So I hate facetime but have two small nephews who live very far away and wanted them to know who I was. So when second nephew was born, I started sending first nephew (4 years old) a postcard every week.

The content wasn't anything special. I made cookies, I saw this flower, my cats did this. He likes trucks and machinery so I scoured redbubble for anything related to machinery and got a giant batch of machine postcards. Whenever I traveled, I'd hunt down a postcard for him.

My second nephew turned four this year, and I started sending him postcards as well. Both of them like Pokemon now, so mostly it's been double Pokemon postcards every week. I don't hear much from them, or my sister, so I just generally hope they're enjoyed and try to remember to mail them before Sunday.

However. This week my mom informed me second nephew likes the postcards SO MUCH he brings them into daycare to show around. And when I shared that with my sister, she told me not only does he bring them into daycare, he sleeps with them at naptime.

The only higher honor would be for her to tell me he's eating them.

I know he’s kind of a polarizing character, but I have to say, Elias Bouchard truly is Iconic. When you hear the twist of “the boring middle manager was actually secretly an evil eldritch monster the whole time!” you sort of assume that the boring middle manager persona was just a facade, but no, he really does seem to just enjoy dull administrative work. He’s both exactly as boring as he seems on the surface and profoundly fucked up in ways you couldn’t imagine. He’s practically omniscient and playing 4-D chess with everyone, but he responds to even slight hiccups in his elaborate scheme with acts of extreme violence. He beats an old man to death with a metal pipe and when someone brings it up later he goes, “Yeah I may have overreacted there.” His employees are constantly trying to murder him. He broke out of prison just so he could give a dramatic monologue. He had a weird gay thing going on with seemingly every man he met in the past 200 years. He loves scheduling.

i’ve chosen to read this as the archivist asking me for the hot gossip at a sleepover. he’s in girly pajamas on his side. the best of both worlds.

so they did a combination of a q&a and readings of statements. they discussed the sex appeal of michael distortion (doorways are thematically appealing which makes them erotic, jonny’s words not mine), talked about the possibilities they could have had with giving the distortion a romantic relationship (gaslighting and abuse galore) and how glad they were that they didn’t have to write that because it would’ve been horribly uncomfortable, the difficulties of writing season five during covid, AND how they were really considering just making jon evil and unsympathetic but since they made jonmartin canon they couldn’t. they also considered straight up just killing jon at one point. jonny compared the mechanisms to tma once in talking about cosmic horror which was fun. there was some other stuff but my skull feels full of fuzz right now from joy.
