Well, this is shit, isn't it?

Having witnessed the last few days from the outside, America really seems to have lost its mind. However, this isn't anything new. We all know America was the crazy young 'un that was going to cause trouble, but never in a million years did I think the nation that made a personality out of fighting fascism would actively be working with it, taking money from it, and enacting it. Those who know their history must be feeling very uncomfortable right now, because the parallels are all too clear. And the world is watching with bated breath. There's a lot of fear, a lot of anxiety. And I cannot imagine what it must be like to be a minority in American right now, an asylum seeker, a queer/trans person. It's insane. It's fucking insane. I am not going to say Britain is any better; we have our own problems. But this complacency is going to be very hard put to it, and we are going to suffer enormously. Even when we don't feel like dealing with the people that are in charge of such immense powers, we have to do what we can. We don't get the choice of dealing with who is in charge. But we have the political and moral duty to stand up and say, "Hey, this won't fly and this won't be tolerated." The man who has taken power in the White House is in the palm of a man who has vocally stated his contempt for British politics and wants them undermined. And having the money he has, he might well get his way. And that's scary. We are at the mercy of oligarchs and despots not of politics but of money. They hold the purse strings, therefore they say what goes. We need their money, of course we'll dance to their tune. But that won't stop a very vocal few from tearing shit down. And that's when we are to make plans. I saw a post this morning that said, "They are trying for Germany 1939, but what they'll get is France 1793". This is a telling statement. 1793 was the Year of Terror during the French Revolution, and that should scare the people in power, because we have seen throughout history what happens when the people have had enough. You might have the money, but we have the manpower and the ability to change the world. They might enjoy the wealth of nations, but we have every strength imaginable to tear that down, and money is no use to anyone when they are dead, case and point Luigi Mangione.

Now more than ever we need the work of artists, writers, freaks and loonies and take to the streets. We need to make as much noise as we can so the world will hear us and might be driven mad. We need those in power to know the world is watching and that we have power. We can change things if we need to and find the courage for it. Governments have been removed by the people throughout history, either peacefully or by force. And while I would love a peaceful removal, a revolution can only be bloody.

But from this I pray you take some hope. There are those of us out there who are fighting and who share your anger. And this time, we will be heard. We will not go gentle into that goodnight. We will continue to rage against the dying of the light, and when the darkness comes, and the night closes in, the stars will come out. And some of us, some very few of us, will become the moon and shine throughout. Take courage, follow your spirit, and take up arms in any way you can. For in the words of a time-travelling dandy who has given the world such courage: "Books! Best weapons in the world! [A library] is perhaps the greatest arsenal we have." Take up your brushes and pens, sharpen your knitting needles, apply to your glass furnaces. We are needed now more than ever.
