not to sound like a christian facebook mom but some of yall need to have grace in your hearts for the people in your lives or the people you pass once on the road and never see again like you literally need to stop assuming the worst of everyone and their intentions it is poisoning your brain. you can be careful and responsible without being a miserable person. it is possible i promise
#general#be nice to people#few things drive me up the wall more than people talking about survival of the fittest as if it's a strength competition#that's not what that means!#the fittest for humans is working together and compassion#also I'll never understand people who are rude to customer service peopler#like do you really think that makes anyone want to help you?

"this character sucks. I didn't even read their chapters"
Then....how do you know they suck? How do you know they're not important if you just ignore their storyline?
#asoiaf#I literally can't wrap my head around doing this#like missing big chunks of the story???#on purpose?????

Eliminating Greyjoys/martells/Sam ect cause in a weird blessing way the fandom's amnesia to their plots means we have less crazy arguments about them

people always have the targaryen story that hurts them the most. a lot say aerea, or rhaella, naerys or viserra but i can’t help but think of viserys, son of alyssa. how he haunted that family for generations, how nobody came back for him yet he lived in the mind of jaehaerys and rhaena and alyssa. when rhaena searched the world for aerea, did she think of the brother they all left behind? when jaehaerys first sat the iron throne did he think of how his older brother was tortured in that same castle? when alyssa was gifted with the head of her son’s killers did she wish she had ran at all?

Dany is the third of her name (though the first to claim the throne,) and I think the fates of the previous two Daenerys’ were chosen very intentionally. The first Daenerys died of the shivers (which is a loaded name for a disease in a series where an upcoming invasion of evil ice beings is a major plot point,) and the second married into Dorne for political reasons.
We know that our Dany ultimately declined the Dornish marriage and her suitor met his end trying to steal a dragon, so she avoided the same fate as her ancestor. Is the other Daenerys dying of the shivers supposed to be a clue that she will survive the Long Night and the War for the Dawn, once again breaking the pattern set by a previous Daenerys?
(This isn’t even touching Rhaenyra and her conflict with a male family member with a competing claim, where she was obviously killed and vilified by history, because the potential parallels and divergences there is a whole huge topic in itself…)

so I just realized that dany compares both willem darry and jorah to bears, specifically in the context of fatherly figures. except while ser willem was *actually* a fatherly figure to her, jorah uses dany’s trust in him to prey on her.
dany about willem darry:
“She remembered Ser Willem dimly, a great grey bear of a man, half-blind, roaring and bellowing orders from his sick bed.” (AGOT, Daenerys I)
“His big wrinkled hand reached for her, soft as old leather, and Dany wanted to take it and hold it and kiss it, she wanted that as much as she had ever wanted anything. Her foot edged forward, and then she thought, He’s dead, he’s dead, the sweet old bear, he died a long time ago. She backed away and ran.” (ACOK, Daenerys IV)
dany about jorah (a few examples of many)
“My great bear, Dany thought. I am his queen, but I will always be his cub as well, and he will always guard me. It made her feel safe, but sad as well. She wished she could love him better than she did.” (ACOK, Daenerys II)
“They betrayed me. But they saved me. But they lied. ‘You go . . . ’ My bear, my fierce strong bear, what will I do without him?” (ASOS, Daenerys V)
“This is Jorah, my fierce bear, the right arm that never failed me. I would be dead without him, but . . . ‘I can’t forgive you,’ she said. ‘I can’t.’” (ASOS, Daenerys VI)
“Farewell, old bear. Farewell, betrayer.” (ASOS, Daenerys VI)
“And what did that make Ser Jorah, her gruff old bear? Would she never have a friend that she could trust?” (ADWD, Daenerys VI)
“My bear, she thought, my old sweet bear, who loved me and betrayed me.” (ADWD, Daenerys X)
the first quote is particularly upsetting because—even though dany is aware of jorah’s romantic and sexual feelings towards her—she believes that he thinks of her as “his cub” first and foremost. despite how openly jorah desires her, dany still considers their relationship to primarily be that of a father and daughter (a belief that jorah clearly does not share).
and that’s one of the many reasons why jorah’s betrayal is so unforgivable. how can a 15 year old girl process her feelings about a relationship if the lines between platonic vs fatherly vs romantic vs sexual love are constantly blurred? when there’s no boundary between their professional vs personal relationship? jorah supposedly shows her every type of “love” there is, and he still betrays her. like no wonder dany has trust issues.
all dany wants is a parent to love and protect her, and instead she gets a pedophile. oh my baby girl.
