Winter 2025 Contest results are in! ✨

The moment you've been waiting for has finally arrived. We received an unbelievable amount of entries for the Winter 2025 contest, and each were just outstanding. I know it's a cliché to say that it was difficult to judge, but it really was. So difficult, actually, that we expanded two categories to include more winners. These new categories are "Other: Animatic" and "Art: Comic".

Thank you one thousand times to each person who submitted their hard work – we were humbled to see your love for Our Life.

Here are my entries for the #SUMMERSPLASHDOWN2025 contest :o] (character belongs to @/fourleafisland)

I figured a lot of people would go for a more clear sailor look, so i wanted to come in with something a bit different. design explanations under the cut!

The first design was inspired by pirates. I always associate the red and white stripes on a scarf to shipmates, so I decided to give critter a hint of that too! The capelet (which i forgot to draw on the back of the design, whoops), is supposed to resemble ocean waves. The sea foam at the bottom of the capelet has a subtle clover pattern on it to return to the general clover theme! Tying the 2 sections of the design together is a golden ship and anchor clip that are tied together by a little chain. I figured a pirate theme wouldn't be complete without wood from ships, and originally wanted to go for a driftwood look for the tail cuffs (unfortunately, i felt it didn't suit the palette...). Instead I took inspiration of wooden tables that use resin to tie 2 pieces of wood together, since these also give a water vibe.

For design 2 I took inspiration of what sailors actually set out to do, catching fish! Critter wears a tiny knitted shawl/scarf, which rests underneath a collar that exists out of vintage Japanese glass floats, which were these glass orbs woven into fishing nets to keep them afloat.

Sticking with the theme of fishing ropes, I decided to let the rope of the collar to tie back to a bigger rope in the back, which has been woven and tied into a cute bow! Critter has Kelp around their tails, which fishing nets sometimes get caught up in. Then the Cuffs are also made from the same material as the glass of the floats! It is a very thick glass, so when the light shines through it, it comes out looking green on the other end of it. This little light i also decided to stylise into a 4 leaf clover. Lastly, the fish on Critter's head is the chat mascot of 4leaf's chat. it wears a little captain cap and proudly takes its spot on top of Critters head!

RARIDASH CONTEST

Dear viewer, have you ever had the thought ‘Raridash is such a wonderful ship! Why is there not more content for it?” Well, reader of excellent taste, so have I! So, I, your magnanimous Raridash advocate, have decided to host a Raridash contest!! This contest, in short, will revolve around creating Raridash works of art- specifically visual (art, animation, etc) and literary (fanfiction, poetry, etc)!

And hey, if the brilliance of Raridash by itself can’t convince you to join- there are some prizes for the winners of this contest!

INFORMATION

As stated, this contest revolves around the creation of Raridash works of art. Specifically the written word and drawn artwork!

There is no ‘minimum’ amount of talent needed to join the contest, if you can barely draw a stick pony? Submit that Raridash art! If you’ve never written any fic before? Give it a shot! You never know what will catch the judge’s attention.

There will be two categories with three winners in each and (if enough entries are reached) a runner up!

RULES

All works of art (literature and visual) submitted must be new and first posted after the publication of this doc.

Each artist (author or visual artist) may submit as many entries as they wish, but they will only be eligible to win one of the provided prize categories.

Collaborations are allowed as long as the individual artists agree on how and if they want to split the prize.

Generative AI (beyond basic spellcheck for written entries) is NOT allowed in any form or context. If you are found to be using generative AI you will be immediately removed from the contest and judging pool.

Content must be wholly yours (and your collaborators, if collaborating). Tracing, plagiarism and theft are not permitted.

Explicitly sexual content is NOT allowed in any form. Spicy or suggestive art is fine as long as both characters are portrayed as of age.

Please note all monetary prizes will be awarded in AUD and delivered solely through PayPal, please check the conversion rate to your country’s currency. Each category will have three winners, and potentially a runner up if enough entries are reached!

LockandKeyHyena - As the host of this contest, all final decisions will come down to my opinion! If you want to appeal to my favourite genres, know that I’m especially fond of Angst, Horror and Experimental works. Don’t be afraid to branch outside of these though!

Maryalezoo - ART CATEGORY ONLY - I love doing art and I pursue it in my free time. As I've been doing it and studying it for many years I intended to help choose a winner :)) I like fantasy elements and symbolism but I enjoy any piece of media which has a message to share. 

Cottonspotten - I’m particularly fond of artwork that explores themes of time and (un)reality, but I love all queer art (Gay Horse), so anything goes.
