A blog for modding the game Dragon Age 2. If you got here from an outfit mod post, it's probably part of my ongoing Companion Timeskip Mod and will be released when all timeskip appearances are done!

... HA. Oh my god, I know exactly what caused that, but I'd never expected it to! My script changes the appearance on hostage Anders in Best Served Cold to match the house outfit; doing that must have triggered him to load prematurely when you visited, instead of just for the quest!
?????????????????????? what the hell??????
why is there an anders clone camping out in the wounded coast????
#anders#handers#i have no idea why he's taller though#that one's not on me#i'll have to see if i can fix that when i do the full timeskip script

Hi! I've been having a problem with the Merrill house clothes replacer, in that it replaces all her clothes, even when going into battle and, while her outfit is cute as hell, I really don't feel it's practical for fighting giant spiders. Or at least, I don't think Merrill would want to ruin it with giant spider ichor.
Ahh, yeah, that’s the problem with the outfits as it stands right now. Each of these outfits is meant for a specific purpose, but most of them are at least suitable for most situations (even if the MotA outfits are a bit fancy for fighting spiders). But Merrill’s casual clothes are definitely… not suited for that sort of thing.
When the full timeskip outfits are released, I’ll be releasing a script which will automatically switch between the appropriate outfits, meaning that Merrill will only wear the fancy clothes when in her home in the Alienage or in the Hawke Estate, but the script itself is going to be sort of a bear to implement and I consequently don’t want to do it until the outfits are all done, which is itself a massive undertaking.
Which definitely left me in a bit of a pickle with Merrill’s outfit. For a while I wasn’t sure if I’d release any of the casual outfits as standalone replacers at all, but my preview shots of Merrill’s casual outfit got a number of requests to just release it as a standalone replacer.
This long rambling answer being to say - I totally feel your complaint and am working on resolving it, but it might take me some time. Sorry!

I have a question about your timeskip mod. I love all the outfits but if I wanted just one of them for the entire game would I just download that one from the nexus or would just installing one mess up the game somehow?
Oh wow, how long has this been sitting in my inbox? Right now; no, it would not. They’re all independent replacers; you can download one individual one without incident.

Do you have any plans/recommendations for a Hawke family mod that does ginger hair? I've tried the 'Redhaired Hawkes' mod on Nexus, and it doesn't seem to be working for me, and I'd really rather have my Hawke family looking at least a little alike.
I’m afraid I have no idea! I’ve never done one, at the least. I would ordinarily volunteer to make one but tbh I’m already well behind in terms of mods I’ve promised people and I don’t want to make an empty promise. It is pretty easy for you to do yourself, though, if you know the color you want to use; I’d be happy to point you in the right direction if you want.

i was thinking of getting into modding but i have no idea where to even begin, any advice? (modding like actually making things etc)
Hrm, well, there’s a lot of options here, actually! I guess my first advice would be to ask what kinds of mods you want to make? I find the best way to learn is to start with a project, learn how to do that, then move on to another one.

May we get a Fenris Home clothes as well? Or something for him in MOTA?
Both are in my eventual plans! I often like to nod to concept art in the designs for these, and for his home clothes, I’m thinking something reminiscent of this old sketch of him - https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/dragonage/images/c/c2/Fenris_02.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20130723204955 - though obviously significantly changed, as the Fenris designed here is pale, has black hair, and has totally different tattoos to what he has currently. I’ll also be placing the shirt over, you know, both shoulders, and probably covering more of the chest in general, and I’m losing the vaguely shackle type bracelets because noooo. But the loose silk tunic and long loose red pants seem like great casual comfy clothes to wear around the house once he finally starts to relax enough to do so, so I intend to use them as a base. I try to personalize the casual clothes a bit for each character, with Merrill being intended to wear them from the start of Act One, Fenris not until after his Act Two personal quest, Anders only if he moves in to the Amell Estate with you (I know, I know, I promise I’m not leaving him out on purpose, but I have a lot of reasons), Isabela having tavern clothes, etc. Sebastian I’m still trying to figure out - I want to give him the same number of outfits as the other LIs, but I can’t follow the same pattern as the others because of the unique pattern of his romance. I’m thinking he’ll get Chantry robes to wear around the Chantry, but I go back and forth as to whether he’ll wear that to the Estate, especially if romanced. (I’m thinking Aveline doesn’t get casual clothes because her base is her office where she’s on duty, Varric doesn’t because among the other issues with editing his outfit those are his casual clothes, and if Hawke doesn’t change in Gamlen’s house then there’s really no reason to give the twins casual clothes either.)As for MotA, I’m thinking something in the style of a longer black jacket and pants, something period but with Fenris flair, along the lines of the Black Fox Jerkin or Amell Ancestral Arms. As with all other romances, he’ll have both romanced and non-romanced versions of his MotA clothes.

Casual Clothes Merrill now available for download
Hey guys, remember how I was all like “Oh, I’ll put up Merrill’s casual outfit once I’m done with Isabela’s remaining five outfits because I want to do all of the outfits for one character before I move on to the next,” and then proceeded to screw around for like six months because of other life stuff?
Yeah, I’ve made you guys wait for no reason for too long. I hope to release the other Isabela outfits soonish, but the texturing for that one is a bear and I have had so many requests for this outfit, so I hereby release it out into the wild. TYSM to Atlas and Fen for the help in debugging this.
Download Instructions:
Pick the “Merrill Home Clothes” file and unzip it. You’ll see two .erf files, one named “Merrill Home Clothes (Base Replacer)” and one named “Merrill Home Clothes (Romance Replacer)”. The Base Replacer will replace only her first outfit; the romance replacer will replace only her romance outfit. If you want to replace both, use both .erf files.
Now drop the .erf file(s) into your Override folder. If you do not know where your “Override” folder is, it is found under the same Dragon Age 2 folder that stores your user data (this is the same Dragon Age 2 folder where any screenshots taken in-game will be stored). This will usually be found in your “My Documents” or “Documents” folder, in the “Bioware” folder, and is NOT the one found under your Program Files. This should be the case for both Macs and PCs, but if you have wound up with an alternate filepath, try to find your in-game screencaps folder and navigate up to the “Dragon Age 2” folder. Once you are in this folder, go into “packages”, then “core”. There should already be a folder named “override” in here; if there is none, and are sure you are in the right location, you may create one. Once in the “override” folder, you can just paste the files there.
Download the file at this link. Happy modding!

Me: Why have I not just buckled down and finished this Isabela Act 3 outfit already
Me: Oh yeah
#companion timeskip outfits wip#isabela#i mean look at this#there's so much empty space in this#if i keep this as the uv map then it will be a way bigger file than it needs to be#but if i try to combine these then i will have to resize literally every single island#b/c even if i put the hat as its own submesh#these cannot possibly all fit into one 1024 x 1024 map#and i don't go over 2 submeshes in a mesh#nothing else in the game that i know of does#and i'm p sure that means there are performance issues with it#and this is all without including the romance token#i guess i could put it in that bigass empty space somewhere#since that's what we in the biz refer to as 'dead easy'#and merge the hat into the main mesh#or i could keep the romance paraphernalia as its own mesh#since its texture is already here and all#six of one and all that#so all that becomes harder if i make this a more compact map#but conversely#look at all that fucking empty space#i feel like i have sinned grievously

But seriously do you guys think that skintone matches okay? I’m working on a new modder’s resources texture with the DAI skin map tinted to work with the DA2 skin tinting system, since all of DAI’s outfit meshes have a separate skin portion mapped to this texture and it’ll make conversions a lot smoother
Today in modding out of context…

will you be adding your modded Merrill’s house clothes to the Standalone Replacers mod at some point in the future? :^O
Yup! I want to finish all of Isabela’s first just because it’s easier for me to keep track of things if I do these one character at a time, but Merrill’s up after Isabela and her house clothes will probably go up alongside the last of Isabela’s outfits!
(I’ll probably put up Isabela’s tavern clothes while I’m at it, too. I skipped out on Anders’ Estate Robes because they’re literally just recolored m!Hawke Estate Robes and I didn’t think anyone had interest in them as a standalone replacement, but cool casual outfit wear will go up with the rest of the replacers.)
#seb and anders will probably be the ones whose casual clothes don't go up as standalone replacers#b/c it's just an estate robe recolor and chantry robes#but isabela's merrill's and fenris's are getting some fancier design in this#i feel a little bit bad about that making the number of replacers uneven#but ultimately i don't think it's that big a deal#and this fits the characters better than making up fancy anders and seb outfits#that don't really fit the characters#just to keep it even#plus it'll be even in the timeskip itself#it's just that some of the casual clothes are suitable for wearing outside the house#and some aren't#(well chantry robes seb might be)#(but that replacer already exists and i'm not reinventing the wheel here)

Hello, and welcome to the long-promised Timeskip Companion Outfit Standalone Replacers!
Those of you following me here may be familiar with my Companion Timeskip Outfits project, an eventual effort to provide different outfits for every companion on the basis of act, romance status, whether or not it's Mark of the Assassin, and whether or not the final quest was completed. In the final Timeskip project, all companions will have a full set of outfits that will automatically change over: however, I've had several requests to upload the outfits I have completed thus far as standalone replacers, and am consequently doing so now. New outfits will be uploaded as I complete them.
To Install
Pick the file(s) corresponding to the outfit(s) you like, then unzip and drop the .erf file into your Override folder. If you do not know where your "Override" folder is, it is found under the same Dragon Age 2 folder that stores your user data (this is the same Dragon Age 2 folder where any screenshots taken in-game will be stored). This will usually be found in your "My Documents" or "Documents" folder, in the "Bioware" folder, and is NOT the one found under your Program Files. This should be the case for both Macs and PCs, but if you have wound up with an alternate filepath, try to find your in-game screencaps folder and navigate up to the "Dragon Age 2" folder. Once you are in this folder, go into "packages", then "core". There should already be a folder named "override" in here; if there is none, and are sure you are in the right location, you may create one. Once in the "override" folder, you can just paste the files there.
To Uninstall
Delete the .erf files from your override folder.
Currently, the outfits available include:
Anders First Outfit Replacers:
Act One - A modified Grey Warden outfit, to indicate Anders as having recently left the Wardens.
Act Two Romanced - The same first romance outfit as available in Anders Automatic Romance Armors. Contains a hawk feather color scheme and bracers with the Amell crest.
Act Three Start - A dark variation of Anders' first outfit, opened
Act Three Start Romanced - A dark variation of Anders' first outfit, opened and with bracers with the Amell crest.
Mark of the Assassin - A fancier outfit inspired by his Awakening clothes, with the original Awakening color scheme. Suitable to wear to fancy parties.
Mark of the Assassin Romanced - A fancier outfit inspired by his Awakening clothes, with a red and black color scheme and the Amell crest. Suitable to wear to fancy parties.
Anders Second Outfit Replacers:
Post-Justice Romanced - The same second romance outfit as available in Anders Automatic Romance Armors. Mixes red feathers in alongside his black and includes bracers with the Amell crest.
Isabela Base Outfit Replacers:
Act One - A modified DAI Captain's Coat mashup with the pants from Isabela's DAI outfit and the gloves from her base outfit.
Mark of the Assassin - A modified Harlequin outfit, recolored to be black, blue and gold.
Isabela Romance Outfit Replacers:
Mark of the Assassin Romanced - A modified Harlequin outfit, recolored to be black, red and gold. Includes an Amell crest print. No Amell favor armband because it looked really weird with the red ties, sorry, but I can add it in if anyone really thinks it should be there.
Labeled pictures of all of these outfits may be found under the pictures section as well.
Please let me know if you want any of Anders' first outfits to replace his second outfit or vice versa, and if you'd like an Act One Outfit replacer for Isabela's romance outfit. This mod is not compatible with any other outfit replacers or retextures for the replaced outfit. Hell will freeze over before you get any fairskinned Isabela variants, do not ask for them, do not edit these to be fairskinned Isabela.
Coming Up next
Act Three Isabela romance and nonromanced variants, concept art Isabela inspired outfits available with and without her fancy hat from DAI.
Other mods visible in this mod:
Unique Face Textures for Companions
Curly Hair for Isabela
Permissions:
You may retexture and redistribute any of the outfits provided within this mod as long as you do not lighten Isabela's skintone in any armor replacers meant for Isabela. (You may of course do so if you are using it for a lighter-skinned Hawke or other companion, just not Isabela or any other darker-skinned companions.)
Thanks to:
vaelsmod for the texture base + pre-trimmed mesh used for Anders' Act One coat.
DA2 NPC Hands for the lighter palms texture + non-wooden looking fingers used for the hands Isabela's Act One outfit, which I just feel gives it a nice touch of realism.
Looking for a more traditional DAI Captain's Coat for Isabela? Try CC Addons and Various Mods. Looking for a more traditional DAI style Warden outfit for Anders? Try DAI Warden Armor for Anders and Morph Tweaks. Looking for some more Harlequin outfit recolors? Try Harlequin Armor Recolor.
You can get these outfits at this link! Happy modding!

I love your companion immersion appearance mods! Are you releasing them as you finish, or waiting until everything is done? Because WOW do I want your Act 1 Anders and Isabela, but I don't see any links to download them and I don't know if I'm just blind??
Haha - you know, I’d been planning to wait to upload them until all of them were done, but I’ve been so busy lately I haven’t had time - yeah, I’ll go ahead and just post the ones that are done as standalones this weekend! I’ll add outfits as they finish and I’ll just do a new release with the automatic swap functionality when it’s done. Thanks!

Holy cheeseballs you guys
Nexus link
The bi mod you were all waiting for (at least I sure was).
The intent of this mod isn’t just to allow women to romance Morrigan and men to romance Alistair, it’s to add everything missing in these romances to make them as immersive as possible. Whenever there’s an opportunity to flirt with an npc that was gender restricted, I made it open for gay/bi wardens as well (cause let’s be real, the only gender restrictions were in favour of straight flirting). This involved a ton of dialogue and audio editing, along with constructing brand new dialogue.
What this mod includes:
Characters won’t misgender the Warden. This applies to every time the Warden’s relationship with Alistair or Morrigan is acknowledged.
Any gendered dialogue has been edited.
Added new banter for characters so that they’ll acknowledge the gay relationships.
Added jealousy dialogues for Alistair and Morrigan if the Warden is cheating on either of them with the other.
Women can do the dark ritual with Morrigan.
Women can marry Anora.
Men can marry Alistair.
Previously dude exlusive flirting options for Leliana are now open to women.
Removed unnecessary gender restrictions on the Warden’s dialogue options.
Any bugs that I encountered have been fixed.
Below are a couple of examples so that you can see for yourself, a more extended description, along with more videos, can be found in the nexus link.
