His eye brows scrunched together as pieces of hair ticked his face, the eye lids are heavy as they flutter open. The ground is soft under his body, the inches of snow begin to melt under his heat and soak through to his clothes. Blood stains his face and coat, everything is quiet he cant seem to hear anything. His breathing is steady and calm, the cold cloud that leaves his lips disappears into the wind.
His eyes wander and he looks up and he notices two things. One, your body is crouched above him, on your knees you rest next to him hovering very closely to his face. Words are leaving your mouth but he cant hear them just yet, blood is apparent on your fingers as they check every inch of his body. The second thing is, there are snowflakes falling from the sky not just the occasional snowflakes, no these were the thick and heavy ones. They looked so beautiful as they fell into your hair and down into your coat.
Fear was apparent in your eyes but your face remained calm and collected. Some pieces of hair fell down and itched his cheeks and his weak hand shakily rose up to tuck it behind your ear. You grabbed his hand and held it close to your cheeks, in that instant he felt how cold you were and he could feel you shivering under his touch.
Turning your head he heard a muffled cry for help that left your mouth as you called for other doctors. Giving some orders and pointing around to some agents you readjusted yourself while the snow crunched under your weight. Slowly your face lowered down to his own and he felt your thumb wipe sweat from his forehead.
“Hey Dollface.”
He couldn’t hear the words that he weakly whispered to you but he knew for a fact that you heard it for your lip trembled for a moment after he spoke. Sounds were coming in and out of his ears like waves and he could hear boots on the ground along with sirens in the distance. He felt himself cough and began to taste the gross mixture of copper and salvia that filled his mouth.
“Shhhh Shhhh Shhhh.” he saw you whisper. “Everything is alright.”
He could barely hear your voice even though your lips were mere inches from his face, frustrated he tried to speak again but your finger tips found his lips. He saw you gently shake your head no, stopping him from speaking.
“Don’t talk baby.” He read your lips. “Its okay, don’t talk.”
Your hands left his face and the sudden loss of your warm hands sent a shiver down his spine. He watched you stand up and take a few steps back as his body was carefully lifted onto a stretcher by medial staff. Snow flakes fell into his eye lashes and he did his best to blink them away, the temperature was dropping quickly and the night sky was painted in all black.
A foil blanket was thrown over his body, sealing in the heat while he was beginning to be loaded into a Quinjet. His head began to pound and his ears screamed, he couldn’t hear a thing but everything was too loud. Slowly he tilted his head to the side straining to see as your shivering form walking behind the medical workers. The snow was falling even harder now and a gust of wind almost threw you off balance as your legs carried you up the ramp.
Once in the jet he began to feel the warm air from the heaters on his cheeks, the muscles began to relax and slowly he sank into the cot. Doctors surrounded his body and began to cut the wet clothes that clung to his cold skin while examining and cleaning his wounds. Frantically his eyes searched for you, his shaking bloodied hand slipped off the cot and reached out into the air. Gentle fingers immediately intertwined with his own, the doctors backed away slightly as you stepped closer to him. Slowly your face lowered down to his and your hands cupped his cheeks, he could feel your calming pulse on his flesh.
“Shhhh baby, close your eyes. Its okay. Everything is alright.”
He read your lips, he felt your warm breath hit his face as you spoke, but he never heard your voice. Your soft lips hovered over his for a brief moment before placing a gentle kiss on them. His eye lids became heavy and they fluttered shut as he gave your hand one final squeeze and with that the solider fell into a deep sleep.
___
The snow fell carelessly from the sky, the windows of his home were slightly fogged and glistened with the frost clinging to the edges. Picture frames adorned every mantle and shelf along cards and hand made decorations made for this holiday season. The house was full of greens and reds, the lights that hugged the Christmas tree glowed beautifully, while the four stockings above the fire place moved slightly from the force of the flames below.
A small human lay peacefully on his chest, her little arms wrapped around her daddys large muscular torso. Bucky looked down at his sleeping daughter, her mouth slightly agape breathing slowly and steadily. He smiles and grabs the handmade quilt that covers the two of them and pulls it up a bit higher covering her back. His fingers slowly play with her brown curly locks and she sighs out a relaxed puff.
A few moments later you walk into the room carrying your nine month old son George in your arms, he bounces while you sing a catchy Christmas carol. Eleanors eyes flutter open and she is awoken from her nap, she rubs her eyes and throws the blanket off of her while sliding off the couch to join her mother and brother. She skips over to you and begins to grab at her baby brothers feet, the baby begins to laugh as you continue to shuffle around the room dancing to your own tune. Eleanor turns to her father for a moment and holds out her arm making grabby hands at him becoming him to join the fun.
“Daddy! Daddy!” he sees her say.
It was five days before Christmas, he had stupidly taken that assignment thinking that it would be quick and painless. Four bullets ripped out of his skin, two blood transfusions and two perforated eardrums later, would prove him very wrong. He wasn’t expecting a encounter with flash grenades, he was told it would be a quiet recon, but everything hardly ever goes according to plan.
When he woke up in the infirmary he was told his ears would heal in a few days with the help of the super serum. That was a week ago and he still couldn’t hear anything, he hasn’t heard your sweet voice since he was loaded onto the Quinjet. And probably the worst of all, he could hear his children voices. He couldn’t hear his daughter giggling when she was watching morning cartoon or when she called out his name to get his attention. Bucky couldn’t even hear his own sons crying in the night, you had to get up in the middle of the night to feed him. If he had his hearing back he would have gotten up to fetch him instead to let you have your rest.
He was miserable, and although you kept telling him everything was going to be okay and that his ears would heal on their own, each day became more and more frustrating. A wave a guilt washes over him and he feels sick in his stomach, he shouldn’t have taken that assignment so close to the holidays.
Slowly he gets up off the couch and limps over to his family, you meet him half way while you hold out your arm in case he needs it for support. Eleanor begins to jump up on her father and he lifts her up and holds his daughter in her arms while she bounces along to her mothers singing. George begins to giggle when you poke his round tummy and he watches as your eyes squeeze shut and laugh at the chunky baby.
If only he could hear it…
___
For the next couple of days he had to rely on his senses and mouth reading to get though the day. Eleanor was smart for a four year old, she knew her daddy was hurt so she would help him out the best she could. She would help him around their small home, open doors for him, grab him something if he needed it, she even helped put ear drops in his ears. He would reward her each time with a fat kiss and tell her how smart she was and how she was his little nurse.
It was getting closer and closer to Christmas and his anxiety was getting worse by each day. A lingering fear kept creeping into his mind while he watched everyones mouth move with silent words passing him by. He won’t be able to hear his families voices on Christmas morning. This made him feel so sick, he wouldn’t be able to hear his daughter squealing while she tares open her gifts. Or his son trying to grab a fist full of wrapping paper and shove it into his mouth while you playfully scold him nearby.
The family sat at the dinner table that night, it was Christmas eve the children were finishing up their supper. Bucky would watch as you would talk to the children, most of the time he could make out what you were saying but he knew he was missing out on important pieces of the conversation. When everyone was finished you began to collect the plates, taking them over to the sink you started the dishes while Bucky entertained the kids.
Laying on the floor he played with the children for an hour and a half or so until both of them began to slow down. George fell asleep in Bucky’s arms while Eleanor curled up next to her dad with her head propped up on his thigh. Walking over to them you threw the wash towel down onto the counter and kneeled down. Carefully you scooped George up and carried him to his crib, Bucky picked up Eleanor and followed behind you.
Gently he lay his sleeping daughter down into her bed, he grabbed her favorite stuffed animal and placed it in her arms while he tucked her in. He hunched over the bed and began to caress her head tucking some loose strands of hair behind her ear. Bending down he gives his daughter a kiss on the temple and rubs her cheek with his thumb.
“Goodnight baby.” he whispers.
“Goodnight Daddy.” she sleepily whispered back.
He stands up and turns around to see you standing in the doorway leaning on the frame. You give him a smile and he gives you a weak one back as he follows you out back into the kitchen to place the presents under the tree. Bucky hangs his head low and sulks as his feet lead him over to the tree, his eyes wander all over the ordainments.
“Do you want some tea?” he hears you call from the kitchen.
“Yea sure.” he says without turning his head towards you. From the kitchen the drawers open and close with a thunk, the faucet begins to run filling up the old kettle as it is placed onto the burner.
“I just want my hearing back hon.” he speaks softly.
The kettle begins to scream as the water comes to a boil and you quickly take it off of the stove setting it down onto the table. The mug you picked out sits on the marble counter and you pour a few squirts of honey into the mix before pouring the hot water in.
“I want to hear our kids laugh I miss that sound, I miss your voice doll.” He says with some defeat and anger laced in his voice.
“I know.” You smirk while mixing in the honey with a spoon staring at his back.
“I…..” he stops. The sudden realization hits him like a truck. He quickly takes a look around, everything instantly comes back and all at once every little sound hits his ears, and he can hear again. Quiet Christmas music plays softly in the back ground, the train under the tree whistles hello to him and the wind outside howls hello. The ringing in his ears completely stop and the throbbing in his head vanishes, he turns toward you with wide eyes.
“Y/N.” he says. He shivers at his own words, he finally heard his own voice. Better yet, he finally heard your voice.
“Y/N.” he says again, this time a bit louder. His body tenses in fear of it all going away again and his hearing to disappear.
“Hm, what do you know. Looks like you finally got your hearing back.” You smiled with a shit eating grin on your face.
He sprints over to you and picks you up and twirls you around in the air, you laugh and its the most beautiful sound he has heard in weeks. Wrapping your arms around his neck he you hold on tight to him as he sets you back down on the ground not letting you out of his grasp.
“I thought I was never going to get my hearing back.” he buries his face into the crook of your neck. He is on the verge of happy tears and you can feel it so you gently begin to run your hands up and down his back.
“I know, but these things take time to heal remember? You just had to give it time. But you are okay now.” you whisper in his ear. The two of you stay like that for a long time, standing in the kitchen in one anothers embraces. You pull back slightly and your foreheads touch, your breathing is slow as the two of you sway to the soft music in the air.
“Merry Christmas Bucky” you softly say.
“Merry Christmas Y/N” he smiles back.

The air was gray, smoke and dust filed her lungs as she tried desperately to breath, her eyes flung open as tears began to trickle down the cheeks. A high pitched ringing sound pierced the ears causing the head to spin around in circles while the adrenaline made the whole body numb.
Slowly she sat up, her arms shook from weight of her body, her mind racing as she squinted to regain focus. Shattered glass litter the floor, broken lights hung from the ceiling and papers covered the floor in a littered mess. Cracks ran up and down the walls and the floors while debris and pieces of concrete fell from the ceiling above. The orange sun shined though the blasted out windows illuminating the cloud of dust that was slowly falling to the floor.
The explosion was massive, she didn’t have much time to react, she swore she still had a few minutes left. At least, thats what it said on the detonator, that psycho must have been a little too trigger happy. The bomb had been set off too early which had meant the negotiations must had gone south.
Laying on the floor her body was close to an over turned desk, propping herself up on her elbows she rolled slightly and began to cough. Grime and dirt has filled her esophagus, the throat stung and she quickly pulled up her sleeve to cover her mouth from inhaling the particles that filled in the air.
Grabbing onto a chair to support her weight, she unsteadily hoisted herself up. Taking a look around she realized that the damage was so much worse than she had thought. Her mind was spinning and her legs buckled as more tears were building up in her burning eyes.
A muffled voice began to become more demanding as the ringing was dying down in her ears. Looking to the doorway across the room she saw a familiar figure enter through the threshold and out of the shadows.
His face looked dark while he took heavy steps toward her, dirt covered his vest and dust gathered on his roses cheeks. Her eyes roamed his form as he approached closer and closer, he seemed to be unscathed from the explosion and she smirked to herself and let out a breath she didn’t know she was holding.
“Bucky.” she spoke.
“You okay?” he asked as he hurried over to her, making sure to avoid all the broken furniture in his path. Both of his faces instantly reached for her face, grabbing her and pulling her close to him. His metal thumb beginning to brush off the dust on her nose and her cheeks.
“Yea…I think so…you?” her voice was horse and raspy and it made her scrunch up her face in disgust when hearing it.
Letting out an angry sigh his tongue quickly darting out of his mouth to wet his lips as he glanced around the room, an action he did quite often when he was agitated. His hands fell from her face and he took a couple of steps back scanning the room as he clenched his fists.
“I couldn’t get to him. I almost had him. He knew the entire time, he knew I was coming for him so he set it off early.” his voice was angry. His posture became tense as he put his hands on his hips turning away from her, she swallowed before opening her mouth to speak.
“Its not your fault Buck, he played all of us. All that matters is that we evacuated the building and no one got hurt.” she tried to reassure him but it didn’t seem to help him.
“Damn it.” Bucky said though his teeth and kicked a cardboard box that had fallen to the ground. Slowly as the seconds passed her body was beginning to burn and she wiped her forehead with the back of her hand.
“Bucky, lets get out of here.” she said weakly spoke as the body turned toward the door.
“Hey!” She hears him blurt out in fear. “Stop!” Shuffling quickly over to her, he grabs her shoulders and whips her around so that she now faces him.
“What?” she asks concern laced in her tone.
With one arm he keeps her body steady while the other reaches down to the side of her jacket and pulls on the fabric. She watches as his eyes widen while his body inches toward her, his fingers begin to dig harder in her shoulder. Squinting her eyes in confusion she finally looks down to her torso to see large pieces of glass sticking out of her stomach.
“Oh, that’s not good…” she speaks in a breathy whisper.
“shit…” he mumbles. Fear grabbed his throat and the anger that had just grabbed hold of him was now being replaced with panic.
Her legs suddenly gave way and her weight came crashing down to the floor, Bucky however was quick to catch her in his arms. His metal arm snaked around the body while the other roamed her back to check for any other injuries.
She was beginning to feel it now, pain engulfed her stomach, hot blood was seeping out of her wound and staining her vest. With her head resting on Bucky’s shoulder she could hear the array of silent curses falling from his lips as his breathing became more rapid. Sucking air though her teeth her fingers brushed over a sharp piece of glass protruding from the side.
“No! Don’t pull it on it. You will bleed out.” He instantly grabbed the hand and pulled it away while reaching for the com in his ear.
“W-What about the bomber? We c-can’t let him get away.” she grunted in his arms.
“He is not my number one priority right now, you are. I am gunna get you out of here alright doll?” his tone was scaring her and a lump was forming in her throat. Sitting up straighter he hooked her arm under her knees and the other reached behind her back pulling her body closer to his chest.
“Hold on to me, and don’t let go.” he instructed. Nodding she wrapped her arms around his neck and let out a small shriek of pain as he stood up.
Bolting out of room he ran down the halls as fast as he could, his breathing was becoming frantic as panic was beginning to set it. Running toward the steps he kicked the door open with his foot and started down. As he began the decent the building suddenly violently shook while a loud sound boomed in the ears. Kneeling down he pressed his body against a wall and threw his body over hers shielding her from the falling debris. The grips around his neck tightened while she buried herself deeper into his chest while a scream fell from her lips. The rubble finally stopped and he slowly lifted his head looking around assessing the damage.
“Another explosion just went off on the east end of the building!” Steves voice rang out through the communication device.
“Oh god…” she breathed out gasping for air, her fingers grabbing onto the collar of his vest.
“Y/N was injured in the blast, I need a medic on stand by.” she hears Bucky say as he adjusts his grip around her form.
“Whats your position?” Sam quickly answers.
“We are on the north stairwell, I am bringing her down now. Be ready”
“Copy that.”
The rumbling finally came to a stop and Bucky continued his decent down the steps quickening his pace with each turn. Sickness filled her stomach and the eye lids were beginning to feel heavy as the grip around his neck loosened slightly.
“Hey hey, no, stay with me alright?” he pulled her in even closer while he was feeling her slip.
“Buck…I feel…I feel…tired.” she gasped for air.
“You need to stay awake for me. Y/N. Stay awake. Talk to me baby. Just keep talking. Stay awake for me yes?”
“…uh…hu.” she said almost in a whisper.
“We’re gunna be alright.”
Bucky rounded a corner and passed a large glass window which has been shattered from the blast. Her head began to fall down his shoulder while her hair hit the cold breeze that was blowing through the cracks. She could feel herself slipping, it was all coming to and end, nothing hurt anymore. The sun was shining though the clouds and she could see fresh snowflakes falling from the sky.
The city was so beautiful and in that moment, she felt no pain just warmth. Heat radiated off of the solider who held the body snug into his chest. She could smell him, his scent filled her nose and her head tilted up to stare into his eyes. There was no other place she would rather be then right there in his arms.
“You and me, we are going to be just fine.” he says into her ear. A smile tucks at her lips and the arm falls from his neck and dangles loosely to the side. Looking up at his face one last time she lets out a small whisper before her eyes close forever.
“Stay with me Y/N. I got you. Stay with me.”
Bucky finally exists the build with her colorless body in his grasp, he steps carefully around some burning cars and runs though the smoke. Steve and Sam stood there in front of the building waiting for him just like they said. Medical personal stood to the side awaiting to be directed to assist the pair.
“Bucky!” Steve shouts as the two run over to Bucky taking her limp body out of his arms. In that moment Bucky collapsed, his knees hitting the ground while Sam was quick to grab him. Steve placed her body gently on the ground while taking off his mask. His eyes roamed her torso assessing the damage looking at all the pieces of glass protruding from her skin. Steve leaned down pressing his head to her chest to listen for a heart beat.
Bucky sat nearby gasping for air and shaking from carrying her down many flights of stairs. Sam was holding his shoulders and keeping his steady as the solider kept licking his lips and ducking his head around Steve to see his wife.
“Help her!” Bucky gasped turning to Sam pointing at her body on the ground. Looking over to Steve, the two of them sat there while Steve took his hands off of your face shaking his head.
“How is she?” Bucky panted.
“She’s…she’s gone, Barnes.” he hears Sam whisper.
“No. No. No! She’s not gone!” Bucky pushed himself up from the ground only to stumble back to the concrete. “Steve, tell me she’s alright. Please.” he pleaded to his best friend. Steves finger tips gently brushed her cheeks before his eyes met the soldiers.
“Buck, she’s gone. I’m sorry. I’m so sorry.” Steve voice cracked while he swallowed a lump in this throat.
Crawling his way over to her body his hands roam her skin while he eyes the bloody stains on her stomach. Picking her up gently he tucks his arm behind her head holding her close as the vision of her blurs with the tears filling his eyes.
“Baby wake up. Please wake up. Please. Open your eyes.” He chokes on his words while his fingers trace over her colorless lips that are slightly parted stained with blood.
“Oh god Y/N. I’m sorry. I love you so much, I’m so sorry baby.”
His hands tremble as he strokes her hair and presses his forehead to hers and begins to sob. The gut wrenching cry that rip out of his throat echo though the streets and gets taken in the winds. The snow begins to fall harder and the flakes fall in her hair and stick to her eye lashes while his hot tears his her cheeks. He looks down at her once more and places a kiss on her forehead and squeezes his eyes shut.
“I’m sorry baby. I love you.”

Unexpected Encounter (oneshot)
Title: Unexpected Encounter Paring : Bucky x Reader Summary: Bucky Barnes finds himself falling for a single mom word count: 5169 warnings: Fluff, Swearing, Shy Bucky, Protective Bucky, probably some spelling mistakes A/N : This one was a request from http://andyfootnote.tumblr.com Thank you for the request! (so so so sorry this story took soooooooo long to write, I had a lot going on in my personal life and I had to move back into my apartment with school starting up again, so I was busy with projects!)
Masterlist
The weight of the bed slightly shifts while legs slightly graze his own under the sheets, his body adjusts slowly and his hands wrap around the form next to him. Opening his eyes slightly he sees her sound asleep, her mouth slightly agape as she take soft calm breaths beside him. Her messy hair is spread out over the pillows, her long eye lashes flutter as her dreams take flight in her mind.
Smiling he closes his eyes once again thinking to himself how lucky he was to have these moments in his life. The rain from the outside hits the window softly and the hum from the vents help him drift back to sleep. A small arm wraps around his large torso and he lets out a satisfied chuckle as he pulls the body closer to him.
The air was cold and brisk that morning, the sun was just beginning to climb into the sky painting the clouds with yellows, pinks, and oranges. The dirt trail was bare while the solider ran laps around the large park, he preferred running in the morning, it was a brain booster for him something that his therapist recommended in one of his sessions. Jogging increased his mental acuity and it was beginning to help him sleep at night, the ware from the exercise would put him to sleep; and he needed all the help he could get.
Running in the park was routine, it was an open space with lots of vantage points he could easily access if need be. Looking around he would always do a sweep before he would take off just in case, you can never be too careful. His solider instincts would always kick in once he left the facility and he couldn’t really control it, thats something no machine or therapist could ever pry out of him.
Rounding the path he stopped in place and leaned against a tree catching his breath for a moment, the adrenaline felt good in his system. His hand reached down into his sweat pants and he looking around while taking out his phone. Checking his messages he expected to see one from Steve for his annual morning text but to his surprise he hadn’t received one yet.
A small force abruptly hit him on the back of the legs, wobbling for a second he let out a small grunt. Turning around and expecting to come face to face with an oblivious bystander he came to a halt when he saw there was no one there. Scratching his head in confusion he suddenly heard a small whimper coming from his feet, looking down he was greeted with the cause of the disturbance.
Large blue eyes stared up at him and he was speechless to see a small child at his feet looking up at him with tears in her eyes. He can’t remember the last time he had an interaction with a child, most children would run away or murmur to one another when they take one look at his prosthetic arm. The little girls lips began to tremble and he bent down slowly to meet her at eye level only to receive a scared cry in return.
“Hey…hey are you alright?” he asks nervously. In a instant the small child curls up in a ball and covers her eyes and begins to cry softly. Clearing his throat he looks around for help but to much dismay he doesn’t see anyone that can come to his aid. Looking back down at the girl he sees that she has some fresh scratches on her elbow and right when he reaches for her she recoils and begins to cry harder.
“I am not going to hurt you. I am not going to hurt you.” the solider assures her. “I just need to see if you are okay. You have a scrape on your arm.” He softens up his tone as much as he can and nervously swallows trying not to show how anxious he is around her. The little girls whimpers soften and slowly she raises her head up and her eyes meet his again and he gasps softly. Her eyes were so blue, her big cheeks were rose pink and the brown hair that ran down to her shoulders had a light sheen to them.
Scrunching his eye brows together he begins to wonder why a child so young was is in a park at this hour, certainly she should be asleep right? Why is she in central park all alone? Where are her parents? Slowly he sits down in front of her and hunkers himself down so that way she doesn’t feel intimidated by his large towering figure.
“My name is Bucky.” he smiles at the little one. “Whats yours?”
“Mabel.” the little girl sniffs and wipes her eyes with the back of her hand.
“Hi Mabel, its nice to meet you. Can I look at your arm?” he points and she glances down at her wounded arm, the moment she realizes she is bleeding, tears begin to fall from her eyes again.
“No! No! Don’t cry! Its okay!” Bucky holds his hands up trying to stop her. “I am going to make it all better! Here!” Reaching into a pocket of his pants he pulls out a band aid and holds it up to her.
“Look! See? I am going to patch you right up.” he said with some enthusiasm in his voice. Mabel lets Bucky hold her arm, he brushes the dirt off of the skin and opens the wrapping of the band aid to revel little Captain America shields as the design. Laughing to himself he slowly places it on her arm and smooths it out making sure to cover the small cut on her arm.
“There. All better now?” he asks.
“All better.” she smiles at him with glee. Inching forward a little her eyes suddenly meet his arm and her eye brows shoot up just now realizing that its made entirely of metal.
“Mr Bucky, why is your arm so shiny?” she asks in wonder while her eyes are glued to the prosthetic.
“Oh, this?” he suddenly gets self conscious and begins to pull at this sleeve trying to cover it. “Its…ah..Its made of metal.”
With out warning she reaches out and touches his wrist, he is shocked by her touch. Her tiny fingers begin to roam the plates of his arm and his cheeks feel warm while he watches the youngsters shocked state. Bucky was amazed at this little girls pluckiness, her little hands rubbed and explored his arm to wits end in curiosity.
“Your arm is so pretty!” she giggled holding onto his wrist.
Shocked, his eye brows shoot up and he is at a loss for words for a moment. “Oh.” Bucky feels warm. “Thanks.” No one had ever called his arm pretty before.
“Say, where is your mom, why aren’t you with her?” Bucky rests his hands in his lap and Mabel does the same copying him.
“Mommy was working and I saw a doggie and I wanted to pet him. But the doggie ran away before I could get close.”
“Well you shouldn’t be running off by yourself, especially in a big park like this! Its dangerous!” Bucky’s voice began to raise a little and he did his best to keep a steady tone.
“I’m sorry.” she pouts and wiggle her tows though her shoes. “I just wanted to see the doggie.” she mopes.
“Its alright but next time you should go with mom or dad so you aren’t alone.”
A unsettling look then fell on the little girls face and her eyes met his. Scrunching his eye brows together he watched her body stiffen slightly and quietly wince.
“My dad?” she asked in a shaky breath. Bucky didn’t like the tone of her voice.
“Uh, yea your Dad…” He scratched his head. “He could…Uh…take you…”
“MABEL!” a loud panicked yell made him flinch and the pair turned around to look toward the trees. Standing up he grabs the little girls hands and pulls her up off the ground and wipes the remaining dirt off of her dress.
“Mommy!” Mabel happily cries out and begins to wave.
Through the trees he sees you for the first time, he was stunned when your eyes lock onto his and his breath hitches in his throat. He sees you stop in place and your eyes instantly lock onto his own seeing your daughter at his side, you begin to jog toward the pair. He is amazed how fast you move with the healed boots on the feet, in a flash you arrive in front of them scooping Mabel up in your arms.
“Oh goodness! Mabel! Don’t run off! You scared me to death!” He sees you begin to stoke the back of her head. “I told you to stay put! You didn’t listen to mommy! You can’t run off like that! You need to stay where I can see you!” Your voice is harsh and stern.
“I’m sorry mommy!” Mabel pouts.
“Its alright, just don’t do it again alright?” Her voices softens and so do her eyes.
“Yes mommy!” Mabel gleams and you smile down at her but it quickly fades when you see a band aid on your daughters elbow.
“Honey what happened to your arm? Did you get hurt?” you ask in fright.
“Mommy, I fell and got a cut but my new friend gave me a band aid. He also has shiny arm! ” Mabel squeaks and begins to bounce on her mother hip in excitement.
She looses her motherly grip and Mabel rests on her side, her gaze roams his form and lingers at his metal arm. Instead of unleashing hell, which was the reaction he was expecting, a soft smile forms on your glossy lips and she cocks her hip to the side.
“Hi..” Bucky awkwardly speaks and gives a small wave with his flesh hand, tucking the metal one to his side trying to hide it.. “My names is Bucky B-“
“Barnes.” His last name rolls of your lips and he shivers.
“I…yea…”
“My name is Y/N.” she holds out her hand and he shakes it slowly squinting at her.
“Do I know you?” he asks cautiously.
Letting out a breathy laugh she shakes her head. “No, I am friends with Natasha, you work with her right?”
“Er, right.” He speaks softly. Curiosity takes him over and he doesn’t know how to react, nor what to say next.
“Thanks for watching her, I went into a bit of a panic during a break when I saw she wasn’t with me.”
“You work around here?” He asks scratching his head looking around trying to pin point exactly where you came from.
“Actually no, I was doing a photography job nearby, it was kinda last minute so I had to bring Mabel with me.”
Looking at her frame he finally notices a camera bag slug over your shoulder hanging at your side. “Oh. Cool.” Bucky smiles and instantly scolds himself for being so awkward around such a beautiful woman. A long silence fills the atmosphere and he is silently expecting some sort of freakout from the mother who’s daughter just ran into the Winter Solider in central park, but to his shock you are quite calm.
“Mommy, I’m cold.” Mabel wraps her tiny arms around herself and begins to shiver. Bucky takes a small step forward closer, while he watches you take off your hoodie and wrap it around the little girl who’s breaths could be seen in the cold air. Mabel snuggles into her mothers chest and Bucky’s heart begins to beat faster in his.
“Well, I guess its time for us to go. Again thank you for watching her Bucky, and keeping her safe. Mabel what do you say?” You look down at your daughter and Mabel turns her head to Bucky.
“Thank you Mr. Bucky! Thank you for the band aid!”
“Of course,” Bucky beams at Mabel and then he looks into your eyes. The sun behind you begins to rise further up into the sky and a glow began to shimmer in the hair, it was breath taking. Studying your features to every inch he is taken away by how beautiful this woman was.
“See you around Barnes?” she speaks with a smile and begins to turn.
“Bye bye Bucky!” Mabel waves her tiny hands at Bucky as Y/N begins to walk away. He lifts his arm up and waves at the little girl and the two of them walk away back into the trees. From a distance he sees Mabel face light up and he then realizes that he is waving with his metal hand and it is gleaming in the sunlight.
*
“God Damn it…” Bucky mumbles to himself. He stands in front of his smoking engine on the side of the free way, the cars wiz past and he smells exhaust from the engines that fly by. It had been a few days since his encounter with you and he can’t seem to get your image out of his brain. Your warm smile, your beautiful eyes, the way you carried yourself, and Mabel. He could never forget about Mabel, that little girl made his heart leap and he felt a love for her that he couldn’t describe.
Bucky went out to run some errands that day, he was feeling better than usual he had a perk to his step and everyone could see it. It was too hot to take his bike so he took Steve’s car instead, only for it to break down on the side of the freeway. His interaction with you was like no other, he wished that he would have run into you the day after but you weren’t there no matter how long he waited after his run.
Letting out a defeated huff he is about to slam his door shut when a car pulls off the highway and parks a few feet away from his own. Taking a step back and keeping his hands hovering at his sides, his fingertips brushes over the firearm tucked into his shirt. The door of the car opens, Bucky’s eyes widen when he sees a woman step out of the car. Her hair pulled back into a pony tail, a denim jacket covers a stained tank top that tucks into a pair of ripped blue jeans and some brown healed boots.
He didn’t register it was you until your voice falls upon his ears and in that moment he feels his body melt. “Heya Bucky.” you reach for your sunglasses and tuck them into a pocket of the jacket as you gracefully stride toward him. Instantly his body relaxes and he feels his face light up and a smile creep onto his face. “Funny running into you, second time this week must be fate huh?”
“Hey. Yea, something like that.” he blushes trying not to stare.
“What happened?” you ask gingerly walking past him reaching for the hood of the car.
“Don’t know, engine was making a funny sound.”
He watched as you lift up the hood of the car, instantly steam flies out and pushes her jacket back slightly and he can’t help stare at her body. She stands holding up the hood looking down at the engine, her eyes roam the complexity of the machine. Bucky gives her a look over starting from her heals to her head, noticing the different curves of her body as she overlooks the issue. Bucky soon realizes that he is staring and leans back and clears his throat, he swears the temperature spiked in the last minute.
“I see the problem, you are leaking steering fluid. Were you having problems steering the wheel?
“Huh? Yea, I was, it was making a funny sound too.” He sees her adjust her coat pulling it down a little and he gulps.
“Yea, you aren’t going much further in this, you got anywhere you have to be?”
“I was just heading back, I was out running errands.”
“Alright, Call a tow and I’ll take you back to base.” Slamming the hood shut you begin to strut away and Bucky turns around calling after her.
“No, Y/N its okay really. You don’t have to.” He objects. “I’m fine you don’t have to do this.”
“Come on Barnes. Get in the car. I’ll take you home.” he sees you stop and turn back to him nudging your head to your own car.
His feet stay glued to the ground, Bucky doesn’t budge as he watches you hop in the car and shut the door. The soldier looks back at his own car and slowly takes the brown bag of groceries out of the back and piles them in his arms. Taking a deep breath he slowly paces over to your car and reaches the door, he sees you nod and he gently opens the door.
“Mr. Bucky!” he hears a squeal coming from the back of the car. Quickly his head spins around to see Mabel seat belted in her car seat with her arms stretched out to him making grabby hands.
Bucky twists his body around and reaches back slightly and Mabel grabs his metal hand with her tiny fingers. She begins to giggle and gush to him about her toys, while you just smile to yourself and start the car. After a few seconds he turns back around to see you putting your sunglasses on and looking over your shoulder to begin to pull out back onto the highway.
“I really don’t think this is necessary Y/N. I can just wait for a ride.” The car starts onto the highway while you adjust your hands on the wheel. He looks at your fingers, you are not wearing a ring.
“Nonsense! I am headed that way anyway. I will get you back in no time.”
Mabel babbled on as the car drove away, the little girl kept asking the solider questions which made him chuckle. She would tell jokes to him which made the two of you laugh while the little girl squealed in delight at your responses. He couldn’t remember the last time he felt this happy.
The car drives a way until finally pulling off the freeway and turning down a private road. No civilian was supposed to know how to get here and Bucky became even more curious to who this woman actually was. After driving for a couple minutes the car finally reaches a large gate with armed guards patrolling the front holding their guns up at the car the moment it came to a halt. A guard came stalking over to the car and you rolled down the window with a smile.
“ID” he said sternly.
“Oh Shit.” Bucky whispered. “I left my ID in my car.”
Panic flooded his system and he looked around eyeing up all the guards, looking for their weapons. He began to think of escape plans how he could get the two of you out of here safely. Looking into the mirror he glanced at Mabel fearing that she may be scared in the current situation with all the guns. But he was surprised to see the little girl slightly bouncing in the seat trying to stretch her head to look at the compound in the distance. Turning back to you his fingers reached to his own gun as the impatient guard crossed his arms.
“Nah, I got it, its all good.” He hears you say as you pull out your wallet and grabs a identification card and showing it to the agent. The guard takes it from your hands and holds it closer to his face to read it carefully. His face suddenly relaxes and a smile forms on his face.
“Welcome back Agent Y/L/N.” he says in a happy tone.
“Thank you very much.” You smile and take the ID back shoving it back into your wallet. The guard waves to the tower and a loud ring goes off and the doors open letting you pass through. Bucky’s mouth is agape as the car begins to pull in and drive down the paved road.
“You work for Shield.” He abruptly blurts out.
“No, I worked for Shield.” you say with a shit eating grin on your face. Things were starting to make sense now, the reason you knew his name when he first met you. The reason why you weren’t scared of him and neither was Mabel was because you were in fact a former agent. It all came together now.
The car came to a slow stop as you put the car into park and unbuckled your seat belt. “We’re here!” you said in a higher pitched voice while unlocking the car doors. He sat there completely puzzled while you began to unbuckle your squealing daughter from her car seat. Jumping out she began to run around the car and looking up at the tall building in front of her.
“You coming?” Bucky jumps and sees you leading on the car looking at him though his window.
“I just can’t believe…” he stuttered out.
“Come on, I will explain everything.” you chuckled.
Bucky got out of the car and Mabel came over to his legs pulling on his pants in excitement running circles around him. You just stood there with with your arms crossing watching as the little one gleam in excitement.
Mabel suddenly stopped and hid behind Bucky and he began to look around while she grabbed the back of his shirt. Looking at you he expected you to have some sort of reaction to your daughters distress but your gaze looked elsewhere. The moment he heard Mabel whimper his arm reached around his back and he held her in a protective manner pressing her body close to his. He looked to you once more but your body showed no sign of being tense.
He turned his head and finally saw what or in this case, who she was looking at. There were men approaching them, but not guards, no these were staff who helped work on the vehicles. No doubt they were here to check out your car as they typically do for guests. Bucky’s grip softened as he concluded that there was no threat or danger but Mabel still held on as the men got closer.
“Mabel.” you said softly. She looked up at her mother and when Bucky saw little tears in her eyes his heart broke a little. “Look who it is.” You pointed toward one of the hangers. Out came Natasha and Sam who were making their way towards them both with big smiles on their faces.
“Aunty Nat!” Mabel squealed while letting go of Bucky and running toward them. Sam bent down with his arms stretched out but Mable blew right past him into Natasha’s arms. Sam blinked a few times and he frowned while Bucky looked down upon him trying not to laugh.
“Hey we are working on it alright? Baby steps.”
Sam stood up and walked over to you and pulled you into a big embrace. “Hey Sammy, good to see you.” Bucky saw you pat his back while Sam stuck his tongue out at the solider.
“Didn’t know you were visiting today.” Sam said pulling back and looking at your car.
“Well someone had to get Barnes home after his car decided to die on the highway.” You lightly punched Bucky’s arm and he scoffed.
“Oh. Good thinking Ice box. The next time I am driving somewhere, I’ll make sure my car breaks down on purpose so that way a beautiful woman can come to my rescue.”
“It wasn’t on purpose bird brain.” Bucky rolled his eyes.
“What ever you say old man.” Sam waved as he walked away.
Bucky looked over at you watching your smile as you looked at Natasha ticking the little girl in her arms while the giggles echoed though the air. The eyes were so soft and Bucky wanted to capture this moment in his head for as long as possible.
“Hey you want to go see Aunty Wanda? She just got back and she is inside! Well, if thats okay with your mother that is.” Natasha says to Mabel. The little girl turns her head to her mother for approval.
“Mommy? Can we? Can we go see Aunty Wanda?” she begged.
“Sure.” You shrugged with a smile. Mabel giggled and Natasha began to hurry inside and their laughs began to echo louder in the garage. Bucky and you began to walk slowly behind them in no rush to catch up.
“What was that about?” Bucky inquired.
“What was what about?” you asked turning your head towards him.
“The thing with sam, and those workers. What what wrong with Mabel?”
“Mabel is scared of men.”
“What? What about her father?”
Instantly Bucky regrets asking the questions the moment it left his mouth as he watches your eyes slowly fall to the ground. Afraid that he may have crossed the line anxiety fills his body and his hands begin to fiddle with the hem of his shirt. After a pause you finally look up at him with a sad smile on your face.
“Mabel’s doesn’t know her father.” You pause and take a take a deep breath.
“Four years ago when I was working for shield I fell for another agent who worked with me in the field. One thing led to another and I got pregnant and well, lets just say he didn’t want anything to do with the baby. I left Shield, and retired taking up a photography job during my pregnancy and then I gave birth. It has just been Mabel and I ever since.”
“I’m sorry.” Bucky sadly replied.
“No, no, don’t be. Ever since she was a little girl she has always been scared of men for some reason. I think its because she doesn’t have a dad, also she hasn’t been around a lot of men. She doesn’t seem scared of you, to be honest I was shocked when I saw her with you a couple of days ago. She didn’t seem to be scared of you or cry like she always does. When Steve tries to talk to her she becomes skittish and runs away. But there is something about you barnes, something special I guess.”
He stops in his tracks and stares at you as you continue to walk into the hanger. Bucky’s stomach feel warm and red fills his cheeks while your heals click on the concrete. Spinning around you smile as him and he jogs up to you catching up to your stride and the two of you disappear into the compound.
The elevator dings and the door opens to a hectic scene, most of the team was crammed into a small kitchen that overlooked a living room. Mabel was being chased by the girls and hid behind you for protection but was quickly scooped away by Wanda while she let out a fit of giggles. Bucky followed you into the room and into the sea of conversations while Steve pushes though the crowd.
“Wow! Y/N! Haven’t seen you in a while how have you been?” Steve big arms wrap around you and Bucky watches his old friend pull her into his big chest. Pulling back Steve puts an arm around your shoulders while keeping you close.
“Good. Everything’s good.” Bucky sees you looking around the room at the others.
“Wheres Stark?”
“Oh, on his honeymoon.”
“Aw, I am so glad he and Pepper finally tied the knot. Oh! I rescued your partner in crime.” Steve head turned toward Bucky and his arm dropped from your body and Bucky let out a breath he didn’t know he was holding in.
“I heard, Buck you need to take better care of your cars.” Steve pointed.
“Hey it was your car punk.” Bucky protested.
“Y/N, do you and Mabel want to stay for dinner?” Steve ask and you glanced at Bucky while smiling brightly.
“Sure, we would love to.”
*
The day now has turned to dusk as the team says goodbye to Y/N and Mabel while everything winds down for the night. After a long dinner filled with many laughs and stories its time for her to leave. Bucky helps Y/N down the stairs while she holds a her sleeping daughter in the arms, carefully they reach the final steps and head toward the car.
Its dark as Y/N walks side by side with the solider who stays close to her keeping the two girl in his protective gaze. When they reach the car Bucky trots to the side and opens the car door and Y/N bends down and lays Mabel in her car seat. His hands involuntarily cup around her head making sure Mabel doesn’t bonk her head as her mother buckles her in. Closing the car door Y/N stands back up and leans against the car cocking her head to the side looking at the solider.
“You know, when she wakes up and sees you aren’t there she is going to be upset.”
“Well you two are going to have to drop by more then then.” Bucky smiles copying her pose.
“I would like that.” You speak and his heart skips a beat.
“Thank you again for the ride, you didn’t have to.”
“Don’t mention it Buck. Well I will see you around.” Leaning forward you plant a kiss on his cheek, your lips linger there for a few seconds before pulling back. Stepping around him his eyes widen and the engine roars as you shut the car door behind you. Bucky takes a wobbly stride back and watches the car drive away until he could no longer see the lights anymore. The sunset fills the sky and the soldiers cheek burns and he rubs it with a grin etched on his face.
The little girl rests her head on his chest and the solider begins to stroke her hair lightly as she purrs softly. The woman beside him shifts onto her side and her eyes flutter open looking at him with grogginess. A smile pulls at her lips and his hand reaches down to her swollen stomach rubbing his palm over the silky fabric of her night gown.
A small foot pushes out from the skin and he lets out a breathy laugh and pokes the limp lightly with his index finger. You smile and place your hand over his, your ring making a slight tapping sound when it hits the metal of his fingers. The rain pounds on the window harder and the family snuggles further under the covers and into the warmth of the bed. Bucky holds Mabel close to his heart and kisses your forehead and quietly falls back asleep.

masterlist
The hall way the armed guards led her down was dark, florescent tube lights lit the way down flickering as they ascended deeper and deeper into the ground. The smell of mold and dirt was very potent to the nose, the bricks along the walls were cracked and stained red. Hush mumbles and the sounds of boots hitting the ground filled the atmosphere as she was forcefully shoved around a corner.
A strong hand held tightly around her bicep was guiding her in the direction the group turned, the grip was so harsh and visibly made her wince. The group approached a door and she was pulled to an abrupt halt as the guards dispersed around taking their place against the wall. The set of two doors had rectangular windows on them but there were newspapers taped over the glass preventing anyone from looking in.
They stood there in silence waiting, the more time passed the more uncomfortable she became and the weight shifted from one leg to the other. A loud clatter that came from the other side of the door made her flinch and step back and the fingers around her arm got tighter. Another moment passed as feet shuffled around from the other side along with some faint whispers that she couldn’t quite make out.
The door finally opened after a few agonizing minutes and a petrified man in a white lab coat slid out. Adjusting his glasses and clearing his throat he gave her a look over and motioned the guard to bring her in. The doors opened every so slightly, just enough that they could all go inside one at a time. Slowly she stepped through the doors, the guard behind her began to push her and she almost tumbled to the ground before she regained her footing. As she looked around she realized that this room seemed completely out of place than the halls she was just dragged down. This room was completely white, everything looked pristine from the floor to the walls. Strange looking machines were piled in various parts of the room while some medical equipment was laying about.
Harsh and labored breathing made the head snap up and her eyes widen at the large figure sitting in front of her. A large man sat hunched over in a medical chair, the sweat on his bare chest glistened in the light. His defined muscles seemed to tighten with each breath he took, gulping she stood up straight as a pole and inhaled sharply. Long brown hair covered his face and stuck to his wet cheeks, the eyes couldn’t stop wandering his toned body. Bruises and cuts littered the skin and a large tumble of gauze was being held close to his ribs with blood stains peering though.
As the man slightly flinched her blood suddenly ran cold in the realization that this man in front of her was missing a left arm. In its place was a metal prosthetic with a large red star on the shoulder, beginning to tremble the women turned in fear but was stopped by a guard who didn’t let her pass. Fear flooded her body and sickness pushed its was up the throat threatening to come up at any moment. She knew exactly what was going on and slowly she turned back around facing the man once again.
Doctors were huddled in one of the corners of the room with panicked eyes as they watched her fiddle with her coat selves out of nervousness. A few of them were also bleeding, some blood droplets trailed on the tile along with some medical tools. The barrel of a gun was abruptly pushed into her lower back and she was nudged forward by the guard behind her urging her to get to work. Taking a deep breath in she slowly took a few steps ahead steadily approaching the mysterious man in the chair. With each fearful step she took, a different sound would fall from the petrified doctors lips as they whispered unknown words to one another.
After what seemed like days her feet finally planted themselves firmly in front of the solider who sat there completely still. A short pause turned into a few painful minutes as she stood there not knowing where to start while roaming the mans skin. “E…Excuse me…” she stuttered while her fingers dug into her sides tapping the skin in a nervous tick. The women received no response from anyone in the room, and particularity not the solider like she had hoped.
She bit her lip and took a couple of deep breaths to calm herself down, she had to do this or they would just get rid of her and grab someone else so she didn’t have a choice. Bending down slightly her fingers reached out to his flesh ones which were dangling loosely at his side. The moment her skin made contact with his she had expected a reaction, particularly a violent one but instead she received nothing more than a quick intake of breath. Wiggling her hand in his she let herself wrap her fingers around his own and a second later his head shot up.
Shocked the women stepped back holding onto herself in some sort of protective manner and the man looked around and balled his fists. His expression was angered and it reminded her of a scared animal, the eyes scanned around but came to a halt when they found hers. The mans features unexpectedly and visibly relaxed the moment he looked at her face.
“Hi…” she managed to say in a low awkward whisper, the solider swallowed hard and his adams apple bobbed up and down. The eyes were like blue crystals that stared deep into her soul, his red lips parted slightly at the sight of her. His completion was pale, brown scruff formed a shadow on his face while dry blood stuck to the pale skin. Goosebumps littered her body and a chill shook her core, the room was quiet and cold while the vents let out a low hum. Swallowing hard she hesitantly inched forward and tilted her head looking down upon his abdomen once more.
“Can I take a look at your side?”
He looked up at her with wide eyes as she reached over to a side table grabbing some latex gloves and pulling them over her hands. The eye brows scrunched together he watched as she adjusted the gloves around her palms with her finger tips. Looking back into his eyes she awaited an answer for him but again, didn’t receive one. “Your bleeding, Can I take a look at it?” she asked again in a quiet voice. Her tone was so sweet to his ears and he wanted her to keep asking so he could continue to listen to her voice. The stiff posture of his body slowly relaxed and his hand steadily fell from holding his side giving her access to his wound.
Pulling a metal stool up next to the man she sat down close to him holding her hands close to his ribs. Carefully she bent forward and pulled back the bloodied gauze that was stuck to his side reveling a gun shot wound on his skin. Pushing the skin with her thumbs around the abrasion she pulled back the flaps of skin to take a look at his wound. Blood began to spill out the minute pressure was applied and in a flash she grabbed a towel and cleaned up the blood.
“The bullet is still wedged into the skin, I am going to have to rip it out okay?” The women looked up into the eyes of the mysterious man. His eyes just remained glued onto her form and his body was relaxed but on alert. Reaching to the table she grabbed a pair of tweezers, her hands trembled and the instrument shook in her fingers.
Carefully she pushed the ends into his flesh and caught the trails of blood with the stained rag with the other hand. Wincing she twisted her hand as the tweezers finally found the bullet, pulling back her arm she held the bloodied object up into the light. Looking up at the solider she expected a sound, an expression, something, but he didn’t react nor did he show any interest in the slightest to her procedure. Instead his glossy eyes just focused on the women kneeled in front of him, who’s sweet words kept echoing in his mind.
Tossing the bullet in a lotion bowl she kept applying pressure to the wound as her hand reached for the needle and thread that was kept in a bucket near the pair. “I am going to stitch you up now okay?” her voice was still shaking in fear. Avoiding his gaze again she dug her self into stitching the man up, her hands traveled on his skin so gently. The solider was not used to being touched like this nor being treated in his manner, this woman was so kind so gentle with him. Her touch wasn’t forced and she was very carful when she handled him, she spoke every time she was about to do something and let him know in advanced, this was something he was not used to. Soon he was becoming more and more relaxed around this women and a strange sense of wanting was building up in his chest.
After wrapping up his side she began to sterilize more of the cuts on his body, his flesh was torn in some places while bruises spotted on the skin. Standing up from the stool she hovered near him cleaning the blood off of his skin and covering up the cuts with sterile pads before cleaning them with rubbing alcohol. Standing straight her form just mere inches away from his, his crystal blue eyes stared up at her while she avoided eye contact instead focusing on the intricate plates on his prosthetic arm. She had never seen such a high tech limb before, it scared but also intrigued her, the plates suddenly shifted and she flinched softly turning her attention back to the solider.
Gazing at his face the women furrowed her brows when noticing dried blood on his pink lips, the skin was severely chapped so much to the point where it was cracking. “Can I touch your face?” she politely asks while inching her hands toward his chin. The woman doesn’t receive an answer but he gives her a look to let her know he agrees to her movements. Her fingers graze his cheeks and he flinches slightly at the coldness of her hands, only now does he realize how much she is shivering from the cold. “Sorry.” she lets out an almost embarrassed huff, “Cold fingers, poor circulation.” she smiled and trailed her nails over his cracked lips. “They are very chapped.” she said in a concerned tone. His eye brows raise slightly at her statement which he had missed being too distracted by the way her eyes sparkled when she spoke. “Your lips.” she pointed to her own with one hand to clarify. “They are bleeding.” The mans eyes fell and he began to lick his lips feeling the cracks and blood over the skin then making an uncomfortable face at the taste of blood.
“No! Don’t do that! You will make it worse. Here…I have something for that. I always have it on me.” The woman pulled her hands back and reached down into a pocket of her lab coat. Pulling her arm back out she opened her palm to revel a small tube like object with a cap on it at the top. Holding the object up she held it out for the solider to take, the man however doesn’t take it instead his eyes wander back and fourth from the substance to the woman.
Smiling in defeat she opens the lid with a pop and twists the bottom of the tube causing the clear medicine to rise out. The man looks at the tube with a curious expression as she leads it to his lips. Her fingers make contact with his skin again and this time he doesn’t flinch but feels a familiar ping in his heart which causes his body to feel warm.
The woman holds his chin up with one hand and begins to apply the substance to his lips with the other, the touch is soft and tender. He can feel the warmth of her body as she stands so close to him her body inches away from his which makes his heart race faster. The substance coats his lips and covers the cracks of the skin and he feels the pain slowly subside as she runs the tube over his lips.
“There.” she smiles and pulls her form back capping the tube and holding onto the stick. His lips are parted in awe while he sits and looks up at her while silence threatens to take over. Pointing to her lips again she rubs them together in smoothing motion, the woman urged the man to do the same and he copied her.
“Feel better?” she chuckled while stuffing her hands back into the pockets of her coat. He nodded and he felt his lips turn into a small smile.
Silence once again fell upon the room and the pair just stayed quiet, awkwardly stealing glances at one another while the time ticked away. The solider no longer felt any pain from any of his injuries, instead he felt numb and safe while looking up into the women’s eyes. Tucking a strand of hair behind her ear she unnecessarily checked his body once more in the hopes of distracting herself from his curious gaze.
A loud slam made her jump and the woman abruptly turned, her arms instinctively wrapping around her body. The doors behind her opened up and a tall man dressed in tactical gear marched in with another guard following on his heals. The room became cold again while the chill from the outside and the mens gazes sent shivers down her spine. The solider observed as she began to curl into her self once more while the underling strode over to the woman.
“Time to go.” The man in black barked out harshly.
The moment the solider saw the guard wrap his fingers around her bicep, an unfamiliar anger started to build up in his chest and he did not understand why. He had to use every ounce of strength in his body from not shooting up out of his seat and ripping the guard off of her. Flinching the solider let out an involuntary grunt which received a glare from the head guard and some distant clicks of firearms being prepped.
Slowly they began to escort her out of the room, all he could do was watch as the guards pulled her away roughly. The metal doors to the room opened once more the head guard lead the way as the woman was dragged along not far behind. Right before she was shoved out, her feet planted hard on the ground and she forcibly stopped and turned back to look at him. A soft smile appeared on her face and she rubbed her lips together, he promptly did the same back to her copying the motion. Grinning with satisfaction she finally let the anxious guard pull her away and the door slammed shut behind them, and just like that the solider was alone again.

Lonely Holidays (One shot)
Title: Lonely Holidays Paring : Bucky x Reader Summary: “I know we hate each other but its Christmas Eve and your flight was cancelled please come inside.” word count: 5,053 warnings: fluff, swearing, concerned bucky? A/N : So i had this idea when I had gotten surgery and I needed something to take my mind off of it so here it is! Tell me what you think!
Masterlist
“I’m sorry, what did you just say?” Bucky hunched over the desk, his body leans slightly over the check in desk while a woman stares at him with a cheerful look on her face.
“All flights have been canceled sir.” she says with a crooked smile on her face.
“What? How am I supposed to get home?”
“I’m terribly sorry sir, but all flights out of the air port were just canceled due to the storm that is moving across the country.”
“What about another airline?” he asked impatiently.
“I am afraid thats not possible, all airlines are shut down until further notice, they just can’t put a plane in the sky in this kind of weather. I can try and help you get a hotel room in the city somewhere…”
“No, no, I don’t want to go to a damn hotel. I just want to go home. Its Christmas Eve! What am I going to do?” Bucky’s voice came out louder than he had expected.
“I’m very sorry Sir, there is nothing I can do. There is a line behind you. Again, I’m sorry there is nothing more I can do for you” Gently she motioned for the next person and Bucky took a couple steps back mumbling silent curses under his breath.
Bucky pushed through the sea of people, inch by inch he moved doing his best not to accidentally elbow someone by mistake. Eventually he found a quiet spot that was a ways past a newly departed gate, standing behind a pillar he stopped to take a breather. This day hasn’t been going well.
He was sent on a small recon assignment, something that was supposed to be small turned into a giant shit show with a bunch of former Hydra agents. The thing was, he wasn’t even supposed to go, but he volunteered to go figuring that it would be a quick in and out, and boy was he wrong. After a long chase, some big explosions, and a bullet grazing his head, he was finally able to get out of there with a bit of his dignity left. Some recon mission that was.
So here he is now, Bucky finds himself stranded in an airport on Christmas Eve with no way of getting home. Bags are beginning to form under his eyes and he drops his duffle bag to the floor while simultaneously grabbing his phone out of the pocket. Finding Steve’s name under speed dial he quickly hits call gritting his teeth together in anxiousness. The rings pass terribly slow and Bucky is instantly fearful that his best friend wont answer his call, but a wave a relief washes that away when he finally hears someone answer.
“Steve.” Bucky blurts out abruptly.
“Bucky?” Steve asks in confusion. “Bucky where are you? Aren’t you supposed to be on a plane right now?”
“My flight got canceled, I am stuck in Chicago.”
“Whens the next flight out?”
“All the flights are canceled. They said the storm won’t let up for a couple of days. Can you send a Quinjet over here to grab me?”
“Buck, there is no one at base right now, everyone is home for the holidays.”
“What about Stark?”
“Bucky…”
“There must be something you can do Steve! I am stuck in an airport! I’m am tired! I’m exhausted! And all I want to do is go home and crash in my bed and sleep till new years!” He knows he shouldn’t be shouting at his friend, but he has been up for way too long and he is a very grumpy super solider. Steve was quiet on the other end no doubt trying to figure out a plan for his best friend, after a long pause he finally spoke.
“You said you were in Chicago right?” Steve asked hesitantly.
“Thats right.” Bucky raised an eye brow at Steve’s suspicious tone.
“Well….Y/N lives in Chicago.”
“No.” Bucky states plainly.
“Bucky.”
“Steve.”
“Its either you go to Y/N’s place or you spend the night in a hotel and we both know how you feel about them.” Bucky shivered just at the thought of the scratchy carpet and the bed bugs. “Plus you probably won’t be able to find one open tonight.”
“I’d rather freeze to death on the street.” Bucky mumbles while looking down and nudging his bag with his foot.
“Y/N lives right outside the city, I will send you her address. Take a cab and go to her house, thats your best option at this point. We can figure this out in the morning, just text me when you get there and rest…Oh and try not to kill each other alright?”
“Fine.” Bucky groaned.
“I will talk to you later.” Hanging up he shoved the phone back into his pocket and pinched the bridge of his nose letting out a frustrated breath of air.
You weren’t exactly at the top of his favorite persons list, you didn’t even make the top ten, and Bucky doesn’t like a lot of people. The two of you would always bicker and harass each other, the team would often have to break up the little verbal quarrels that the two of you would get in quite often. As someone who wasn’t part of the team you sure hung out with them a lot and he despised the way you would always throw yourself into danger without thinking it over.
He hated you, he hated the way you would always laugh at Steve’s dumb jokes. He hated the way you were always able to calm him down from his rage episodes. He hated the way your hair always fell to perfectly on your shoulders, the way your eyes gleamed when you listened to someone talk. The way your lips parted before you were about to speak….
Immediately he shook his head. Yup, he hated you alright.
The car ride was unimaginably long as it took him away from the airport, the traffic was horrendous, the roads were icy and the weather seemed to be getting worse by the minute. Bucky was exhausted, annoyed but most importantly, tired, the only thing that was really keeping him awake was dread of having to show up at your home unannounced. He was taken out of the city after a long wait in seasonal traffic, Bucky was driven out of the city and soon entered suburban neighborhoods.
The driver drove slowly past all the houses and Bucky’s eyes roamed each one admiring the glows of the lights and decorations sprawled out on the lawns. Stopping at the end of the street the car came to a halt, on cue the solider unbuckled and hoped out of the car into the icy blizzard. The moment he opened the door a chill hit him hard and the snowy winds gave him goosebumps as he slug his duffle bag over his shoulder. Damn, he hated the cold. With chattering teeth he handed the driver a fist full of bills while simultaneously wishing the man a happy holidays, only to receive a grunt in return.
He watched as the driver slowly drove away and was long out of sight before looking back at the her house, it was small as it stood wedged in between two colossal homesteads. It was blue with a white trim around it, the porch on the front wrapped around the side and looked freshly shoved, however the pathway did not. The dwelling had two floors with only a few windows which had the curtains pulled over them hiding the insides from prying eyes. The only light he could see was coming from a room on the first floor and he was beginning to rethink his decision on coming here.
Inhaling deeply he slowly walked up to the front door, looking around again he noticed that her house was the only one that was not decorated in the christmas fashions. All the homes were decked out in holiday lights with knick knacks all spread around the yards, but hers was plain and baron.
The light in the window was dim and he was beginning to feel sick, what if you turned him away? What if you weren’t awake? It was cold and he turned his head to look down the street before shifting the weight from one leg to the other. Bucky was mere inches away from the door and took a deep breath before ringing the door bell and clenching his jaw in nervousness.
An excruciatingly long minute passed, until a light finally flicked on illuminating the front porch, the snow all around him began to twinkle from the rays. The door opened very slowly, too slowly for his liking, he held his breath and slowly he saw your figure step out of the darkness of your house.
Your body was cozied up in a sweatshirt while some long sweatpants covered your legs, a handmade blanket laid around your shoulders keeping you warm. Bucky flinched when your eyes met his and he could see your expression melting from a fake smile to an annoyed frown in a millisecond. He opened his mouth to speak but all of the sudden you slammed the door shut right on his face and he jumped.
“Y/N.” Bucky stated rolling his eyes and pushing out the breath he was holding in. “Y/N.” he calls about again this time raising his tone. He dropped his shoulders in annoyance from the lack of response coming from behind the door, even though he knew you were still there. “Y/N!” he called out once more and knocked hard on your door with such great force he could have sworn he heard the hinges rattle.
The door swung open and you took a step forward once more glaring at Bucky with irritation written all over your face. Bucky had to desperately hold back a laugh by faking a unpleasant cough as you crossed your arms and leaned against the door.
“What do you want?” the words were harsh as they left the mouth.
“Merry Christmas to you too.” Bucky replied with a cheeky grin on his face.
“What are you doing here?” your tone didn’t falter.
“I…Didn’t Steve tell you I was coming?” Bucky asked suspiciously.
You raised your eye brow skeptically and gave him a look over.
“I will take that as a no then. Well I was on assignment and I was supposed to fly back to New York but my flight was canceled because of the storm thats coming through. So I…”
“So instead of calling for a Quinjet you decided to come to my house.” your words interrupted him while you adjusted your form while keeping a stern look.
“There was no one at base.” Bucky mumbled in annoyance while scratching the back of his head and looking down at the ground. “Coming here wasn’t my first call to be fair, believe me.”
“Then why are you here?”
“Because I have no were else to go.” Bucky’s tone begins to become defensive. This isn’t going well.
“Why didn’t you just stay at a hotel?”
“A…A hotel? Do you know what day it is? You think I could find one that was open right now? I don’t understand why this all of the sudden turned into an interrogation! ”
“Look, I am just trying to figure out why you are here, Barnes.”
“If you want me to leave so bad, just tell me!” his voice raises slightly at your attitude.
“I am just trying to wrap my brain around the fact that Bucky Barnes is on my porch at this ungodly hour!”
“You know what? Fine!” Bucky throws his hands up into the air like a child throwing a fit and marches down the steps of the porch. Leaning your head back you let out a growl while running your fingers though your hair. He walks to the edge of the street and crosses his arms and begins to look down the street looking for nothing in particular.
“You are being so difficult!” You cup your hands to project your voice to him. Bucky doesn’t answer, instead he turns his head back to you for a moment and gives you a menacing glare before returning to look at the street once more.
“Now what are you doing?” The body leans against the door frame while you pull the blanket up further.
“I am leaving, what does it look like I’m doing?” His voice was being taken by the winds while he spoke.
“Where will you go?”
“I don’t know, maybe I will die out in the blizzard. We are just going to have to wait and see won’t we? he shouts back in while you roll your eyes at the drama queen.
Smirking you now realize that the two of you look like angry toddlers screaming at each other out in a snow storm. He seems to realize it too because he turns back around trying to conceal a half angry smile while pouting on the street in the snow.
“Bucky, its like 15 degrees outside!”
“I don’t care! I’m the Winter Solider, Winter is my middle name!” he says while you catch him shiver.
“Bucky! ….God you are such a stubborn asshole.”
Looking around you take a large deep breath and let the air trail away in the winds, the snow is falling harder and your fingers are starting to feel numb. The temperature is dropping again and the strong cold gusts of air are nipping at your poor cheeks.
“The weather is getting worse….I know we hate each other, but its Christmas Eve and your flight was cancelled please come inside.”
He doesn’t respond at first and you fear that he may actually walk out into the storm and you wold have to chase him down. But he slowly turns around and instead of a “I knew you would give in eventually” look, he just looks a little dumbfounded while he stares at you in your doorway.
Steadily, he walks back up to the porch and up the wooden steps where you are waiting for him holding the door open wider and motioning him to come in. Carefully he takes a large step into your house and is immediately feels the warmth hit his body.
“You are going to catch a cold.” you say under your breath while he wipes his boots on the welcome mat.
“No I’m not, I am a super solider remember?” he glances over at you with a crooked smile.
“Well I am not a super solider, shut the door.” he sees you point to the door and he closes it shutting out the stormy weather. When he turns back around he suddenly realizes something off, he notices instantly that you are walking weird. Your body was stiff and rigid, your hands began to hold onto the walls as you walked down the hall. The legs wobbled as the feet took each step very slowly while you limped.
He opened his mouth to voice concern but he then closes it abruptly. Oh. Thats right, you had been shot. It happened early in November, when you were tasked to protect an foreign ambassador while he was on a diplomatic mission representing his state. There was an assassination attempt on his life and you nearly lost yours when you shielded him from the wave of bullets, while getting shot in the stomach in the process. The last time he saw you, you were being rolled into the ER while the doctors were preforming CPR. He was told you lived but he didn’t see you after that for you had turned in early till the end of the year. He had tried to get that memory out of his head. Guilt began to push up his throat and he now felt a bit guilty snapping at you in your condition.
“You want something warm to drink?” you ask over your shoulder.
“That would be great thanks.” he speaks softer while setting his bag on the ground without taking his eyes off of you. He steps silently behind while he follows you into the kitchen, he flinches and holds out his hands every time you wobble or slide. Rounding the corner he stands behind the counter while he watches you hobble over to some kitchen cabinets. Stepping on your tippy toes Bucky scurries over to your side in a flash, not allowing you to stretch your body as you reach for a mug. He is quick to grab it before you get a change to react, spinning around you lean back on the marble counter.
“I want this one.” he says playing it off. You raise an eye brow and looked down at the mug in his palm.
“Worlds greatest Aunt?” you as smirking.
“What can I say? I am the worlds greatest aunt.”
Letting out a huff in amusement you take the mug from his hands, he feels your fingers, they are freezing. He looks around the dark kitchen while you begin to pace over to the stove.
“Coffee?”
“Decaf, please.”
He sits at the table while a cup of hot coffee in his hands, he takes a few sips while watching you fiddle around cleaning things up in the kitchen. The atmosphere is very awkward, he doesn’t really know what to say to her an apology should be on the top of his list. But with his anxiety unfortunately building up with each passing second he remains silent with his lips pressed together in a firm line.
“Were you expecting someone else when you opened the door?” He finally speaks after an eternity passes.
“Pardon?” you ask while setting down a wash rag.
“Were you expecting to see someone different at the door? I mean you seemed a little too happy.”
“As a matter a fact, I was. The pizza man.” he hears you laugh.
“You ordered pizza? On Christmas Eve? At this hour? Isn’t everything closed?” Bucky chuckles.
“You would think. But this place is a 24/7 pizza restaurant, and its even open on Christmas Eve so I decided to treat myself to the cheesy goodness of an extra large pizza.”
“You’re ridiculous.”
“And I didn’t just order a pizza I’ll have you know, I also got some wings and some cheese sticks.”
Bucky lets out a loud laugh and throws his head back while you just stand there with the biggest guilty smirk on your face. A loud doorbell interrupts his laughing fit and he stiffens up to the sound as he watches you limp towards the door. “Speaking of a healthy Christmas dinner…” he hears you say. Leans his body off the chair slightly he watches carefully as you pay quickly for your food and the pizza boy scurries back into the storm.
“You hungry?” he hears you ask as you walk back into the kitchen with a few piles of boxes. The smell immediately runs into his nose and his mouth begins to water as you open each box on the counter.
“Nah.” he lies. A loud growl from the super soldiers stomach catches her ears and he slightly slumps in the chair embarrassed.
“Are you sure?” she chuckles.
“Shut up.”
“Well I guess if you’re not hungry… I will dig in then.” She begins to chew on a slice of pizza and Bucky’s hunger pains begin to get worse in his stomach. It doesn’t help that she is making slight moans when she eats with overly amplified chewing sounds just to get a reaction out of him.
After a few painful moments of watching her eat he finally stands up in his chair and stomps over to the counter. He rips the slice of pizza out of her hands and takes a big bite while she you just laugh with a mouth full of food. His body melts while he quickly devours the pizza and reaches for some cheese stick and chows them down.
*
The two of you sat on the carpet of the living room, the lights were dim and the flickering from the muted television illuminated the empty boxes that lay on the wooden coffee table. Your backs were pressed to the couch while warm blankets and pillows were scattered around on the floor. A christmas movie played silently while you both sat there will full bellies and tired eyes watching the quiet film.
“I think that was the best Christmas dinner I have ever had.” Bucky spoke up.
“Please, don’t be ridiculous.” you huffed out a laugh.
“I’m being serious. I am always by myself or with Steve over the holidays, and although I love Steve, I can’t stand his cooking. This is more laid back and familiar, makes me feel like I’m at home again.”
“Oh, you had pizza for christmas dinner in the 40s?” You mocked turning your head to look at him.
“Nah, we would always have an over salted ham and some beans that Ma made that I never cared for, I would have rather had this. I am gunna have to make this a tradition.”
Snorting you let out a laugh and he couldn’t help the feel of red creeping up his cheeks as he watched you giggle at his dorkiness. Bucky watches you as your laughs slowly die down, slowly you sit up slightly hugging your knees to your chest.
“What are you doing Y/N?” He says out of nowhere with sadness in his tone.
“What do you mean?” you asked him curiously.
“I mean, what are you doing here. all by yourself? Why aren’t you with family or friends?” Shrugging, you glance down and wiggle your toes though the blanket, Bucky feels wrong for asking that question so suddenly. He wants to take it back while watching you contemplate your answer in your head.
“I usually spend the holidays getting drunk very slowly and sleeping for days.”
“Oh thats nice.” Bucky lets out a breath of air. “How do you usually spend Christmas?”
“By myself. Well, Last christmas I spent it on an assassination job in Slovakia getting shot at but…I don’t have a family to spend it with, I have been by myself for a long time.”
“I’m sorry.” Bucky states quietly and looks down at the floor.
“Don’t be. Don’t be going all soft on me now.” he feels you nudge his arm softly and he gives you a smirk.
“Doesn’t it get lonely sometimes?”
“I would be lying if I said it didn’t.” he sees your sad smile.
You throw your hands up in the air and stretch your limbs out, a satisfied groan leaves your libs and the arms fall back into place. “I am not much of a christmas person anyway…”
“Is that why your house is so dull compared to your neighbors?” he slightly teases.
“Thats right, just thought there wasn’t a point to celebrate it when I had no one to celebrate it with.”
He suddenly feels sad at your words and realizes that this whole time you have been living a lonely life with no one to share it with. He thinks back to all the recent Christmases he had spent with Steve only only to think that you were all alone that entire time. Bucky feels bad about complaining about what he had when he now sees that you had nothing.
“Well now you do.” He smiles at you.
“Yea.” you smile back. “In fact, this is the first time in a long time that I have had company over for the holiday, or even my house for that matter…”
Your voice trails off and you become silent, a bright commercial flashes on the screen and he watches you look around at the table distracting yourself from Bucky pitiful gaze. Standing up quite slowly you shed the blanket off your shoulders and throw it onto his lap while he watches.
“Well, I am going to clean up and throw these boxes away.” you speak avoiding his eyes.
“I’ll help…” he begins but you cut him off.
“No, no, its alright I got it. Its wont take long, I will be right back.”
Stretching the arms you reach to quickly grab all of the greasy boxes and stacking them on one another before limping out of the room. Grabbing the blanket he pulls it over his legs keeping your warmth intact for you while he listening to the awkward footsteps hobble down the hall.
*
Bucky knows something is wrong immediately when he hears a faint thump, the sound wouldn’t have been heard if he didn’t have enhanced hearing, but a thump is what he hears and he feels his guts turn the instant he heard it. You had been gone for quite a while, after a couple of minutes of hearing you wobbling in the kitchen he expected you to return right away but you didn’t and that made him uneasy.
Standing up fast, he listens carefully to the world around him trying to hear any other sounds. Suddenly he hears a muffled whimper and he darts out of the room, his heart beating hard in his chest as he rounds the corner. He stops fast when he sees you and panic fills him up to the core as he sees your crumpled form hunched over on the ground.
“Y/N.” he breaths out slow. He doesn’t get a response instead he hears a painful cry leave your lips.
In a flash he is next to you trying to pull you up to take a look at your face but the body is stiff and your head ducked low to the floor. “Y/N?” he asks while his hands roam your body trying to inspect any sign of damage. “Y/N?” this time his tone is full of fear. “Hey, hey, are you alright?” Bucky hears you say something under your breath but even his super hearing can’t make out what you said.
“What? Whats wrong? Y/N, tell me whats wrong.”
“…pills.” you painfully mutter out only to wince at your words.
“What?” he asks confused.
“pills…my pills.” he sees your hand shake as you point to the stairs.
“Where?” he asks sternly.
“…Dresser.”
He lets go abruptly and your body falls even more as he sprints up the stairs, finding your room he grabs a couple of pill bottles off the dresser and runs back down and kneels back down on the floor in front of you. “Which one? Which one?” he asks almost in a panic. Bucky sees you shakily point to the bottle with a blue lid and he practically rips the top off of the bottle to retrieve a pill. Putting the pill in your fingers he runs to the kitchen while the shakes fingers place the pill on your tongue. Running back he carries a cup of water in his hand and lifts up your chin and places the cup to your lips to help you drink. After a moment of watching you breath, he sets the items down and props your body up against the wall. Anxiety was still laced in his system and he had to take measures of his own to calm an impending panic attack.
“What happened?” He finally asks after calming down.
“My medicine wore off… I tried to catch myself before I took a digger. But I guess I ended up eating the floor.” He knows you are trying to play it off, he sensed embarrassment in your tone but also pain. Bucky sees your eyes closed shut as the head leans back onto the wall, your fingers grip at your gut hard while a fake smirk is plastered on your face. He scotched next to you and leans his head back against the wall spreading his legs out on the floor of the hallway.
“Its my fault.” He regretfully says though his teeth. The eyes open and you turn to look at him.
“What it?” you ask softly.
“Its my fault that you got shot.”
“What? No its not, what are you talking about? You didn’t shoot me, you had nothing to do with it.”
“I was supposed to be assigned with you that day, but I refused because I didn’t want to be teamed up with you because…” he trailed off. “…instead I sent a rookie into the field. I though that it would a good learning experience for him, but he ended up getting killed. Its all my fault. Its my fault that you got shot, and its my fault that you are in so much pain.”
“Bucky.” you said sternly, he turned his head to look into your eyes. “There was nothing you could have done, Yes, maybe if you were there I wouldn’t have gotten shot, but something else could have happened. Who knows? But none of that was your fault. Don’t put the blame on yourself. I didn’t die, I’m still here, and now…” You pointed to your stomach. “…..I have a good conversation starter dinner parties.”
“You’re so stupid.” he laughs and turns away. “You don’t go to dinner parties.”
“Well, if I ever did, thats what I would lead with.” you smiled up at him with beaming eyes.
*
Bucky carried you back to the living room for the legs were too weak to move, he placed you on the couch and covered you with the handmade blanket. Slowly the body begins to stop shaking and he seats right down next to you with his arm around your shoulders as you snuggle into him. Its late and the chimes from the grandfather clock fill the house while the snow silently hits the windows from outside.
“Looks like that storm isn’t going to pass for another few days.” he says looking out the window.
“Thats alright I have room, we can wait it out.” you smile and he tucks some hair behind your ear.
“I am glad I got to spend the holidays with someone, even if its with someone I hate.” He teases beaming down at you.
“I hate you Bucky.” she smiles and her head falls on his shoulder.
Bucky pulls your hair back and kisses your forehead.
“I hate you too. Merry Christmas Y/N.”
“Merry Christmas Bucky.”
-End!

Poem #3
The pebbles ripple in the pool At the bottom thats where you will find my heart Filled with agony and pain You turned me away to take another Now I am noting more than a joke to you Nothing feels the same anymore You don’t see me the same anymore I float at the bottom trying to swim up for air But I cannot breath It hurts to move It hurts to breath The more I struggle The faster I sink You become further and further away You laugh with her as I slip away The water fills my lugs The cold makes my muscles shake Am I selfish for wanting you? Am I just a fool for thinking that we could become something more? The eyes bat away at me They always turn their heads and laugh Water is becoming so dark The light is almost gone just like you I will wander at the bottom for ages Please don’t take too long I don’t know how long I can last I will be waiting for you

I won’t leave you
Title: I won’t leave you Paring : Legolas x Reader Summary: Legolas aids you when the village is under attack my orcs word count: 3,172 warnings: blood, violence, maybe fluff? A/N : Alright part 2! Have you read Part 1?
masterlist
The village was quiet at night, the footsteps one took were canceled out in the snow and drew silence from the ears. The elves were gone and the unfortunate feeling of loneness was once again filling the mind as the body shook in the cold air. The town was quiet and calm, everyone had turned in for the night and the only sounds that could be heard were faint voices that were coming from inside the houses. Smoke was rising from the chimneys and disappearing in the air, the body was begging for warmth. Soon your feet approached an Inn, the establishment was wedged in between a a couple of small cottages. After renting a room for the night you were finally able to rest in piece, stripping off your cold clothes you set them on a chair that was near the brick fire place decorated with a wooden mantel. Carefully pulling off your tunic, the hands were carful not to graze the bound wrist and open the wound. Sitting at the edge of the bed wearing nothing put a simple under gown, you stared at your injury that the kind stranger had wrapped up for you. The flame from the fire made the silky fabric shimmer and your eyes danced around it. You could still see Legolas’s eyes when you closed your own, his soft gaze and those piercing blues starring back at you. The finger tips ran over the bounded injury and the skin mimicked the kid strangers touch. Never in your life had you been face to face with an Elf before, they were almost a fairy tale to you for Elves typically never interacted with humans on purpose. Crawling under the layers of blankets and animal skins you wrapped your arms around a pillow and squeezed it tight. The mysterious man was all that you could think about, placing your hand over your wrist you gently massaged the cloth until your eyes shut. You weren’t sleeping for long when you jolted up from the bed when screams began to echo outside. Running over to the window your eyes widened in fear from the scene in front of you. Houses were burning, fire was every where and was eating everything in sight, chaos was erupting. People were running and screaming through the streets while being slaughtered by Orcs who were right on their heals. Gasping you took a step back and held yourself as a shiver shot though your body. A mans voice ran out from the hall screaming that the village was under attack and more Orcs were on their way. Quickly you gathered up your clothes and threw them on as fast as you could with shaking hands and legs. People loud steps were growing from all around as they began to flee their rooms in a awful panic. Grabbing your cape you twirled and tied it securely around yourself and opened the door to the hall. People were yelling all though the Inn telling the towns people to evaluate and head for the river knowing very well that Orcs can’t swim. Running down the hall with a few others you stopped at a wooden rail that was a balcony, it over looked the lower levels of the building. A old man was standing near the entrance tying to calm everyone down, he began to interact everyone to head to the river and travel in large groups and make sure the women and children left first. “Everyone calm yourselves! We all need to stick together! Get the woman and children down to the river at once so we can get them on the boats safety!” A pounding sound came from the room a an awful shriek came out from the other side. The room became quieter as the pounding became harder and louder, the screams begged to be let in. The pleaded voice was of a frightened woman and her fists slammed on the other side of the door while everyone stood in silence. But just then in a instance her screams came to an abrupt end and something fell hard to the ground behind the opening. Everyone held their breath as only distant screams could be heard now, the elderly man began to stride toward the entry hands grasping the handle to open. “No! Don’t!” you screamed leaning over the railing. But it was too late, the doors broke open and the man was instantly cut down as Orcs came flooding into the entrance and began to slaughter everyone in sight. Everyone scattered as all hell broke loose in the Inn, Orcs came barreling up the steps killing anyone that stood in their way. Terrified you fled down the fall ducking to try and make yourself scarce from the action taking place downstairs. Rounding a corner the legs took you down another stair case, slamming your body into the door you suddenly found yourself outside the Inn. The snow was falling hard from the sky now and the cold breeze suddenly found you and it felt that every inch of your flesh was screaming to go back inside where it was warm. Running down the ally way the eyes widen as you entered the street seeing the chaos unfolding in front of you. Bodies littered in the snow while blood stained the white covered streets, civilians screamed while Orcs raced after the humans. “Get to the boats!” you heard a man scream while you held onto the side of the brick wall frozen in place. The man across the street was yelling to you but you refused to move out of fright. An Orc was then alerted of your presence and began to charge at you with sword in hand, screaming you tried to reach down to your sword but the fear was paralyzing you. Before the creature could take any more steps forward it was struck down by the man who had bolted to your rescue from across the street. Blood puddled at your feet as the corpse lay in front of you, the man grabbed you by the amor and begun to pull you to the street. “Madam you need to get to the boats at once! You will be safe there! Follow this road down to the lake!” he sternly instructed you. Growling sounds were becoming louder as more of them came running in your direction. “Hurry! Go!” he yelled pushing you away from him. The legs screamed as you began to sprint down the road, bodies littered the ground and blood was seeping into the fresh snow. A small cry made you abruptly stop in your steps, looking down you gasped when you saw a toddler laying on the chest of her dead mother. Hunching down you gathered the small tot in your arms and held her close to your chest while wrapping your cloak around her to keep her warm. She sobbed into your neck while you stood up and looked around for help watching as more civilians fearfully ran past you toward the dock. “Some one help me please!” A woman screams moved though the air. Wiping around you saw a woman holding her two young daughters behind her while four giant orcs began to corner them into a alleyway. Unsheathing your sword you creeped up behind them and with one swift motion you stabbed one of the monsters through the heart killing him. He fell to the ground and the others looked on in shock as you ran over to the woman handing her the small child and pushing her behind you. Holding the sword up your arms shook in fear and the orcs began to laugh at your state. “Tiny human. Pathetic.” the once snarled in this teeth while taking large steps toward you. Stepping forward you sung your sword at him but he swayed back avoiding your attack. His large hand came flying at your head and he knocked your body hard into the brick wall head first. The sword dropped out of your hands and your body slid down the wall while blood began to run down your scalp and dripping down to your ears. The family behind you screamed and took a step back terrified while they watched the Orc lift you up by the hair. Squirming in his grasp you whelped at the hair pulling pain, he bent down to eye level and showed you his teeth and licked his chops. “Now, you die.” he growled and pulling a knife up holding it close to your cheek. The fingers scratched at the harsh hand that gripped around your neck, you tried desperately to squirm away while kicking your legs but it didn’t work. The knife inched near your face and you shut your eyes in fear while the family screamed watching as he prepared to slaughter you. A sharp slicing sound pierced the air followed by horse wet couch and the fingers began to loosen their grip. Opening your eyes slowly you were shocked to find the orc staring straight at you with a arrowing sticking though his throat and warm green blood gushing from the hole. Looking up you saw a group of Elves on the roof above you shooting arrows in all directions, one elf in particular caught your eye as he jumped down to the ground. You knew those blue eyes and silver locks anywhere. “Legolas!” you cried in relief as he approached the group. The elves began slicing the monsters down with a few slashes of a sword. His movements were so graceful and light while he patted toward you. Grabbing the dead Orc by the shoulders he ripped him off of you and threw his body to the side. “Are you alright?” he asked carefully bending down to you resheathing the sword. Your eyes followed the other elves as they jumped off the roof and assist the family and run into the streets taking down more creatures. “Y/N!” he called out while gently grabbing your chin forcing you to look at him. “Are you alright?” he asked again, this time with a slight desperation laced his tone. “I am okay.” you grabbed his wrists with your palms while he turned your head inspecting you. His eyes narrowed as he found blood in your hair and noticed the harsh scratch in your scalp. “How come every time we meet I always find you bleeding?” he sighed but gave you a sad smile. “Well, we have only met twice.” you leaned into his hand and chuckled. Pulling you up you watched as some Elves escorted the woman and the small children to the streets and began to lead them down to the boats. They were safe now and a breath of relief let your lips along with a shiver, now that your cloak was gone the temperate seemed to feel colder. He took off his cape and threw it around your shoulders and clipping it in the front with the silver leaf pin adorned at the edges. “When did you get here?” you inquired as you pulled your arms under the warmth. “I smelled Orcs stench heading toward the village and I knew something wrong.” He put his hand on your lower back and began to guide you out into the street. More Orcs bodies littered the ground and the distant cries of help were dying down in the wind now doubt because of the elves. “Lets get you out of here.” Legolas wrapped his arm around your shoulder and kept you close keeping his body close to yours as the two of you pushed though the snow. A loud roar made the two of you jump and you suddenly found yourself being thrown onto the ground with a great force. With your head shooting up you looked around seeing Legolas a few meters away grabbing arrows out of his arrow bag. A giant Orc stood above you, he looked down upon your form and gained widely showing off its crooked teeth. He was ginormous, this monster was much bigger than the others you had seen. He was decorated in gleaming metal armor and he seemed to carry an importance to him. Rolling over you held your side with your hands rubbing the screaming muscles from where the creature had just hit you. “Y/N get away from it!” you heard him yell while he pulled back the bow string and fired. The arrow went directly into its eye and it let out an agitated growl as it stepped back. Struggling to get up your legs carried you over to him, his hand instantly pushed you behind him while the Orc pulled the arrow out of his eye and threw it to the ground in a bloody heap. “Y/N, when I give the word, you get out of here and go to the docks. Understand?” The elf spoke quietly over his shoulder to you. Fearfully, you nodded and fiddled with the fabric of the cape while watching the Orc eye up the two of you. The world felt like it stopped in that moment and the only thing you could hear was the thumping of your heart and the frantic breaths leaving your lips. The creature hunched over slightly ready to charge and a sudden shot of adrenaline pupped though your body. “Now!” Legolas screamed and you began to sprint away while the Orc bolted toward the elf. Cold air filled your lungs and blood rushed in your ears as you followed the houses down the hill. The docks were in sight when suddenly you abruptly stopped in your tracks. A sudden guilt feeling was creeping up into your throat and your conscious was screaming at you to go back. Turning around you looked back up the hill seeing the glow from the burning houses. Legolas saved your life twice now and you were running away like a coward while he fought off the enemy, how pathetic. “Lady what are you doing get in the boats!” a man screamed at you toward the docks becoming you down the hill. But in that moment you found yourself running back up the hill with no thought in your mind other than Legolas. The legs carried you back just in the nick of time, Legolas was being held up by the neck while the Orc was dragging a spiked club in the snow. Gasping in fear you scanned the ground for something, anything that could help you save the Elf. The eyes lit up as you dug in the ground to find a elvish sword laying in the soft snow. Picking it up in your ice cold hands you ran as fast as you could and rammed the pointed weapon into the creatures side. Screaming the monster dropped Legolas to the ground and pulled back as you jumped away circling around to help the elf. Legolas held his head with his hand in a disoriented manner as you tried to pick him up off the ground. Once he registered what was going on he quickly glanced at you and grabbed back. “What are you still doing here Y/N! You need to get out of here right now!” he desperately asked. The Orc began to growl once again as you began to take steps away with Legolas in your arms. “I thought you could use my help. It looked like you needed it. Looks like sometimes Elves need saving too.” you smiled. But he was not amused by your sly tone instead he shot you a disapproving look that made your cheeks feel warm. The monster ripped the sword out and threw it away and grabbed the club holding it tight in his clutches. “Y/N, get out of here!” Legolas begged and pulled a small knife out of his belt holding it up in the air. “No!” you protested while grabbing onto his tunic. “Go!” he yelled. The Orc began to charge at the two of you. “No! I wont leave you!” you yelled back at him in a equally harsh tone. Legolas let out a yell and spun you around behind him and suddenly stabbed the orc into the chest with the dagger. The large monsters form loomed over the two of you as Legolas pushed harder and harder into the chest of the orc while blood seemed into the snow. Slowly he collapsed into the snow, the thump made you jump and step back. Legolas stood above him and ripped the knife out of the chest and rubbed the blood off onto the fabric of his now wrinkled tunic. Stepping back to look at you he let out a exhausted smile and put the dagger away and held out his hand to you. “The next time I tell you to get out of here, will you just listen to me next time?” Shrugging you stepped over the large creatures arm and took hold of the elf hand. His hand was warm and a feeling of warmth filled your body as he tugged you away from the corpse. But a rustling noise made you stop, spinning your head around you hardly had time to react. The Orc was upright swaying from side to side, you screamed and you weren’t sure what happened next. A large arm came barreling though the air, pushing Legolas out of the way the world spun and you found yourself looking up at the sky. Snowflakes fell and the gray clouds were moving about sometimes reveling the stars up above. There were sounds all around but they seemed distant and faint as you lay there on the ground stating up at the deep blue sky. “No, No, No, No, No, Y/N!” A voice shouted but your head refused to move. Legolas came into your line of sight and you smiled at him but it didn’t last long when you saw the panic written all over his features. That was when you felt it, your left side felt warm and tingly, a stinging sensation was crawling down your skin. It was when you realized that you were bleeding, looking down slightly you saw it a huge gash in your right side where the Orc has swiped you. Legolas lifted your head up and brought it closer to his looking around suddenly speaking to approaching footsteps in a tongue that you couldn’t understand. His words were coming in and out now and the body was feeling colder and colder while the wind screamed. “It hurts.” you whispered and his eyes suddenly shot down to your own. “Keep your eyes open for me. Y/N. Keep looking at me.” he pleaded. But your eyes left his and instead looked at his beautiful gray hair glowing in the moonlight. The snowflakes seem to stick onto them so gently and gracefully it was almost godlike. “Y/N.” The night sky was so beautiful you thought to yourself while the darkness began to swallow you up and your eyes fluttered shut.

You wake up the next morning with an excruciating pain in your lower stomach. Your insides felt like they were burning and there was a stabbing feeling in your muscles that was tingling though out the area. Kicking the covers off you in a hurry you ran to the bathroom, hunching over you threw up in the toilet. Gripping the sides of the toilet bowl your body shivered and felt hot at the same time. With trembling lips you coughed up some more fluid from your mouth as River came running into the bathroom. Your dog picked up on the fact that something was wrong and began to trot nervously around the room quietly winning to herself.
Yesterdays events still lingered in your mind and made you nervous to think about. Falling to your knees you sat on the floor of the bathroom occasionally vomiting when you felt it coming back up your throat. You felt sick, not the nervous sick, although that certainly did play a part. No, you felt sickly, like your whole body was being attacked by all the worlds diseases at the same time. After your run in with Fury yesterday you decided to go right to bed and refused to go to Bruce much to Bucky’s dismay. He kept bugging you to go and get checked right away fearing that you may be hurt but you kept insisting you were fine. You didn’t want to go to Banner, deep down you were beginning to feel a sense of betrayal and disloyalty coming from him and it made you too emotional. No, you couldn’t see him right now, especially if he had told Fury. You had locked yourself in your room with River while you napped and told Friday not to let anyone disturb you for you were too exhausted and worn out to see anyone. Bruce came to your flat almost instantly and tried to persuade you to let him in to see you but you didn’t answer and hid in your bed with River snuggling between your legs.
After spending some time on the floor, and making sure you weren’t going to throw up again you rose to your feet. Wobbling and holding onto the wall you walked out trotting over to your floor length mirror that was hanging on the back of your closet. Looking at yourself in the mirror you noticed that your color was off in your face, you looked unusually pale and you had purple under your eyes. Eyeing your stomach you steadily grabbed at your shirt and lifted it up ever so slightly.
Gasping you looked at your stomach too see a plethora of purple blue veins protruding from your skin around the area where you got shot with the day before. A small welt formed where the needle had pierced your skin and your fingers trailed over the wound to inspect it. A burning sensation fills your body and your flesh, you wince at the contact of your fingers and the wound. Lowering your shirt back down you grab a sweatshirt that is laying on your floor and pull it over you to hide yourself.
The next couple of days were hectic, people were running around the compound and conferences were constant. Your days were full of meeting and constant questioning by officials and other members of the team. You were getting so sick of telling everyone the same story over and over again, it was becoming a hassle for you. When you came back Sam had found out what happened and hurried back from his outing to see you and became concerned when you shut yourself away. Bucky had persuaded him after a long drawn out argument that this is what you needed to be left alone for a while. But Sam would counter and say that it was the wasn’t helping at all and was the exact opposite thing you needed.
Things finally calmed down after four or five days and you could walk around freely with out getting tangled up in a conversation about getting attacked by Hydra on the street. In that time however you were feeling worse and worse, you would throw up every morning and couldn’t keep anything down. The veins on your body were getting harsher and more painful and it was getting to the point where you could no longer touch your skin because of how much it hurt. But non the less you kept pretending that you were fine and tired to continue your normal activates like usual.
One morning a few days later you had woken up much later that usual and was siting on the couch staring off into space. Sleeping was pretty much the only thing you were doing recently, you couldn’t do anything else, you felt too sick. Bucky walked in and hurried over to you and sat down on the table in front of you.
“Hey.” he smiled.
“Hi.” you smiled back.
“How are you feeling?” he asked fiddling with his fingers. He was still visibly shaken up from the prior events a few days before.
“Alright I guess.” you answered.
“So, I wanted to ask you something.” he stated. You didn’t like were this was going. “I wanted to ask you about what happened a few days ago with you and Fury.” Your eyes left his and you played with the blanket that was draped over you.
“Oh. That. I don’t want to talk about it.” you stated as gently as possible.
“Alright. Well, if you want to talk about it, I’m here for you okay?”
You let out a small breath you didn’t even know you were holding and made eye contact with him once more nodding your head. There was an awkward silence for a moment until he spoke.
“Do you want to come down to the gym and spar? Maybe some exercise will do you some good?” he wondered. You really didn’t want to but his eyes pleaded for your presence and you knew you were making the mistake on accepting his offer.
“Yea sure, alright.”
“Great. I’ll see you down there in a few minutes!” he stood up and left the room in a hurry and a pain shot though your stomach and you whimpered. It took you forever to change, it was such a struggle to pull your clothes on because of how bad your skin hurt. Instead of wearing just your sports bra and sweats to training you decided it was wise to throw on an old t-shirt to cover the wounded flesh.
Taking your time down to the gyms you finally arrived and pushed open to doors to see Bucky at the weights waiting for you. Looking around you saw Sam standing in the corner with some other agents mumbling something to them that you couldn’t hear.
“Y/N!” Bucky happily hopped over to you and looked you over. “Ready?” he asked.
“Sure.” you threw down your bag on a bench that was near the wall. Walking over to a large blue mat that was on the floor you took your usual spot on the other side of Bucky a few feet away. He got in position and slightly hunched over ready to charge, gulping you clenched your clammy fists. Sweat was already forming on your forehead and the body temperature felt like it suddenly spiked. In the corner of your eye you could see Sam and the others standing on the side lines ready to watch.
In an instant he charged at you and began to throw punches your way, the entire time instead of swinging back you dodged the hits and moved away. This was unusual behavior for you and everyone in the room knew it instantly, you were never the one to play chicken in fights. On the contrary you would always have the upper hand, your speed was unmatched and no one really stood a chance except for Bucky.
After about a couple moments of dodging his attacks you finally decided to fight back, turning your eyes blue your body disappeared and reappeared right behind him. But in that moment you felt sick, a stomach turning pain filled the insides and you were frozen in place. The brain felt like it had been thrown into over drive.
Bucky whipped around and took your legs out from under neath making the body fall down to the matt hard. Rolling to the side you could feel your eyes drift in and out with your powers and abruptly you teleported once more a few feet away. “Come on Buck, take it easy on her!” Sam cupped his hands and shouted your way. “She is being difficult!” Bucky laughed turning to see you still on the ground. “She is the one who keep being a wossy!” He playfully laughs while he begins to lurk around your form still on the ground. Struggling to push yourself up the arms begins to shake and the breathing picks up, your entire skin feels like it is on fire.
With one swift motion you get to your feet and begin to spar with him, however taking more hits that usual. Every time his fists would hit your skin it felt your whole body was getting hit by a large truck, the excurutating pain that was pulsing through your skin hurt so bad.
Bucky’s leg kicks up fast and your instants were to teleport away, with glowing eyes your body discinigrated in mid air. Reappearing behind him and taking a step back you waited for him to spin around when suddenly you went deaf. There was no noise, just a high pitched ringing sound that screamed though the ears.
Holding your ears you let out a small shriek as your eyes refused to corporate and go back to normal. You would feel your powers switching on and off by its self out of control, chaos was taking over your mind. In that moment your eyes darted around for help but instead of stabling you teleported and slammed into a wall.
“Y/N! Shit! What the hell? Are you alright?” Sam jumped and ran toward you.
“Oh my god!” Bucky came bolting towards your hunched over body.
Their voices were distant in your mind and echoed in the brain, the high pitched sound began to get louder and louder. Your eye lids squeezed open and shut while the glowing of your powers remained to flicker and your vision was scattered. Bucky came immediately to your side and grabbed onto you to keep you steady while placing his hand on the back of your head. But the moment he touched you the body recoiled and scurried away and your breathing became more rapid as you fought for control.
There was blood on the wall behind you from how hard you fell and the warm liquid was running down the back of the scalp. You weren’t really sure what happened, one second you are on the mat and the next you had slammed into the brick wall, you felt your authority over your powers slipping. Sam stood behind Barnes watching in horror as the unusual behavior continued.
“Are you okay? Hey, Y/N talk me to me.” Bucky tried to grab at you again but you jolted away from his grasp.
“Don’t…” you stuttered.
“Y/N please.” Bucky tried reaching again but you pilled away. Panic laced you words and vomit was creeping up your throat and you struggled to keep to down. “I…I am okay.” you lied. “What happened?” You heard Sam ask. “Y/N?” Clenching your stomach a wave of emotions pulled though you and you did your best to try and hide your face from them. “I’m okay.” Bucky looked back at Sam and he motioned one of the agents to get help, Sam bent down at eye level. He knew that standing above someone during an episode was a bad idea, it was best to be at eye level with them or possibly even lower.
“Y/N. You need to tell me whats wrong. I can’t help you if I don’t know whats wrong.” Sam said softly.
The wall felt like it was eating the body, the stares from the men were knives stabbing into your soul. You wanted to just leave, run away and hide. Looking up abruptly you forced your eyes to glow and looked toward the door that was open to the hallway. Bucky shouted for you to stay and he tried to grab you but you were too quick and in a split second you were gone.
Landing on your knees in the hallway you let out a grunt of pain and held your stomach as you looked down the empty halls. Standing up your legs carried you down the hall, but as you rounded the corner your powers acted up again and you nearly flew down a flight of stairs landing on the floor. Bucky’s yells for you were echoing throughout the halls and eventually you found the way back to the living quarters and locked yourself away in your room once more. A few moments later Bucky came barreling into the apartment after you still sweaty and in his training clothes. He approached your door and yelled for you, but when you didn’t answer and the only thing he heard was Rivers wines he called for Friday to let him in with an override code. The lock clicked and the door flew open and his eyes locked onto you sitting on the edge of your bed holding the back of the head with your hands. Swooping down he forcefully inspected your gash and you had no energy left to push him away.
Surprisingly he didn’t say a word but his eyes spoke more to you than anything that he could have said. Sprinting to the kitchen he ran back in with a frozen bag of peas and a few paper towels. Tilting your head to the side he brushed your hair away and cleaned the blood off your scalp and held the towels there to patch up the wound. Sitting on the bed with you he held the cold bag onto your head while you leaned into him.
River lay next to your thighs, her head up on your leg letting out small whimpers of concern for your condition. She could sense something was off the moment you came back from getting attacked on the street.
Bucky sat still next to you, his body warmth radiating heat onto your body which had begun to shiver. His fingers were constant though the scalp, pulling hair away from the cut on the skin and holding the ice pack onto your head. After some time you felt yourself melt onto him, your head falling on his shoulder and his arm looping around your body to hold you close and upright. You became increasing distant as the week dragged on and no one saw much of you. The time was mostly spent hunched over your toilet puking and sleeping the hours away trying to pass the time. The couch you shared with Bucky was the only place you would inhabit, he would come back every night to already find you sleeping in your usual spot with River at your feet. He was becoming worried at your behavior and was beginning to consider getting a higher power involved if it continued.
Bucky began asking you about what Fury said and he was becoming very persistent. So persistent to the point where you were avoiding him more that you already were. Anytime he walked into a room you would slip away quietly, if you were alone with him in the apartment you would make sure not to run into him. That was all he wanted to talk about and it was annoying you to the point that you began to avoid him just like everyone else.
The next day was different however, you were sitting on a stool in the kitchen alone like usual. You hadn’t spoken to anyone in about seventy two hours and the calls from Banner over Fridays communication systems were becoming all too frequent. Lost in thought your eyes were glued to your steaming cup of tea that was in front of you as the glow from your eyes were going in and out. “Y/N we need to talk.” Bucky came barging into the kitchen with loud footsteps. His tone was harsh and his body was tense and the atmosphere instantly became unnerving.
“I don’t want to talk Barnes.” you quickly retort without looking up and squeezing the bridge of your nose. The hands brought the magazine you were reading closer to your face and the body slumped over in the chair. “Fine, then I’ll talk you listen. Ever since you got back from Tony’s lab and got attacked you haven’t been the same. You have been acting strange and we are all worried about you.” He walked right up to you inches away from your body waving his hands in the air.
“I’m okay Buck, really. Don’t worry about it.” you turned a page.
“No your not, and too bad cause I am worrying about it. You have been acting strange, you have been avoiding me, Sam, and Bruce! Why are you avoiding Bruce? He is worried sick about you!”
“No, I’m not.” you said plainly.
“Damn it Y/N! Yes you are! Quit pushing me away! You need to stop shutting us out! We are just trying to help you! I kept replaying everything over and over again in my head to try and figure out what is going on with you and the only conclusion I can come to is your meeting with Fury. What did Fury say to you?” He began pointing in an accusing manner and you weren’t taking any of it. “Just leave it alone okay?” you snarled putting down the paper.
Hopping off the chair you begin to leave the kitchen when Bucky grabs your wrist and spins you around to look at him. The skin screams and your guts turn as you make uncomfortable eye contact with him. He is standing so close to you and his grip is harsh and somehow the look in his eyes changed and you were losing Bucky in his own gaze.
“No! Not this time, you are going to tell me what they said to you. Something they said to you spooked you, if it didn’t you wouldn’t be acting like this. What did they say to you?”
“No Barnes!” You shoved his arms off of you with a shake of the shoulders but he didn’t back away.
“Just tell me!” He angrily pleaded.
“No!”
“Why not?” He lifted up his arms in annoyance.
“Its…Its not…just… Its for your own good okay? I am trying to protect you!” You yelled out your jumbled words at him. Bucky looked at you for a moment processing your words, he suddenly let out a amused breath which made you flinch.
“Protect me?” He began. Anger filled his voice, it was a whole other level of anger you had never seen nor heard before.
“I don’t need protection! Especially not from you! I don’t need you! I don’t need you to protect me! If you don’t want to talk about it, fine! But just know this…” Bucky gets in close, and you could practically feel his hot breath on your skin. “I can take care of myself and I don’t need you looking after me.” he growled.
Shivering at his words your eyes widen at his you take a step back from him while slowly wrapping your arms around your body. His crystal blue eyes look down upon you and after a long moment he finally registered the words that just slipped out of his mouth and his expression changes in a split second. “Y/N.” he says in a cracked whisper and he reaches out to you but quickly you flinch and take a step back.
Darting out of the room your ran down the hall way to you own room and slammed the door behind you with tears falling down your cheeks. Pressing your back against the door you stood there for a minute while you heard him running after you, he was right behind your door. The only thing that separated the two of you was a piece of wood. He could have opened it if he wanted, he knew this, he could spoken an over ride code. Hell, he could have broken down the damn thing he would have wanted to but he didn’t. He knew how much you were hurting and he didn’t want to hurt you even more so he slowly turned on his heals and left with his head hung low.
Jumping onto your bed you curled yourself in the blankets and buried your head down in the pillows as you sobbed. River crawled up beside you and curled herself next to your chest while you began to stroke her ears. A low wine escaped her throat and it made you shiver as you squeezed her tighter.
It was rainy week in November, thunder storms were constant and the sky was a hazy black that blanketed the city. The team still didn’t trust you but non the less you still lived in the compound with everyone else. Slowly they were beginning to let you out with out an escort or a tracking beacon, but Bruce and Fury still gave you a strict curfew in which you always had to follow, no exceptions. The team made you check in ever couple of hours, but other than that the atmosphere was relatively calm. That day you left to go the the library, a place where you would often go to when your mind was racing the reading calmed the mind. It began to down pour on your way home but you wanted to swing by the book store on your way back, time was running a bit low so you decided to take a short cut under an overpass. A unpleasant laugh stopped you in your tracks, looking up you saw a group of young men holding a small pit bull puppy by the scruff. Shoving the small puppy in a bag they suddenly threw it over the bridge and into the river below. Screaming in panic you watch as the bag hit the water and in a instant you dropped your backpack to the ground and without thinking you dove into the muddy waters. Trying your best you paddle in the bouncing waves and follow the cloth bag as it flowed down stream. Grabbing the bag in your arms you hold it tight as the current begins to pull you harder and take you away. Looking around and holding the bag above your head you eye up the bank and teleport back on the shore. Panting heavily your hands shake in fear as you fall to your knees and bent over frantically opening the bag. Holding your breath you pull back the opening to see a small wet puppy look up at you and in a instant you hear the small animal begin to cry. Smiling you feel the tears burn your eyes as you pick up the puppy in your hands and hold the creature to your chest cuddling it. Looking around you notice that no one is there and your hear your watch beep to notify you that you are late. “I knew something like this would happen! She ran out when we let our guard! I told you this would happen! Didn’t I tell you! I told you!” Tony yelled as he paced back in forth in the lab. “She doesn’t have a tracker and she hasn’t check in yet. Give her time maybe she is running late.” Bruce watched Tony as he rubbed his chin. “Y/N was supposed to be back 30 minutes ago! She is probably off the grid by now!” Tony raised his voice. “Just give her time!” Bruce defended you putting his hands on his hips. Bucky sat there in a chair watching the two of them fight, he was called down by Bruce the moment you didn’t check in. He blamed himself for you not showing up, he felt a bit guilty for not going with you when you had offered a few hours earlier. “When we get her back I am putting her on lock down and she isn’t going any where! I mean seriously how could we…” “Tony…” your broken voice interrupted him mind sentence. The three men turned their heads to look at your form standing in the doorway with a bundle of cloths wrapped up in your arms. Bucky stood up in a flash and looked you over, you were soaked, drenched from head to toe. The eyes were alternating from blue to back to normal and there were hot tears streaming down to your purple trembling lips. Bolting over to you he was about to grab hold of you when you suddenly sprinted past him and ran over to Tony and looked up to him. “Help, Please.” you squeaked as you unfolded the bundle of cloth revealing the small dog and holding it up to him. “She needs help. Please Tony. You need to help her.” Your desperate words made Tony freeze in place he was still shocked at your entrance. “Please!” you pleaded as the puppy began to cry again. This snapped him out of his thoughts and he took a step forward and Bucky moves in closer as he watched water droplets fall from your body. “Okay, okay, let me see.” he said gently taking the puppy out of your hands. “Y/N.” Bucky calls out to you. Sam then runs into the room and almost slips on the puddles created by you on the floor. “Y/N! Where the hell were you? Whats with all this water on the floor?” he looks down before looking back up at you. “You missed your curfew and….What happened? Why are you all wet?” The body turns to look back at him and his expression turns from anger to concern in a millisecond and you opened your mouth to speak. “I…I saw a group of boys throw a puppy over a bridge into a lake and I….I jumped in to get her. I couldn’t…I couldn’t let her die.” You fumbled over your words, the body was so cold that you couldn’t feel much of anything anymore. “Wait, go back. You jumped into a river! In this weather? Y/N! Its like 30 degrees outside!” Sam’s voice was way to loud and the back of your hand wiped your nose. You turned back to watch Tony place the puppy on the table and began to dry her off. “Y/N. Are you alright?” Bruce gently asked moving in. “Jesus Y/N, your shaking.” Sam tried to grab you but you pulled away and just kept watching Tony who was working with the crying animal. “You have to help her Tony, please. Save her.” you pleaded as your wobbly legs carried you up next to him. “Please” you pleaded again and grabbed onto his wrist. “Y/N, you need to calm down, relax its going to be ok.” He tried to shove you off of him but you kept your grip. “You can’t let her die.” You shook and you began to cry harder. “Barnes take Y/N away and get her cleaned and warmed up.” Bruce took you off of Tony and walked you over to Bucky who hasn’t took his eyes off of you since you stepped though the door. Bucky put his arms around your shoulders and softly pulled your tired form away. You looked so tired and goosebumps littered your arms, water puddled under your feet as he dragged you out of the room. “Y/N its going to be okay. You need to go change. Its okay, she will be alright.” Tony spoke without looking up as you kept glancing back to Tony, Sam and Bruce. Bucky is able to pull you out of the room and walk you back to your room in the tower, you didn’t say a word the whole walk and it was worrying him as you kept your eyes glued to the floor. Leading you into your bathroom he sat you down on the side of the tub and walked into your bedroom to grab your pajamas. He went through your drawers and grabbed a new pair of underwear, he felt odd and a bit embarrassed going through your stuff like this. Bucky couldn’t help thinking how inappropriate it was and how he was going to get shit from you later about it, but he didn’t want to see you shivering anymore. Walking back in the room he handed you the fresh clothes and grabbed a clean towel from a cabinet and gave it to you. With out even looking at him you took it from his hands and pulled it over your head. Lingering there for a agonizing seconds he looked you over to make sure you weren’t having another episode and you weren’t clawing at your wrists again. But it appeared you were fine, you weren’t showing your normal symptoms. “Its alright.” he managed to awkwardly say to you before leaving the bathroom and closing the door behind him. He stayed outside the room waiting for you, at first you reminded silent and he was one second from going back in until he finally heard you shuffling around and taking off your wet clothes. Walking over to your bed he picked up your favorite blanket and scooped it up in his arms and walked into the laundry room and threw it in the dryer for a couple of minutes while you showered. He patiently waited for the water to turn off and when it did he brought the warm blanket out of the dryer and made his way back to your bathroom. Slowly you emerged, fatigue written all over your face, you had your wet clothes in one hand and the towel in the other. Your eyes met his for the first time, he smiled and wrapped the warm blanket around your shoulders and tucked it under your chin and you let out a quiet gasp. Taking the clothes and towel out of your hands he threw them in the wash basket beside the door. “You okay?” he asks in which you just nod snuggling into your blanket. He didn’t really know what to say, he was feeling more relieved than anything that you were finally back. Bucky the scared the moment the team told him you were missing, he had a feeling in the pit of his stomach that he couldn’t explain and the thought of you hurt frightened him. Suddenly you began to pat toward the door when he reached out and grabbed you to stop you from leaving. “Hey No, No, No, where do you think your going? Y/N you need to rest.” With out saying a word you pointed toward the exit and he knew instantly that you wanted to go check on the puppy in the lab. “No, Y/N, you need to rest now. The dog isn’t going anywhere. She is will alright she is in good hands with Tony. You can go see her tommorow when you are feeling better.” Looking down at your socks he had expected you to begin to raise hell and argue, but to his surprise you didn’t say a word and turned back to your bed and plopped yourself down and curled up in a blanket burrito. Unsure of what to do he walked to your bed side and sat next to you laughing to see half of your head popped out from the opening. “I am in so much trouble aren’t I?” you muffled though the fabric. “Nah, they just didn’t know where you were is all. Everything’s okay now. Everyone was just worried. Don’t let it bother you okay?” Nodding he stood up and stood at the edge of your door holding the handle in his hand. “Get some sleep alright? We will go see her tomorrow.” And with that he shut the door behind him. You went to sleep right away and woke up unusually early the next day speeding to the labs practically dragging Bucky with you as you kick the door open. Tony and Bruce stood there expecting you with grins on their faces in anticipation. “You lost.” Bruce chuckled looking at Tony. “Damn. I did.” Tony shook his head. “Lost what?” Bucky asks as you began to look around the room. “We made a bet to see when Y/N would get here. I bet eight and Tony thought eight thirty, and she is right on the dot.” Brice laughed. “She is never up this early, this has to be a record or something. We need to celebrate! This is a once in a life time moment!” Tony raised his hands up and you scoffed at his statement. “In fact, I think I have just the thing actually…” Stark walked over to a small gated fence that was set up on the floor, reaching down he pulled up a small puppy and carried it over to you. “…Here she is.” he said as you raced over and took the puppy out of his hands and held the creature to your chest. “The pup is okay, She was just suffering from slight dehydration and hyperthermia but we treated her and now she is alright.” Bucky smiles at you and crossed his arms as Bruce pulled you close to him inspecting you. “Tony can I keep her?” you asked looking up at Stark. “Ah, sure I guess.” Tony looked at the others and scratched his neck. “You are responsible for her you understand?” “I understand!” you said happily while burying your face into her fur. “So what are you going to name her?” Bruce asked. Your fingers stroked behind her ears and the puppy began to lick your skin. “River. Her name is River.”
Bucky tossed and turned and finally sat up in his bed, looking at the clock he let out an annoyed sigh to read it was two in the morning. He couldn’t sleep, his bed was too hard and it felt uncomfortable. Leaning over he played with his fingers, the cold metal contrasting with his flesh made him aggravated. This was the first time in months he had slept with out you and in his own bed and it was killing him, he hated it. He had tossed and turned for hours while hearing your faint weeping coming from down the hall. Laying back down in bed he kicked the covers off and turned on his side reaching out to the empty space on then bed were he pictured you soundly sleeping. Bucky was alone again.

Lost
Can you put me back together from my broken pieces? Or will you throw my fragments away like everyone else does? I give out my heart to anyone who needs it But they always just break it or give it away I love too much I care too much In the end I am the one who always gets hurt You took advantage of my fragile form You knew I was broken I was used by you, manipulated my you Twisted and bent I fell to your needs It was me that paid the price I feel scattered now in a world who doesn’t care about me The sun will rise and set everyday just like it always does But soon they will forget my name, and my memory will be lost from peoples minds Can somebody please try and put me back together? I feel so lost

“I do not wish to fight you.” The words that fell from his lip were so delicate yet so firm at the same time. The figure that overlooked you from the point of your sword stood tall his features were soft. His silver blonde hair seemed to glow in the moonlight that came from up above the clouds. With arms raised at his sides he showed you his palms and kept his fingers away from the bow that was strapped around his chest. The man stood still, very still, fearing that any major movement may throw you into hysterics again. The forest was not safe at night, everyone knew this, they warned you about what would happen when the sun went down. Those creatures lurked in the darkness, their shrieks could be heard for miles and miles. Many stories were told about those getting lost in the thick trees and never to be see again. “Please.” he spoke up again. His electric blue eyes stared into your own while snow flakes fell all around you. The quietness was of the land was erie but brought a sense of piece and tranquility along with it. The chilled air made you shiver and hot steam left your mouth with each frantic breath you took. His pointed ears caught your attention and you gulped while your arm threatened to fall at any moment. “What do you want Elf?” you voice came out a little to harsh that expected. “Miss, are you alright?” his eyes never left yours. Looking around at the dead orc corpses that littered the ground they seemed to be letting off steam and the fresh blood stained the snow. They came out of no where and tackled you off your horse as the path got deeper woodland. Out running them wasn’t an option but your legs had tried non the less racing though the trees as the grunts and growls behind you became louder and louder. An orc tackled your body to the ground and you had tried to fight him off the best you could but the beast was too strong. Drool dripped down from his sharp teeth as they tried to rip you to shreds while a foul order came from his mouth that made you sick. Just as you thought the end was near a arrow ripped through his eye from behind, just before he could take a bit out of you. When his heavy body fell on you his hot blood rolled down your neck and you struggled to push his weight off of your small form. Struggling to free yourself the heaviness was suddenly lifted and a hand grabbed you by the wrists and lifted you to your feet. As more charged toward you your savior pushed you behind him and reached behind him to grab arrows from a pouch hanging around him. Leaping around the man slaughtered each and everyone of those monsters that tried to get past him. But now you hold a sword up to your rescuer deep with in the woods the metal gleamed in the rays of the moon. A feeling of fright and confusion overwhelmed your body as you kept staring at the man who remind in the same spot. The wilderness was dark and the tall trees loomed over head and to be honest you weren’t sure where you were or what was going on. “I’m fine.” You finally said in a faint whisper. Looking down at you he suddenly takes a step forward, the snow under his feet crunches and you take a few steps back. Noticing your fear he doesn’t dare take another step but his arms do begin to fall a few inches and he points to you. “Your bleeding.” A cold breeze blew though the air and his shiny locks carried in the wind, a small shiver crept down your spine. A pool of warmth began to make itself noticeable to you and with a hesitant breath you peeked down. Blood was staining through the sleeve of your tunic, the liquid ran down your fingers and puddled in the snow. The sword began to wobbled out of your hand and fell disappearing in the snow in silence. The cut was quite large under your clothes, you must have gotten cut when you frantically dodged the attacks coming from the orcs. The blood that was spilling out was giving you a odd sense content, for it was the only spot of warmth coming from your body. Immediately pulling back your cloak and rolling up the fabric of the sleeve the cut was now visible and it was beginning to sting. Wincing at the pain you body began to tremble as the realization of your wound finally hit you. Staggering back your back hits a tree and the body sinks down and falls on the roots. “Miss?” The elf races forward and your head franticly shoots up. Once again he held up his hands but he didn’t stop instead he slowed down kneeling in front of you. “I am not going to hurt you.” his hush voice carried into your ears. “I promise.” Pulling back as far away as possible your hand clenched the wrist as the snow began to fall harder from the sky. “Let me help you.” His gaze was relaxed. Steadily he reached one of his hands out and gently tugged at the fabric of your tunic, he waited for you to stop him but you silently gestured him that it was okay with your eyes. When his finger tips brushed on your skin it made you slightly draw back, his skin was so warm. This sensation shot another chill though your entire body, your skin was freezing and covered in goosebumps from the winter chill. Lifting your sleeve up as high as it could go he stopped and cupped his hands over your and the pulse in your body felt like it was speeding up. How beautiful this man was, his face was smooth and it seemed to glow in the darkness, you had never seen such a beautiful human before. Gently his lifted up your hands to revel the cut open flesh, a flash of worriedness crossed his features for a slight moment you would not have caught it if you were not oogling over him. Reaching for one of the cuffs around his wrists he pulled a long piece of fabric that was tied around his own hand. Holding it up the blue silk like material up he began to tie it up and over around your arm covering the gash. “Lucky for you Miss, your injury isn’t that serious.” His touch as he looped his hands up and over was driving you mad. The contact his hands made to your flesh felt like an electric current and the movement was hypnotizing. “Y/N.” you murmured in a low voice. “What?” he asked stopping in place. “You keep calling me Miss. Y/N. My name is Y/N.” you somewhat chuckled to yourself. Lowering his head he lightly laughed and smiled at your statement. “Whats your name Sir?” you voiced in a playful manner. “Legolas.” The elf beamed. “Its nice to meet you Legolas.” “Likewise.” he smiled. The branches began to rustle and the wind howled though the forest receiving a moan from the trees in response. The cold nipped at the nose, with shaking hands you grabbed hold of your cloak to pull it around your shivering form. He looked around while still holding onto your injured arm, eyeing the orcs bodies that were now collecting snow. “Why were you in the woods all by yourself?” he inquired. “Its dangerous in these parts at night, especially for a human traveling alone.” “I guess I am not a very clever human.” you smirked and he laughed. “A clever human would also know not to hold a sword up to an elf.” he added. “My father told me to never trust anyone, especially not an elf.” “Well your father has never met me has he?” “No, I suppose not.” you chucked and looked down at his fingers as he finished up wrapping up your arm. He grabbed the sleeve and pulled it back down the arm and let go of the hand and it went back down to lay at your side. The two of you sat there on your feet for a moment looking at each other for what seemed like centuries, he wanted to say more but no words came out of his mouth. Instead he stood up, and stretched his arm down and you grasped it and he pulled you up from the snowy ground. “Thank you.” you smiled expressing you gratitude toward him. “Your welcome.” he replied. Stepping around him you began to walk away, avoiding trampling over the dead orcs in the process. “Y/N.” you heard your name being called and quickly you turned around to look back at him. “Where are you going?” he questioned in a worried tone. “I am just going about my way.” “I cannot let you go out in the woods by yourself, you may get into trouble again.” At that you couldn’t help but let out a scoff and rolled your eyes at him, the motion made him smile and your heart skipped a beat. “Come with me.” he said walking over to you and lifting up his hood over his head. “No, No, really it is alright. I am fine.” you held up your hands in the air “Your horse is dead, it is getting colder by the minute, and you have no where to go. If you stay out here for any longer you are going to freeze to death.” He puts his fingers in his mouth and whistles and a horse neighs come out of the trees and the creature trots out walking over to its master. His stead is massive, it is beautiful, the main was a beautiful cedar brown and it was beautifully decorated in silver armor and leather straps. Jumping up on the saddle he pulled the reins back and held his hand out to you to take. He looked down upon you with a friendly smile on his face, the moonlight illumined him from behind and you felt starstruck. Looking around you realized that you had no other option than to take his hand, surely you wouldn’t regret it right? Taking hold of his hand he pulled you up onto the horse like you didn’t weigh a single pound. “Hold on tight.” he tilted his head back for his words to travel to you. In that moment you snaked both of your arms around his torso and held on tight. His body was radiating a heat that felt like it was warming your soul from within. Pressing your body closer to his, you let your head rest on the back of his shoulder to hide from the winds. With one big yell the horse sprang forward and you were off. Everything was going by so fast, you would hardly register the trees passing you as the horse kept galloping away. The air felt colder in motion and you pressed your nose into the fabric of his cloak trying to warm up. The steps of the creature slowed down and you opened your eyes when you heard voices coming from around you. A circle of Elf’s on horse back closed in on the two of you and they seemed to be not too keen on your presence. One of the men pointed to you and began to speak in elvish, a language that you couldn’t understand nor speak. Squeezing him tighter your heart began to beat faster in a panic and he seemed to pick up on it in a instant. “It is alright.” he whispered. “This woman was attacked by orcs in the woods, I am going to take her back to the nearest human village.” Legolas replied to them in English. Another Elf spoke up and began to speak in Elvish again but Legolas just shook his head and cocked his head to the side. “They are no long a threat to us. I took care of them. I am going to take her home shortly.” A slight pang of worry shot though you at his words mainly because that would mean you would have to let go of him and you certainly didn’t want to do that. The horse took off again and began to walk along a path with the other Elves following close behind on high alert. It didn’t take long before you began to see lights shine though the fog and a small village came into view at the bottom of the hill. Stopping in place on a hill Legolas hopped down from his stead and helped you down by holding your sides. The moon was still high in the sky and you began to feel cold again from the loss of warmth from your new Elf companion. “This is as far as we go Y/N. The village is just down that hill. Make sure you have a doctor look at your arm so you can get treated.” He pointed to your wrist. “Thank you for everything Legolas.” biting your lower lip you watched as the winds began to pick up again and blow stray strands of hair out from under his hood. “Your welcome Miss.” he smirked and jumped back up on his horse. Turning you began to walk down the hill but stopped when you were only a few feet away. Turning you faced him one last time and found his eyes in the moonlight. “Will I ever see you again?” you inquired. “If fate allows.” he gently said and you huffed at the elf witty response. Spinning around you began your decent down the hill and right when you reached the village entrance you whirled around to take one more look at the group. But to your dismay the Elves were gone and you were only left with the cold chill in the air nipping at the skin.
