I'm actually a little bit torn. A lot of Gabenath fics like yours are heartwarming, but my first choice has always been finding a way to revive Emilie without sacrificing someone else, since it wasn't clear if she was dead or just in a coma. What do you think of that?
so, reviving emilie has almost never been a viable solution for me.
not because of anything to do with her as a character, and not because i think bringing her back wouldn’t make the agrestes happy! of course they’d be happy to have her back. it’s how the narrative frames the idea of her revival as being counterproductive to the grieving process. the wish coming with repercussions is almost entirely a non-issue in the face of that.
sometimes, the people you love die! sometimes life changes in ways you can’t predict or control, and sometimes it really, really sucks, but you still can’t go back.
if emilie is revived at all, gabriel will be frozen in that denial stage of grief possibly forever—the people he loves don’t have to die, life can be predicted and controlled, he can go back.
that’s why any happy ending for gabriel/the agrestes will always be about mourning emilie and learning to move on—not bringing her back.
at least for my own personal tastes. if it’s different for you, then that’s okay! there’s no one-size-fits-all when it comes to being satisfied by a story. if it makes you happy, do whatever you like with the narrative! i certainly do 😆

So…what happens when an Akuma attacks on the day Gabriel and Nathalie manage to take Adrien out for a “Father Son + Assistant (who is definitely not a mother figure) Bonding Time” and they get caught up with trying to figure out how to get Adrien and their partner coworker/boss to safety.
I can’t imagine Adrien would be willing to let either of them go.
that’s a thought 🤔
assuming this is one of those days where the foe is more strike back and less gigantitan, then they’re in a PICKLE. gabriel and nathalie are caught in an endless tango of trying to slip away unnoticed and unknowingly sabotaging each other’s attempts to do so—and of course, adrien doesn’t want either of them to go anywhere.
so the answer is: they don’t split up 😅 too little wiggle room to separate from the other two. the three of them rough it out together until an exterior force inevitably gets in the way, wherein gabenath vanish and are immediately replaced by luckstrife.
and of course, catastrophe brought gabriel to safety somewhere, the same way lady luck brought nathalie to safety, so adrien can stop panicking about his father and mother-figure close family associate 🙂↕️

“You ruined the seam there…”
To what seam he was referring to Nathalie couldn’t tell. She was rather preoccupied with Gabriel being far too close as his hand ran up the side of her thigh. How she wound up in this position with him rambling about ruined seams would escape her come morning. Tonight they were teetering on the edge. Shifting her other thigh up his hip she watched as his attention was drawn again.
“You’re being too careless tonight Nathalie.”

Naughty Gabenath shenanigans? On my birthday???
Anybody else watching this season and thinking: “Gosh Gabriel we really coulda avoided so much heartache and tragedy if you had just slept with your PA - and we can still technically stop this. I mean she’s RIGHT THERE GABRIEL.”
Emelie’s story better be so worth it.

Yeah... you know what, forget what I said before. Here's a minicomic, I'm still detailing the other one. I had fun drawing these. Gabenath on the menu today, ladies and gentlemen.

And also some other drawings of Hawkmoth👍

Promot: whatever scenario that would have Gabe call Nath ‘natasha’! that or a lil moment between adrien and Sybille
When he opens the door, he catches her leaning over the bureau, lips pursed, eyes hard and focused. She holds her hands behind her head as she tries to secure a necklace, and every time the clasp fails her, her brow twitches, the crease across her forehead deepens. Then, her gaze shifting, she spots him in the mirror.
“I didn’t want you to see me until I was ready,” she says.
Gabriel smiles and steps into the room. “I thought we weren’t bothering with old traditions.”
“This has nothing to do with traditions. I just thought it would be nice if…”
She allows him to take the clasp and chain from her fingers, the nails of which had been manicured and painted a deep plum purple. Gabriel fastens the necklace and rests his hands across Nathalie’s shoulders as she sets it straight between her collar bones. It’s heavy and bold and arranged like dozens of silver fragments glittering across her skin. It’s the one piece of ostentatious jewelry she has allowed herself, and only because the dress she’s wearing is quite simple, even for her standards.
“I thought it would be nice if - I don’t know - I was finished,” she continues, searching herself over in the reflection.
“My apologies. I hope it doesn’t disappoint you that I was already taken the second I laid eyes on you.” Gabriel kisses her shoulder. Under his lips, he can feel some of the tension melt out of her. When he glances back up, the look on her face has softened. She nearly smiles.
“You’ll have to wait until tonight.”
“What torture,” he grumbles. Then, he coaxes her to turn from the glass. Once she faces him, a hand reaches out to carefully brush back the curl of dark hair hovering by her cheek. “I joke. Every second of today will be worth it.”
“I didn’t think it would ever come,” she confesses.
There’s the slightest violet tint to the lipstick she’s wearing, brought out by the elegant shadow dusted around her eyes. Gabriel had no idea Nathalie’s sister had such a way with the makeup brush.
He tells her, “I was sure it would.”
Nathalie runs the tip of her index finger down the sharp line of Gabriel’s lapel. She doesn’t appear to process his words right away, because a couple seconds elapse before her eyes widen and she looks him in the face. “Were you?”
“Since the day I told you I loved you.”
She exhales sharply, a sad smile appearing. “You couldn’t have known.”
“I knew I wanted to be with you. There was only one path that could lead us down.”
“But you didn’t know if we’d make it. If I’d make it.”
“My dear.” He raises her hand and kisses it, the edge of the diamond on her finger pressing into the corner of his lips. “There is not a force on this earth that could have kept me from this.”
“Okay,” she chuckles, “Save your vows.”
“I love you,” he murmurs.
“I love you too, Gabriel.”
He puts his hands on her waist. “You’re happy?” He shrugs. “With only this?”
“Only this?”
“I know it isn’t much.”
“What more could I ask for?” she wonders. “For most of my life, I could not dare imagine such a thing. And now here I am with you. Adrien and Masha will stand beside us. All the people I love in one room.” Light ripples across her gaze as she shakes her head in disbelief. “I wonder what my mother would say. If she could see me now.”
“Do you wish she was here?” Gabriel guides Nathalie in a slow, delicate sway. Her bare feet grip the carpet. She looks into the distance.
“She is,” Nathalie says finally, in the breathless murmur. “She’s here.”
“Oh, my Natasha.” Pulling his soon-to-be wife into an embrace, Gabriel presses another kiss to her head. There, they remain in each other’s arms, locked in their gentle shift of weight, until Mariya arrives with a knock on the door and a moonvista in her hair asking if they’re ready to go.

Hi, I absolutely love your writing and interpretations of Gabriel and Nathalie's characters. I wanted to ask, what are your thoughts on the take that Gabenath is an abusive/unfeminist ship or that it's toxic because Nathalie is throwing her life away for a man that doesn't love her? I've seen these opinions floating around among the anti-Gabenath part of the fandom. Personally, I disagree with them, but I can't quite put my thoughts into words.
Interestingly, I don’t have as much to say on this as one might expect from me.
I’ve seen this backlash too, and while the vitriol bothers me, of course, I can easily understand why some people wouldn’t take to this ship and why they make the arguments they make. It’s just that, for me, those arguments don’t hold any weight.
Frankly, I don’t think that Gabenath is a healthy relationship. I think it’s a compelling relationship. Gabriel is an emotionally neglectful, over-controlling father, stewing in his grief and repeatedly terrorizing Paris to fulfill his own personal desires - and Nathalie enables this. Unhealthy.
She is actively endangering her health because she herself values Gabriel’s happiness both over her own well-being and the safety of the city’s entire population. Unhealthy is an understatement.
What I find compelling about Gabenath as a fictional relationship is how Nathalie isn’t supporting Gabriel because she expects to earn his affections. Though Nathalie loves Gabriel, reciprocity isn’t her priority, as is the case in the vast majority of unrequited romances. You end up with this undeniably destructive pair of people with a largely callous attitude towards the world around them…and an undertone of their relationship that is characterized by utter selflessness. You have these sparse moments of tenderness where Gabriel is almost repentant, and where Nathalie brings out the best that we’ve seen in him. I like Gabenath not because I can justify it as “healthy” but because I am fascinated by the contrast of cartoonish villainy and genuine affection. Gabenath humanizes Gabriel and Nathalie, characters I might otherwise be endlessly frustrated or bored with.
And, yes, I suppose it checks some of those “unfeminist” boxes if we’re talking Woman Being in Love with Her Boss and Woman Throwing Her Life Away For Man Who Only Has Power and Intrigue Going For Him, but this is where I have to admit that I truly do not care. First, because I believe Nathalie’s low self-worth is a deliberate part of her characterization and not only an incidental factor of the tropey power dynamic between her and Gabriel. But more importantly, I don’t measure my ships based upon how progressive they are, how morally or socially acceptable they are, etc. I ship what I think is telling a good story, and there is enough there with Gabenath that I have been invested for this long.
And if and when the show falls flat on it’s face, that’s what fan works are for.

hi! i really like your art and @talesofgabrielandnathalie 's gabriel would look v v cute in your artstyle. idk if requests are closed or not bc it's not specified 💔 but if they are, dw, i just.THINK it's a neat concept
hello, thank you! ☺️ very kind of you to say. and yes, requests are currently closed! i’ll make it obvious when they aren’t (eg. making an announcement post, changing the message on my askbox, etc.).
also, i don’t think i draw gabriel very differently from them haha! they just omit the jacket, no? i’ve done that on occasion! admittedly, not digitally (and not as a standalone, i don’t think 🤔) but i’ll link some old requests that feature it:

Repeat after me: I draw so good. Not everything needs to be a banger. I'm not a content machine I'm a person who makes art and art takes time. Inspiration comes in waves and when it recedes that's when I should let myself rest
