hi everyone ! the world is scary and chaotic right now, and as a black student i’m torn between feeling afraid and feeling like i could be doing more. that’s why i decided to team up with a few friends and create Students for Black Lives. sfbl is a completely student run, not for profit project where students — mainly matriculating college freshman — from top schools will help other students reach their goals through essay, standardized testing, and extracurricular advising, and resume advising in with one ten dollar donation to a blm organization.
the goal of this project is to raise as much money as we can for blm organizations. as high aiming students who met our goals, we want to use whatever power we have to help the heartbreaking, incensing state of our world right now. my friends and i from stanford, harvard, upenn, princeton, columbia, cornell, berkeley, caltech, and many more schools want to do more than we’ve already done. i want to help my community in any way i can.
if you’re interested in our services, please follow our instagram and look at this document with more information. if you’re a student who wants to help but can’t donate or doesn’t need college help, sharing our platform is essential to maximizing our effect.

The first pride was a riot, more specifically a riot against police violence. Trans women of colour like Marsha P. Johnson paved the way for the celebration of pride today. You cannot celebrate your pride this month, or any month if you aren’t also supporting Black Lives Matter and the riots going on against police violence right now. Us white LGBTQ+ need to stand up for our black siblings and their rights, their struggles. We need to amplify their voices and show any support we can.Hey! Better yet, reblog this version:
Extensive BLM Google doc including places to donate to, education resources, etc
List of 75 things white people can do right now
Simple way to donate to the cause if you have no money to

How to focus when you don’t want to:
Write down only three tasks that you want to get done (in order of priority). Then, cover the bottom two and only focus on the first one.
Use a timer and set it for a reasonable amount of time (I try to start with 20-25 mins). During this time, don’t pick up the phone, don’t go on social media, etc.
Keep a piece of paper next to you and write down any distracting thoughts you want to look at later. Usually I’ll google a topic if I don’t understand it, but since I’m trying to not lose my focus I just make a “Google later” list. You could also use this to keep track of off topic thoughts you have.

That bilingual feeling when someone asks you point-blank to translate a word you’ve heard about a thousand times and you suddenly forget every possible equivalent to said word (and also lose the ability to produce any coherent utterance as a whole)

I knead some of this in my life. Just add butter for melted magma effect. Just don't overdo it, or else you may be left with some very messy lava.

i absolutely hate articles about productivity and success that push the idea that it’s impossible to live a “good” life whilst being average. i doubt that following this kind of advice can ever lead to genuine happiness; but even if it does, it can only ever do so for a very small proportion of the population, and that comes with worrying political implications.
you don’t have to be exceptional. you just have to invest time and energy in the what you care about, whether that’s a person or a hobby or a political cause. please don’t try to turn yourself into a brand or a product or a machine. it’s okay to just be a person.

“People who didn’t live pre-Internet can’t grasp how devoid of ideas life in my hometown was. The only bookstores sold Bibles the size of coffee tables and dashboard Virgin Marys that glowed in the dark. I stopped in the middle of the SAT to memorize a poem, because I thought, This is a great work of art and I’ll never see it again.”

an important day. Nazi Germany may have been defeated but there are still more than enough nazis in 2020 which should worry us.

VE Day 75 years on
In Paris, huge numbers of people flocked to the centre of the city to celebrate.
On the Champs Elysees they were singing ‘It’s a Long Way to Tipperary,’. In the Place de la Concorde to the Arc de Triomphe in the Place de l'Etoile, there was hardly any place to breathe and no place at all to move.
