It’s noT ABOUT whether Rincewind would ever have been good at magic, it’s about the fact that something CHOSE HIM and now he never gets to find out for himself who he could’ve been without it!!!!!! he doesn’t GET to try he doesn’t GET to learn!!!!!!!!! He doesn’t get to find out!!!!!!! That’s the point that’s the point there is a sentient eldritch spellbook and it is Speaking To Him Inside His Brain and because it decided it wanted Rincewind, there’s an entire person Rincewind COULD HAVE BEEN THAT HE JUST DOESN’T EVER GET TO LEARN ABOUT. And that’s WORSE than if it had just taken talent in general, but it‘s especially worse for RINCEWIND, who Isn’t a wizard because he’s good at it, but because he wanted to try!!!! He wanted to learn!!!!!!!! And now that isn’t an option at all and it TOOK that from him!!!!!! And it’s even possessing him a little and his first instinct was to sass it for not being able remember how the universe began. everytime i think about him for 0.2 seconds i need to scream, throw up, hurl myself through the nearest wall, and possibly die of consumption. Roughly In That Order.

I love it when the same character honorifics are basically used as a barometer for an evolving relationship over the course of a story.
