okay here's some actual life advice for new parents
go to the library.
those toddler reading times are actually community-building events where you can meet fellow new parents with children the same age as your kid. you know how it's hard to socialize with all your friends, especially if they don't have young children? well here's a group of people that are far more likely to understand your situation and have free time that isn't after 9 pm on a school night. plus your kids can learn how to socialize with their own peer group. AND it's free
do NOT show up and scroll thru ur phone the entire time, the library isnt daycare, you need to be present too

The potential of hearing a brand new Taylor Swift single tonight…and our first taste of what Showgirl sounds like….
What are our guesses for lead single?! Mine are either title track with Sabrina or Elizabeth Taylor!

The thing about aggressive age-verification procedures is that they're a sign of a low-trust society. It's the sign of a society that expects people to be lying a lot. That's not a good thing for a society to be, even absent other factors.
I've spent the past few months living in Austria, and one of the things that has really impressed me about this country is how much it... trusts me. Transit works via the honour system. Nobody tries to card me when I buy beer. When I explained my usual prescription to my doctor here, she didn't try to persuade me I wanted something else instead. You can buy a vibrator from a vending machine.
And it all just works. The transit system is well-funded, the ERs are not full of dead drunk teens (it's hard to do too much damage to yourself with the weak-ass beer here, especially if comparatively few people drive), and nobody seems particularly fussed about it. This is the safest, cleanest, and happiest city I've ever seen. I live in what is broadly considered to be the worst part of town, and it's miles more pleasant than the nice parts of some North American cities I've lived in.
Nothing destroys trust more than enforcement. And if you have enough trust, you don't need enforcement. Isn't that better?

I think this podcast also just goes to show the locals and some of the more recent/bandwagon fans who don’t really Get her yet that when Taylor wants us to know something, she will tell us. When she wants to tell us information about her life, it will come from her. She WILL tell us! SSSHHHHEEEEEEEE will TELL us!!!!!!
i actually cannot say anything about what we've just seen. this is the most open and intimate conversation we've had with her.

Cause you’ve got her on your arm,
And me in the wings,
I’ll get your longing glances,
But she’ll get your ring.
And you will say you had the best of intentions…
And maybe I will finally learn my lesson.

Everyone saying there’s no way she could’ve had Showgirl planned since Midnights when she only just made it with Martin & Shellback on the Europe leg of the Eras tour, but idk I think we’re forgetting how creative Taylor is! I think it is entirelyyyy possible to come up with a concept/theme/aesthetic/color scheme for an album/era/song without having written any of it yet! She said in the podcast this is the type of album she’s been wanting to make for a long time now. Even before the Eras tour started I think she had and idea of how big it was going to be, and obv from what she said in the Anti-Hero mv clip about “not feeling like a real person”, so she def had this idea of taylor swift the person vs. Taylor Swift™️ The Showgirl that she knew she wanted to write about, and we got a bit of a taste of that with ICDIWABH too. It’s also entirely possible for her to write lyrics for a song without having put it to music or produced it yet! Lest we forget that’s how she told us she wrote Blank Space! She keeps that endless note in her phone of lines and phrases and words that she cherry picks from and can build a song from like puzzle pieces!
In conclusion I think it was entirely possible for her to have started planning Showgirl once she finished Midnights and dropping hints about the color scheme & symbols in the music videos and thought that would be the next era, but then the events surrounding Tortured Poets happened and she clearly had a LOT to say about that (she said that one time how she felt that she “needed” to write this album) so she wrote and recorded that even though it was unplanned, and maybe even pushed off Showgirl by a few months give or take to accommodate for it.

Okay so during the podcast there was a figure of Pinocchio on the bookcase behind Travis.
Tumblr media
Pinocchio’s whole thing is that he’s made out of wood and wants to be brought to life as a real human boy instead of just a puppet. He spends a bit of time having strings attached to him and then gushes about the freedom he feels when they are no longer there. And that got me thinking about the track “Wood” and the aspects of fame and performing.
Perhaps “Wood” is about being seen as a real human instead of simply an entertainer or “puppet,” finding herself brought to life by something or someone else and freeing herself of the strings that once held her back.

taylor finally being at peace with her view of Red and no longer seeing its patchwork-quilty-ness as a flaw or something to be “fixed” by 1989 – rather just loving it for what it is, not wanting to change a thing :’) acknowledging that different albums just serve different purposes and achieve different goals, just like how she doesn’t look down on ttpd for being long and “messy” but rather embraces its cathartic honesty. the life of a showgirl being snappy and concise isn’t because there was something wrong with ttpd, it’s just because that was the next thing she wanted to do! seeing the parallels between these four records and the room to breathe each one is being given makes me so happy and all the more excited to see what she’s cooked up. i know i’m going to love it ❤️‍🔥
