“A cocky Morty can lead to some big problems”

I wonder if we’re gonna get any kind of continuation of this line in the new season.

In hindsight I absolutely believe he wasn’t just talking about Evil Morty in this scene. He knew that Morty was capable of the same kind of thing and that’s why he was always trying to put him down and keep him kinda dependent. Rick probably knew if Morty was even half as capable as his biological Rick he could do some serious damage. Morty leading a revolt with the other Mortys leading to “Evil Rick��� being killed was definitely an early sign to Rick that Morty was a lot more capable than originally thought.

For the record, in season 8 alone, Morty has physically attacked Rick three separate times, one of them was premeditated

That’s not mentioning all the other times Morty has talked back to Rick, called his bluff, blatantly insulted him, used unnecessary force in general, or when he quite literally shot him in the head in anger with a gun he didn’t know was fake.

I also saw someone point out Ricks almost shocked expression when Morty had violently shook him back-and-forth as if this is the first time he’s noticing how much Mortys behavior has changed.

I honestly believe that now that he’s not constantly focused on getting revenge with Prime he’s finally able to take a step back and realize that he may have caused a lot more emotional damage to Morty then he though and can’t just apologize his way out of it anymore. 

I definitely think this quote could be seen as foreshadowing. Like Morty finally reaching his breaking point with Rick and the rest of his family.
