I’m taking an indefinite hiatus.

My work has been piling up and that’s been affecting my creativity. Up until now, I’ve been mostly forcing myself to turn out work that in hindsight, I’m not entirely proud of.

There are some things that I did enjoy doodling up, but unlike a lot of people, I really am mostly a hobbyist artist. I love drawing but I also have a lot in my personal life right now that prevents me from enjoying it as of late.

Sometimes I get a quick burst of inspiration and I have to put it to paper while the idea is fresh, but so often do those ideas come to me during times when they really shouldn’t, like when I’m driving, doing something else, and especially when I’m at work (which is when I really shouldn’t be drawing). I need to put my responsibility to my job ahead of me first.

I’ll still be plenty active on my main @vaseshipghost account, where you can see me reblog pretty much be everything I like, but that’s about it.

I just can’t continue fooling myself into doing something that at the moment brings me no joy.

This isn’t goodbye here, this account will still be up for anyone who wants to see what I’ve done so far, but I need more time to actually improve without pressuring myself into doing so, get the tools that will actually help me, and more importantly, rediscover my love for drawing.

When will I be back here? Who knows. Could be next week, could be next month, maybe even next year. One thing is certain, I’m not going away forever. I will come back. I just need time for myself.

Saturday Post time!

I have no new drawings this week. Well actually I did do one but I’m gonna build up to that reveal another time. Also this week was rough for me in terms of work so I was physically exhausted by the time I remembered my Saturday Posts was coming up.

For now, it’s another blast from the far past as I introduce a My Hero Academia FC instead!

Yeah I have some grievances against the series myself especially with how it ended but I still love this series all in all.

So here’s FC!

As you can see it’s a far back one form two years ago. He’s Mineta’s uncle and is the complete opposite of him in every way, being an actually decent human being with no interest in anything sexual (he’s actually quite afraid of commitment for a variety of reasons, not the least of which being his own aroaceness), and he’s a Mayor. Of which city, I will not say. But he is a genuinely nice guy who DOES NOT TAKE HIS NEPHEW’S SHIT and actually dislikes his “habits”.

Honestly when I made this guy it was purely for self indulgence but as time progressed I grew fond of Oda. He may end up appearing again.

Anyways, that’s it for the week. Any plans I have for next week may be put on the back burner AGAIN if next week’s work schedule is anything to go by. I’ll have to see.

As I promised last week, I worked a bit more on trying to break down character face consistency by exclusively focusing on that and that alone.

For that purpose, I made a wholly original character to help me keep consistent. And by that I just, drew up a base face.

Here’s the final results.

With the exception of the first one, I tried to make each of these different ins one ways. Some have similar faces and that was because I was trying to keep consistent with how the design looks. Didn’t stop me from making a minor adjustment or two every time I redrew this face to remind myself what I was doing. But overall, I’m more satisfied with this than the last one.

Will I revisit this character and maybe expand on them more? Probably, probably not. We’ll see.

But I’m glad I forced myself to focus a bit more on something else.

Though I’m wondering if I should do something different next week.

I’ll see what happens.

As promised, my overdue sketches. This time I decided to try a technique I saw on YouTube to try and simplify the faces of any characters I draw to simple shapes so I can work on drawing them easily from any angle.

I chose a character from my arsenal named Thantos Caldavar (yes that’s how his name is spelled).

Honestly, I’m not happy with how all of these turned out. The first page was fine, but the next two could had been better. I tried to experiment with the shape of the eyes to see if that would help and it honestly didn’t. But I thought I’d show the attempts anyway as a means of showing my attempts at progress. I do think this would work better if it was digital however. Which just reminds me that I don’t have a digital art pad with me to try again with. Oh well.

I’ll also leave the video in question that I found that showed me this trick. I must be missing something here. I’ll try again next week with a different character.

No Saturday post this week.

I slipped on some ice while doing some things at work two days ago. I’m okay, not in the hospital or anything, but the soreness of my arm has made it so that I need to take it a bit easy and keep myself active in other ways aside from drawing.

I’ll make up for it by doubling up for next week’s post. I think this time I’m gonna try some tricks I saw on a YouTube video to further diversify how I make faces. Hopefully it works out.

Whoops! I lost track of time and forgot to put up my weekly post!

Oops!

Well, I also ran into issues that made me forget so, instead of the promised focus on poses that I believe I was gonna do, I’ll instead post up a picture that I did draw last week and had posted on my non-art blog @vaseshipghost .

All done because I was feeling spiteful toward a certain person and their inability to draw.

Here it is!

I won’t go into details about what prompted this particular drawing. All I’ll say is, the name in question that made me do this rhymes with Pen Blenders, and leave it at that.

Saturday post time!

I set myself the challenge to try and do exercises this whole month in order to improve my art even a little. So far I’ve been sticking to that. This week’s post is all about hands!

Once again I decided to use pen so that if I made a mistake, I stuck with it and tried to make it work. As you can see, one of the drawings clearly got changed due to how I didn’t like how the thumb was placed on it. And I’m showing it anyway to show that I’m serious about making progress on my art. I will get better at this.

Next week, I’m gonna try more of a body pose. Just in general, not sure what. I’m still winging this as I go along as you can see, but I am committed!

A late happy new year to everyone! And also it’s Saturday Post time!!!

I’ve got a big one this round. Rather than focus on one character, I decided to do something different and focus on experimenting a littlg. Using only a pen, I draw up several different eye designs just to see what I could make from only memory, no reference, and no way to erase a mistake.

Some of these designs make look familiar. A couple of these are from actual characters I’ve made, whether they are OCs or FCs I won’t yet tell.

I’m happy with how they turned out regardless and am excited by the prospects that 2025 could bring me creatively. I only hope I don’t jinx myself by saying that.

You’ll also notice that there are no dates on these. I honestly did these over the course of a few days and when I was at work so didn’t have any time to properly date them.

A bit late, cause I genuinely forgot it was Saturday, but here it is, the last Saturday Post of 2024! Whooooo!!!!

I’ve gotten into Danganronpa as of late and had already doodled up fan characters before and decided to challenge myself by trying to mimic the artstyle as close as I could. Was tricky, as you can see some elements of my usual art style leaked through by I’m pretty happy with the results! And I can always try again!

You can also see that this is a Christmas Eve drawing so…wait does that even count when Christmas is already over? Oh well.

And that’s about it! Man, 2024 was a year. But I’m still happy to have made it through my first year posting here regularly. Been some ups and some pretty heavy downs but I’m glad to be here.

And I’m glad to anyone who is following for sticking around. Thanks. You guys do mean a lot.

Maybe next year I’ll upgrade to opening up my askbox for questions. Maybe. We’ll see.

Saturday post time!

As promised, here they are! The Avalon sisters’ slightly updated looks.

I’m happy with the coloring and full body looks for both of them. Arcana’s hair is meant to look either blue or purple depending on how the lighting hits it. Blues and purples really are her main colors

I almost tried to out Lupa’s wolf form in the left corner of her drawing if you can see the erased outlines of my attempts, but I feel like I need to do an entirely separate drawing for that, so for now it’s up to imagination until I do put it to paper. Pinks suit her best.

Look closely enough and you’ll see that Arcana’s collar is the same purplish pink as Lupa’s shirt, though it may be lost because of how the filter I used to brighten the image didn’t do a good job to tell it apart from Arcana’s skin tone. I’m still okay with it for the most part.

Anyways, that’s it.

I might try to make a late holiday themed drawing next week but we’ll see.

Saturday Post time!

Instead of a new drawing, I’m gonna give a sneak peek of sorts for one I’m in the process of REDRAWING.

This is an older drawing as you can see by the year, and it’s about a pair of sisters I made.

Arcana and Lupa Avalon, a traveling duo of sisters who go through other worlds and are just trying to find a home for themselves.

Arcana is a witch and Lupa is a werewolf, hence her tail and ears.

There is lore for their original home world and for Arcana specifically and where she comes from, but the reason I’m posting this today is because I’m giving a minor update for these two. I already sketched up Arcana’s solo page but I need to finish up Lupa, so it’ll probably be next week when I post those.

I’m not gonna say if they’re original characters or fan characters just yet. That’s for another day.

Delayed Saturday post is here!

I decided to post an in progress work to show that I am indeed doing something.

I call her “Vague Ariel-type” on account of her hair style, but she has no name until I think of something. Or maybe she won’t ever. Depends on if I like her enough to give her one.

Either way, the post is here and I am still tired from yesterday, so this is it then.

I’ll clean her up on next Saturday, promise.

This one is an older drawing I did as you can see by the date at the bottom. It was also the first drawing I did in a brand new sketchbook, which also coincides with when I decided to stop titling my drawings for…I don’t remember why but clearly I don’t plan on going back.

Like with Jackson from last week, I’ll give this one a bit of a polish and try to come up with a name and backstory for her. I was honestly just trying to make an interesting outfit.

Saturday post time!

Lost track of time cause I was marathoning the last three episodes of season 2 of Arcane with my sibling, LOVED IT btw, but I consider it worth it!

Anyways, here’s the weekly promised sketch!

I cleaned up my Jackson sketch from last week, redid his shoes to some comfy loafers since that’s what he prefers when he’s not on the clock despite not being practical for his profession as a for hire scarecrow (he switches to a pair of boots when he’s actually on the job. He only has the one pair so far), and gave him a color scheme for him. He prefers blues, browns, and greens but the hat is his one pop of extra color meant to complement his head and yes, is a minor reference to Luffy from One Piece, baring the feather.

That’s about it for this week. I’ll try to make something a bit more special for next Saturday.

After a bit of a hiatus, unintentionally extended, I return for my Saturday posts!

And this one is an in progress sketch!

Hope y’all missed this fellow cause I had fun drawing him up again!

And yes, I did say in progress. I will be refining and coloring this one so that way I can get a clear idea of what his base design is. Might even revisit the first drawing of him I posted and extend that one.

Initially I was gonna give him l curled toes on his shoes but I decided I didn’t like it so I ended up getting rid of those… I definitely clean up the eraser marks better next week.

Well I had plans for drawing something up, but was gonna put it off until 11/6. And then…uhhh…yeah I’m sure you can guess what happened.

I need another week, to be honest. So yet another postponement.

At the very least I do have an idea of what I want to do. It’ll feature the return of one of my previously seen OCs so look forward to that!
