Announcing Pulsewave’s 2017 Design Residents!
Last month we launched our 2016 Flier Zine, and announced our plans for a design residency in 2017. We also decided to quietly, but maybe not-so-subtly, sneak in the identities of the 2017 residents. Did you figure it out?
Our 2017 Residents Are:
MS. PAINT Ms. Paint (that's miss paint) is a a self-taught programmer & artist. She is currently working on multiple video game projects, a VR cat cafe, and thinking about what IoT devices she can build for her two black cats. Her other interests include glitch art, 80s horror, and indie games. Her aesthetic is fog machines, laser lights, and broken VHS tapes.
ENERJAWN Equipped with long forgotten electronics from years past, Enerjawn focuses on painting live visuals with the use of optical feedback, light, and other various analog devices. LONG LIVE ANALOG VIZ
Want to financially support the work of these two incredible creators? Pick up our 2016 zine today! All money raised from your purchases goes directly into their pockets.
Here’s to our 2017 season! More news coming soon.

Oh hey, it’s 2017!
Thank you so much for your support with our 2016 shirt design fundraiser. Thanks to you, we were able to raise $400 towards travel expenses in our 2017 season. We can’t wait to use those funds to put on amazing shows for you!
We’ve spent the past month and a half getting back on track with our Soundcloud uploads. Don’t forget to follow us over there so you can hear the archive recordings of all our shows! Our plan is to upload new recordings every Monday and Friday. We’ll do our best to maintain that schedule until we’re up to date again.
We’ve also made a second item available for sale: A zine containing our 2016 fliers! Our 2016 design volunteers, vaporstack and Azuria Sky, did such an incredible job that we wanted to showcase their work one more time. They’ve also inspired us to make designers a permanent fixture in our show, so we’ve created a residency program for 2017! All funds generated from the zine will go towards paying those 2017 design residents. We’ll be announcing who they are in a couple of weeks, so stay tuned!
We’re going to be taking January off to rest a little longer, but that doesn’t mean there’s nothing going on. NYC’s demoparty Synchrony is returning once again, though this year there’s a travel element involved. It’s happening on a train!! The kick-off party will be happening at our lovely venue Babycastles, and this year it’s open to the general public! There will be performances by Flow Mein, Corset Lore, and sylcmyk with visuals by nmlstyl. It’s gonna be a great time, and we hope to see you there.
Our next show will be in February. We’ll have the Save the Date up for you soon. Let’s make 2017 the best we possibly can!!

Thank you so much for your support in 2016!! We've decided to celebrate our very successful year by doing something a little extra: Our first ever Pulsewave limited edition shirt!
We're hoping to make this a yearly thing, with a different design each time. This year we've chosen to use a redesign of our classic logo from one of our 2016 resident designers, Vaporstack. While it was originally created for our business cards, we loved it so much we wanted to be able to wear it!
All profits made from this shirt will be going towards funding our travel costs for 2017. We feel very strongly that sustainability in our community is important to its longevity, and so we always cover the transportation costs of the performers we book. By purchasing this shirt, you will be helping us beef up our bank account so that we can bring even more performers from further away and make even more exciting shows for you to enjoy!
We've appreciated your support so much this year! We hope you'll grab one of these shirts and help support our future.

Enter the Halloween Open Mic Contest!
One our favorite traditions is BACK. For our Halloween edition of Pulsewave our open mic turns into a covers contest! Become your favorite artist by paying tribute in song AND costume.
The grand prize is a slot to play Pulsewave in our 2017 season. But wait, there’s more!
We’ve been thinking about how important open mic is to the community and we wanted to up the ante to help cultivate our artists. You can win:
2 hours of studio recording time with Chris Gilroy at Mighty Toad Studio. Record a single and learn what goes into mixing and mastering chip music.
Prosound, backlit Gameboy modded by Matt Hecht. Optimized for playing live!
One on one Skype session with Paul Weinstein (aka Chipocrite). Paul will spend an hour with you to hone your music skills. From creative exercises to LSDJ tips, he can focus on where you are having trouble with a song or what to do next.
Media kit consultation with Jenn de la Vega. She’ll help you put together a great online package to help you book shows and will evaluate your social media presence so you can get the word out about your music.
If you need inspiration, here’s Oxygenstar playing as Led Zeppelin in 2013.

Making our business cards for Low-Level brought is back to some really amazing moments from over the years. Not to mention the festival itself!! We relived a lot of anecdotes amongst ourselves in the process, and then we realized it’d be fun to share them with y’all too! For the next several weeks we’re going to be doing a #tbt with each of your friendly Pulsewave co-organizers: Jenn, Dannel, EMi, and Pat (plus maybe some surprise guests?!) We’ll even include some of the photos that we used on our business cards since you might not have seen them before. We have such a long, rich history at Pulsewave and it’s going to be a lot of fun sharing with you how we got here.

Gosh, Low-Level was great fun wasn’t it? We were a little tuckered out and needed a rest after partying for so many days in a row but we’re awake now! We’re still a little groggy so we’re taking things a little slow, but we wanted to let you know we’ve got some fun stuff on the horizon:
-September’s save-the-date is going to be announced on Friday! Get your fingers on the buzzer calendar cause that info is coming soon.
-*whispers* Halloween is coming. Don’t forget about our annual open mic cover contest! Last year was super fun and we know you’re going to bring it this year too. It might be good to start thinking about a good jam to perform and start getting it ready to go.
That’s all for now. We’re gonna go sip on some coffee.
