As a kid, "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" was one of my favorite movies. I loved Willy Wonka's creative and funky names for his candy creations, so that's where I drew my inspiration from. (with a dark twist) I've always really enjoyed viewing candy ads- be it commercial or print- because I feel like there is so much as an advertiser to play around with in that field. The Skittles commercials would have to be some of my favorite ads, they are hilarious and always make me laugh.

5. Print ad
There is not much white space in this Falken Tire ad as the large text and photo of the truck takes up almost all of the space. There is a central position and balance and we can determine that the main figure is the bold white text in the photo, while the ground is the outdoor terrain and the truck. Size is a large factor in the ad as well as the reader’s eye is drawn towards the top of the photo and then the eye gravitates towards the bottom of the photo where the smaller text has more information about the product.

4. Print ad
This is a 90s ad for the Rayman 3 video game. There is a lot going on in this ad in terms of text and photo. Size comes into play because there are several different sizes and fonts of text. The largest text is of course the Rayman 2 logo. There are also several smaller photos to the right of the ad making this ad asymmetrical since most of the balance is towards the larger photo on the left.

3. Online Ad
This online ad from Brisk relies heavily on balance and position. All the attention is focused towards the center of the ad, but the ad is asymmetrical. Even though most of the ad is focused towards the center, the balance is more towards the left because of the main product (the Brisk bottle), The Brisk bottle is larger than the the other photos and text to call more attention towards the product so size is definitely an important tool here as well.

2. Online ad
This is one of my favorite propaganda ads, because I am pro-animal rights and I enjoy the satire. This ad is a satire of the movie Jaws. The ad is symmetrical because of the central position of the boat as well as the symmetry of the large red text. Size is also an important part of the ad; the image of the boat and the word “Laws” catches the reader’s attention first because of their large size. Then there is smaller text which the reader must take a closer look at the poster to read.

1. Outdoor Ad
This bus stop advertisement from nycgo.com takes advantage of font size and color to get their message across. Though it is a very minimalist design, we can see that there is visual frequency at play here. The distance between repeated objects (here it is the bold words) is equal. There is also a balance towards the center of the ad due to the bold and bright letters. There is also grouping of the text as well as a central balance and position.
