thinking more about transnationality. see since nationality is a legal thing, whether or not you're trans or cis nationality is ENTIRELY up to the country in question.

for example; i'm transscottish. my grandmother immigrated to america from scotland in the 50s. because she is a woman, the UK's citizenship did not grant my father automatic citizenship when he was born and he never knew he could become a citizen.

for me to be a citizen, he would have had to live there for 3 years before my birth. he did not know that he had a legal right to live and work in the UK. so i never got that citizenship.

if it were irish citizenship, though? all i'd have to do is register as a foreign birth and apply for citizenship and get it! likewise, if it were german or austrian citizenship, i would have gained it automatically as birthright. and all of these are other countries i have more distant ancestry from! but because my closest immigrant ancestor is fron scotland i don't qualify.

so in my head i should be cisscottish. unfortunately scotland is under english rule and until it gains its independence and can establish its own citizenship law, i'll likely never have the right to live in my ancestral homeland.

NATIONALITY is the country you are legally affiliated with- the place you live, were raised in, or have citizenship in. i'm cisamerican in nationality as well as transscottish because i would like to have dual citizenship and live in scotland, but as is i only have american citizenship and live in america.

RACE is a socially constructed group of genetic physical traits that are lumped into racial labels. i am intrakorean because my physical body has traits that are considered white, but my body in headspace has traits that are considered southeast asian (and, well- specifically korean.)

ETHNICITY is essentially the sociological term for which culture you belong to. it is NOT the same as your race or your genetics, but they're usually linked because race is genetic and most people are raised by biological parents. i am ethnically white american... because i was raised by white americans in an extremely white town. hell, southern if you want to be more specific with it. i'm also transscottish because i would like to connect more culturally with my scottish heritage. i'm NOT transkorean, because i don't have much connection with korean culture besides liking my korean name and enjoying many east asian style foods- and i don't want to transition to be more connected to that culture or to the korean-american diaspora.
