since i don’t speak yiddish, i can only vouch for modern hebrew and its uses might not be completely body shape related, but they sort of are, even if not used to offend. it’s used as an endearment mostly for babies/toddlers. once they lose their baby fat, it becomes less common to call a kid/adult that. when older, being a shmendrik, is still in good vibes, but becomes an even less of a physical thing, but a just a personality thing. being a shmendrik can be a foodie? but also someone who likes to eat, who’s worried about dinner during lunch, wants a bite out of everyone’s order lmao
