Parts of a Nagara Shaili “Shikhara”
The Shikhara in the picture is a Latina Class of Shikhara from Lakshmana Temple Khajuraho.
1) Rajasenaka: Ghata Pallava (Pot & Flower) – representing Purna Kalasa
2) Karna Srunga: Since looks like a Horn (Srunga) raising tall at the Corner (Karna)
3) Ura Srunga: Horn (Srunga) on the chest (Ura)
4) Mula Srunga: Original (Mula) horn (Srunga) like Structure
5) Tilaka: Like a mark on the forehead
6) Rathika: Like the front of a Chariot
7) Udayata Singha: A Simha above Sukanasi (Nose like a Parrot – structure above Antarala)
8) Karnandaka: Amalakas in the corners at lower levels of the Shikhara
9) Skandha: Shoulder
10) Griva: Neck
11) Amalaka: Ribbed structure representing the Sun or Lotus
12) Chandrika: Round moon shaped plate
13) Amalasaraka: Amalaka shaped fluted disc above Chandrika
14) Kalasa: Water pot for the generation of life
15) Bijapuraka: Seed of life
