i go back the next day. I don’t know why. It’s a food truck. I literally took a vow two days ago to never go near a food truck again. But those French fries were so good and oh my god that milkshake. So, im back at the window. The same girl is standing there. She looks happy. Weird. “Hi! What can i get you?” She says, much too enthusiastically. I glance at her name tag, which i forgot to do yesterday. It says [insert name]. “Can i just have some fries and um… a small chocolate milkshake?” I ask, hating how hesitant my voice comes out. I knew what i wanted to order. I suddenly notice how my voice sounds very gray in comparison to hers. ”Same as yesterday? Coming right up!”

she remembered me. The thought strikes me as strange. Why would she remember me? I step to the side so the person behind me in line can order and slide to the ground against the side of the food truck. It’s not long before a cardboard tray thing with a milkshake and fries is set down in front of me. I look up and wouldn’t you know, it’s that same girl again. “um. Why did you.. bring me my food? This isn’t a restaurant.” It sounds very snarky and not at all grateful so I quickly tack on a “thanks” before grabbing a few fries. “Oh, well, im about to go on break so I thought I’d drop it off. No trouble for me.” Before i can thank her again, she skips away. She skips. Not a care in the world.
