usze going to the College of Winterhold (for intel-gathering and training reasons) with an OC he becomes friends with, N'tho training with the Companions alongside another OC he gets a bromance with, and the Chief & Cortana (& an ofc another OC) going to fight vampires because the rumors freak the other three out. Later on when they regroup and go to Solstheim for the DLC there, two more groups from Halo arrive in Skyrim: UNSC marines led by the still-alive Johnson and Miranda Keyes that get swept up in the Civil War and some OC Kig-yar pirates & their Huragok that join some OCs for the Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood stuff. And then after one final battle between the good guy Halos & OCs vs the bad guy ones, a chunk of them finally get brought back to the Halo universe to interrupt the Hunters in the Dark plotline, which now has Rtas and Shadow of Intent. Unfortunately this was conceptualized before I read the Ace of Spades books so Guilty Spark is still evil and idk how to replace him without breaking the story.
I won't get too into the OC content because it's even more than The Many Stories verse and I imagine not all of them would be interesting, but some highlights:
Yazuga the Small: She's an orc that is actually very sweet and stealthy. She's like Scorpa - she's on the bad guy side, but not really a bad guy. She, the modded companion Inigo, and the Huragok OC switch sides eventually.
Rinye Mithriil: Altmer, and imagine Catra mixed with Cinder Fall. She lived in Helgen and was there when the Skyrim story kicked off, and later becomes a big bad because she gets too power-hungry and into manipulation. She's the type of person to kill all three hostages during the Dark Brotherhood start. She actually gets killed by her own ally Yazuga after the orc finally realizes all the manipulation she has been put through.
Endless Seaker: The Kig-yar ship. I'm just mentioning it because Touhou Eurobeat references.
UNSC Break the Chain: The UNSC ship Miranda Keyes commands during the story. Also a Touhou Eurobeat reference.
Highlights in regards to notes and plots:
Miranda is alive. In this AU, Truth knocked her out rather than kill her, inspired by a comment who called it out of character for him to outright kill her.
Her and Johnson's survival is part of the reason the first group get thrown into Skyrim. Due to Johnson leaving with Miranda and N'tho & Usze being the back-up for the climax, Johnson's warthog isn't there and they have to sprint to the mongooses at the first checkpoint. This delays them enough that Forward Unto Dawn is taken to Skyrim in its entirety, rather than the top half making it back to Earth.
I haven't written as many notes as to what's happening with the galaxy with Thel not having returned from the Ark (which is honestly a neat thought experiment outside of the context of Skyrim crossover fanfiction ngl), but I imagine the human-Sangheili alliance isn't as tight as it would've been and Rtas has become more of a leader for the Sangheili beyond Shadow of Intent. Oh, I did find something saying "the Swords of Sanghelios doesn't exist".
The title of the bad guys POV story is "They Came to Do Crimes".
There's a prophecy that 13 Halo canon & OC characters are gonna defeat three evils, but nobody knows who the 13 champions are and there are certainly more than 13 of them operating in Skyrim, both good and evil. One of the twists is that the Gravemind is simultaneously one of the three evils and the 13th champion. Another twist is that the prophecy didn't necessarily call for them to work together, and the first two evils are defeated just because their actions independent of each other resulted in it.
I honestly had less notes than I thought?? I thought certain things were more fleshed out than they were?? Worried that some of it is stuck in modded Skyrim footage and not actually written down.
Decided to scan through what I already wrote and while it definitely needs to be rewritten, especially because of a better understanding of characterization, there are some gems:
Thel at the end of Halo 3, which could honestly work outside of this fic:
It’s finished. Just forming those words in his head lifted a thousand weights off his shoulders. Halo was finished. The Covenant was finished. The Flood was finished. Every major plague to the galaxy had been ended in just one day. Because of them. One Spartan, a human army, and a make-do fleet of rebels. Thel closed his eyes and let out a deep sigh. He wasn’t home yet, sure, but he was confident in their streak of recent luck. He would give himself the sleep he had denied his body and mind for far too long. And when he’d open his eyes again… We will be home.
Thel after meeting a dragon:
When he finally felt safe, Thel breathed a sigh of relief. Humans, Covenant, Flood...now foreign affairs and ungodly beasts. What god out there have I offended so greatly?
Yori the future Dragonborn:
However, these strangers...just thinking back to how they reacted to Frostbite spiders and magic, she knew they were well underprepared for anything else Tamriel could throw at them. They were excellent fighters, she’d give them that. But without knowing what to expect, they’d be vulnerable. Not to mention the reactions they got out of people before. They might just be fired at on sight if they approached civilization. Guess I’m going to have to play babysitter, huh? Yori thought to herself. Well...travel companions are always useful...
Thel thinks of home:
“Let’s try to not cross paths with Stormcloaks, either.” Cortana added to the warning. “Now’s not a good time to get wrapped up in politics - least of all in unknown territory.” I am already dreading returning home to a political nightmare. Thel agreed silently, and he assumed the other three did as well.
a scene about an in-game book, feat Thel being unamused and justification for future punching actions:
"I noticed this and thought it would be useful," he explained. A Gentleman's Guide to Whiterun was the title. "Well, this method is embarrassing but...it's what we'll have to work with," Cortana said in his ear. "Can one of you flip through the pages for me while I scan the words? I'll be fast, so you don't really have to read it yourself." Opening the book, Thel skimmed the opening paragraph in his head. "Welcome, good sir, to this indispensable guide. Within these pages, I, your humble author and guide, will describe to you the great city of Whiterun, the Jewel of the North." The way the sentences were crafted gave Thel a bad feeling about the attitude of this writer; but as he did not know how long Yori and Chief would take at the shop, it seemed like he had some time to kill, so... "Oh god...this 'guide'...it hurts to read this. Nobody else wrote a better guide than this guy?" When he reached the end of the fourth page - "Saadia, the barmaid, is an exotic Redguard beauty. She is quite mysterious, and your humble author is determined it learn her secrets." - Thel realized what Cortana was talking about. He really did not need to know this much about the city. The next two pages had the worst distraction yet: "Outside the Bannered Mare is a modest marketplace, and here is where I found true love. Thought I would never deter a fellow hunting hound from the chase - for indeed, why should I author these tomes, if not to provide guidance in this very matter? - I must ask that you do me this one kindness. Her name is Carlotta Valentia, and she is a magnificent beauty who makes a modest living selling bread and produce in the daylight hours. By the gods, I will make that feisty beauty mine someday!" Thel closed the guide, admittedly having learned a good deal about the city after the author stopped rambling about "his love", but still wishing he had rather stumbled around Whiterun having to learn all of this himself instead of finding this book. How long ago was this penned? Could the people mentioned, as well as the author, still be alive and residing in Whiterun? If he ever heard the name "Carlotta Valentina", he might just cringe and be unable to look her in the eye because of this... "Boys. Do me a favor, since I'm stuck inside a data crystal." There was a beat. "If you ever find who wrote this guide - punch them for me." The other two Sangheili in the room - having not yet had the Gentleman's Guide grace them - looked at the air in confusion. He could only imagine what Chief looked like in the shop, having Cortana suddenly say that to him.
the gag returns:
It was then that Thel realized he had forgotten to put the book in his bag, as Yori noticed it and asked to see it. "I would...skip the first few pages." Yori looked at him oddly as the book passed hands, but shrugged as she put it into one of her packs.
All in all... pretty self-indulgent, but something I hope to eventually finally get back to. Honestly yapping about it almost made me tempted... but I got other projects as 2025 New Years resolutions to get through first, and this will require extensive recovery work to make it viable again (lots more pre-planning than I originally did, scrounging up sources, potentially deep-diving into the recorded files, and rewriting everything so far, maybe even AO3 work skin lessons to fix some of the formatting presentation_.

Tell me about The Many Stories, I'm curious!
Oh god, this one is part of an era I forgot about... the Reminders app era. ~2021, potentially older than that since I think I would bump up the "dates" on reminders. 2021 I made a Google doc file but it was just porting the notes and adding to them. I started writing for it on 4theworlds... who knows when, the dates are missing. I didn't get very far before putting it on hold since it's hard for me to do poetry and also the romance novel style one chapter called for; been taking note of poetry lesson videos and a catalogue of Jane Austen movies. But I definitely will do it one day, if not because I've grown fond of the OCs born from this.
It first started as just a Ripa 'Moramee thing, but then I came up with a Jul 'Mdama sequel. But basically it's an anthology of short stories written by OC Sangheili authors, the first one being hypothetical origin stories of Ripa 'Moramee and the second one being debate on a preferable ending to Jul 'Mdama than the reality. The format they have (the in-universe texts broken apart by an overarching narrative of the authors' discussion) is influenced by Touhou Project's Symposium of Post-mysticism (off-topic, but imagine if Halo did lore books like Touhou). There's also one other thing, not yet on 4theworlds, that's technically part of the series, but only because of the in-universe author OC, and that story idea is "what if Sangheili had their own version of Bram Stoker's Dracula".
OCs of note so far: (all the "Ripa origin story" authors; the ideas for the "Jul's 'ending' story" will likely require a cast change)
Mari 'Anton: Yes, her name is inspired by Marie Antoinette, I forgot why. She's the resident romance writer of the friend group; and while her work and passion suggests she is a hopeless romantic, and her lack of lovers causing rumors of high standards and diva-ness, she's actually what humans would call aroace. She's fascinated by non-platonic relationships as a study and romance fiction as an artform, yet she has no interest in partaking in it herself and it probably causes some inner turmoil since I imagine Sangheili don't have a proper term & concept for such a thing. Since recent Halo lore since her creation has given us the term "studymaster", I think she would semi-unironically call herself as "studymaster of love". Also looking at my notes... I think I accidentally made her personality "undiagnosed autism"?? She's subdued around most people, only growing passionate and energetic around those she trusts.
Fuyo 'Naham: An infertile woman who copes with it by helping with others' child-rearing, and later writing wholesome children's stories when her cross-species interactions lead her to discovering the genre (headcanoning that Sangheili aren't as "soft" in raising their children, their bedtime stories probably are more like ye olden folktale of the "there's an old lady in the worlds that will eat you if you misbehave" variety). She has since discovered the concept of adoption but so far has felt too much anxiety to do it. Within the friend group, while she doesn't start as much chaos, she is a frequent enabler of it. If Teka is "thinks something is stupid, tells the person to not do it", then she's "thinks something is stupid, insists the person should do it".
Teka 'Suham: His official role in the story is acting as mediator and transcriber. His unofficial role is to go "wtf are you talking about Jessie" to everyone's ideas and deliver the "but what if 'Moramee was just Like That for no reason" punchline in the first story. He's the least popular author in the group, specializing in technical writing and his biggest accolade being his name showing up in some textbook credits. But behind-the-scenes he's a dear friend to all these famous writers and frequent beta-reader and editor for them.
Thoda 'Masumai: A blademaster that started dabbling in poetry, becoming famous for both; the older he gets, the more he focuses on poetry over the sword, to the point it's hard to believe he used to be a master swordsman. The oldest of the friend group, vibes being very positive, optimistic, and "romantic thinking" (as in "romanticizing", not romance itself). No matter what shit gets thrown his way during heated discussions, he can never get put into a bad mood. Which is good, because basically almost all his friends and colleagues are insane /jk.
Keza 'Kasaj: The sci-fi author; likes science to the point he started using fiction as an excuse to showcase his theories. His energy with his writing is like if "Touch-tone Telephone" by Lemon Demon was little more hinged and about real science over conspiracy theories; I definitely feel him in the lyrics "I'm an expert, just like you!" because he has a tendency to seek out and badger scientists of all species with his questions about their research in his quest to have a grand overall "theory of everything", and then trying to get others to hear his out through disguising it as fun stories. And due to Sangheili being behind in scientific study, he has had extensive cross-species socialization.
Cazo 'Mulcal: He's the resident horror author, also in-universe writes the Sangheili Dracula story. He's not taken as seriously due to the culture being tough on "being afraid" and lowkey a subconscious need to discredit him as a coping mechanism towards fear. Like, "ha, how silly, to even think about little bugs that invade the body and slowly remake everything of your insides until you aren't yourself anymore and the slow descent into madness during the process... ha, t-that's silly, how would even be a-afraid of such a ridiculous concept". Personality-wise he's the least developed, but I imagine he has quite the imagination and his own hot takes on the nature of fear.
Relatively recently (and by that I mean during the process of making this, since making this caused me to think about the project and that's a slippery slope into developing new ideas and reviewing directions) I got the idea that there's a human OC translating the text to English. And now I've got the idea that the Sangheili authors have their own Thoughtsᵀᴹ about that human's translations and the art of translation itself (ranging from insulted to intrigued). But that's still too new and unexplored.

WIP Ask Game
got tagged by @holyshonks
Rules: Make a new post with the names of all the files in your wip folder, regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous. Tag as many people as you have wips. people send you an ask with the title that most intrigues them, then post a little snippet or tell them something about it!
here's the problem... I got a crapton, scattered across a few different programs. So to make this a little easier, I'll only be doing files that are on my 4thewords. Biggest titles are project names, bullet points under them are notable files (if they are series, challenges, or dumping grounds). Bonus self-shaming: when you send an ask, I'll share how long ago I first started the WIP (some are these are from my Microsoft Word era, barely lived but I'm not pulling the plug on them yet).
seeing how many titles there ended up being, and how few people interact with me, you can do multiple in an ask / send multiple asks.
Puppet of Intent (Halo x RWBY crossover)
Eternity With You, And You (Fairy Tail rarepair AU)
"The Many Stories" Verse (Halo fic)
The Many Origin Stories of Ripa 'Moramee
The Many Endings of Jul 'Mdama

The Text/Group Chat AU (Halo fic)

Popular Ship Dynamics the series (multifandom)

Random Fanfic Collection (multifandom)
king of the monsters, god of the humans (MonsterVerse oneshot)

dovakiin but tinier (Skyrim AU)
TWST x Touhou: Guardians of Underworlds (TWST x Touhou crossover)
25j get a pet demon (ProSeka x Ghost Stories crossover)
OKAY now that that's done... there is no way I'm following that "tag someone for every file" rule. I don't even KNOW that many writers on tumblr, much less anyone I am both comfortable w tagging + I know hasn't done this before.
but I will tag @bloodgulchblog. as long as Tumblr search has not betrayed me, I didn't see this ask game there yet.
a few of these fics (Puppet of Intent, Eternity With You, And You, The Strange Case of the Arbiter, and Unholy Trinity) already have stuff posted on my AO3

Chapter 13: "Road to Peace (Talks)" posted!
Summary:
On the heels of their alliance with humanity being tested, the prospect of a new alliance emerges.
"In two days, the Arbiter will be appearing at Ealen-IV in peace talks arranged and mediated by the UNSC," Rtas regaled. "The other main party is Chieftain Lydus, leader of the Children of Oth Sonin. The UNSC has identified him as a prominent leader amongst the Jiralhanae, and certainly more willing than most other chieftains to speak with the Arbiter. Nonetheless, the Arbiter has requested the Intent to escort him, and all those present specifically to be his bodyguards on the ground."

Chapter 12: "In Sqala" posted!
Summary:
Could there ever be combat without guilt and philosophical questioning? Why… did she think that there could be? Why had she been made capable of such incredible violence, yet in-depth empathy for other living beings?
As Penny tries to salvage at least one of their goals, she reflects. Clarity on how to feel might be the only satisfaction she can get out of this.

Chapter 11: "Knight Denied Bishop" posted!
Summary:
"Amongst SPARTAN-IIIs that are particularly relevant are the LONEWOLF Headhunters, which would match this one's potential role as an assassin of a high priority target in a precarious battlefield. The fact I can barely find any personal identifying detail suggests the Spartan is a covert agent for ONI, dealing in secret missions."
With another assassin entering the fray, Penny juggles the choices of life and death on a chaotic battlefield. And the one she settles on…

Chapter 10: "Abiding Truth and Shrouded Lies" posted!
Summary:
"Of course, the Arbiter would love to discuss with 'Telcam rumors of ONI dealings with him," Rtas replied, perhaps a bit too candidly. "If only the foolish bastard would see reason to talk than to fight. Alas-" "Then why not just ask?" Penny's urge to jump on a curiosity overrode her recent progress in letting a superior finish his words. But maybe, for one time at least, it was for the best. Blinking, she realized what she'd just done, yet decided to fully get her thoughts out while she still could. "There is not a time limit on when he has to die. We can ask questions first. Maybe it still won't work, but is it not better to try before it's too late?
Penny is requested for a specific mission proposed by ONI, but doubt in their intentions leads to a secret objective of Intent's own.

An audience. Her blades in formation behind her. A skilled warrior ahead of her, armored and armed. Tension in her body as she anticipated something coming at her - too fast to dodge and promising pain once it struck. Penny had been here before.
The spar ends.
She stood in an arena - a crowd of hundreds were seated and cheering in the circling stands next to and towering the border between audience and combat ring. Ahead of her was a girl her age, her striking red hair pulled back in a long ponytail. Unlike some of their peers, she went ahead and wore armor, albeit only on her legs and arms.
And the nightmare begins.

"Don't worry about hitting me too hard." Rtas cleared his throat to regain their attention. "Warriors, take ten paces from each other." And after they did… "Your battle begins… Now!"
Rtas, now accepting a new warrior in his ranks, has Penny display as much of her full capabilities as possible in a place where collateral damage would be better accepted. And what a show she puts on.
