4x08 Rant

I don’t know if this has already been expressed but I’ve read a lot of gloriously eloquent and scathing analysis, my head is still a mess, and I already had a shitty memory to begin with… so.

The introduction of the “loves-up hikers” is just so fucking inflammatory. Here’s the fucking dialogue, if you need a reminder: the lead up and the stupid fucking “bothy”.

My thoughts are in bold.

E: No signal. Well, maybe we can tether it. Is your phone working? (Since when does Eve have a grasp on technology? There are literally dozens of examples to the contrary but okay...)

(Silence)

E: Are you gonna help? You just don’t get it, do you? You don’t want to say it, fine. I don’t care. But I can. I need you, Villanelle. I came all this way to be with you. And in the middle of nowhere. You’re angry? I’m angry. You’re hurt. I’m hurt. That is life and we’re running out of time. So you need to stop pouting and being like a suck face and get on with it! (Whaaat is this?? It’s so hollow. You could have given us so much more but chose this instead. Okay...)

(V grabs her and spins them)

E: No, stop! Oh, my god! Oh, my god! Stop it! Stop… stop it! Are you kidding me?

Rando: Hey! Are you two okay?

E: All good thanks.

R1: Oh

R2: Ah, Mary Poppins! Oh the storms around here come on in no time. We couldn’t leave you out there in the elements. Could we, Baba?

R1: Oh, that’s right, honey. Oh it’ll probably blow over by morning. Until then, I guess we get to know each other.

R2: Yeah.

R1: Chat. It might be fun!

(BOOOOORRRING!!)

…

R1: So, how did you guys meet?

R2: Hmm.

E: Oh, she stalked me, drove my husband away, left me with nothing. (Why is she sooo angry still???? But also can they talk one-one-one without these two fuckers??)

V: She stalked me. She put me in prison, she tongued my boss.

E: Oh no.

R2: I’m so gullible.

E: How about you two?

R2: Well, erm.. I’m gonna.

R1: Yeah, you tell it.

R2: Mag… sorry. Maggie gave me a kidney.

R1: I was in hospital visiting a friend and Donnie was in the next bed on dialysis. I thought, he’s cute.

R2: I thought she looked like she had a kidney to spare… only kidding.

R1: And then, six months later… should we?

R2: Yeah.

R1: Ta-da!

R2: Look at that. Kidney twins.

R1: Aww…

R2: We are bound together, forever.

R1: That’s true baby.

R2: Oh my baba…

(THEY DID NOT NEED A RANDOM COUPLE TO REMIND THEM OF THEIR SCARS!! If that was to remind the audience, you’re fucking stupid.)

R1: Ok, are you ready?

R2: Oh, no no no no no no no, I’m scared, I’m scared.

R1: It’s gonna be fine. Relax, relax.

R2: All right, all right, just do it.

R1: The moon. I love this card. That’s a really mysterious card. Listen how to trust your intuition, baba.

V: I think I might kill them.

E: I think I might help you.

(I wish they would have. The kills we did get were shit. AND THEY DIDN’T EVEN DO IT TOGETHER!!)

R1: Do you guys want me to read your tarot?

R2: You totally should. It’s like she can see into your soul.

V: Okay.

R1: Perfect. So I’ll do a simple three card reading. The first card represents the past, the second the present, and third the future.

V: I’m complicated.

R1: Okay. The Tower. That speaks of chaos and destruction in your past. Can you think of why that might be?

E: Ha (snort laughs)

R1: Let’s have a look at your present. Mm. The Lovers. Normally it would denote unity, but the card is upside down so it speaks of the opposite. Is there any unresolved conflict in your partnership?

V: Do my future.

R1: The sun.

V: The sun?

R1: That’s one of the best cards you can get. The Sun is magnificent and holy. Whatever path you walk down, you’ll be blessed with a celestial light. The Sun is life.

(Fuck you, Laura.)

E: Okay, you know what, do my future.

V: Don’t shove the sun. (The best line in the episode in my opinion. Wouldn’t be surprised if it was unscripted.)

E: Let’s go.

R1: I can do you a three card reading too…

E: I don’t want that. I just want the future. The last one.

R1: Okay.

(Death)

...

V: They’re just cards, Eve. There’s no such thing as fate.

E: Really? What’s this then?

V: You’re a lot today.

E: I’m a lot every day.

(Silence)

V: One of her organs is inside of him and they still can’t piss in front of each other. I wouldn’t take it too seriously.

(This exchange wasn’t terrible but still way too little.)

R1: Hey, are you two okay sharing a sleeping bag?

There is so much unresolved tension between Villaneve, still, at this point in their story. They could have given us literally ANYTHING. But they CHOSE to introduce two new characters in the finale, in precious Villaneve scenes, where they exchange more dialogue then our ladies. HOW?? WHY??

All throughout the season we have been starved for Villaneve scenes. Eve was cold towards V for reasons we still don’t fully understand. Previous season finales have provided the best bits of Villaneve dialogue. I’m now convinced Susanne wrote the ballroom/bridge scenes because clearly Laura didn’t know how the fuck to write for them.

They could have still given us the stupid fucking “bothy” (Google it, fuck you), but without the het couple. They could have screamed at each other, discussed any of the myriad shit between them or separate things in their journey (V killing her mom, Eve’s darkness, ANYTHING), finally expressed their real feelings with WORDS not just longing stares, got up in each other’s faces, had angry sex to work out their issues, really the possibilities were infinite.

But we got this instead. Cool.

Yes, I’m still mad. Fuck you, Laura Neal.
