We all have heard the tale of Alfred being a former special-forces bad-ass before leaving old London town to be employed by the Wayne family in Gotham. Now we actually will get to see Alfred's beginnings in the 1960s, too cool. Without Alfred, Bruce Wayne/Batman would be up sh*t's creek without a paddle many a time. It's nice to see old Alfred is finally getting his due time in the spotlight. I loved Alfred from the show "Gotham" and just about every incarnation of the character so I am more than up to check this series out.<br> <br> Here is the teaser for DC and EPIX's "PENNYWORTH" show.<br> <br> "PENNYWORTH" stars Hainsley Lloyd Bennett ("Eastenders," "Catastrophe," "King of Crime," and "Kingdom of Evan"), Ben Aldridge ("Our Girl," "Fleabag," and "Toast") as Thomas Wayne, Dorothy Atkinson ("Mr. Turner," "Topsy Turvey," and HULU's "Harlots") and Jack Bannon ("The Imitation Game," "Fury," "Kids In Love" and "Endeavour") as Alfred Pennyworth. <br> The "PENNYWORTH" series is written by Bruno Heller ("Rome," "The Mentalist," "Pax," and "Gotham") and directed by Danny Cannon (1995's "Judge Dredd," "Phoenix," "CSI: Crime Scene Investigations," and "Gotham"). It is nice to see DC utilizing the talent that truly worked for their show "Gotham" the writing and directing on that show was truly impressive. I have to say the video captures Savage's love for the show as well as what its been like working as the "A" camera operator what they call the "dragon unit" since 2010 and the trials, tribulations, and triumphs that occurred over the years. (I would like to add that Mr. Savage has an incredibly beautifully smooth voice, his voice could make reading Ikea instructions enjoyable.) The video is an enlightening 3 minutes, and 27-seconds look behind the man behind the camera on one of the worlds most popular television series. <br> Watch the video HBO is calling "Inside the Game of Thrones: A Story in Camera Work." <br> <br> Next up is another behind the scenes gander at Game of Thrones this time its an intimate look at stunt coordinator Rowley Irlam. Irlam describes the challenges that go into choreographing "dynamic frames of action" aka really kick-ass and believable action/fight scenes as well as talking about some of the tools to his dangerous trade. At one point Rowley Irlam lovingly and kind of maniacally says "We've burned more people than anyone else basically" we also learn the importance of having what they call a choreographed "fire dance" which is hilarious and very practical. The trailer was a little lackluster for the story at hand. I love Mara Rooney (THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO/2011). Joaquin Phoenix (GLADIATOR) always grabs my attention no matter what he’s in. Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 YEARS A SLAVE) is a fantastic actor. There’s a lot going for this, besides it’s one of the oldest stories around. <br> MARY MAGDALENE follows Mary’s story. Mary was a prostitute that has great significance once she found salvation at Jesus’ feet. She was there when the Roman’s nailed Jesus to the cross. If memory serves, she’s also the first to hear Jesus speak after his resurrection.<br> <br> I’m a bit afraid the movie ends up more about Jesus. The trailer definitely comes across that way. Enzo was the leader of the real life gang from Ohio that completed the successful heist. The interview was via phone and we had to have the worst possible connection. While transcribing, I lost two questions and answers and a lot of add-ons that Bill was kind enough to share. The first, and largest image, is FULL of new looks at previous characters, and first looks at some new ones! We get our first look at (the VERY cool costume of) Zorii, portrayed by Keri Russell, as well as (reportedly) Lando Calrissian's daughter, Zannah, played by Naomi Ackie, a Resistance officer played by Dominic Monaghan, a First Order officer played by Richard E. Grant and a troop of red stormtroopers (their helmets blending elements from the clone trooper helmets and the stormtrooper helmets from both the original and sequel trilogies). Also of note is Kylo Ren's re-forged helmet, bearing the marks of having previously been smashed to bits by him in STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI. The broken/repaired look adds menace to the sleek helmet he's work through the previous two chapters of the sequel trilogy.<br> <br> It also gives us what is simultaneously a cool and foreboding image: C-3PO is wearing Chewbacca's bandolier and wielding his bowcaster. I don't want to speculate, but I don't like the idea I get when I wonder why he would be sporting Chewie's battle gear. <br> <br> The Knights Of Ren are also prominently featured on the poster, indicating that we may finally see them in action for more than a brief flashback, and hopefully, get the story on them! <br> <br> <br> <br> <br> <br> <br> We also get a look at several costume</p> <p><a href="https://ift.tt/2U65sXb the article on AICN</b></a></p> Benny NoGoodWed, 27 Mar 2019 18:52:00 +000081943The Princess Bride Musical In Development at Disneyhttps://ift.tt/2utyr7W<p>Insanity ensues...</p> <p><a href="https://ift.tt/2U65tKJ the full article on AICN</b></a></p> <p>THE PRINCESS BRIDE holds a sacred place in the hearts of movie fans around the world. William Goldman's timeless fairy tale about "twue" love, noble quests, redemption, and the triumph of goodness and decency over evil and indecency has endeared itself to generations of readers and film fans since it's publication in 1973, and much more so since the release of the perfectly executed, instant-classic 1987 Rob Reiner masterpiece. It is, without question, one of the best movies ever made. The story is perfect, the characters are perfect, the portrayals by the actors are perfect... it's just... perfect. I don't know if it shows, but I'm a fan. A HUGE fan. Years ago, when my girlfriend and I started dating, this was the VERY FIRST film we watched together. <br> <br> <br> <br> via GIPHY<br> <br> My own fanboy enthusiasm for THE PRINCESS BRIDE aside, it is, to many, an untouchable film. In musician circles, there are certain songs you don't record covers of and change, because they can't be improved upon... Stairway To Heaven, Bohemian Rhapsody... you just don't. That's what this is. THE PRINCESS BRIDE is the Stairway To Heaven of movies. It should never, EVER, be recast and remade. That being said...<br> a musical adaptation for stage? I AM HERE FOR IT.<br> <br> <br> <br> via GIPHY<br> This story lends itself SO well to a musical stage format that it practically BEGS to be done. In fact, prior to his death, the late William Goldman was working to make that very thing happen, as early as 2006.</p> <p><a href="https://ift.tt/2FIRK2u the article on AICN</b></a></p> Benny NoGoodWed, 27 Mar 2019 18:38:00 +000081942There's no escaping the BLACK MASShttps://ift.tt/2UdxKhp<p>There's no escaping the BLACK MASS</p> <p><a href="https://ift.tt/2FIRKj0 the full article on AICN</b></a></p> <p>Ken with information on a new short film by Scott Lyus, titled BLACK MASS.<br> <br> In less than three weeks it has blown by its Kickstarter goals. Let’s help it elongate their stretch goals. Check it out, all you need to know (Press release/teaser trailer/offers/etc.) is a click away here.<br> So what is BLACK MASS? Here’s Scott in his own words. <br> Black Mass is a film that is born out of my own personal battle with depression and the depths it has taken me to. For me, it has been the darkest and scariest period of my life, and while it’s a battle I still suffer with, it’s something I’m ready to be open about and help shine a light on. The story is a passionate take on a very tough subject and I don’t want to shy away from or sugarcoat what people with depression go through and horror is the perfect genre to explore that story. I promise Black Mass will be the scariest and darkest film I have ever made.<br> The premise follows two adopted daughters and their bereaved father who are haunted by a demonic presence.<br> It’s backed by a cast of Johnny Vivash, Charlie Bond and Sophie Eleni to help pull it off.<br> Scott Lyus (ECHOES OF THE PASSED) and Chris Nials (HANGING WITH) are producing. Neal Parsons (A SILENT CHILD) will be Director of Photography. Mitch Bain will handle the score and Ryan J. Thompson (THE BIRCH) handles the VFX.<br> I really love this concept and all the players. I am happy to report that all four of us got teary-eyed for various reasons. For my man and son, it was the moment that Dumbo takes flight, for Madame and I, it was a prolonged tearful experience due to Danny Elfman's exquisite score. <br> <br> Visually "Dumbo" is a majestic experience. Ben Davis' ("Captain Marvel," "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri," "Doctor Strange," "Avengers Age of Ultron," "Guardians of the Galaxy," and "Kick-Ass") masterful cinematography combined with Burton going balls to the wall circus crazy and Elfman's music indeed is enough alone to justify forking over some cash to see. When Elfman's 'Casey Junior' theme fills the air, it is truly a magical movie moment. The elements of Jazz sprinkled throughout the music and scenery are a beautiful nod to the beginning of the roaring '20s. Danny Elfman, I love you.<br> <br> The storyline behind 2019's "DUMBO" is a continuation of Dumbo's tale set in 1919, not a remake. We get to see what happened after he took flight into circus stardom and we observe what becomes of his mother Mrs. Jumbo as well as the rest of the Medici Brother's Circus. Getting to know some of the sideshow performers, was pretty cool. Johan Renck is directing "CHERNOBYL" some of you may know him from his work on television shows such as "Breaking Bad," "The Walking Dead," "Vikings," "Bates Motel," and "The Last Panthers." I have to say the video captures Savage's love for the show as well as what its been like working as the "A" camera operator what they call the "dragon unit" since 2010 and the trials, tribulations, and triumphs that occurred over the years. The story is perfect, the characters are perfect, the portrayals by the actors are perfect... it's just... perfect. Some of my favorite characters on the sidelines were the strong man (of many talents), the mermaid (was quite awesome and gives a haunting rendition of "Baby Mine"), the</p> <p><a href="https://ift.tt/2FFAWsO the article on AICN</b></a></p> Pekosa PeligrosaWed, 27 Mar 2019 05:17:00 +000081938Marvel Studios Drops HUGE Poster Set For "AVENGERS ENDGAME" One-Sheet Collectors Face Biggest Challehttps://ift.tt/2FpnHfK<p>Click now! The film looks like it is embracing a lot from the 1988 Tom Hank's hit "Big" and I am sure that audiences will be delighted by this. However, the hardcore comic fans I know are not even remotely delighted in some of the characters naivety and lack of a moral compass. Many of them absolutely hate Batson transforming, getting the beer, and hitting on that lady outside of the convenience store. I am hoping that there is a balance of humor and that they do not ignore the source material that made this character one of the most beloved comic franchises in existence. Hola Dannie aqui, Today I received an email from Don Handfield a screenwriter, filmmaker, producer, and comic book creator. Handfield is the co-creator of Knightfall, Season 2 of which just premiered on History Channel and he also produced "The Founder" that stars Michael Keaton. Handlefield's first comic The Rift was optioned by Steven Spielberg/Amblin and shot as one of the episodes of the "Amazing Stories" reboot on Apple TV+. Handfield's proudest accomplishment by far is as a parent. He doesn't think there is enough family-friendly entertainment in the world, which is why he partnered with his good friend and fellow screenwriter turned parent Joshua Malkin (Cabin Fever 2) to create "UNIKORN." "UNIKORN" is a family-friendly graphic novel about a little girl named Maeve who inherits an old horse with a strange bump on its forehead which makes her believe it's a Unicorn. A 'Unikorn' (with a K) is a unicorn who has had its horn removed to keep it safe from those who would harm it -- much like conservationists today remove the horns from rhinos to protect them from poachers. "UNIKORN" also addresses some of the challenging themes that Handfield and Malkin's families have been processing in recent years -- namely losing parents and loved ones. This book is Handfield and Malkin's way of shedding light in the darkness and reminding young and old alike that you never have to let go of the ones you love, and you never have to stop believing in magic, no matter how old you get. Doug Liman boards UNEARTHED, a tale described as "Indiana Jones In Space!"
This is a story of scholars trying to save a dying earth in a race to the remains of an alien civilization against a team of cut-throat scavengers.
Read the full article on AICN
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Doug Liman has lined up his next project, according to THR. It'll be a sci-fi adventure film called UNEARTHED, based on an upcoming Young Adult novel of the same name by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner. The story takes place in a bit of a fucked future as the Earth is dying due to environmental damage. A message from an alien race promises a solution to reversing this damage and gives the location of the planet that this mysterious solution resides on. It's a race as scholars and scavengers try to get there first. Naturally there's a question as to whether or not this alien message is pure-hearted and it's down to a shaky alliance between a scholar and a scavenger to find out the real truth behind it all. The THR story describes the aim to achieve a kind of Indiana Jones/Tomb Raider in space vibe. The book doesn't come out until next January, but it was already optioned last year by Cross Creek who has now partnered with Columbia Pictures and attached Doug Liman (who just did American Made with Tom Cruise for Cross Creek) as director. It's still early in development for this one, but Liman has shown a talent for female badassses in sci-fi settings, so I'm down. Hey folks, Harry here... Superhero movies aren't going anywhere - they're just going to continue to evolve and change. Marvel & DC have their awesome titles, but there's so much material to play with out there - that the cool filmmakers that don't want to fit into a specified pre-existing universe, like Seth Rogen & Evan Goldberg... who definitely dance to their own demented drummer.... well they just optioned Robert Kirkman's INVINCIBLE! The INVINCIBLE comic series was coming to a close this year, at least according to Kirkman, but I now wonder if those plans will change if Seth & Evan are making a movie with Kirkman. I've not read any issues of this comic, so I'm not gonna be real helpful. A quick bit of reading tells me it looks violent as hell, has a father / son superhero scenario of some kind - but ya know. I think I'll just let this one hit me without knowing much at all. If Seth & Evan are keen to bring it to life... after PREACHER, I'm on board. Film is going to be developed for UNIVERSAL. Keep it cool, Harry

Dimension dropped the remake ball on MAN FROM NOWHERE remake, NEW LINE runs with it!
It's hard to remake a Great film because... you probably shouldn't.
Read the full article on AICN
Hey folks, Harry here... It was September 23rd, 2010 when I first saw the electrifying South Korean film, THE MAN FROM NOWHERE at Fantastic Fest at its North American Premiere. Jeong-Beom Lee wrote and directed this film which just knocked me out. Hell it knocked all of us at AICN out. Then it got announced that DIMENSION FILMS was set on doing an English language remake. Dimension couldn't crack it, so the rights reverted back to it's original company, who just had them optioned by NEW LINE. The studio behind SE7EN is definitely where this remake should be given a try. No word on writing teams or a director or cast. I just hope they plan on bringing a real quality team of people to make this. OR leave it alone. The original MAN FROM NOWHERE is a great flick! If you haven't seen it, it's currently on NETFLIX and is riveting. Really, that's the reason I picked this story up, any excuse to push this film, it is beloved! Keep it cool - and check it out on Netflix if you haven't! Harry

Capone intrudes on the life and work of THE MEDDLER writer-director Lorene Scafaria
Capone intrudes on the life and work of THE MEDDLER writer-director Lorene Scafaria
Read the full article on AICN
Hey everyone. Capone in Chicago here. Lorene Scafaria has had an interesting history as a Hollywood screenwriter. After spending years toiling away on various screenplays, several of which were optioned (including the near-legendary and unmade MIGHTY FLYNN), her sweet, musically based romance NICK AND NORAH'S INFINITE PLAYLIST was produced in 2008. During her quieter times, she dabbled in acting and singing (a song of hers is featured in the Drew Barrymore film WHIP IT). In 2012, Scafaria directed her first feature, the touching, end-of-the-world romantic-drama SEEKING A FRIEND FOR THE END OF THE WORLD, with Steve Carrell and Keira Knightley. Since then, she’s directed several episodes of “New Girl” and continued work on a screenplay that eventually became THE MEDDLER, a semi-autobiographical story about a screenwriter (played by Rose Bryne) in Los Angeles and her mother (Susan Sarandon), who recently moved from New Jersey to be near her daughter after Sarandon’s husband dies. On the surface, the film is about how interfering parents can be, even if it comes from a place of love and genuine concern. But what THE MEDDLER is really about is how different people grieve differently. It’s sweet, charming, funny and often quite moving as we watch these two navigate each other’s lives. It’s in limited release now, and should be expanding across the country soon. I caught up with Scafaria last week in Chicago, and it was great to catch up with her again four years after SEEKING A FRIEND. In our

Lorenzo Di Bonaventura and Bone Tomahawk's S. Craig Zahler to bring PUPPET MASTER back?!?
Puppet Master looks to cash in on the current Shared Universe trend with some heavy hitter producers including Lorenzo Di Bonaventura at its back.

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with the weirdest news of the day, by far. The latest franchise to jump onto the "shared universe" train is so bizarre that I actually had to check the date and make sure I hadn't time traveled back to April 1st. Remember Puppet Master? The Full Moon DTV series about killer puppets? Well, guess who's looking to make a come back. Lorenzo Di Bonaventura and Calibre Media have optioned the rights and have set Bone Tomahawk's S. Craig Zahler to pen the first movie, titled Puppet Masters: The Littlest Reich, with the intention of doing multiple movies spinning off the different crazy puppet characters. I'm not kidding! They even have a poster for the first movie: The producers promised they're not going to CGI all the puppets and will stick to the visual creepy tone of the all-practical original films. I'm so shocked this is happening I can't tell if it's a good move, a bad move or something crazy in-between. That's a lot of heavy hitters for a franchise that sputtered out about 4 movies ago, but I'm all for a darkly comic killer doll series actually making it to the big screen. What do you folks think? -Eric Vespe”Quint” [email protected] Follow Me On Twitter

Fox options Joe Hill's upcoming plague novel THE FIREMAN!
Fox and Louis Leterrier will team up to bring Joe Hill's latest bit of insanity to the big screen.

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. It must suck being the child of someone super famous, especially when that someone happens to be the best there is at what they do. It's automatically and forever part of your identity. I'm a big fan of Joe Hill's work and even though I'm conscious of looking at his work separately from his father's I find myself still comparing the two. I want to say it's a positive because Hill's stuff reminds me a lot of vintage Stephen King craziness and fantastic character work, but still. That suggests what's good about Hill is his father's influence. If you have read Horns or Heart-Shaped Box you know what I mean and also know that Hill has got the goods. Everything he has written so far (from graphic novel Locke & Key to his last book NOS4A2) has proven his talent as a writer. So, it doesn't surprise me that his work is getting optioned months before release. According to Deadline, his next book The Fireman has been scooped up by Fox and has already landed Louis Leterrier as director. The book doesn't hit shelves until May 17th (pre-order here), but Amazon has a plot description that sounds pretty cool. It's about a mysterious plague that manifests itself as a series of beautiful black and gold patterns on a person's skin. That's not the bad part. The bad part is that anyone who gets that pattern ends up spontaneously erupting in flames. As this plague spreads across the US not only are

This weekend in Chicago is the Dead Walk Fest, a two-day marathon of the best in indie zombie horror films. Stephen King's THE JAUNT Jaunts To The Big Screen!
Get your jaunt to Mars!

Jeremy here... Stephen King's Serling-esque "The Jaunt" is one of the most memorable short stories from the 1985 collection THE SKELETON CREW. A tale of interplanetary teleportation with horrific consequences if experienced sans anaesthesia, it is, like many of King's short stories, the kind of premise one would like to see fleshed out. So it's not a surprise to learn that Brad Pitt's Plan B Pictures has just optioned the yarn - for $1, of course - from King. What will they make of it? That they've in talks with MAMA filmmakers Andy and Barbara Muschetti suggests that they'll retain the story's horrific elements (which you really should read; I'm not spoiling it here), but until a writer is attached, it's hard to say. The Muschettis wrote MAMA with Neil Cross, which, in my opinion, didn't work out that well. Hopefully Plan B will find someone with a stronger sense of narrative than the Muschettis and Cross displayed on their last film.

Hey folks, Harry here... Folks on January 9th of this year that optioned for the "KINGSMAN UPGRADE" wound up getting something they're not likely to forget anytime soon. I mean... just look at this: Now, I know what you're thinking? Has to be a shit film to go through such lengths. Make no bones about it, KINGSMAN: THE SECRET SERVICE was the break out hit of BUTT-NUMB-A-THON 16. The world was going on and on about THE INTERVIEW, which was quite a bit of fun, but KINGSMAN: THE SECRET SERVICE blew everyone away. There is an ecstatic cinematic joy unleashed in this flick. Matthew Vaughn has hit another home run.

Another one of Neil Gaiman's novels is coming to the big screen!
Gaiman's upcoming HANSEL & GRETEL novel has already been optioned for a feature film adaptation...
Read the full article on AICN
Hey Yo, Draven here. Neil Gaiman’s newest graphic novel, HANSEL AND GRETEL doesn’t come out until the end of October, yet according to Variety, it has already been optioned for a feature film. Producer, Juliet Blake has picked up the rights to the upcoming graphic novel with plans of adapting it into a feature film. There is no cast or director attached yet. Variety was able to get some quotes from Gaiman and he sounds thrilled that Blake was the one who picked up the rights to his novel: “For me, retelling Hansel and Gretel was a way of telling an old tale in a way that made it immediate and true, and about us, now. It reminds us of how paper thin civilization really is. It’s about hunger, and about families. I’m thrilled and delighted to be working with Juliet Blake to bring Hansel and Gretel to the world again, and to show people how much this story has to say to us.” So far to me, Gaiman adaptations are batting 100%. I loved both CORALINE and STARDUST so hopefully this continues that trend. Gaiman is an incredible author and his work seems to transition to film pretty well so this is a project that I am looking forward to. Follow me on Twitter here!

Ryan Gosling is going to arrange women into dazzling geometric patterns in a Busby Berkeley biopic!
Ryan Gosling to produce and probably star in a movie based on the life of choreographer/director Busby Berkeley.

Papa Vinyard here, now here's a little somethin' for ya... THR announced that Warner Bros. has optioned Jeffrey Spivak's Buzz: The Life and Art of Busby Berkeley, and are developing it as a starring vehicle for Ryan Gosling. Gosling, hot off his first gig as a director on HOW TO CATCH A MONSTER, may also helm the picture. He may be a tad prettier than the real-life Berkeley but Gosling's involvement would not only help get the picture made, but it would also put a spotlight (no pun intended) on Berkeley's work for a whole new generation. You can't tell me GLEEks and such wouldn't be dazzled by those kaleidoscopic routines. However, Berkeley is obviously a Hollywood legend, and they're going to have to properly pay homage to the man and his work if they really want this project to sing (again, not intended), including faithfully reproducing some of his more famous numbers from movies like 42ND STREET, the GOLD DIGGERS series, and THE GANG'S ALL HERE. If Gosling the director has got the chops to execute those complicated setups while turning in a strong lead performance, then they should totally give him the gig. But obviously, a more tested musical director may be on the table in case WB wants to play it a little safer on this one, which, considering who they're depicting, may be the way to go. What do you diehard Berkeley junkies out there think? Does Gosling have what it takes to do the impresario justice? -Vincent Zahedi”Papa Vinyard” [email protected]

Papa Vinyard here, now here's a little somethin' for ya... With four bonafied hits under his belt, it was only a matter of time before JACKASS director Jeff Tremaine branched out and tackled something that didn't involve Johnny Knoxville's nutsack. Well, Deadline has announced that Tremaine will be directing DIRT, based on the autobiography The Dirt: Confessions of the World's Most Notorious Rock Band, collectively written by the band. Says Tremaine: “I’ve been careful to make this a natural progression. I’ve been offered a lot of scripts but DIRT is something I pursued with everything I had. I’ve wanted to make this going back to 2001, when we were just planning the first JACKASS movie and I found out that David Gale at MTV Films had just optioned the book. First of all, I had no idea how to make JACKASS into a movie, but I said to him, let me direct that movie, too. He said, yeah, of course! He was being sarcastic, because he had the same level of confidence in me as a director as I did at that time. Luckily for me, the movie never got made, and when this project became available, I put everything I had into chasing it and convincing everyone that I am the right guy for it. I really feel I am. We were deep into doing Jackass on TV and about to start doing JACKASS: THE MOVIE and we were all passing the book around and going, holy shit! We thought we were being
