Hello guys,
I know I have been absent from here for over half a year. I got a very busy freelance job (I had to move ca 10 hours away) before Christmas last year and they just prolonged my contract month after month, which was very good for me (income).
But now I am back, and here is my latest finished commission!
Pointer dog, made from supersculpey polymer clay, painted with acrylics. The base is made with hot glue, rocks, silver foil, fabric etc.
About 15 cm tall. Took me about 2 weeks.
Lots of fun! Hope you enjoy it!
By the way, I heard about a sculpey type (premo?) that stays flexible after baking, does anyone know how working with it is compared to supersculpey?

Some bird heads I painted for a student back at my old university where I studied animation. These heads are for a stop motion movie, they get attached to a body and have beads inserted for eyes. They also all have 9 beaks each for different mouth expressions. I had a lot of fun working on these, and now I know the details of the face of each bird I studied! All the heads and beaks were 3D printed with a printer and the paint used were acrylics

A little moomin themed post! A drawing I made for the beautiful fall month of october. And a sculpture of moominpappa I sold at Dragoncon in Ålesund earlier this month. Making such a round sculpture was trying for me as I havent developed a way to sand my sculptures yet. But I actually felt quite pleased with him. Sculpture is made of wire armature, super sculpey polymer clay and painted with acrylics.

Decided to make some crossover sculptures for dragecon in Norway. There's Pumpkinsaur (bulbasaur and pumpkin), Squirtletroopa (squirtle and koopatroopa) and Charmaloo (charmander and valoo)! 🎃 🌋💧 I do not enjoy making smaller "fast" ones as much as bigger detailed ones. Luckily I have a big dog to finish ^^ And amaterasu. Had to stop working with her for a while due to her not being intended for the con! (As always, these are made of supersculpey polymer clay)

I was experimenting with the flames from the weapon. At first they came out too cloudy so the second try had a more fiery feeling to it. I will now sleep and see if I am pleased with fresh eyes!

You mentioned in one of the previous asks that there are so many tutorials out there, could you recommend some of them- or some people? As a beginner, I find it rather difficult to know who is good.
Yeah, I have learned from (mostly youtube): SugarCharmShop (learned so much about tools, techniques, materials from her), EmilySculpts, Spiderzero (this guy is amazing), Mankej, BlueRasberryCharms, Legion Of THe Cow, Dollightful (love to watch custom dolls too, learn about materials etc), Sculpture_Geek, Stan Winston School. On instagram (many are for inspiration): marknewmansculpture, octoplum, creativebeaststudio, sahasa.artist, studio_aki, mijbilcreatures (miniatures), pokestudios, ellenjewett (HOLY SHIT YOU ALL NEED TO SEE HER SCULPTURES), beastvoodoo, lisatoms_dolls, escaronsimaginarium, nicosculpt, shiflettbros, dominicqwek
I probably forgot many but these are some, not everyone posts tutorials but many post materials, techniques, where to get stuff etc. Hope this was helpful!

youre opening commissions soon? do you have any idea on pricing yet? how much would something like your vaporeon cost? (love ur stuff btw)
yeah I think I will. the only thing stopping stopping me so far is my ability to estimate prices. I sold vaporeon for 58 dollars, not including shipping. I took the amount of time spent on it and tried to justify it. I have a few other “local” commissions to finish first and hopefully then I will know how to price my stuff. It’s very difficult!

Would you sell the articuno statue?
I would like to, but it would break during transport, I am pretty sure of it. The only way I could sell it would be to give it to my buyer personally so they can transport it safely. I might try to sell it on a con in Norway in the future

How do you attach the sculpture to the base? Can you cook the base in the oven and if not how do you keep the sculpture upright while baking?
I poke holes in the base and attach the armature. You can cook the base, wood won’t burn on the temperature sculpey is baked.  It keeps itself upright with the help of the armature, But sometimes I make stands for my sculpts from tin foil/silver foil. Hope this was helpful!

Do you use annealed steel wire? If so, have you ever had issues arise from it rusting inside the clay?
Yeah I use it. I haven’t had any issues with it so far so I doubt that is a problem. I have several old sculptures made with this wire and they seem fine and look fine. If I notice anything I will make sure to post about it!

Hi!! Your work is amazing! I just bought some Super Scupley clay because of your recommendation! Any tips for a complete beginner? I can't wait to see your Okami sculpt finished, it's one of my favorite games :)
Hey there, thank you!hmm tips...let’s see. Make your armature and attach it to a wooden base or leave some of the wire/armature outside of your main sculpt so you have something to hold on to as you work instead of your sculpture. This way you wont accidentally ruin any details and it gets so much easier to work with. When you are done you can remove the excess wire/wooden base if you want (make sure the sculpture is removable from the base/ the holes for the wire aren’t too tight, if this makes sense). other than that, just watch tutorials online, there are so many good ones! I watch new ones almost daily and there is so much to learn from all the skilled people out there. Hope this was a little helpful! :D

how do u attach your armatures to wood bases?
I poke/drill a hole into the base. I use a sharp nail that I push into the base as far as I want it, then I pull it out with pliers etc.

i LOVE your work!!! Can/do you bake the clay attached to a wooden base? Do you lower the temp and bake for longer?
Thank you! I do bake them with the wooden base. Polymer clay bakes at a low enough temperature so the wood won't burn or anything. But I did invest in a heat gun (it's like a terrifying blow dryer haha). Using a heat gun will let you bake the sculpture bit by bit and outside the oven so you don't have to worry about anything. But it does take some practice, I burned the first sculpture I used it on. But very useful!
