The greatest gift I've received from learning to paint is finding joy in light, colour, texture. Little things that hook in my sight and make my eyes linger. Through a painter's gaze, the gleam of sun on shards of broken beer bottles scattered in grass, the filmy gray blue of age tarnished mirrors, the soft guava pink of my cat's ears, the lavender and purple hollows under eyes and hidden in lips, the tightly furled bud of a nipple...they're all breathtaking. I feel like a child looking at the world again. My, how lovely everything is.
