Black Boys Bloom Thorns First : Volume 1, Chapter 1
“Handheld seduction hijacking my point of view …
Everybody’s watching
Checking for minutiae
And I wish I cared less
But, I wanna be on your mind”
Joi – “Stare At Me”
Author’s Note: This is Volume 1 of a 4 Volume Series featuring Erik Killmonger’s father N’Jobu, and most importantly, Erik’s Mama who the movie leaves out. This series follows how Erik’s parents met, fell in love, had Erik, raised Erik, and then all hell breaks loose. Enjoy, comment, reblog etc. Thanks for reading!

N’Jobu Udaku could be stubborn when he wanted to be. For several weeks he refused to attend any Black Student Union meetings on the UC Berkley campus while he was completing his masters in Political Science. His roommate Bakari Dunduza (né, Julius Greene—he changed his name to Bakari to embrace some nebulous unknown African heritage), kept pestering him about being involved in Black campus politics.
“Bakari,” N’Jobu would sigh, rolling his eyes at him, “I am Wakandan, I know who I am and where my people come from. Why do I need to be part of an organization that is so fixated on heritage?”
Bakari often gave N’Jobu an exasperated glare, his round glasses slipping on his nose as he stared at the arrogant exchange student with the regal bearing and penetrating dark brown eyes. This time was no exception.

Where do you think he’s from? What narrative do you derive about this man from the photograph? I might turn him into a character.

I like the guy in my dreams. He’s younger than I am. Brown skin. I think he has a medium length Afro fade. No taller than 5’9”. I think I met him inside a school in a dream. His name is Keith. I forget his last name. Ive him about 2-3 times. He always showed affection and active interest in me. He appears in the second layer of my dreams. Last time I saw him was at a mutual friend’s house or a venue (unexpectedly). He was working and that involved looking at interesting looking furniture. I walked up to him, and confirmed the contact info we had for each other. The first info time I gave him my number and something about the contact info I had of his was unclear.
When he hugged me, I bit his arm, which he proceeded to wrap around me in the presence of others. For some reason (i don recall) I was naked, and had to slip away to hide myself, as he directed me to where I could find some of his cloths.
Other aspects of the dream are a horse, scenes in a backyard, something reminds me of Bart Simpson, a trampoline, me making a long voyage through the city before I got to the house/venue, and the Black comic book circle #BLERDlife.

I’m seriously frustrated. There is no reason that I am not able to click a search and find a LIST of all the office up for election this round. There isn’t one on this ensure nor did I find one in as general search.
I shouldn’t have to enter personal information, just to see the seats being voted for in this particular year.
It’s an inaccessibility to the political process.
Most people dont learn about it till the last minute, unless you have a political family because it’s not advertised, outside of the presidency.
It is unacceptable, and an obstruction to exercising constitutional rights.

Once upon a time Black art was made by Black creators. Now that theres an economy from it, “others” are once again “interested” in exploiting our image for their gain. #ProtectBlackKulture #BuyFromBlackCreatos #BuyBlkKultureFromBlkCreators
Thats the only way to ensure the integrity of our image, global representation, and intellectual property.

"Brazilian hand games and American hand games!!!! Realizing that the art of hand games comes from Africa! I never thought about it before. It was just embedded in our childhood."
"The collective consciousness is real"
"My goodness. We played this in Nigeria too."
There's a documentary with @jamilawoods called "Black Girls Play" about the history of handclap games in the US and their importance in the Black community. And a book before it called The Games Black Girls Play, by Kyra D. Gaunt.

Art is not just pretty to look at.
Its a teaching tool; An Archive of Information about the person whom created it, the society of that time period, place it came from, and what was important to them that they'd create something to represent the idea to be seen forever.
