Featured Fic #4: Fire, Bridges, and other Sensible Idioms
Tumblr media
Today's featured fic is "Fire, Bridges, and other Sensible Idioms" by KiaraMGrey
----------------------- Read on ao3 ---------------------
Aziraphale made his way down the steps to the first floor of his building. He hummed a little tune as he went, considering what he might have for dinner that night. Perhaps he would order in some Indian food. It was awfully cold outside and he could really use a bit of warming up. But first, laundry. Though he didn’t have a washer and dryer in his own flat, he was grateful that his building at least had one for community use. He carried his basket and hummed quietly to himself. His clothes should be nearly done by now, and if not, he could always wait a few minutes in the washroom. He walked into the laundry room and stopped, a frown flicking across his face.
The washer was indeed still running, but he didn’t understand what he was seeing. A large mass of soaking wet clothes were piled up on the table beside the washing machine. He stepped towards them and gasped. Those were his clothes!

We encourage readers to engage with the fic as well. Comments are always appreciated, and we hope to foster a greater sense of interaction in the community.
Here are some ideas if you don't know where to begin:
What was your favorite moment? Was there a character, scene, or line that made you laugh? Smile? Cry? Did you connect with the author's style? Love the dialogue? The action?
Short comments are okay too! It's totally fine to just say that you liked the fic, to leave a keysmash of emotion, or even an emoji. Comments are always appreciated!

Featured Fic #3: My Favorite Ghost
Tumblr media
Today's featured fic is "My Favorite Ghost" by @cassieoh and @diminished-fish
--------------------- Read on ao3 ----------------------
Heaven was dim. Not dark. Not dead or even dying, simply… different. Shadowy.
The sudden presence of shadows in a realm of pure light probably should have frightened him, but all he felt was bewildered. It was so strange. So absolutely mystifying. Shadows piled in the corners like soft blue gossamer, draped themselves across the corridors in shifting grey veils, cloaked entire chambers in hazy fog. It lent a quality to the atmosphere that was simultaneously cavernous and diminished — the subtle, impossible architecture of the place suddenly impossible to ignore.
He wished it frightened him. Fear was a far simpler state of mind than bewilderment. Fear inspired action, provided a goal and a direction. A purpose. Having none of these things, he wandered.

Featured Fic #2: Might As Well Do It Properly
Tumblr media
Today's featured fic is "Might As Well Do It Properly" by @suspiciouscharacter1895
---------------------- Read on ao3 -----------------------
Aziraphale is a perfectionist. This sometimes means that, because he doesn’t want to do a thing until he can do it perfectly, some things never get done at all. He has been meaning, for example, to organize and shelve all the books piled haphazardly in his bedroom, or in the back room, or in the kitchenette, or on the stairs. But to do that he would have to be in just the right mood. He would need to have just the right beverage at just the right temperature. He must have the right music at the right volume during the right kind of weather. Otherwise, he wouldn’t be able to do the job properly, and so why bother to do it at all?
The more important the task, perversely, the more difficult it is to start because it is doubly necessary to do an important task perfectly. So some things, things that Aziraphale desperately wants to do, remain undone for years because he doesn’t believe he could do them just right. This situation was exacerbated by the fact that Aziraphale would live, provided he didn’t do anything silly, forever. When you have forever to do something, and that thing is important enough to require flawless execution, it is very easy indeed never to do it at all.
This goes some way to explaining why Aziraphale had never kissed Crowley.

Welcome!
Hi everyone! Welcome to Project Lighthouse. We are here to bring you fic recommendations with the express purpose of encouraging readers to engage with fics and their authors. We believe there are so many great fics out there that don't always make it to a rec list, and we know that reader engagement can be so impactful on enjoyment and participation in fandom.
We have two goals: 1) To introduce people to fics they may not have heard of / that don't get recommended as often 2) To encourage readers to engage with said fics through comments Our recommendation google form is here if you have fics you'd like to see us highlight (self-recs welcome!) Feel free to follow along on tumblr (@projectlighthousefics) or twitter (@/ProjLithse24) or bluesky (@/projectlighthouse), where we'll be posting several times a week. Thanks for being here!
