Your post about c.ai is exactly how I feel and I just set a timer for my app in hopes of starting to quit using it. I've already been working on using it less and have started to only allow myself to use it at night but I'm still using it for far too long. I feel so embarrassed about it but I'm working on it.

hey, thats amazing!!!! im proud of you for even trying to quit!! most people would just shrug it off and treat it as less of a problem than it is, so the fact that you're putting in the effort to cut your use of it is amazing!!! quitting an addiction (yes, im calling using c.ai an addiction, because it is) is different for everyone, and for some, it may take longer than others. and thats completely okay!! Also, you have absolutely nothing to feel embarrassed about. there are so many people in the world right now that use some form of ai, whether its to cheat on tests, write their essays, or talk to fictional characters. its just unfortunately become a part of life in the past few years. but as long as youre working on using it less and less, thats all that matters!!

Oldest one I can think of is My Little Pony (G4)

My current fandom is the David Tennant fandom. Not one particular DT work, just David in general lol.

Mlp had a character named Doctor Hooves, which was a nod to Doctor Who, and I may be wrong, but I’m pretty sure David had a small, supporting role in Doctor Who, correct me if I’m wrong.

Tumblr was the first place I tried out using "Rachel" as my preferred name, and it just made me realize how much more I like it!!! Even if you don't come out to people outside of social media, it doesn't make how you identify any less real!!

Probably no one will see/use this, but I have decided I want to try something new and will be trying out it/its pronouns on Tumblr. I doubt anyone will use them since the limited people I interact with have no reason to refer to me when I am not there, but I am pretty sure people "in the real world" would not understand/use them so I figured a "trial run" would be nice to see if I am ready to throw my life into upheaval.

If you want to still use she/her it's all good - that's what I'm currently using outside of the online world, and I don't actually hate them. But of you are willing to use it/its I would greatly appreciate it, so i could "try them on"

Also, if it/its are a part of your pronoun set and you don't mind sharing your experience, please let me know! I've never met anyone who uses them, and would love to hear about your experiences.

How I (personally) quit Character AI

As a heavy maladaptive daydreamer with only a few friends, (who I love very dearly) c.ai seemed like heaven on earth to me when I first discovered it. I could talk to, and create exciting scenarios with my comfort characters, all from the comfort of my own bed, without having to actually interact with anyone. Social anxiety go brrrrrrr. When I first started using c.ai, I was already aware (to an extent) of the fact that ai was bad, but in my mind, it was more so, "Oh, as long as you dont post it, and claim that its yours, it should be fine." So, I knew it was bad, but I had no idea how ai worked, or how much energy it wasted, nor the fact that the only reason it became a thing was because it stole from real artists and writers. So, I had no problem wasting away on c.ai, because as long as I didn't turn it into an essay or a fan fiction, all was well, right? And I never used Chat GPT to write any of my school essays, or create ideas for my artwork, so it was fine, and I wasn't harming anything, right?? Then, after a while, I learned more and more about how ai is not only damaging to the environment, but also to human beings and the way we think and use our brains. It was a fact that was a bit hard for me to chew on, because using c.ai had almost become a daily activity for me.

At first, when I decided I needed to quit, I thought I should go in and completely delete all of my chats (which I would have done, if there weren't so many long ass chats to delete🥲. These chats had LORE istg.) Well, that quickly became too much of a hassle, so I began limiting my c.ai time to one hour a day, then half an hour, then 15 minutes. Then, I had the idea (idk why I didnt have the idea before, but oh well) to completely log out of c.ai, and then tell myself that every time I take the time out of my day to log back in, I have to do some type of chore around the house for the amount of time I spent on c.ai. So, for example, if I ended up spending half an hour chatting with bots, I had to completely log back out and do dishes, or clean my room for a half an hour. Eventually, my brain started connecting using c.ai with work and chores, and I eventually burned myself out of using it, and every time I see the log in screen, I just immediately exit out of it because I know that it just means ill have to do some work later.

Also, for some tough love: I also told myself that every time I made a chat, I'd be burning up valuable water and energy for people who need it more than me, and that other people's health and safety is far more important than my fantasies.

Anyways, this is what worked for me, I'm not saying it'll work for EVERYONE, but I guess I just wanted to let people know that you dont need AI to have an exciting life when there are real people, either online or in person, who will make it exciting for you <3
