I do like the new remix of Devil Trigger, but giving it a new title made me kind of expect it to be a little more than what it is.
However, it did inspire a new undertaking: I've decided to rewrite the lyrics of Devil Trigger to be about Dante instead of Nero, to better reflect his feelings about his demonic power.
Before laying out all of the lyrics, however, I want to talk about the very beginning of the song.
In the intro, Ali Edwards twice sings the line "I'll endure the exile". This is quoting something that Nero said in Devil May Cry 4 when he restored Yamato, essentially saying that he was willing to embrace being a demon if it meant having the strength to protect Kyrie. This isn't unfitting for Dante, he too accepts his nature for the greater good, but I think it's a lot more begrudging for Dante than it is for Nero. Plus, I think if Devil Trigger begins with a quote from Nero, then this version should begin with a quote from Dante.
And I think the best choice is what he says right before the credits roll in Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening.
"I love this! This is what I live for! I'm absolutely crazy about it!"
He says this when he and Lady are surrounded by another horde of demons, just after being assured by Lady that even devils may cry when they lose someone they love. I don't think he's completely lying, I think he does enjoy fighting, and that's part of what keeps him going. But at the same time, it always sounded a little sarcastic to me, and it's placement just after Dante was caught in a vulnerable moment makes me think he's compensating for his pain.
So I think the second singer, Cliff Lloret in the original song, should scream this line just as the beat drops.
I love this!
This is what I live for!
I'm absolutely crazy about it!
Now I'll get into how the lyrics of the rest of the song would change here. I won't explain all of my reasoning here, but if you want me to explain a certain line, you're free to ask.
* * *
The darkness at night falls around my soul
And the hunter within siezes control
I cannot erupt, I cannot erupt
I cannot erupt, I must control
This demon inside has a hold of me
Clenching my heart, and I cannot break free
I cannot erupt, I cannot erupt
I cannot erupt, I must explode
Let's rock, baby, don't be slow
Rush in blind, lock and load, time to go
I've given up trying to ignore
All this fate that's behind me
Pulling shots, aiming dots, yeah I don't miss
Branded by fire, born in the abyss
Red hot ichor, I just can't dismiss
All this reason behind me
* * *
All of these voices inside of my head
Heart on fire, veins burning red
I've got pile of regrets, and it's only getting bigger
So I shrug, sigh, roll my eyes - And pull my Devil Trigger
Embrace the sin that constitutes me
No hiding from his shadow anymore
Let this wickedness consume me
Nothing can save me, and there's no way out
* * *
I'm a wildfire you won't tame
Not even my dolor can put out my flame
There's no way to restrain
This storm raging behind me
Never had control to lose
Ticking like a bomb you can't defuse
Can't turn down, can't refuse
To take charge anymore
* * *
All of these voices inside of my head
Closing my eyes, no forgetting the dead
I've got pile of regrets, and it's only getting bigger
So I shrug, sigh, roll my eyes - And pull my Devil Trigger
Night after night my ways grow firmer
I fight myself to get further
You still have time, but I was born in flames
I'll bite the silver bullet with my name
* * *
All of these voices inside of my head
Heart on fire, veins burning red
I've got pile of regrets, and it's only getting bigger
So I shrug, sigh, roll my eyes - And pull my Devil Trigger

People still tend to lump JK Rowling in with the category of ~problematic artists~ and I need everyone to understand that is not the problem with her. She is not comparable to anyone who wrote a piece of fiction you hate, or someone who made rude comments in 2015 and has since learned better.
She is far more like Elon Musk. She is a radicalized person with an extreme amount of social and financial power, and for YEARS she has been using that power to try to influence her government into hurting vulnerable people, on purpose. And she has succeeded. THAT is the problem with her, and THAT is why spending money on her books is so dangerous, not because her books aged badly.
Critiquing her work is fine, of course (I personally was never a fan so I really don’t care) but you NEED to understand that fiction is not the main issue here. And I truly think acting like she’s the same as the rest of any giant list of ~problematic creators of the week~ waters down how dangerous she is.

Fanfics sometimes have the Yamato speaking in one way or another but what if it spoke like a twitch chatter or something
Like Vergil is about to stab himself and the Yamato is like "We are so cooked🙏" "WHAT is bro doing 😭" and when Vergil kills Arkham but not really it says "poggers"
when it's shattered by Mundus it's final words are "o7"
When it's repaired by Nero it goes "we are SO back lets goooooo"
Vergil's the only one who can understand this thing

I'm a transfem Vergil truther. I'm also a trans man Nero truther. I'm also a "Lady in Red is so elusive because he's a trans man now" truther.
So anyway, I had the thought of LiR finally meeting Vergil and Nero again after so long, except he just has no idea that it's them. Sure their white hair is very distinct, but Dante's probably also there so who knows how many white haired bitches there are.
And LiR is just saying "I met this one man a while back and we were in love for a little bit, but I never met him again. Anyways I also had a baby daughter that I had to give up. I wonder what they're doing now."
He's right there with them.

I've been thinking about Dante picking up new devil arms that are similar to old ones during his time in the Underworld with Vergil.
One concept I had is some siblings to Agni and Rudra, utilizing earth and water instead of fire and wind. I'd name them Bhumi and Varuna, respectively, since those are also names of the same subcategory of Hindu deities. I even got some inspiration for their personalities while skimming the Wikipedia pages for the deities.
I think if Agni and Rudra are the middle twins, then Bhumi is the older sister, and Varuna is the baby brother. The Underworld is a harsh place to raise a family, so once their parents were lost, Bhumi basically raised her siblings. She can seem pretty reserved, but she's a force to be reckoned with if you cross her. Varuna is more playful and easygoing, but he's not a pushover either.
At first glance, you might see a clear parallel with the twins. Bhumi is the eldest, and very stoic, kind of like Vergil. Varuna is the youngest, and more wacky-woohoo, like Dante. But like Dante, Bhumi is the responsible one, while Varuna is more impulsive and promiscuous, like Vergil.
Perhaps their color schemes are even similar... I could imagine Bhumi having some magma-like properties when separated from Varuna. He helps her stay cool.
Obviously their weapon would utilize some mud-based attacks, but also I could imagine plant growth being involved, since earth and water are both necessary resources for plants.
Maybe the siblings reside in a forest? I'm humored by the thought that Bhumi and Echidna were girlfriends before the latter went to the human world and got herself killed by Dante. I wonder if Bhumi would hold a grudge...

My biggest issue with Nero's arm growing back besides... literally everything (takes away a fun gameplay dynamic, redundant and adds nothing to Nero's story, ableism) is the fact that giving Nero a proper Devil Trigger form and having it keep the robot arm could've been the most badass thing possible but then they just didn't do that.
Granted it might mess up the gameplay somehow, but I'm sure Capcom could've found some work-arounds.

Lately I've been thinking about pushing Dante's moveset to its absurd-yet-logical conclusion, and giving him as many styles and weapons as he can have.
I've pictured Dante with 8 styles, with each selected by pressing one of the Style Wheel directions twice (like how Quicksilver and Doppelganger are selected in the Nintendo Switch version of Devil May Cry 3).
It's easy to imagine some of the new styles that Dante could have.
Trickster could be split into two styles. One has his dash, air star, and the wall running mechanic from Devil May Cry 3. The other has a variety of Darkslayer-like teleports. I'd probably name the resulting new style "Redshifter".
Dante's summoned swords/mirage blades introduced in Devil May Cry 5 could be turned into their own style, with Devil Sword Dante gaining some more traditional Swordmaster moves, probably utilizing the scythe transformation that Devil Sword Sparda never really took full advantage of.
He could also have a ranged moveset for his summoned swords/mirage blades, inspired by Vergil's own ranged attacks, though intended more for extending combos than damage in this case.
Both summoned sword/mirage blade styles could also be used to activate Sword Formation with a back-to-forward input. It may seem redundant to place that mechanic in two different styles, but it can be helpful for a player who doesn't want to equip all 8 styles, and wants access to Sword Formation without being forced to choose one particular style.
Maybe the two styles could have similar names to reflect their overlapping roles, and the fact that neither of them are affected by Sword Formation... "Blademaster" and "Bladeslinger"? That'd mean that Sword Formation would have to be renamed to Blade Formation, though, I'm not sure I like that as much.
As for the 8th style, the one overlapping with Royal Guard, I would bring back one of the styles from Devil May Cry 3: the Quicksilver style.
Now, in its original appearance, the style functions more like an alternate Devil Trigger than a style, but I have some ideas to bring it up to par with the other styles. See below:
Quicksilver Style
Dante's Quicksilver Style grants him control over time, allowing himself to manage and recover from intense situations. Rather than pulling from a universal energy pool like Devil Trigger or Royal Gauge, each Quicksilver move has an independent cooldown period. A successful devil hunter will use each move wisely.
Style: Slow Touch
A close-range attack allowing Dante to effectively stop one demon in its tracks. Only one demon can be affected by Slow Touch at a time. Of all of Dante's slowing moves, this one lasts for the longest time. This one has no cooldown period, but using it while another demon is already affected will restore the previously affected demon to full speed, unless Tracker (see below) is active. This move can be performed in the air.
Forward + Style: Slow Sphere.
A projectile move where Dante will launch a small sphere of Slow Time, slowing down any demons inside the radius. Of all of Dante's slowing moves, this one has a moderate duration and cooldown period. This move can be performed in the air.
Backward + Style: Slow Dome.
Create a wide dome of Slow Time where Dante is standing, slowing down any demons inside the radius. Of all of Dante's slowing moves, this one lasts for the shortest time, and has the longest cooldown. This move cannot be performed in the air.
Back-to-Forward + Style: Rewind Time
Reverse time by a few seconds, restoring Health, Devil Trigger, Sin Devil Trigger, Royal Gauge, and Orbs to their previous state. This also reverts the Health and Armor of enemies to its previous state, and restores lost time in the Bloody Palace. This move can be performed in the air.
Sword Formation: Tracker
Dante's summoned swords/mirage blades will form a shape similar to the hands of a clock, and tick. Each hand tracks the duration or cooldown period of one of Dante's four Quicksilver moves.
This will speed up the cooldowns of all Quicksilver moves, cause all Quicksilver moves to last longer, cause Rewind Time to go farther, cause Devil Trigger and Sin Devil Trigger to deplete more slowly, and increase the time window for Quadruple S.
This may sound strong, but keep in mind that this effect is only active while Dante is in Quicksilver style, meaning that the player must remain in Quicksilver style to take full advantage of the effect.
Tracker also allows Dante to stop two demons at a time with Slow Touch. Switching to another style will not interfere with the effect on either stopped demon.
* * *
Besides all of these changes, there are ways to expand the existing styles.
As I said, Devil Sword Dante could have a traditional Swordmaster moveset. Plus, if a moveset is packed, Dante could use inputs where the Attack button and the Style button are pressed at the same time, like Vergil and Nero already do.
Royal Guard already has Forward Release, but you could also add an Up Release performed on the ground, and a Down release performed in the air, with Royal Revenge being moved to a back-to-forward input. Perhaps this could come with a return of the Charge Release mechanic from Devil May Cry 3, which could allow the player to control how much of the Royal Gauge is expended upon a Release. All of this could add some nuance to the pure Royal Guard playstyle.
But I think the style with the most room for expansion is Gunslinger.
I think that Twosome Time and Honeycomb fire could be moved to Ebony and Ivory's standard moveset. Use a back-to-forward input to enter Twosome Time, and hold forward during Twosome Time to activate Honeycomb Fire. Upon switching to Gunslinger, the player would gain access to distinct and complete movesets for Ebony and Ivory respectively.
Ivory moves, consisting of fully automatic sprays, would be mapped to the Style button. The most notable example would be Rainstorm, which now only utilizes Ivory. However, Dante will fire Ebony if the player presses the Gun button during Rainstorm.
Speaking of which, Ebony's moves would be mapped to the Gun button, and would consist of narrow, hard-hitting, penetrating, and sometimes ricocheting shots, somewhat inspired by Spiral from Devil May Cry 3.
Ivory attacks can sort of be charged too, but by repeatedly firing instead of preparing a single shot. Kind of like Dr. Faust's Red Shot, or the Gunslinger style's Rapid Shot from Devil May Cry 3.
While wielding one-handed guns like Coyote-A, Dante can still use Twosome Time, wielding Ebony in his left hand. And if Dante switches to Gunslinger while wielding such a one-handed gun, the gun's standard fire will be replaced by Ebony's Gunslinger moves.
Now, whether not any or all of these changes would actually make Dante more fun to play is subjective, but I still feel proud of what I've come up with. If you made it this far, I hope you enjoyed the post.

Keeping in mind that Nero's Devil Bringer allowed him to absorb powers from demonic objects, I'm having thoughts about a plot where he would try to use some sort of contraption to absorb all of the world's demonic energy into himself.
If Nero succeeded, he'd basically become a god, probably the most powerful demon who'd ever lived. But what would this mean for all of the demons he draws power from? While it could be the case that Nero would simply replicate their power, like he did with Yamato at the end of DMC5, it'd make for a more interesting story if that wasn't the case. Would Nero's contraption kill every demon, or simply leave them harmless and defenseless?
If the latter was the case, or presumed to be the case, then I don't think Nero would even need to go through that much to consider trying such a thing, and perhaps some of the 'good guys' would even support his plan.
A notable exception to this would be Trish, who is a demon herself. She'd be concerned as to whether the machine would really leave her unharmed, and even if it did she might feel that having her power stolen would take away part of who she is. Lucia would probably support Nero's plan for the very same reason, though she may not really be happy if she got what she wished for. I think Lady would be more conflicted. The thought of a permanent end to threats from demons would be of interest to her, but she'd also be scared to decide what to do with herself afterward. Plus, her past experiences have left her distrustful of schemes to gain power.
Dante would feel the same way, though his belief would be challenged unlike ever before, because Nero's motives actually are somewhat altruistic, and he doesn't intend any harm (to humans, at least). Vergil, however, could potentially be swayed to Nero's side. While he regrets the loss of life caused by the Qliphoth, I don't know if he's really let go of his obsession with power by the end of DMC5. He'd be proud of Nero for finding what seems to be such a clean path to power.
I highly doubt Nero could build such a machine without Nico's help. She might be interested in helping Nero gain power at first, though she'd begin having concerns about the larger consequences as the project gets scaled up more and more until its reach becomes worldwide. On a sillier note, I like the machine being sort of designed like a giant Devil Breaker, something that Nero sticks his arm into to interface with and use it.
Kyrie is Nero's main reason for fighting evil at all, her values are his own. If she disapproved of this path, he'd probably stop in his tracks. On one hand, her experiences with Agnus and the Savior could have soured her toward this kind of demonic science, but she surely does have a lot of faith in Nero too.

I can envision 3 changes made to Vergil's moveset in Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition (and his DLC) that would discourage players from simply cheesing encounters by spamming his super-moves.
Concentration resets to Level 0 whenever combat ends (no longer allowing the player to save a full Concentration gauge for an entire mission).
SDT activation has a cost the same way DT does, that scales with Concentration. At Concentration Level 0, it costs 10%, at Concentration Level 1, it costs 5%, and at Concentration Level 2, it costs nothing. SDT begins to drain as soon as it is activated, except at Concentration Level 3, when it will remain full for a brief window of time (the way it does in vanilla).
Each super-move costs a different amount of SDT. Judgement Cut End still costs 30%, Deep Stinger costs 45%, and Hell On Earth costs 90%.
If these 3 things were the case, a player wanting to trivialize a boss fight would need to build up Concentration within that fight, and they wouldn't be able to get as much damage out of a single gauge's worth of SDT.
I don't think Vergil would even stop being overpowered if this were the case, but I don't know how I'd approach nerfing Judgement Cut chaining.
