I am Layla, a 17 year old student from Mussoorie currently studying at Woodstock International School. I've been inactive recently as I was busy with my A level exams and my household situation. Recently, due to my father getting unemployed (3 months ago), our family has been going through a really tough time. I in my school am on scolarship and much of my tution fee gets waived off but recently our condition has worsened and my parents are in a lot of mental stress as our school fees (me and my 2 other siblings) is a major part of our family's monthly expense. If you think I’m talking a lot about MI8 now, just you wait until I can see it at home and analyse everything shot.

Because I think this is a story all about the masks we wear, and hidden stories and also as much about Benji as Ethan.

And I think it’s really important that Benji’s first appearance is as a voice recognising and explaining the entity right from his first appearance but Ethan’s first appearance is silent.

That Ethan’s face is often hidden but Benji’s face is not only open and seen but he is incapable of lying to Donloe (the only person he lies to really is Ethan, when he tells him to go)

And that the first true and open emotion we see from Ethan is at the end, following a Benji that for the first time, we can’t see.

I think it’s as much about them as the entity

Ethan’s true motivations and feelings are hidden until he sees Benji at the end and he becomes part of Benji’s story instead of Benji being a part of his story

While rewriting Mission Impossible made me in a big Jane and Ilsa shipper. But now Jane has become one of my little guys, and I've retraumatized her due to Ilsa.

For Ilsa's death scene, I want Jane to get there far before Ethan. Having to see the love of her life die in her arms again. This does lend a hand on someone else wanting Gabriel dead in MI7.

I do intend on giving Ilsa and Jane chemistry during MI6. Filling in the gaps, considering I'm pulling a MI4 Luther and keeping Jane for the ending scene of MI5.

I've been writing tons of rants/rambles to my chats, but none of my friends really know Mission Impossible much. So I am just gonna make a masterpost of all of them here. They wont be separate posts, all just reblogged on top of this one. If anyone's interested you might wanna hit the bell for this post.

Kind of posting them in order of when I wrote them too. Starting with this one:

When we get from Ghost Protocal to Rogue Nation, there's a divot in time. Which I've mentioned being apart of the characters.

My thing is the quick change in dynamic from GP to RN. As Ethan wasn't too friendly nor as protective in GP compared to RN & up.

Ethan genuinely gets crazy when trying to get Benji back during Rogue Nation. As well as the fact that he explicitly said hes afraid he cant protect Benji out there. But hes never been like that with any other person hes worked with, hell even Luther! And hes known Luther since the beginning.

I feel its a bit because he saw Benji grow from lab tech to field agent. But also their typically connection is another thing. Benji is the main person that is utilized as hostage. Yes, Grace is hostage during Final Reckoning but he doesn't freak out as bad compared to when Benji is in danger.

This can be noted with both Julia and Benji. Ethan has a literal eye twitch moment while going over the plan in MI3, while in MI5 does go a bit nuts with the "Can't you see it?" At Brandt.

And Benji isn't just "the guy in the chair". Thats immediately noted in GP, when he mentions he passed his field test. Furthermore, in RN, as he complains about being in the back on the monitor. As well as, when he yells at Ethan for trying to keep Benji away from danger.

the problem of fandom reducing characters who are women and/or people of colour to sexist/racist stereotypes is definitely aggravated by the fact that a lot of fans simply do not pay very much attention to these characters in the first place then subconsciously paper over the gaps in their perception with things they’ve been culturally conditioned to believe are true about people in the same category as said character
