The most frustrating experience as a writer is having a clear vision in your mind of the story you want to tell but being too afraid to put pen to paper for fear of failing to do the story justice. I’m so scared that my actual execution will fail to meet my expectations that I’m paralysed to even start.

Had a dream with Abby in it last night, it was her design from before I got art commissioned tho which was weird cuz I can barely imagine it when conscious
HERE SHE IS!!! My daughter!!! My favourite child! (Yes I'm biased fuck you) She's so cool and epic and strong!
This final design is done by @an-overgrown-greenhouse and is absolutely incredible!!!
The design process took... A while. Cuz it was my first time really doing it and I wanted to try a lot of different things but Cricket was really amazing and way more patient than xe probably should've been.
Her powers are based on electricity, and because of that she constantly has electricity flowing through her body, which is why her hair looks like a storm cloud (so much static keeping it like that, it's a nightmare to try and tie up).
She also has a lichtenberg scar on her back from the event that gave her powers. These normally fade away after a few days but again, she's always got a strong electric current flowing through her so it stays there and it hurts.
Her eyes are glowing yellow because in my world powers tend to manifest aesthetically through someone's eyes (cuz it looks cool and I want it to)
Her outfit was the most difficult thing to pin down because Abby is very loving and passionate and cares very deeply about her friends, but she also definitely gets really fucking angry and pissed off and would explode a cop car to let off stress, and I wasn't sure which side of her to portray in her outfit.
We ended up going for the brighter side because I think that's how she'd like to be perceived by most people, and definitely by her team. She has big boots with purple shoelaces because purple shoelace means gay in shoelace code. She still has an ACAB patch on her jacket because loving people means hating cops.
Their first design was almost perfect immediately but I wanted to try and see what my original design would look like (there's a bit of a story behind why we started with his design before mine but dw about it)
So he sketched up a rough draft of my original design for Abby and we both agreed immediately that it just did not fit her.
Then I tried to see if we could maybe do a fusion of the two and do something closer to her first outfit but with a darker colour palette and it also just felt a little too aggressive (though it would definitely suit her in certain situations)
And when I realised that the original draft was working far better than the others I just wanted to see if it'd look better with sleeves or not so xe did a rough sketch with sleeves and I realised that they are genuinely psychic and know my own character better than I do.
Thank you so much again Cricket @an-overgrown-greenhouse. This is all their work and it's so perfect and fucking AMAZING!!!!

Ah, I think Abby might need more Ls cuz everyone else has like 12
This is a friendly reminder to give your OC a firm and unmistakable L every now and then.
This is a necessary action to keep your OC healthy for the long term.

Actually writing is so wierd, like what? I have this whole ass plan about what’s going to happen. But then I sit down to write and the story wrote itself something totally different. And idk how to explain it but the story wrote itself better than I did.
Is this a naturally occuring phenomenon??

I tried to draw Abby myself using the commissioned art as a reference.

I have drawn maybe 50 things since I was birthed and I do not know how to colour well so I think it turned out really good all things considered.

Saving this for later.
No reason in particular:)
Sad Last Words
"Tell them I loved them more than all the stars in the sky."
"Promise me you'll keep laughing, even when it hurts."
"I wish we had more time—so much more."
"Don't let my end stop you from beginning."
"Remember, not all who wander are lost, but I guess I was."
"I hope you find the happiness that eluded me."
"Forgive me, for I have loved too deeply to live lightly."
"Keep our memories alive, they were the best part of me."
"It's so dark now, but I used to be afraid of the dark."
"I'm not scared, just sad to be leaving you."
"I'd do it all over again, just for one more day with you."
"Don't cry for me; I'll be waiting in the quiet places and soft moments."
"Say my name sometimes, it'll sound like music."
"I'm letting go now; please hold on."
"I wish my words could have told you all the love I felt."

Abby is my favourite child and it's probably gonna come through a lot in my writing
Having your own OC as your Blorbo is great because you will never have to see a bad Fannon brainrot take or awful but inexplicably popular ship involving them, but also I Have To Do Everything Myself Around Here Augh

I've had this little idea in my head for a while now, so I decided to sit down and plot it out.
Disclaimer: This isn't meant to be some sort of One-Worksheet-Fits-All situation. This is meant to be a visual representation of some type of story planning you could be doing in order to develop a plot!
Lay down groundwork! (Backstory integral to the beginning of your story.) Build hinges. (Events that hinge on other events and fall down like dominoes) Suspend structures. (Withhold just enough information to make the reader curious, and keep them guessing.)
And hey, is this helps... maybe sit down and write a story! :)

So many cool ideas! I think my favourites are Unbrittle and The Garrisons.
I like stories that focus on communities and I like thinking about how relatively weak superpowers can impact someone's life.
I also like when things show a longer progression of time in a world, things that focus on multiple generations of characters that are all closely linked is really cool to me, especially when they show how the world changes because of previous generations or when history repeats itself through generations of heroes and villains but at the same time a lot of things change.
Very cool ideas definitely
Also tell us about more of your superhero OCs I want to know. I neeeed to know. Now. Not a request.
I've literally got wayyy too many lmaoo so I think I'll just tell you about each universe? Is that okay?
- UNBRITTLE: Gerry, an older woman with children all grown up, is slowly losing the strength in her bones. She's developing brittle bones and, as an athletic person, is devastated. But in this Earth, people can develop powers based on a characteristic of theirs. Whether the power helps or curses them is not in their control. Soon, Gerry finds out her bones are becoming unbreakable, gaining strength, and decides to help out her neighbourhood.
This one is filled with characters, all of which I adore. Currently my favourites are the young man who loved attention so much he became invisible, and the young blind man he befriends.
- OMNIS (not actual title, will think of something soon, I hope): In this version of Earth, the powers people are born with are closer to the capabilities of gods. Daffie, sarcastic teenager, was born with the capability known as Self Aware. She knows she's in a TV show and constantly breaks the fourth wall. She tries to live her life, making snarky comments along the way, but with sidekicks and enemies, and every person she meets falling head over heels for her deaf and dorky father, it will certainly be difficult.
This one is more comedy and coming of age. Daffie watches a lot television, so she is unimpressed with the directions the writers (me, but not really) are taking, which only makes the writers angry. So they make up more absurd storylines with each episode, like a cult of fangirls who kidnap her father, to an entire episode stuck in a dream so she can admit she actually likes the weird journalist in her class who wants to be her superhero manager.
- THE LOYAL DOGMAN: Already talked about this one and there's not much to add, so yeah?
- THE GARRISONS: Different superhero teams through the decades, all working under the same name, starting in 1999 and continuing through the years.
This one is pretty serious and I'm not sure what else to say about it? Each Garrison will have different members with different abilities, though some members will stay for more than one Garrison.
- MR. MACHETE: A young teenager who's just lost his mother is chosen by his art teacher to protect the city from the teacher's old best friend turned villain. How? The teacher herself has the power to give others superpowers, so she replaces his arms with machetes and makes it so a machete grows out his head.
Kinda silly tbh, but I like this idea! It's kinda like Chainsaw Man, but, unlike Denji, Mr. Machete can't get his arms back. It will have fight scenes, but it will also deal with the grief of losing his mother and having to change his life completely, since he doesn't have arms or hands anymore and can't do basic tasks without cutting himself or others.
- WORMTAIL: The least developed tbh, about a university student who grows a large talking worm as a tail and uses it to fight. That's all I know so far.
I think that's all of them? As you can see, quite a few lmao, but I like them!! What's your favourite??

I love learning about different cultures to improve my characters. I love when I have an idea of a character built up in my head and then I learn something about their culture that adds so much more depth to who they are. I love when I'm struggling to make a character have depth and then I learn something about them and everything clicks at once and I feel like I know them on a personal level.
If you're writing a character from a culture you don't know much about, or even one you think you know a lot about, do research on that culture cuz there's so many small things in every kind of culture and sub-culture that can add so much depth to your characters

I'm actually getting really excited about this idea cuz volume 3 was originally gonna be like, chill downtime and team building, but I've realised my own protagonist doesn't have much going on so that takes priority cuz if I don't fix that they're gonna have fuck all to add to the story that is named after them.
I've realised that my main character, Wildcard, Charlie Dender, is actually really boring and unmotivated compared to my other two characters.
To solve this, instead of rewriting or scrapping things, I'm going to make them experience an identity crisis in the next volume (after the one I'm currently writing) and have the story completely focus on that.
