Finally started making ocs again and it truly is the most evil thing ever that if I want more content of the little guys in my head, then I have to make it myself.

What do you mean that if I want to see them do stuff and interact then I gotta pick up a pen and draw it myself.

I've been far too spoiled with big fandoms that have thousands of fan artists. Now it's just me and like 2 other friends building this shit from the ground up.

But hey, at least I finally get to practice writing some more. And who knows, maybe this will be what finally gives me the motivation to actually learn to draw

Fanfic is a free hobby.

It's one of the last few things we can have as a society that's free. You can engage, for free. People give you things (art, stories, etc), for free.

Don't buy into the consummerism just because it's everywhere else.

You don't have to consume everything you interact with. You don't have to use things, just because they exist.

You're allowed (still, for now), to have things that are enjoyable for free.

Do you realise how insane the world is? We don't have many places where we can just be, for free anymore, but ao3 is. Did you notice we don't have ads in ao3? We don't have pop ups? Where ELSE do we not have that?

Where else can you just go and not have to wait for a commercial to be over or for ads to be on the sidelines?

I don't think the younger people understand, but the whole of internet used to be like this. YouTubers would do Youtube for free, just because. You couldn't monetise your internet presence before.

Ao3 is like a little preserved corner of the internet where the old internet used to be, and it's being attacked by people who do not understand that free things are allowed to exist without judgment.

Please don't ruin this for us.

I'm like the pug of people. Making me exist like this in the first place was cruel and deeply unethical, but nonetheless people find me funny and my symptoms endearing.

I think it's actually very buddhist of me to have no object permanence. No emotional attachments when I physically can't make myself keep anything in my mind. "It's all in your head" nah ain't nothing in my head. Can't hold grudges or resentments when people who wronged or annoyed me just stop existing for me the second they're out of my field of vision. No thoughts head empty, I am free.

I don't know which mental illness it is that causes this but every now and then I'll get the urge to be so incredibly productive and proactive in my life,

then I'll go to do one of the things that feel productive and my brain will go "no, not like that, I'm not feeling that one right now"

So I'm like "okay, cool... Out of this huge list of stuff I've been meaning to get done, half of which are hobbies, what are you feeling like doing right now?"

And my brain will be like "mmmmm, I don't know man, it's just not the right vibe. None of these are the right flavor, ya know? But also the fact you haven't decided on anything yet means you're being unproductive so I'm gonna make you feel like you're missing something fundamental in your life until you fulfill the need to be productive"
