Final few chapters?? How many are left?

hellooo!

There are three more chapters left before it all comes to an end, excluding the epilogue that is. The story was planned to have 3 parts with each 5 chapters- yet as I began to plan things more concretely I moved some content around, hence why it feels like it got a lill shorter now. I simply had no idea how I could fill part 3 up seeing as the story was starting to come to a conclusion.

So basically- one more chapter for part 2 to come to an end, along with the public demo. Final part will have two chapters + the epilogue, which will be locked behind private betas.

Ofcourse, I have no clue how long they will be, seeing as the chapters beyond the 9th one will be even more unique to the individual readers. They may as well be the biggest chapters in the story yet feel quite short when reading it.

you know what's great? re-reading old written chapters, cringing at the decade-old writing style you had yet taking a second to feel proud of how much you've improved.

And then running to find the first best editing services you can find to make the older chapters fancier.

I keep wanting to update the link "soon" but then things like this happen and I go like; "yeaaaaah... it'll be more epic if I wait until this thing is also added!" and I push it back again. So safe to say the update I actually had planned is delayed- but it'll be (hopefully) EPIC (in all caps).

Hi, I just finished reading the latest chapter and it's soooo good!! I love the addition of Mal and the connection to Ame too! My mc is romancing Ash so I see so many similarities between them and Pink Diamond/Rose Quartz from the cartoon Steven Universe.

Like, Mal/Mc are like basically the same person, as it is with Pink/Rose. And they both had close companions, Mal/mc with Ame, Pink/Rose with Pearl. And since my mc likes Ash, it's like Rose and Greg getting together from SU.(Rose Quartz is an alien, Mc is a replica, and Ash is a regular human, like Greg.)

Sorry for rambling, I'm just excited. ^.^

Hellooo! Please do ramble. I adore reading messages like this, ahaha. Although I haven't watched Steven Universe, I can totally see it going off on your description, pfhah. However, imagine my little story is much angstier! Ash and Ha are the unfortunate normal humans traveling with a bunch that aren't quite considered "human." I always did have a thing for "We are not the same" type of connection in literature. They can either go horribly wrong or be absolutely amusing.

Writing update 21.03.2025

hello hi hey- I am making progress c:

Yeah no- I have been quite busy ripping my hair out trying to deliver some quality-of-life changes for the next update. Aka- I have been gauging my eyes out fixing errors rather than writing any new content, a bit on and off as I got stuck a few times- and changing entire bits of codes up from the past chapters THREE TIMES for it to work as I scatter snippets such as the above ones throughout the entire story for the ones who have it toggled on. But I've done it! WOOHEE. YES. that's out of the way. Hail to the 3 a.m. nights that I've been staring at my ceiling trying to come up with solutions to my problems. Yet a fair warning; I'm not sure how Cogdemos handles updated chapters, but there may be a chance that the game won't load up your outdated saves, as the next update will update all chapters with new codes.

Next up is actually writing up new content. I've planned a few new scenes out throughout part 1 of the story- additional content with Amethyst and Ha specifically, alongside some more flashback sequences to deep-dive into their characters so there's that. I will be writing those up- finishing the WIP scenes of chapter 9 as well as 8, and the new update should be up after! When? I am not sure at all. But it's getting there. I am actually working on it this time around.

Aside from that- I've commissioned a little something from a good friend of mine for RBU. As a small thank you to everyone who has been sticking around so far, and to push RBU further to potential full release for when the time comes. This, too, shall be released alongside the quality of life update when this happens.

Meanwhile- enjoy the few playlists I've duct-taped together on all the RO's! It's a mixture of old songs I had noted down for them a decade or so ago for nostalgia reasons, and a few new songs I thought fit well with their arcs right now. Did a funny and put the songs resembling the beginning of their arc at the top, and the end at the bottom.

This isn't an ask or anything I just really need to express how much I love this book. It’s been a month since I read it, and I still can’t stop thinking about it. It genuinely brought me to tears. The writing style is breathtaking! The way you capture emotions, how the characters feel so alive, how relationships grow and evolve naturally, and how every path feels meaningful and interconnected. It’s all so masterfully done. I’m so grateful I found this book when I did. It’s left such a lasting impact on me. I hope you have an amazing day 😭😭🩷🩷🫶

heyaaaa. so idk if I didn't catch it during my gameplay or you really didn't write it, but how old was ame when he first fell down? and tbh I'm pretty confused about ame's height, are librarians not normal humans? I hope this is not rude to ask, I simply have been wondering about this for so long. oh! and also did ame and mc physically age like normal humans after the fall??? 🥺🥺

Hellooo !! The MC is the one who fell when they were younger while Amethyst came down much later along with the fall of their library as shown at the end of the chapter in a Flashback sequence, which is basically the start of RBU. I explained a bit more on the age stuff in this post, here c:

They aren't quite "human", as much as they look like it, yet with subtle but distinct features pulling them away from it. Getting too much into it would go into spoiler territory- all them stuffs will be revealed proper in chapter 10.

Amethyst is really just a very tiny guy/gal. Totally not the single little self insert I've put into RBU because tiny-people-are-cool.

i just came across RBU and spent my entire day playing it! it's so good, i had to share my love. i've only done one playthrough, but i was so immersed in it from start to finish! it's so entertaining,, the plot twists/reveals had me audibly gasping, and the characters are all so likeable! the amount of ANGST it is to choose to be a replica hunter!! and the difference in how characters behave depending on what they think of you (cough cough F with a low relationship cough) is very well-done 🤍

Giggling while reading this. Thank you for enjoying RBU! You don't know for how long I had the "perfect world" scenario in mind for. Initially I was going to put this for next chapter when shit really hits the fan with the approaching companion endings, but couldn't exactly find a spot for it to flow as well as it may be doing now.

There are not many low relationship interactions- other than the various ways they make decisions with different personality traits and depending on your alignment. Though if someone shows this change the most, it's 10000% F. Some of you are going to have a handful with the poor guy/gal

How old is MC supposed to be? I know they were around mid-teens when they fell (I think it was 15?) and they seem to be older right now(I'm thinking early to mid-20s since they are legally responsible for their sister, whatever that means with how their whole universe is).

Chapter 9 spoilers !!!

Same age as Amethyst! Age works a little different for them anyway, as some of their kind have a good few zeros in their age while Amethyst and the MC are the first ones to come into existence much later. You can use your fantasy regarding the mc and their "sister", seeing as those are mere memories that haven't actually ever happened.

The MC might have the experience and level of power that is fit for the age when they escaped, even when they have had been stuck in between the two worlds for a few more decades before managing to rip through the gap that was created by the scientists experimenting on parallel universes to finally land onto earth, as indicated by the end of chapter 9 that is

In a sense, the mc is 15-22 and 102 years old at the same time, depending when they lose consciousness mid catastrophic fall. This is excluding the MCs potential fake life along with their fake identity, which is utterly up to the players' imagination.

Chapter 9: a summary to the ones who have not read it yet

So if I understand correctly, MC was originally the baby of a pair of rogue Librarians who was adopted by other Librarians that killed their parents. MC (Malachite?) was raised by Amethyst and other Librarians, and would develop a fascination with humanity to the point of intentially 'falling' onto the Earth, thus becoming the first Replica.

Fascinated by the concept of the First Replica being a non-human, almost celestial creature, actually.

I still have questions though, because some stuff I am still murky with (could be because I had been awake since noon that day and only went to bed in the early morning, so the brain wasn't braining, sorry about that):

Are all Replicas Librarians who were inspired by MC? Or are they just humans that found a way to siphon MC's dormant powers to become ones?

Is it the fact MC is a Librarian that even created the whole Replica conundrum? Aka it didn't exist before MC?

Is MC currently a human, or are they still a Librarian that merely became humanoid?

Was it the despair and desperation of other Librarians that created a world where MC was still alive after their fall (as Ame's fall was described as 'successful' while MC's clearly wasn't), thus turning MC into a Replica?

On that note, are all Replicas humans that didn't want to cease to exist, or are they the result of their left behind loved ones that didn't want them to die?

Like, I'm confusion. Please help me. I love this story so much but reading it with a half-dead brain didn't help me understand the finer details and implications (I WILL re-read it once I have a day off soon. Hopefully. Ugh, being a working adult SUCKS).

hello there! I am thoroughly enjoying you picking the chapter apart like that.

I left things a little "vague" still, giving one puzzle piece at a time and all kinds of little hints scattered throughout the few branches. Left a few hints at the facility, left a few hints at the cabins, etc. Things will be revealed in full in chapter 10, clearing up whatever confusion there is.

Yet to answer some of the questions I can answer:

!!! So many spoilers ahead- beware of the sweet sweet spoilers. !!!

Look at what the Replicas are called like. They are called a Replica for a reason! As it had been stated, these Replicas came from the MC. Before chapter 9, it was told how the MC was the first one to fall, bringing all the other Replicas into existence by the mere force alone. Sort of like a comet breaking apart mid-air before hitting the ground. Yet by Chapter 9, it is slowly revealed how the MC, upon falling as a Librarian, broke their essence apart- rendering them into a human with no memories and no powers which is now scattered throughout their little town across a multitude of different timelines taking on a humanoid form, which are Replicas of the MC's powers. Sort of like becoming a God on accident at the cost of their own powers. It is the whole reason why they are all linked to the MC, and the whole reason why the MC feels their pain whenever Amethyst banishes them.

Amethyst had stated before in one of the branches how the entire Replica thing tm was an issue up at the Library before, but they had mistaken it with the events shown in chapter 9's intro. Amethyst does not know any better, and the fact they are a baby compared to their kin is a red herring throughout the story. The problem the MC is experiencing with the Replicas is in fact a first, and no one knows what the fuc they are doing.

I hope this clears things up a little! (but not too much). If things are still a little unclear, feel free to ask. I am trying to convey the final resolutions as best as I can in those chapters without giving out too much, so feedback on this is also always welcome!

Hi! First of all I wanted to come an say how much I LOVE this story and how happy I am to see an update! Second, sorry if this is a bother, but I was wondering if there is some guide to know or that at least hints how to unlock certain achievements? Even after playing with two differents mc I cant unlock any other endings to chapter nine besides "what could have been" lmao. Please feel free to ignore this if this is annoying

Thank you so much for enjoying the game ;-; It makes me happy to read how people actually like the story I keyboard-smash down for you all. I hope the final few chapters will satisfy everyone as well ^^ And asks like these always make me very happy to read.

Regarding the guide! There are none right now, no- as there are a dozen achievements out there, half of them hidden as they are planned for the final few chapters, and I may need to remove some before the final releases as there are wild balancing issues going on within the game anyway.

Mini guide written up below here c:

There are 5 possible endings in chapter 9, where 2 are locked behind WIP scenes, which makes it 3 possible endings you can achieve. Which is, what I like to call them;

The blood Ending: the worst ending you can possibly get. Explained in the comments of this post here on how you can achieve it. Might be spoiler-y. And a little depressing.

The fighters Ending: survive without getting caught by the scientists until the end of the chapter! You require at least above the 50 "knowledge" to save the hostage from the scientists in the woods at the beginning of chapter 9, (or to run away from them) and again 50 "knowledge" when you fight the scientists at the end.

The dream Ending: Probably the one you already got. Where you are taken hostage to the facility (either willingly to save your companion or by failing the stat checks when deciding to fight back) only to wake up in an alternate reality. Congratulations, you are stuck in a perfect world now.

Like said, I will be doing some balancing fixes in the next update coming up soon, along with the remaining WIP scenes. On top of that, it will have proper visual indicators on whenever you have failed and succeeded a stat check which is all invisible right now for immersion reasons. Figured it will make everyones' life easier! It will be a toggle-able feature!

Weirdly enough, initially, I wasn't clicking with any of the ROs (that happens, no fault of the writer or anything) but then yesterday, all of a sudden, I got like "Oh, I will DIE if I don't get MC and H together, actually" and now here we are... they are actively rotting my brain right now tbh.

This ask made me grin from ear to ear- especially pleasant on a stressful day. H's romance content is a bit lacking and I feel bad for that. I am still planning to return to the older chapters and add a bit more general H and Ame content here and there as it has been VERY focused on F and Ash recently due to them being involved in the main plots of the recent chapters much more. BUT this will shift a little in chapters 10 and 11.

At least you can kiss H in chapter 9 ahhha ;')
