Mechanical Faces of Beauty - Hohzo

Bot-11: Home

Home is the hardest one to design because while home is described by everyone as a place, personal experience has shown that home is more of the friends and family made throughout life. Instead of creating a robot that was a house, the design was inspired more by a young kid, who acts more like a young friend/sibling. With them, any place can feel like home, whether it is a house, restaurant, or even a gathering place. They are meant to give a person that sense of comfort and nostalgia as they portray themself as young and childish, while still giving enough care to those they call friends or family. Along with the comfort of the home that they share, they also come with a keyboard on their chest that can be used as a computer, for whatever use the other person needs, for either fun or needing to get something done without worry.

Bot-12: Connected

While it is difficult to showcase a robot being connected to all things, the best way to showcase the meaning would be to combine both the calculations of machinery and the lustfulness of nature. By the harmony of both past and future, this robot can survive far longer than it was intended to. The overgrown plant life is also able to ride onto the robot and grow, becoming a small environment to survive the mechanical world. The large machine has come to terms with needing nature on its back to survive, so it uses the natural resources nature has made to repair itself to good condition, being careful with its movement so they don’t disturb or destroy natural life. Without each other, neither can survive, so they must work together in harmony to keep each other living long and prosper in their new life.

Mechanical Faces of Beauty - Wabi-Sabi

Bot-09: Weathered

Wabi-Sabi is focused on the beauty of the old and the imperfections of an object, so the robot representing the beauty is an older model with a lot of history in its past. Rather than the perfect structural design of the previous robots that represent ‘To Kalon’, this robot is asymmetrical, rusting, and worn down throughout the years, even having old materials built into it. Despite their look, they can be seen through this name of beauty with how much experience they have gone through to get to this moment, especially those who have personal connections to this bot adding to the beauty of such an old machine. The term Wabi-Sabi furthers the idea of a weathering and tarnishing object becoming more beautiful as time goes on, and while this robot still functions, its passage of time allows it to shine as bright as many other machines.

Bot-10: Pottery

Pottery is one of the amazing aspects of art that can be seen as beauty, whether the work is perfect or not. With Wabi-Sabi, pottery is perceived as beauty by the hands of the maker, all the imperfections and care being used when creating such an object. Rather than having a machine that can perfectly replicate work, this robot has been given a set of arms and an upper humanoid body to be able to go creative with its work. They are not meant to create perfect pristine work but are allowed to do their best to create works of pottery that can have slight mistakes on them. It helps bring a sense of creativity to each work, giving a sense of specialness to each work rather than keeping everything in one design that never changes. Imperfections are expected to happen, but rather than reject them, it would be time for this robot to embrace them.

Bot-07: Knowledge

This robot is heavily into knowledge, learning as much as it can to create logic and reasonings that can be used to solve any problem. Their design is also meant to represent the simplicity of Kalos, being simple work that does not use anything that would be considered unnecessary towards its desire of learning. Within their learning, they would be able to use simple knowledge and combine it to solve complex problems, getting them closer to their desire to learn everything and converting that into something much simpler. Their drive for simplicity can also be answered by rational logic or mathematical equations, adding much more to their connection towards Kalos. To make sure their quest for knowledge never ends, they have stored as much information as possible, in hopes of a world where everything can be explained.

Bot-08: Architecture

While not as closely connected to the Greek culture, this large machine still has its connection to Kalos. Where the previous robot was focused on the desire to learn knowledge, this robot is based upon the simplicity of buildings and structures, thanks to the rational planning of how this robot should be built. Keeping to a simplistic idealization, the robot was built with treads rather than legs, in hopes that it would keep the interior of the buildings safe during its traversal. Keeping to a strong sturdy yet simple design, the interior of the machine is built to be lived on, making sure anyone can live inside and not be disturbed, while still getting enough light through the outside while the robot continues its tasks, if it needs to move. If it does not require anything to do, it remains stationary for others to enter and leave.

Bot-05: Religion

Religion is a major aspect of our lives, being a way of life for people who want to do good in the world while worshipping one or many Gods. This robot is meant to represent a worshipper whose life is devoted to their religion, specifically the origin of this type of beauty, Hinduism. With holiness being the main aspect of this beauty, this robot has reformed its body to have a similar aspect to the Gods, using multiple heads and arms compared to most robots here. This aspect of repetition with the different heads and arms also connects to the beauty of Sundara, as the repetition of something is one of the categories that is considered beautiful. While other religions could have been using it, how connected Sundara is to Hinduism helps bring this robot closer to this name of beauty.

Bot-06: Reggae

Music is an integral part of our lives, and one type of music that is closely connected to Sundara is Reggae Music. With heavy influences from the culture and finding one of the instruments used for songs, this robot has been fully designed to embrace said music and culture. What also makes them fit Sundara is their music, having a repetitive structure to not only have a catchy rhythm for people to enjoy but also help bring down any statement that they are either discussing or bringing up. Their love of music allows them to continuously sing and play as long as they want, making music their spiritual beauty, like how we have our routines and rhythms to continuously go with our lives. There is a spark within this robot that lets them express themselves to the whole world, which is heard by the beauty of the music that they sing.

Bot-03: Flowers

While hard to find in a robotic world, flowers are one of the biggest aspects of beauty when focused on the term Yapha. How each flower, specifically the roses, blooms and stands out from the lush nature helps bring a special type of beauty that focuses on things that stand out. This bot is designed to help stand out from the rest, resembling a flower itself as they made it their directive to plant and grow as many beautiful flowers as possible, hoping to return this form of beauty that our society has back into their own. This not only helps the flowers glow with their bright petals but also helps them glow more as they are more focused on the aspect of mother nature, rather than focusing on the mechanical world that the rest of the robots follow.

Bot-04: Fireworks

Who doesn’t love a good fireworks show? This bot is specifically designed to not only share and spread the joy of fireworks but also ignite them so they can rise to the starry sky and bring out a glowing explosion, their pretty patterns glowing for everyone to enjoy as they sit back and relax. While their fireworks are the important aspect of the glow and bloom that Yapha describes, the robot itself is also capable of sharing the same glow as their supplies. With their rocket feet, they are capable of soaring high to the skies and shining greatly among the population, not only helping with traversal and making them easy to spot but also allowing them to bloom with an explosion alongside their fireworks, creating a grand finale show. Don’t worry, they are built to survive explosions, so they’ll be fine in the long run.

Bot-01: Loss

This design is inspired by the conceptual idea of putting flowers onto a grave. Despite their darker color schemes, the flowers that are held by them help bring beauty into the scene. Having the flowers be one of the brighter colored designs helps bring them into focus, as without them, beauty cannot prosper in a gloomy moment in everyone’s life. The purpose of showcasing this form of beauty is to bring forth a sense of comfort and desire to live that gives hope to people who are at their lowest, seeing the loss of life. The other aspect of the bot is its humanoid shape, as following this design rather than abstract helps portray the feelings of loss that we share as a species, which would be harder to find if their look wasn’t as humanoid as they look currently.

Bot-02: Desire

If there is one thing people desire, it is to look beautiful in front of others. How exactly they look gorgeous is based upon how our society, especially based on physical attractiveness, can keep a person staring for hours. This design intends to capture that sense of beauty, having a feminine shape with barely any imperfections to be spotted. While their beauty is based on the opinion and desire of others, their helpers are always by their side, either reflecting their beauty or sharing it with cameras or gossiping. With their looks and ongoing supporters, they help bring out the desires of others by wanting to look like or younger like how they are showcased around to everyone. With their sleek metal body and young design, they are sure to stay in the spotlight, until the power of time comes to show how long they stay in terms of beauty.

The whackiest villain you’ll ever find around town, Kanga-Bruise and Robo-Roo. With their suit, they’re able to punch and kick their way to whatever they want. The only question is who’s in the suit? Is it a person… or a kangaroo?
