going into a lil bit of detail about my idea under the cut. As a Treat.

so currently I want to make some ocs for the ttrpg Cain! (which is. persona/jujutsu kaisen/chainsaw man esque.)

basically the characters in Cain are exorcists (folks with weird psychic powers) who take out monsters born of trauma called sins, because they’re forced to by a powerful secret organization that treats them as weapons and explicitly defines them as something separate from humans.

I still need to look through the rule book more thoroughly and decide on actual character specifics. but I really like a few power sets.

Ardence (manipulating potential energy to create heat and cold) Vector (imbuing things with bursts of velocity) Smother (suppress the innate properties of the universe) and Bind (manipulate and use the monsters you’re fighting, which is forbidden) are my favssss. so the ocs in question will probably use something from that list

it just has so many aspects I like in its setting and vibes that I know I’m gonna go Crazy with it and get super attached to my ocs as soon as I buckle down and make them. since that is exactly what happened when I read songbirds.

(also there is a class in it titled songbird which is. fitting for linnet so I will probably also think up a lil linnet and kestrel au for the setting. not floriaster tho it’s too bleak for them. protecting aster from it like that image of a samurai holding a cat)

(my differing attitudes with those two pairs is Funny to me. aster is my sweetie pea who I will not let any harm come to. linnet and kestrel however are not safe from The Horrors. put those guys in a situation.)

had this in mind when I was putting getting into knives on his playlist.

“the house burned down before I got there” in the sense of. the town has changed significantly since he was there and even if he does find it in this quest for vengeance the things he’d want to destroy aren’t even there anymore. it would be entirely meaningless and he just has to find it in himself to move on.

I don’t know if linnet and kestrel would Ever meaningfully remember much of their past (I am still undecided on that) but I know in my heart that if linnet remembered he would immediately go on a big dumb quest for vengeance against the church in their hometown. (that will fail horribly)

when I was trying to look up symbolism stuff for linnet birds I found this?

it is funny to me that despite their names, linnet and kestrel’s Animal Symbolisms are not linnets or kestrels.

(linnet -> canaries mainly. kestrel -> scorpions and vultures.)

don’t think I’ve ever posted this idea to here despite it being in my brain forever. when linnet and kestrel are in a dungeon and linnet thinks there might be danger up ahead he absolutely grabs kestrels ponytail to stop him.

(kestrel the first few times is like “I HAVE ARMS… YOU CAN GRAB MY ARM.”)

truly some people have no genre savviness whatsoever. A girl came back from the dead the other day and fresh out of the grave she laughed and laughed and lay down on the grass nearby to watch the sky, dirt still under her nails. I asked her if she’s sad about anything and she asked me why she should be. I asked her if she’s perhaps worried she’s a shadow of who she used to be and she said that if she is a shadow she is a joyous one, and anyway whoever she was she is her, now, and that’s enough. I inquired about revenge, about unfinished business, about what had filled her with the incessant need to claw her way out from beneath but she just said she’s here to live. I told her about ghosts, about zombies, tried to explain to her how her options lie between horror and tragedy but she just said if those are the stories meant for her then she’ll make another one. I said “isn’t it terribly lonely how in your triumph over death nobody was here to greet you?” and she just looked at me funny and said “what do you mean? The whole world was here, waiting”. Some people, I tell you.
