These are photos from the three artists who inspired my first project.
1. John Baldessari: I loved the way John used color to drastically alter the mood of his images. It looks as if he has painted over parts of his image. He doesn't recolor the entire image, which I like. It mixes two worlds and creates a dynamic piece. In my photos for the first assignment I recolored almost everything except the body, clothes and hair. All of the grass I made pink, I changed the colors of the sky, the furniture-EVERYTHING. Every element of the photos are masked with their own "Hue and Saturation" layer. I painted in each color-in the same way John Baldessari does with his images.
2.  Cindy Sherman: In almost all of her images she uses herself as the model. She turns herself into the character she wants to capture-through costuming, makeup and hair. She styles each picture and finds a location to capture the personality of each individual. I decided to create self portraits in which I created a character from the future. Through the styling, location, and props I tried to make my futuristic world as accurate as possible.
3. Loretta Lux: I have admired Loretta's work for a while because of the dissonance her photos create. All of her photos appear to be shot in another world. Through the color, retouching, and often painted in background Loretta does an incredible job transporting the viewer to an entirely new world she has created. I wanted my photos in this project to emulate the "other worldliness" of Lux's images. I chose locations and retouched the colors in my images to have a subtle unease to them. I didn't want to go completely overboard and end up with a tacky image, but I wanted to push the boundaries just enough to transport my viewers.
